Ive connected my S6 to the computer but it doesnt show up in My Computer. It shows that the MTP USB Device driver has failed to install. Any solutions? Ive tried everything available on the internet. Even kies and smartswitch and samsung drivers installed. Nothing seems to work at this point.
Does it work on another PC, or with a different cable?

Try to turn on usb debugging from developer options. See what happens. If it fails then probably your usb connnection somehow got stuck in charge only mode. In that case you will need to force mtp through commandline. Just see what happens after you try to turn on debugging first.
Additional note: this is pretty basic stuff but still worth mentioning. What happens when you try to select usb options type from inside storage settings? Does the settings option open up? Is mtp selected over there?

You can force mtp through command line only if you have root access. Are you rooted?
Since mtp is already selected in the connection type list, the problem is probably due to a bad driver structure. Disconnect your device from PC. Remove all the drivers and kies software from your pc. Reboot and connect phone. Try to see if the windows driver works out not. I am guessing you are on windows 7, right?

Ive tried that as well. Windows drivers also couldnt install MTP. Im not rooted. How did this even happen? I mean It was fine yesterday.
You can try these two solutions in their order and report back.
1) On your phone, go to Security -> Device administration->Device adminstrators. Check if there are any app with admin privileges, you have to deactivate them and see if MTP access works.
2) Connect your phone, swipe ur top menu down & tap USB PC connection settings, switch from MTP to PTP. Let driver's install. Now, go to the safely remove & eject media & eject your phone, when it says its safe to remove. Just switch your PTP back to MTP, see if the drivers install successfully then.

I just got a new Win7 Pc and now when I try to connect my Xoom to it it says Unknown MPT device. I tried installing the drivers to no avail. I didnt have this problem on XP. I am running stock ICS on my WiFi Xoom. Any ideas?
Where did you get these drivers from? Try the ones directly from Motorola.
You could drive removing the current drivers and SW. Try just using the device then runnign the moto install for those drivers. Make sure USB is enabled correctly on the tablet too. Is it charging from the usb connection? You could try a different port it shoudl charge regardless.

I am using the drivers and software directly from Motorola. I have tried it with USB debugging on and off. I have tried switching it from MTP to PTP on the Xoom and still the same results.

Go into device manager and see what's up. Make sure xoom is plugged in beforehand. Right-click My Computer -> Manage -> Device Manager.
If there are no errors (!) to do with the xoom, then some form of driver is installed. Manually delete these by right-clicking on them.
Then take out xoom, and put it back in. Win7 should automatically find the MTP drivers.

NO. It's kies that you load onto your PC. (It takes a while for it to install itself). I can't remember all the steps but it guides you. Then you connect up via USB and away you go.

If you can connect with Kies then you have the right drivers. You've got USB debugging enabled in settings/developer options. Now when you connect to the pc usb port you should get a popup on the status bar pull that down and hit turn on USB storage. That should be all you need.
OH, I forgot you're still on Gingerbread and unrooted ..is that right?

Here's the rest from my manual!

2. Connect a USB cable from your phone to your PC.
3. Tap Connect USB storage. Both the phone and computer
display icons to show that the device is mounted. As soon
as the connection is established a drive letter is assigned to
the phone’s storage device.
A pop-up window displays on the PC when connected.
4. Open the folder to view files.
5. Copy files between your PC and your memory card as
required.
6. To exit, tap Disconnect storage from PC.

Hi guys. I just rooted my nexus 5 and i used USBDview to uninstall all previous drivers as was stated in Wugs Toolit. Now whenever i connect my phone to the usb port.. it just says "this device can perform faster...." and thats it. I can't see the nexus device in My Computer or devices. i want to transfer files but i can't. please help!
I guess you rebooted PC. Then tried again. Can your device still interact with the toolkit? You removed drivers BEFORE rooting? Have you tried deselecting USB debugging (shouldn't be necessary) to see if you get access? I'm sure others who have had similar problems will help. In the meantime, you can transfer files using the network component on a file manager. I use Estrong but have used File Expert and Ghost Commander as well as Astro File.

Yupp i tried rebooting removed drivers, reinstalled etc. Even my Nexus 4 isn't detecting now lol! the MTP doesn't detect but PTP the camera interface works. Which is weird. I tried putting usb debugging on and off. Nothing helps.
I tried using another PC, and it works. Something messed up with my laptop i guess? Any solution.. other flash drives get detected but not the nexus.

It doesn't say Nexus 5!
Exact same issue with my Nexus 5 and my VAIO Pro 13. Can't figure out what to do to make it works. Even tried reinstalling windows from scratch. No luck.
Please help.
I have rooted and installed SuperSu and TWRP on my device.
I tried to connect my phone to my computer, it gets detected and drivers are installed.
When I cannect it as MTP, the drive on the phone does not appear on my coimputer. When I change to PTP, it appears as camera. But I can't copy files to it.
I have tried with another computer with the same result.I have rebooted the computers and I also reset my phone which didn't help.
What am I doing wrong?
Thank you

Do you just not see the device within you folders? Might be a driver issue, I had some problems with that initially.
Also, I had issues trying to transfer pictures/videos from my PC to the phone as well. IT would start the transfer but started crashing a few times before I was able to transfer everything over successfully. But that might just be a Win 8.1 compatibility or driver issues as well.

Yes I don't see the device. Maybe it's caused by the old Nexus 4 drivers.. anyway I uninstalled "Android Device" from my computer's device manager, unplugged the phone, then it miraculously installed the drivers... I'm copying mp3's to my phone now.
Thanks
Sounds like a driver issue. Google "Android naked usb drivers" those worked well for me
HI all, I seem to have a problem getting my laptop (ubuntu 12.04) to recognize my phone as storage when connected via USB. Here's what happened. I have already enabled USB debugging and USB debugging notify. When I plugged the phone to my laptop I got the usual message on the screen of my phone an when I clicked on it there were 2 tick boxes: one to recognize the phone as camera (that by the way worked) and the other one that recognized the phone as storage: when ticked nothing happened on my laptop, so I unticked both and now that bloody message is not coming up anymore on my phone, I only got one which says "USB debugging connected". ANy idea?
thanks

If so where can I get them from?
thanks

MTP is a proprietary and modern protocol, older or open source OS's will not support it out of the box. You will need the relevant drivers, not sure how to do it on older version of Ubuntu, may be worth looking in their forums (support is included in new version in the proprietary driver bundle). There are no drivers for Windows XP, but you can get them for Windows 7, I'll dig out the guide I have bookmarked somewhere.

Oh yeah the other thing I didn't mention is MTP honors your phones security, so if you have a secure lock it won't show up initially until screen is on and device is unlocked.

What seems to solve the problem is to pull down the notifications bar, which shows one notification which gives you multiple options for the USB. Please choose the file download option(usually the second option). Your OPT will show up on the PC.
Thanks and regards to all.
