[Completed] com.system.patch virus - XDA Assist

I have a sumsung ace 3 gts7272 that has been infected with a virus called com.system.patch. here's what it does:
1- the first thing I noticed was that a white page pops up for like a second and it says com.system.patch
2- the second thing is very hard to not notice. a white noise page pops up every 10-30 seconds and the phone restarts and ANY CHANGES YOU DO BEFORE THE RESTART WILL BE GONE. YOU CAN'T CHANGE ANYTHING.
3- in settings>security>administrators you can see com.system.patch as administrator and android is not ticked, you can tick it but once the device restarts all is back to the way it was.
4- you cannot remove com.system.patch from app manager.
5- you cannot deactivate its authority as administrator.
6-you cannot factory reset it is deactivated. secret code does not work and using keys after it says factory reset done and it restarts everything is back to the way it was.
7- I removed the sd card and the background photos are still there.
8- I can connect it to the pc as storage device but nothing more than that.
9- I tried odin3.9 and it does the whole download process but after reset it goes back to the way it was and I can never get the PASS message.
10- I tried professionals who work for sumsung but after trying everything they just said you should change parts that would cost 3/4 of the phone's price which is not worth it.
I still don't wanna give up. Please help me get rid of this annoying virus.

Hello and thank you for using XDA Assist.
We cannot provide technical support nor can other members reply to your posts here on XDA Assist . That said, contrary to misinformation spread on some web sites, "com.system.patch" is emphatically NOT a virus. It's merely an annoyingly stubborn adware application. It can usually be removed from a root-enabled file manager or a custom recovery with file management options (TWRP), with or without first disabling it as administrator. If does not have the ability to permanently cripple your device, but improper use of Odin or other tools may have compounded your problem.
There is no obvious place on XDA to discuss such issues, but I suggest you ask in the friendly general Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting forum at http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/help. That's a good place to start where members familiar with that application might be able to advise you.
Good luck!

Guide for Chinese a5000

Posted this elsewhere but I guess it will be helpful to some who have gone through what I have to recover their phone.
This is to speed up, root or flash.
Back up your data first using a back up program.
Auto task killers lag on this phone, uninstall.
Or download 91 china phone suite, when open it will be in chinese. Go to the upper left of the program to the android picture and click on the lower bubble by the right of the android's head, a sub menu opens go to the third option and select english. Go to the files section and back up.
Open the phone and check you have the IMEI numbers listed inside under the battery or dial *#06#
Root your phone either z4root which works fine or with superoneclick with the normal usb cable, you can now remove system apps with various apps. Search first for system apps lists which are safe to remove, reboot.
If you've gone too far and it won't boot then search for ginger yoshi zip for a5000 make sure you choose either r=resistive or c=capacitice to suit your screen, though both will boot, the touch screen won't work if it's the wrong firmware. Do not unzip.
Copy file to sd card first renaming the yoshi zip to update.zip.
Turn off phone, turn on again by holding volume up and power at the same time which boots into recovery mode.
Choose update.zip, when finished clear cache and data and remove battery for 20 seconds and reboot. If all fails try again.....
My numbers were fine after install but many aren't search for an IMEI tool to re-enter them.
With yoshi the phone is like a new phone, faster, louder, clearer, boots within 20 secs and instead of struggling to keep an average of 30 meg memory free it's over 150! It also says 3g on the status.
It has problems like the market not working which can apparently be fixed and never fixed my bluetooth paired but not connected problem but for a 100 quid it's fine for me.
I downloaded that many roms I'm not sure which link I got the Ginger Yoshi resistive rom from, can anyone post the link? This is also the reason this is posted here in the hope someone else has the rom link.
I used the one here (first link of the post for A5000 resistive)
forum.chinafonini.it/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=10648&st=0&sk=t&sd=a
It worked, but some features seems missing (account management, camera,...)

