Replacement device if bought 2nd hand? - Shield Tablet Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all
I bought my Tablet last year from someone from another forum. I was just wondering how do NVidia send out replacements? Where do they get your contact info from since i bought mine from someone else?
Does it go by the play account? or something?
Cheers

you enter your name and address on the recall form at http://tabletrecall.expertproductinquiry.com/registration

ah yeah, now I remember filling it in lol cheers
although haven't heard nothing from them! Next week will be the 5th week

They have to replace thousands, if not millions of devices. Be patient (and if you can't wait anymore, contact the customer support)

I'v bought it second hand, unlocked bl, without warranty. My replacemnet is already with me! Oh yeah!

i bricked my galaxy s II (dont ask...) and i sent it in. i dont have a proof of purchase, and the status currently says awaiting POP or proof of purchase. so i called and asked about it and got a mixed answer between i do need it and i dont need it... its some what confusing. what do you think?
Absolutely. They don't just repair any broken phone someone sends in.

That makes sense, although I never had to provide any proof of purchase. Then again, I've only sent phones in that were on a contract, so maybe that works as such.

same, so i dont see why this time would be any different? at first they said i needed the POP but after she put me on hold for a few minutes she came back and said it was being evaluated and it should be back to me within 5-7 business days. however, the tracking status still says awaiting POP... da hell?

I guess you could wait it out and see.
If you buy it from a big-name store such as the typical phone retailers on the high street, they should just bung the numbers in their system and find out when you bought it.
I cannot even fathom why they even ask for PoP to see the date you bought it and such for phones that haven't even been out for more than 6 months half the time: it's pretty obvious a standard 1-year warranty would still be in date.
I bought my phone off eBay so I hope should I ever need it I can send it to a qualified service centre.

The Paypal invoice works just fine. I sent in my $1700 DSLR to Canon for warranty repairs with one, and there weren't any issues.

Geekbuying.com - Buyer Beware iMito QX1

Hi There,
I'd like to share my experience buying an iMito QX1 from Geekbuying.com - not for the sake of flaming, but really to help fellow community members avoid lost money and unnecessary heartache.
I purchased the item in June - and have yet to see a refund for a defective product.
It took forever to arrive - and upon arrival was basically DOA. It worked very briefly, in which time I couldn't find sufficient information online to try and flash the new firmware to get it to work properly (the Geekbuying forum information is very minimal, to say the least, and the response rate is very slow), and upon pulling out to try and refresh and reconnect, it stopped working entirely. I connected it to numerous tvs and devices, to no avail - signal has been lost.
This is a known issue that many people have posted about - and Geekbuying.com have completely ignored. See these threads:
http://www.freaktab.com/showthread.php?2539-imito-mx1-no-signal-to-tv
http://www.freaktab.com/showthread.php?4053-Imito-MX2-black-screen
http://www.freaktab.com/showthread.php?3447-Imito-MX1-doesn-t-work-gt-Black-Screen-No-signal
After reaching out to Geekbuying and explaining everything - and everything we tried technically - they initially were willing (supposedly) to provide a refund or alternate device (we asked for a refund), and asked us to fill out forms that they never provided us with, and since then have been stalling, evading, and unhelpful.
Below is the chat I had with their operator today, where they once again have evaded and chosen to be unhelpful:
Please wait for a site operator to respond...

I am sharing my experience, in order to ensure others don't go through the same, and to share my experience purchasing the iMito QX1 - which on paper is supposed to be an awesome device, but falls short in execution.
Good luck.
Thank you for posting this. I hope your post will help others to be aware too. But I have to tell you for every post you find like this and believe me there are many. You will also find many post on other forums that will defend this company and have complete lack of empathy. If you read those threads you will find as I have. They are generally from people who have a certain (ahem, cough) relationship with them. It sickens me to say the least. BTW, its not just the device you purchased either. I try to let people know that a lot of these divides can all so be purchased through Amazon. I am not promoting Amazon. I am just saying if something does go wrong. You have a much better chance of a fair outcome. Sorry to here of your episode. You were more than fair with them. I will not be surprised if there is a reply in their defense. Then again, maybe not here. But, try a certain f****tab forum and you will see what I mean. Good luck.

