In my opinion, the XT720 is a piece of junk. I'll take the Galaxy S over the XT720 any day. As far as "hacking" goes, you can only root it, overclock it, install app2sd, and install JIT. There are no custom ROMs because of the locked bootloader. The phone isn't smooth at all even when overclocked at 1000 MHz (Unless you have like two homescreens and 1 widget). The only good thing about this phone is that it has a 8MP camera with Xenon flash. Take note on spiderx_mm's post, he has everything covered.
If you'd like, I'll sell you my XT720 if you're in the Toronto or Ottawa area. It's lightly used and has no scuffs or knicks.

u proof me wrong dude!..here my 7 home screen...
The XT720 is quite laggy even at 1000MHz. I absolutely despise this phone.
Hi heat my XT720 all ppl have 2.2 yeah all and my XT720 don't even Moto think to get it out i have post to Moto on facebook and i say to do them i heat Moto and even my friends thy never will buy Moto what ever the do if thy give it for me for free i will not take it i have order Nexus S so bye Moto for ever ...........
This phone is a piece of ****. Im using a motoroi(korean version of Milestone) this phone is slow as hell on 2.1. After waiting for how many months this is what i got? All i got is a hotspot tha i dont use. I expect sonething new or speed boost. Speed boost especially. But its getting worst. F.... This phone. I tried all the tweaks. I even overclocked it to 1.2 ghz. But the phone just reboot randomly. Now im using it just for sms and call. Even during a call its so annoying that the screen was so sensitive the i always touched the mute button accidentally..
That's weird. You say you have Motoroi, but the Motoroi has 2.2 atm. Please explain
I totally love this phone. It's the best phone I had to date (I swear). Especially the camera rocks and unlike others, it works extremely good here and no pixels at all like some suggest
I don't care for 2.1 to be honest. 2.2 is a free update so if they don't wanna give it, then fine, I don't care. I don't need 2.2 anyway. If there would be a reason to have 2.2, then I say it's for the apps 2 SD, 'cause my internal memory is almost full So I leave it to Dexter to make an awesome 2.2 ROM and count me in as a tester for the rom (-hint- MotoBlur is awesome -hint- )
I mean the phone is slow on 2.1. I thought that they fix it on 2.2. Yah its weird that`s what i thought when i got tjis phone. But my korean friend has a galaxy s. And i played with it. Man! My motoroi was way far than this. Anyway maybe im wrong. Maybe the milestone model was more faster than motoroi.

I'm not sure what the issue is. I have my XT720 (NA version) overclocked to 1000mhz on 58 vsel and find it to be quite stable and speedy (I also have JIT installed). My experience that anything over 1000mhz begins to get unstable and you have to jack the vsel way up (more battery usage). Also, replacing the homescreen launcher really helped (Launcher Pro, ADW, etc) because the stock one really kind of sucks.
If my carrier comes out with the Nexus S in March as the rumour is - I might move over to that as I'm sure it will continue to be supported and none of the this 'staying on 2.1' BS will happen. But we'll see if and when my carrier does that...and how much it will cost.

$700 to $800 CDN
$699.99 at best
now back on topic, the XT720 at 1000 Mhz runs really nice, even on stock 720 Mhz runs good with Launcher PRO or Go Launcher EX
heavy 3D games runs fast, everything else runs great
so i really have no idea of those 3 people that have complained about the phone.
they might have not configured something right
Indeed AllGamer.
The phone is really fast here when overclocked to 800 Mhz or 1000 Mhz. Angry Birds lags somewhat at 800, but at 1000 is runs great. Also HD Video Recording runs the best at 1000 Mhz, but I don't care. Also, I noticed that when HD Video Recording at 1000, the battery doesn't use more than at stock. And 800 also doesn't use more overall.
I really love this phone and I won't be selling it for a long time (and my next one will also be a Motorola, I'm a Motorola-fan for years now, although I had a few other phones though between my previous Motorola and this one).
So people: please configure it right, 'cause this thing is really speedy when overclocked
I have to admit, that my xt720 runs absolutely fine..angry birds and any other game i've tested are totally smooth - only hd-video recording becomes a bit stuttering ( is this correct english? ^^) sometimes. And until now no JIT or apps2sd is installed

wat nid to imporved in xt720 froyo is:
- camera software (increase img quality)
- custom kernel (enable swap space, prepare for future games)
- greater space for cache (enable installation of battle bears -1.apk)
- stock oc to 1.1ghz (battery life can extended by setcpu)
- DEfy's stock music player
- xda xt720 special bootscreen (required a talented graphic designer)
xt720 ll be perfect..
wrong thread...sorry.
It's possible that the Motoroi is not as stable as the XT720 at 1GHz. The XT720 has a TI OMAP3440 (officially rated 800MHz) and the Motoroi has an TI OMAP3430 (officially rated 600MHz).
Stay away from this phone. The small memoy 256MB is really laggy when you have more than 1 widgets and/or running multiple applications (running overclock at 1000 already). Also, 2.1.... who would want a smartphone that doesnt keep up? Not exactly smart is i?