I accidently disabeled/deleted the Google app

so I am an Idiot,
I had this issue with my headphones on my phone that google would pop up on random times to ask me wether I needed help from the voice support thingy.
So I looked up some video's on how to fix it and most videos said to just disable/delete the google app from my phone in App manager.
Everything went OK but when I wanted to go to my home screen, an error popped up saying there was no home screen...
I'm like; 'What the hell?!?'
so I turned off my device completely just to discover it wouldn't boot up correctly when I started it again.
now I am stuck with only my bootloader and I can't get back to factory mode, I did not root my device for any of your interests
pls help someone who knows something that might help me
Go to recovery when turning device on and from there do a factory reset?

So you did something in settings, or are you rooted and used some app to delete stuff? The answer to your problems really depends on what you did.
As a quick fix, log into your Google account via a PC and find Nova Launch (or some reputable launcher) and push it to the phone, once it installed press Home and it should ask you to select your Home screen and make sure to tick "Always".
The real problem here is you tried to a fix a problem that didn't fixing, just a quick settings change... A quick thread started here would have probably got the quick answer of turning of Google Assistance Anywhere to fix the problem without messing anything up.

Hi, I did not root my this device and did not delete the home screen from TWRP, just from the application manager. but it's more than just the home screen. I said I've tried to restart the device but when I was booting it up again, I only saw the Motorola logo loading for like 15 minutes.
It does connect to my PC and it recognizes the device, but I can't find it in File Explorer.
I might try to install Nova launcher, just to see if it works or not.
thanks for the reply though

If your not rooted you couldn't have deleted the app needed, only disabled it. Pull down the notification shade twice (or with 2 fingers) and tap the settings gear, scroll to Apps, then scroll to the bottom where disabled apps would be listed and re-enable everything and reboot. If that still doesn't work, push Nova, and as a last resort you can perform a factory reset.

When I do that, it does the same thing as if I didn't. I don't really know how to push applications from my PC to my phone. Maybe I can try to redownload the google app through pushing.

Either way, it's like a wise man once said "It doesn't matter if it's duct tape or tie wraps, fixed is fixed". :highfive:

How do I stop a system update while downloading?

I have an HTC 10. I have heard so many horror stories on significant battery drain issue after the Oreo update so I have not updated to Oreo yet. I have read somewhere the issue has been resolved on Android's end but there is no more update on the HTC end to incorporate this update for the HTC 10. So every time the Oreo system update prompt came up I did not allow to update to proceed. I had it set to update only on WIFI and always ask me prior.
This morning I must have accidentally hit OK when the prompt came up while I was scrolling the screen for something else and it started to update. I immediately turned off WIFI but it continued the download with my mobile data. So I turned off mobile data as well on my phone. Right now I am at:
Software Update: 3.16.617.2 (1.32GB) Download is paused because your data connection was lost.
Shows a status bar at 3%.
I cannot find a way to cancel or stop this download and subsequent update. Is there a way?
I tried long press on the download screen, the Updater only has options of: Block all, Show silently, On the lock screen, Override do not disturb, all having to do with notification presentations but nothing to cancel the download altogether.
I went into Settings > Apps and popped up Device Configuration and did a FORCE STOP. that didn't do anything. There is an option there to UNINSTALL UPDATES but I didn't touch it since the update hasn't started yet and not sure if this app even deal with system updates.
Just tried a Wipe Cache Partition and rebooted. The system download is still being queued. There is no way to stop this?
I am surprise it will continue to download this huge file even with WIFI off. I had it set to not download any updates unless WIFI, but I guess now I understand it means this is only checked when download started, once it started it will download on my cellular network if WIFI goes out of range? This is a poor design.
Now if I let it download, is there a way to stop the update once the download is completed?
I went ahead and turned on WIFI to allow the downloading to complete. Once it completed it asked me about installing with two options:
Install Now
Install Later
I selected Install Later and it gave me a choice of being reminded again in:
30 minutes
1 hour
2 hours
4 hours
So I selected 4 hours and dismissed it for now. It will ask again in 4 hours, I assume there is no way to dismiss it for a month or a year.
So now I have two questions:
(1) Is there a way to disable this reminder prompt?
(2) Where is this downloaded file? Can I find it with a file manager and delete it? and if it is deleted will it trigger an auto download again or will it go back to just prompting me to download once in a while like before?

