Digitizer Not Working - Xperia Z5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello Everyone,
I have had my Z5 with me since march 2016. But last week I have used my phone in the pool for few minutes under water and not more than 0.5 meters.
Unfortunately, and after taking the photos, the phone started to mess around and I have lost the LCD. I was able to use the digitizer to answer a call.
Later I have lost the digitizer. I have forced shutdown the phone and I have put the phone in Rice and Oats. Fortunately, the LCD came back to work and everything is just smooth except for the touch screen. I am currently using the OTG adapter and connected a mouse directly.
Isn't the Z5 waterproof? And why only the digitizer that had failed in the phone? Could it be some trapped moisture in the phone causing this issue?
Thank you for your help!

there is a limit to the water resistancy of a phone the Z5 is IP68 rated
http://www.trustedreviews.com/opinions/what-is-ip68-ip-ratings-explained
you can take a xperia upto half a meter of water for 30mins max, unfortionately you have to replace what you have damaged in your phone as it isnt covered by warrenty

Thank you, but in the specs they have mentioned IP68 with 1 meter for 30 minutes water tolerance. Anyhow, I have sent it to the supplier hopefully they can fix it. Sadly though, they should have stated clearly thet waterproofing is for a splash of water and not to be used under water. Z3 initial ad showed under water performance.

[Q] Water Damaged LG G2 Works But Won't Show Image On Screen

So like the title suggests, I have a water damaged LG G2 that won't fully work. A little back-story, I went swimming one day at the pool and while I was swimming I totally forgot my phone was still in my pocket. I was only in the water for a few minutes and realized my mistake so I quickly drove home and disassembled it. I immediately soaked it in rice for a few days but unfortunately its fried so I decided to do some tests to see if i could fix it myself. I played with it for a while, scrubbed off the corrosion, replaced the battery and the phone works now but the screen wont display an image. I put in another replacement screen but to no avail so I'm assuming it has something to do with the logic board although I'm not for sure. If anyone could shed some light on what might be the problem or help me with a solution it would be greatly appreciated :good:
thanks

Well, you seem to have already done the things I would have suggested. If you've already dropped in a replacement glass/digitizer/LCD assembly and it still isn't working, then I got nothing. I'd send it in to someone to have it fixed or get a new phone. That said, I was actually replacing that assembly myself this weekend after being dumb/inebriated and having my phone fall out of my pocket, cracking the glass and digitizer. One thing I noticed that I didn't expect is that even if everything is completely assembled, if you take off the back cover and turn the phone on, the phone will boot up and respond to touch, but the screen will not turn on. Looking more closely at the back cover, there are a few contacts on there so apparently you have to have the cover on for the screen to work. You could double check to see if there might still be some corrosion on the back cover on those contacts. That's about all I got though.

[Completed] Sony Xperia Z3 Display not working

Hi, so today I took my Sony Xperia Z3 into the bath with me today. The phone is quoted to be waterproof to 1.5m for 30 minutes. When I went into the shower, both flaps were secured and closed properly and I made sure that both the ports were completely covered. I don't bath for long periods of time, definitely not 30 minutes but the phone was still submerged. When I left the bath, both flaps were still secured and ports properly covered. However, roughly 10 minutes out of the shower, I went to plug in my headphones and suddenly the display on the phone started to fade. This has NEVER happened before. The screen began fading and eventually went black. I opened the flaps out and I did see a bit of water on the other side of the flaps. I believe that the device itself still works, because the phone vibrates from notifications and the LED indicator light still works. This phone is fairly new and this isn't the first time I've taken the phone and submerged it into my bath. However, this is the first time I've actually encountered the problem. I bought the phone in late May so there is still warranty on the phone (warranty up to a year). I called the store where I bought the phone but they told me SONY doesn't cover water damage. I've taken out the sim card and sd card and I've left the flaps open for a long time and still the display refuses to work. What should I do?

Z5 Water Damage

Short story , yesterday my z5 felt in to water , i was washing something at the sink at it just felt . Took it from the water and surprisse somehow the water got inside even if the flap was closed and now i have some water drops on the camera lens, can't make calls with it without the handsfree and can't play music on stereo speakers because in the taskbar every 3 seconds a notification appears sayng that the headphones are conected then disconnected but on the headphones i can listen to music + the camera app doesn't recognise the front camera anymore. Thanks to the sd810 (heating source) some of the water from the camera is starting to go away. Is there something that i can do with it exept warranty (i don't have that) ? Exept the problems listed above the phone is working perfectly.
Shove it in a bowl of rice for a day or two. Somewhere warm, but not *hot*. Direct sunlight would be okay. Your goal is to evaporate/absorb the rest of the moisture out.