Trolling?
Seriously, the memormy may be small, but you're exaggerating here. It's not laggy at all with more than 1 widget and multiple apps open (even w/o overclock). And 2.1, alright, but Dexter is working on the 2.2 port and he's gonna throw out a bèta one of these days. So 2.2 is on it's way and if the kexec crack starts to work good, then we could also have newer android versions later this year. So updates are not a problem for now.
To the TS I'd say: throw away that Wave and get yourself the XT720 It's a really good Android-phone and like AllGamer says: not the top of the line, but it sure can keep up and the camera is really good, hardware too and it just does what it does and that's what a phone needs to do IMHO: do what it does.
But indeed, check the MHz to see if it's compatible.
With JIT, we beat stock Samsung Galaxy. It is unfortunate to be cheated by Motorola, but this phone is a good piece of hardware and sure a head-turner. I have done what Link2SD did, move apks to an "ext3" partition of SD card, and with 1GHz OC, it feels snappy all the way.
I won't recommend someone to buy it new (just because of Moto's stupidity), but if happen to have it, do not regret.
i've been using xt720 for almost 4 months and before that i used milestone, galaxy s and some of LG and sony devices from friends... i can tell u the best touch-screen is in Moto(after apple ofcourse), the hardware is awsome, screen is a REAL scratchresist, the cover is strong and the backside cover is stable + looks classy. software is android as u know and always getting improved(we're about to have froyo from dexter-thnx to him-with all other functions). the speed? it workes so fine withOUT oc. for HD record or even faster actions u can OC it to 1ghz without any problem and even with oc battery life is almost same! besides that, if u turn off all wifi-3g and other web connections and 3d games stop showing ads inside nothing has lags at all!!
if u dont know how to use a new device, dont say bad things about it!
i have samsung galaxy spica (i5700) which has only 168mb of ram and 800mhz processor clock, with several widget its still running well, still has a smooth scrolling, compare with xt720,xt720 device is fastest than samsung spica although its has only 50mb of free ram on system
I have seen other phones that are dual core too, i.e the Evo 3d, motorola atrix, but with 1gb ram. When it comes to gaming, and not just counting the 3d aspect of it. Will the 512 mb of ram be enough to run even upcoming games. Can this device stand newer games that other phones like the htc evo 3d might have no problem handling? Share some thoughts on this. thnx
omfg AGAIN???? :/
512mb are ABSOLUTELY enough!!!
just look at this review
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GEE65bNN8mc&feature=player_embedded
8 apps open and phone still fast
While the dual channel technology might bring some small performance benefits, 512MB will remain 512MB.
Current games should be no problem at all, but upcoming games (utilizing the unreal or unity engine for example) will definitely step up in terms of texture amount+resolution and general amount of data (see recent news of Shadowgun for example).
This could become a disadvantage at a certain point, but we´ll have to wait for some hard numbers when the time will come.
But i´m confident that the optimus 3d can keep up at least for 1 year (until we actually experience noticeable performance disadvantages with more advanced and complex games aimed at the Tegra3 Platform and other upcoming chipsets).
I have experienced some lock up'freezing issues when play the included games in 3D. I rooted my phone, so i dont know if its due to that or if its just due to the fact its a developer phone and the software is not final. I still love this phone, very fast and i get 8mb average dl's on Tmo here in the Bay Area(Hayward).
Could someone who has a pre release O3D unit have a look and see how much free ram is available after start-up please? (i'm an android newbie, not sure if this is possible on LG androids in general, without a specific app?) Just wondering how much ram the system leaves you to use....?
Thanks
Ian
i'm confused here...
i was under the impression that the concept here was tri-dual (dual core, dual channel memory, DUAL RAM) resulting in there being 1gb of ram configured as 512mb per core?
is that not what's happening?
It´s supposed to be 256|256 ^^
that's a bit dissappointing then.
however, as has been pointed out, it doesn't seem to affect overall performance much. i can see it being a hinderance to the future longevity o the phone though. a newer-than-gingerbread version of android on the horizon which will undoubtedly demand for higher specs could see this become a problem.
According to the presentation it's supposed to be memory for gpu and memory for system
Has anybody with a pre or final relase O3D managed to find out how much free ram is available after a cold start up please? (i.e no apps/games running, only a task manager) If it's something like 200 - 250mb then that should be ok i guess, HTC seem to think that amount is ok on their sensation, and that started with 768mb..... Sense 3 seems to be a bit of a resource hog, it seems.....
Thanks
Ian

hehe, agreed. i'm just fed up of my current phone. too old/not powerful enough for gingerbread and locked bootloader so only a poor port of cyanogenmod with an un-customisable kernel. long overdue time for new toys.