There may or may not be a method to disable the update notification but it will require root. You'll probably have to figure out how to disable the notification for yourself.
Try doing a Google search for:
"Disable update notification (your model number)"
Or
"Disable update notification on android"

well,it just get better and better LOL.
I didn't want to install the system update, but it happened, accidentally. I was out and about, and was in a middle of texting someone, and for a split second while I typed, the system update screen popped up. Since I was in the middle of typing, it took my typing as a confirmation to "Install Now" and began the update. Never mind I only had 31% of battery left at that time and never mind I was not even home and needed the phone. I just can't imagine Google never even bothered with a "Are you sure you want to update now?" prompt. Incredible.
So after it finished the update, a good 30 minutes later, it rebooted, then did more updates, rebooted, and eventually, it started up again, and a lock screen pattern dialog popped up. I put in my pattern and it says it is not recognized. I am certain the pattern is the one I set. Yet something caused the correct pattern to not be recognized. So now I no longer can access my phone. It says I have 28 more tries before it deletes all phone data.
So now I am totally crippled without a chance to even back up all my data.
Anyone know of a way to bypass the lock screen pattern?
If I have to factory reset in order to access my phone again, will the reset bring back Android 7 (original delivered version of the phone) or will it be Oreo (new updated version)?

If you want to keep all of your data intact, root the device, then try this:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2620456
Or this:
https://www.theandroidsoul.com/change-remove-lockscreen-pattern-pin-password-adb-android-oreo/
Or, you can factory reset via recovery, it will wipe all of your data though.

I have found myself in almost the same situation as the OP.
Like the OP, I don't want to upgrade to Oreo, but somehow did something that my phone interpreted as asking it to start downloading the update. Since my system update is set to download only on WiFi, turning off WiFi stopped the download at 0% done.
*Unlike* the OP, my phone is still in the state of having not yet downloaded the update, so I'm still (for now) securely on Nougat. But my notification bar icon now shows the animated download arrow, and the notification shade shows my system update as "Queued". I'm guessing that this is causing extra battery drain, and it's also really annoying.
I've tried a web search on cancelling a scheduled Android update, and found some interesting information suggesting that I stop the DMClient app. But this wasn't specific to either my phone or to a 7-8 upgrade, and I couldn't find an app by that name installed on my phone. I think I found something else recommending that I stop the Google Play services app and clear its cache. I *do* see that app, but I don't feel like experimenting with random web advice, and so thought I'd check here.
Here are two questions:
1) Is there anything I can do to stop my phone from trying to download and install the Oreo update?
2) If I do a factory reset, which Android would I be on after the reset?
Thanks for any help!

Flash the marshmallow firmware for your device via PC using your devices specific flashtool. It will remove everything and put you back to what you had before triggering the update.

Thanks for the response, Droidriven.
I actually figured out a way to stop the phone trying to download the update, which I'll describe below, but first I have two questions about the solution you offered: Is there a reason you said to flash Marshmallow firmwaer rather than Nougat, since the update I'm trying to avoid is the one to Oreo? And, if I did that, how would I get back to Nougat?
But I said that I figured out a solution, and I hope that it may help if someone else finds themselves in my situation. Here is what I did:
1) I determined that the app trying to perform the update on my HTC 10 is a system app called "Updater"
I found this by long-clicking on the notification shade item about the update, and selecting more information. The phone displayed notification options for the Updater app.
2) I cleared cache and data for the Updater app
I went to Updater's app info page via via Settings >> Apps >> All apps. Updater is a system app, so I had to use the kebab menu in the upper right corner of the All apps screen to tell the phone to display system apps. Once there, I went to the "Storage" screen and cleared cache and data.
3) I restarted the phone, and "cleaned up" after what I had done
When my phone powered back on after the restart, there was *nothing* at all related to a system update in the notification bar. I turned on cellular data (but left WiFi off), and went to Settings >> About >> Software Updates. The phone checked for a few seconds, during which I could see (behind the "checking" popup) that the box for downloading only over WiFi was clear. This made sense, since this setting must be an option for the app I had just wiped. After maybe 15 seconds, the phone displayed a screen offering me the 3.16.617.2 system update. I used the back button to close that window, which left me on the screen where I could re-check the option to download system updates only over WiFi. Naturally, I re-checked this option.
That's it. My phone is now once again displaying a notification bar icon offering me the Oreo update, but it no longer thinks I told it to proceed with this update. I have been on WiFi a couple of times since doing this, and the phone has not tried to start the download.
I'm guessing that I could get this notification bar icon to go away by hiding notifications for the Updater app, but have not yet done so.
Thanks again, Droidriven, and I hope what I figured out is helpful to someone else.