Thanks for the support - I'm sure you're right - I just hope that the sincerity comes through and that if someone who is looking to purchase an item from them and sees this post at some point, may possibly reconsider.
I never do things like this and if it were a small amount I'd likely just forget about it, but it's a $90 product.

Amazing such issue's were had.
I also bought my QX1 from Geekbuying however I ordered via Amazon (bundle pack with external antenna & Cat 5 USB adaptor)..
My order was received 4 days later (via USPS).
The unit works great & still no issue's on my end with my unit.
Also bought an airmouse from them (via Amazon again) & received that the day before last (2 days after order)..
Long of the short of all of this is I wouldn't put such hate towards one posting that's seen..
As I've had no issue's on my end once so ever..
Just stating my $0.03....
Shame about the issue's though as the QX1 really is I nice little device (however deva support is still very limited)..
My experience with imito qx1 is also positive. Bought it on geekbuying.com and was aware that shipping last LONG. Got it and it works like a charm. Had same issues in the beginning but flashed it with Finless 1.5 ROM form freaktab.com and it works great. That was a good decision.
I was able to RMA my CX-919 to geekbuying for just return shipping $8.
They asked for a youtube video of it not working!
Took two months but the new device works great.

[Q] Why would Google request IMEI of a phone??

Hi Everyone!
I've recently received an email from the person who sold me my N5 requesting the IMEI.
When I asked why he said Google is requesting it for security reasons.
I then asked him to ask Google to contact me directly, but he said that couldn't happen because the phone was originally bought under his Google account.
I'm not too sure if I should provide him with it, can anyone give me any advice on this??
Thank you heaps!
Additional info:
The phone was bought from a private sale over Trade Me, basically the eBay of New Zealand.
Phone was advertised as brand new but was opened at the custom for checks. When I received it, it didn't have the protective layer over the screen.
Later found defect on the device, and with the seller's assist I had it sent back to LG America and got an replacement.
Google already has your IMEI so I'd say to not send it to this person.
Yea they can use it to report it lost or stolen and get the device shut down

This was my first thought.
Which means they can probably get a crime number which their insurance will want before sending them a replacement
Only bad things can come from giving someone your IMEI...

As mentioned, it sounds like the seller wants to scam you and get the phone replaced and blacklist the one you have

Google (or other legit businesses) do not call people for their Imei number, you`re a fool if you just hand it to anyone. Do NOT give this number to ANYONE mate
thanks for all the replies everyone!
Appreciated!

What an experience! :(

Well what can I say, a complete farce from start to finish.
From pre ordering to the numerous phone calls and emails to cancel my order and then to try and return my phone for a full refund.
In the end I had to get the police, Santander bank and trading standards involved to get my money back.
I had to wait 3 weeks for my order to ship to me in which time they wouldn't cancel my order even though the phone wasn't built or shipped.
They then said they would send out a pre paid label for me to return the phone, 6 times I had to request this and they never sent the labels while the 14 day returns time scale ran out due to this! I rang DHL and they told me no request was ever made for a returns label!
This left me with no option but to contact the police ,my bank and trading standards, all of whom were brilliant and helped me out :good:, my bank did a charge bank and refunded me my money back. All emails that I sent and received was shown to the above and once Motorola found out I had contacted the above they refused to respond to me anymore
I now have a brand new and sealed moto x style sat on my shelf , I have my money back and I have done all I can to return the phone, I don't know what to do with the phone now?
This was my 1st experience with Motorola, I have read similar experiences , and no doubt that there are lots of happy customers. How can they treat customers like this.
Motorolas loss was Nexus 6p gain
Interesting, I got my return label in about an hour because I requested it online. No phone call was needed. I didn't send my phone back but I could. From what I have read that is the way to do this, go online, submit a return within a few hours you will have an email with the label, end of the issue. I think you will eventually have to send it back or more legal issues may occur.
Seems to me that the phone support is poor so just don't go through them
I wasn't aware you could request online, but I had numerous emails and phone calls asking for a returns label that should have been noted.
Yes i have the kept the phone in safe keeping until they ask for it back!
Did you check your junk mail folder? After 6 requests I feel like they would have sent at least one label.

