Xperia Z3 water damaged - Xperia Z3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ok, so here goes nothing. I took my Z3 a couple of days ago to the pool to take a few underwater shots. After 5 mins of being in the water, the screen started flickering and after that it died. Or it didn't completely? Apparently not. The phone still works but there's no backlight and can't use the touchscreen either, if i hold the phone in a powerful light source i can see the images on the screen. I took the phone to a phone repair shop and i told them the obvious, to replace the screen. They said they found rust inside the phone and that the new screen they used wasn't showing any images. No warranty and no insurance on it. What else could it be?

[Q] Water Damaged LG G2 Works But Won't Show Image On Screen

So like the title suggests, I have a water damaged LG G2 that won't fully work. A little back-story, I went swimming one day at the pool and while I was swimming I totally forgot my phone was still in my pocket. I was only in the water for a few minutes and realized my mistake so I quickly drove home and disassembled it. I immediately soaked it in rice for a few days but unfortunately its fried so I decided to do some tests to see if i could fix it myself. I played with it for a while, scrubbed off the corrosion, replaced the battery and the phone works now but the screen wont display an image. I put in another replacement screen but to no avail so I'm assuming it has something to do with the logic board although I'm not for sure. If anyone could shed some light on what might be the problem or help me with a solution it would be greatly appreciated :good:
thanks

Well, you seem to have already done the things I would have suggested. If you've already dropped in a replacement glass/digitizer/LCD assembly and it still isn't working, then I got nothing. I'd send it in to someone to have it fixed or get a new phone. That said, I was actually replacing that assembly myself this weekend after being dumb/inebriated and having my phone fall out of my pocket, cracking the glass and digitizer. One thing I noticed that I didn't expect is that even if everything is completely assembled, if you take off the back cover and turn the phone on, the phone will boot up and respond to touch, but the screen will not turn on. Looking more closely at the back cover, there are a few contacts on there so apparently you have to have the cover on for the screen to work. You could double check to see if there might still be some corrosion on the back cover on those contacts. That's about all I got though.

Xperia Z3 screen flickering, help

I gave my Z3 a little bath in tap water in the sink. It was not submerged so this is more like a shower. I double checked and secure the ports. I don't even use the ports anyway because I have magnetic charging. I dried it and started using it. It was all fine until 5 mins later it just randomly turned off. Battery was good, tried using the power button and it wouldn't work. So I did the power button and volume + method and it fixed it. But the touch screen didn't work sometimes (randomly), there was a blinking red light before I booted it on, and there is rattling near the camera area when i shake it. I ran diagnostics and noticed that my screen was also flickering. Some of the tests used vibration as feedback and this made the flickering worse. Now the screen is struggling to stay lit. It turns on for 3 seconds and then it dies. You can only see parts of it too. I need help. This phone is unusable. I bought this phone (Sony Xperia Z3 D6603 black) from Worldwide Distributors on Amazon.com 3 months ago. I only took it into the water a few times. I don't think its water damage because I had the flaps secured unless Sony gave me a defective phone. I paid $700 for this and I'm not rich either. I was saving up. The phone has the standard 2 year warranty. Somebody please help. what should I do? Will Sony fix it or give me a new one?
UPDATE: Screen is dead. It still turns on and touch screen still works but cant see anything. It's like it lost signal . Kinda like how a tv loses signal. The tv still works but are no shows on.
IMPORTANT: I just found a little hole that shows part of the screen backlight. Its on the side but its more like a crack. I haven't drop this or anything. So this is possibly how the water got in. This is also Sony's fault. Will I get a new replacement or refund or repair or something?
Thanks for all your help.