My phone had a heart attack...

Hello,
I think my phone just had a heart attack...
It sounds funny, but not for me. I just don't know how to describe what just happened.
I was just chatting with my sister on WhatsApp, I wasn't doing anything special.
Then, the screen froze, and the phone rebooted.
Recently, I had some "home restarting", sometime once a day, sometimes more, but less since I upgraded to Lineage OS 17.1 (from the previous Lineage OS version).
But this time, it's a full reboot by it's own. Scary...
And the nightmare starts now.
After the boot logo, I arrive on a black screen, asking in English (not my language) for my password... but I never used any password when I start my phone.
So I try my PIN code, the only possibility coming to my mind, and it worked.
Yeah ! It works ! Nope... new black screen in English...
That time, it says that my password is correct, but that unfortunately, my data is corrupt.
I have an inner drop of sweat running on my forehead while reading that...
Then... "To resume using your phone, you need to perform a factory reset. When you set up your phone after reset, you'll have an opportunity to restore any data that was backed up to your Google Account."
Only one button : "erase all data", my only option...
I have an inner tear running on cheek while reading that... but what else could I do ? Nothing... so I press the button...
I have a kind of "work in progress" white popup that blinks for half a second, and the phone reboots... on the same password screen !
Next thing to do : the diagnostic of the patient. I power off the phone, then boot in TWRP.
TWRP is in English, not in my language like I set it up a long time ago, and it starts on an unusual screen asking me if I want to keep my system partition in "read only".
It sounds like the patient is in a coma... so I agree on "read only" by pressing the button.
I want to check my data partition, so the most simple way : I choose "install" to go into the "/sdcard"... and it's empty.
Then "up a level" and I go into "/data"... empty... "/system"... empty... "/firmeware"... empty... "/boot"... empty...
Only empty folders, and sometimes empty folders into empty folders.
I go back in the functionalities to go into "partition mounting", and I choose all partitions... but "Data" can't be selected, no matter how much I do the heart massage.
I go back to check in the mounted folders... more empty folders...
So... does anyone have an idea about how to solve such a problem ?
Is there anything to do, or does it look like a DNR wish from an old phone which had a great life and tells me it's time to let it go ?
You have a chance to check if someone made a cruel joke by providing you with a script that did the rest with your unconscious approval, or if it is a hardware failure.
Just install the original ROM, do not unlock the bootloader and use the OPO for a long time and watch the device behavior.

You saved my day (literally, as you answered during the same day). Thank you.
I hoped to have something without data lost, but as I can use my phone again, it's already a good thing.
I guess you are right : a script that did the rest with your unconscious approval.
When I think about it, as OnePlus system images are not validated by Google, they are not DRM Widevine L1.
So I installed Disney+ from another source... and I guess I got it there.
The good thing is that the market place now sees my phone as already having Disney+ and I can install it (or maybe it's the update from November 19th).
For those having the problem, I followed those steps :
I did the installation process, except that I didn't do the factory reset / data formatting, in the (vain) hope to recover my data.
Apply all the stuffs : Lineage OS nightly-bacon-signed, open_gapps-arm nano, magisk.
Restart the phone : again, the black screens, but this time it reboots to erase everything... it took a very long time.
The phone restarts by itself and I go throw the setting process like for new phones.
It restores what it can restore... some settings of the OS to find back to tweak them...