Well , thanks to the hot sd810 the water around the camera is gone and now the back camera, calling and speakers are working fine but the front camera is still not detected by the camera apps maybe it still has some water in that area and it will come back in a few days
It's a fairly bad idea to keep using electronics that you know water has penetrated. I wouldn't be surprised if the front camera doesn't come back, but even still I would recommend doing what I said in my first post.

droped my z1 and used it a lot of times in water , never tought that the z5 could get water damage by a simple splash . I'll leave it at the suntlight to see if the camera will come back. The flap was opened since the splash so the water could evaporate and get out
My phone is working good when used after being submerged in water but everytome i do this every time i get a notification saying that headphones are connected and disconnected for almost 10 mins then it works fine, my phone pass the pressure test perfectly, is this a common issues? I didn't used to have this problem with my old Xperia z1
I intentionally put my Z5 on water and have the same problems as yours, it is normal. Just dry it with a towel, make sure no water drops from the jack port, turn it off and on and done.
What flap?

I was going to ask the same thing until I remembered the SIM/microSD flap on the side.
Looks like i lost the front camera...guess i'll have to use the back one or the front one from the z1..happy that everyting else is working as new
Mine fell in pool. It had problems with audio jack and screen. I put it in the rice over night and problems were gone, but today after using it for about 4-5 hours the screen problem came back. It just became dark gray, without picture, so reset it few times. It shows the first Sony logo for 2 seconds and than becomes dark again. I put it back in rice. How much longer should I left it in?

I turned it on and the screen it's working, but SIM Card not and when I lock the phone after a few minutes the phone turns off by itself...
Right now I'm on Linux ROM on locked bootloader, should I install stock ROM before send it to the Sony repair service?

Restore the phone to stock and send it to Sony, it may be a gamble if you have unlocked the bootloader before however. Make sure it doesn't die while restoring!

It doesnt really matter if it die or not its water damaged anyway.. They should replace or repair it

Depending on your repair center there could be charges
if it dies, in opinion, if under warranty, it would be good for you.
Lots of people have a waterdamaged Z3 after contact with water allthough it is advertised as a waterproof Phone ??
A friend of mine took it's Z3 to the pool to take some pictures in the water and killed the lcd after some pictures.
Not so waterproof after all.
In your case your motherboard got damaged, the motherboard probably gets so hot from the shortened components it shuts itself down. Is the back of the Phone really hot just before it powers off ?
Water itself doesn't kill your Phone, it is water in combination with courant.
The biggest fault most people make when there Phone had a contact with water is trying to power it back on to see if it is still working.
The Phone powers itself off to protect the motherboard from damage when it is short circuit by water.
By trying to power it back on immediatly after the waterdamage , you put courant on the shortened circuit and most likely burn out a component.
Best way to threat a Phone after waterdamage is to take it apart as far as possible and put the parts on a hot plate ( or other heat source) at about 55 degrees Celsius for half an hour.
Afterwards clean away the waterresidu with IPA and a toothbrush before re-assembling the Phone.

Backlight is not Working

3 days ago, I kept my OPO in a bag, but I didn't know that the bag was not waterproof. The water of rain got inside of the bag. I took out my OPO after 30/40 minutes. It was down under water horizontally. I tried to unlock the phone, but there was no Display and Backlight, but the Notification light was blinking. I was outside so that I couldn't disconnect the battery. After some minutes it was getting hot. After I reached home, I disassembled all parts and saw some small parts were burned. I took it to the unauthorized servicing center because there are no authorized Service Center of OnePlus in my country(BANGLADESH). The servicing man told me that the IC of Network, and IC of the backlight of Display is burned. It will take some time to service it. After one day, He called me and said that light is not turning on. Now he is searching of another corrupted motherboard of OPO where the BackLight IC is good at least. Then he will transfer it to my OPO.
I'm worried about it because, In my country, OnePlus is not well known. If the service man can't find the IC, then I can't use my OPO again which I love more than other SmartPhone.
Is there any solution? or Where I can find the IC of Backlight to buy.

Need to replace whole motherboard.
You're gonna need much more than a motherboard if water is involved.
The speakers , the camera modules, the display , flex connectors.
Just buy a new(or used) OPO.
Tips- Remove the back cover , Put it in rice for a week or two....then try charging it again. Hope for the best that it starts up.