Happened to me too! The screen is black but is showing the brightness and the touch works. It's totally weird!. i'm going to send the phone to SAT
Seems the lcd backlight is still working where the lcd screen is not;
not sure whether the warranty covers water damage or not...
Got around the same problem. happend in the water screen went black phone was still working. After a lot of reboots and resets it started to work for around 3 seconds then evantually the screen was staying, but is flashing now, looks like the flickering happens when the screen gets too much power. In light conditions it either flickers or is real dark.
What can I do to fix this? Or do I just contact Sony? I've also tried the pressure test and it is water resistant so it has to be something different.
If the screen is cracked they will charge you for the replacement for sure

Hi. I've noticed that my screen flickers when I put the brightness on maximum. Watching the behavior it makes me think that it happens all the time, but it's only noticeable the screen brightness is high. Tried to get it on film, but my camera does not seem to pick up the flickering.
I noticed this after a pool bath with my phone, but i don't know if it is related to that. I did not a chance to use maximum brightness before
I do not have any other issues though, just the flickering. Should i send it to repair? My phone is an 6633 Dual Sim Z3 (Brazilian, unbranded) with less then 3 months of usage.

[Completed] Sony Xperia Z3 Display not working

Hi, so today I took my Sony Xperia Z3 into the bath with me today. The phone is quoted to be waterproof to 1.5m for 30 minutes. When I went into the shower, both flaps were secured and closed properly and I made sure that both the ports were completely covered. I don't bath for long periods of time, definitely not 30 minutes but the phone was still submerged. When I left the bath, both flaps were still secured and ports properly covered. However, roughly 10 minutes out of the shower, I went to plug in my headphones and suddenly the display on the phone started to fade. This has NEVER happened before. The screen began fading and eventually went black. I opened the flaps out and I did see a bit of water on the other side of the flaps. I believe that the device itself still works, because the phone vibrates from notifications and the LED indicator light still works. This phone is fairly new and this isn't the first time I've taken the phone and submerged it into my bath. However, this is the first time I've actually encountered the problem. I bought the phone in late May so there is still warranty on the phone (warranty up to a year). I called the store where I bought the phone but they told me SONY doesn't cover water damage. I've taken out the sim card and sd card and I've left the flaps open for a long time and still the display refuses to work. What should I do?

Samsung Galaxy S6 Weird Water Damage?

It seems like my Galaxy S6 from ThreeUK got a bit of water in it while cleaning. The phone was on while it happened and it continued working perfectly well for a while. After a few minutes the screen starting flickering, showing snow, discoloring (everything got pinkish). Now it sometimes works normally and sometimes doesn't which makes me think there could be some liquid stuck in it somewhere. The water damage indicator in the SIM slot has not been tripped (it's white). The phone seems to sometimes randomly restart (hasn't done that for a day now), but other than that, the touchscreen is responsive, only the screen seems to be blacked out and then suddenly come back to live. Any ideas of what I should do? It has been like this for over 24 hours now and I have been unable to turn it off.
If the sticker isn't showing water damage and your warranty is still valid I would go with that route and contact Samsung. How exactly were you cleaning it where so much water got into it to screwed up the phone?
Sent from my SM-G920T using XDA Free mobile app
Bring your S6 back to Samsung for warranty repair.
Before send it to Samsung, put the phone (powered off) in a rice bag for a night or better 24h.
After that, it will be completely dry.
And then, send it for repair, because, if they found water in it, even if the water indicator is white, you warranty is voided.

Digitizer Not Working

Hello Everyone,
I have had my Z5 with me since march 2016. But last week I have used my phone in the pool for few minutes under water and not more than 0.5 meters.
Unfortunately, and after taking the photos, the phone started to mess around and I have lost the LCD. I was able to use the digitizer to answer a call.
Later I have lost the digitizer. I have forced shutdown the phone and I have put the phone in Rice and Oats. Fortunately, the LCD came back to work and everything is just smooth except for the touch screen. I am currently using the OTG adapter and connected a mouse directly.
Isn't the Z5 waterproof? And why only the digitizer that had failed in the phone? Could it be some trapped moisture in the phone causing this issue?
Thank you for your help!

there is a limit to the water resistancy of a phone the Z5 is IP68 rated
http://www.trustedreviews.com/opinions/what-is-ip68-ip-ratings-explained
you can take a xperia upto half a meter of water for 30mins max, unfortionately you have to replace what you have damaged in your phone as it isnt covered by warrenty
Thank you, but in the specs they have mentioned IP68 with 1 meter for 30 minutes water tolerance. Anyhow, I have sent it to the supplier hopefully they can fix it. Sadly though, they should have stated clearly thet waterproofing is for a splash of water and not to be used under water. Z3 initial ad showed under water performance.