doesn't matter at this point. Within the 14 days you can use the device as a daily driver so to them it doesn't matter. If I were you I would play with it. Just don't break it lol
Man, I feel for ya. I hate seeing stories like this. A horrible customer service experience can completely ruin what would otherwise be a nice device experience. Glad you got your money back in any case.
Have you considered giving the device another shot since you now have it? You'd have to send the money back again, but you wouldn't have to wait on shipping.
What made you not want the phone in the first place? Delays in shipping?

If it were me, I'd leave it sealed for 90 days at least. If at that point there is no dispute to the charge back from the bank, no contact from Motorola, etc, you should be safe to say you have a free phone. Keep in mind, just because you got your money back doesn't mean Motorola isn't disputing it on their end. And the bank could at any moment take that money back. If it comes to that, you could need to provide a sealed box device. If you can't, you could be out of luck.
Right now you have a free phone. If you sit on it for a few months, and nothing more comes of it, you still have a free phone.

You know, reading this post just made me decide to go ahead and unlock my device (that I've had for a week) for rooting/moding. I was on the fence because if I unlocked it I would have lost my warranty. But knowing I will never have to deal with Moto Customer Service is a good thing. I won't wanna lose my phone for weeks if something goes wrong anyway, so I'll be better with my local repair shop.
My previous phone, Galaxy S4, developed the dreaded swollen battery. And they wanted me to send it back for a replacement, instead of just sending me a battery. So that makes me not want to deal with customer service at all.
Sorry to hear about your experience. though.

For me, the prepaid return label was FedEx, even though the package originally came DHL. Might want to check with them.

Motorola contracts FedEx for the return. Not DHL. You went the wrong route.
Also, make sure your Motorola account has the correct email address. I used Google Plus login when I created the Motorola account and it showed some weird email address when I check my Motorola profile. I had to go in there and updated to the correct email address.
You will want to send the phone back. Contact any FedEx retail location, give them your address and they may have your label on file. If you decide to keep the phone, Motorola might bill you for it. If you don't pay, they will send you to collection. Good luck.

Samsung Upgrade Program

Hi everyone,
Did anyone else Pre order on the upgrade program? Also random question but if anyone has been on the program before do you know if you receive any letters?
I did ask and they said it's paperless but just wanted to confirm!
Looking forward to Thursday now!
Thanks
I've pre-ordered on the Upgrade programme. I haven't received any letters or anything yet, though the finance agreement stuff definitely said that they would send me something and that my 14 day cancellation period would begin the day I received my paperwork. Never even thought to ask about it though to be honest.
I am also on the Upgrade programme all transactions have been by email no paperwork through the post. Hoping to hear something on Wednesday about dispatching details (UK)
On a Side note I tried to get a Gear VR headset for free from Samsung but they sent me a email saying it was only free for US customers:crying::crying:
Oh was you on it last year? I've just joined
Was worried that I'd get letters in the post about signing up and my family seeing the cost of the phone lol!

Did Samsung even do an Upgrade Program last year? I don't recall seeing them doing it before this.
Yeah pretty sure I saw it for s7

im on it as well, and yes the paperwork is all electronic
Wished they had one for the US since I rather give them my money than the carriers.
Yeah I was gonna buy outright but then decided not much point. Shame it doesn't come with free insurance though like the apple one

Yeah the upgrade program only works out about £70 more expensive over the course of the full 2 years than just buying outright. The difference is you get a new phone every 1 year.
I guess the downside is having to give the old phone back rather than having it to sell or keep as a backup.
Insurance wise I did get an option when ordering to take out 12 months of Samsung Lite insurance for £99, but it seemed to exclude almost everything like loss/theft that you actually buy these insurances for. I'll probably take out third party insurance for it or something.
I didn't hear about this before can I get that in Ireland?
dont see the option yet