Sounds like you have the motorola milestone
totally.
it's like motorola gave me a gold brick and the punched me in the face every day since.
If an O3D is supplied directly from a network, and comes loaded with their bloatware, will this affect the amount of free ram available?
Thanks

Hi!
I own a ZTE U950 and I updated to the latest FW, but no matter what game I play, it has small stutterings every 3-4 sec. I tried a lot of games, even Dead Space that should run like butter, but even that has stuttering every 3-4 sec. The FPS is on the roof, but for reasons unknown it still noticeably stutter every 3-4 sec.
I tried everything...installing previous rom, closing all background applications, disabling auto-rotate, disabling wifi, changing powersave settings, but nothing worked.
It is really annoying that I can not get rid of this micro stuttering. Game running like butter, but picture stops for micro of a second every 3-4 sec.
What is the problem? Is it just that ICS is trash? A phone with Tegra 3 quadcore should not have stutterings like these...I get ~13200 points in Antutu. The ICS version is 4.0.4.
Oo...I'm considering this phone can give some real shot of the u950 n some screenshot to me..how bout battery life?
Sent from my HTC One X using xda premium
Not counting the problem I have, this phone is awesome, well worth the price.
However there is 1 more big problem: no "good" custom roms yet...there are some Chinese custom roms, but they don't really improve performance (I tried at least 6). With a good custom rom and a "gaming kernel" (like the One X has that unlocks the CPU and GPU to it's max potential) this phone would be a must buy.

Nobody has any idea about my problem ?

Got it today ,you must root it and update the rom in order to get rid of some bloatware.secondly there are chinese roms but based on the original so no real tweaking .if a cyanogen was running in this phone was going to be perfect but as i searched on chinese forum most have the basic knoweledge nothing more to build a kernel with mods or aosp .the phone is acceptable for daily usage for its price range.
as for the stutterring on random restart on games consider using the app released for htc one x to minimalise game settings so they can run perfect.i must also remind that the games were not designed for this resolution as most tegra 3 devices have better resolution.

Hi. After a year of having my S5 mini I am done. It is old and using 2012 processor in 2016 is not a good idea. So I looked at the phones and I decided to buy S7(Exynos model) for a quite some time.
BY YOUR OWN EXPERIENCE, can you say:
Will it run 3D (like C-OPS) games on max graphics on 60FPS?(Or 60FPS at all?(with low graphics etc.))
What are the most common bugs/glitches/problems on it?
Are they that bad that you would recommend to avoid S7?
If the device is not good by your opinion, can you suggest a different one?
Is it worth the price?
Why do I ask these specific questions? Because I don't have enough money to change the phone every year or even earlier so I want to have high end device that would handle minimum 2 years.
P.S.(if it will help) I can pick it up at electronics shop in my country for 400 euro(discount!).

I think the phone is worth the price, but you also have the one plus 3.. s7 runs all games on max graphics easily.
Im in love with the phone and im sure that it will last few years
And.. I bought it one month ago and until now i had 0 bugs and errors.. non rooted btw

I found my s7 overheating at first but then I under clocked it a bit(STILL VERY FAST AND SMOOTH) and my issue was solved. You can also try coolify.
If you ask me, yes, it is worth buying if you have a 3 year old, slow smartphone, due for an upgrade and features like 'Better Low Light Photography' and 'Water Resistance'. The phone definitely looks promising enough and looks absolutely beautiful. Consider your pros and cons budget wise, but I think it's definitely worth the buy.

I will not trip my knox. I do not understand the new sd821, they overclocked the WARM, HOT CPU.... It get hot, after 5 min of gameplay. completly useless the power it gives us, if u cannot use in warm conditions ( hot summers)

Those apps are all bull****, stay away from such stuff. The only way to lower heat is to lower performance, some apps might be able to underclock the CPU or change governor but those that claim to lower heat without root are just shady apps.
on topic: I bought the flat s7, exynos variant too and well, I'm not disappointed at all so far. Screen is amazing as expected, wifi/data speeds are top notch, battery is surprisingly good and most bloatware can easily be disabled now even without root thanks to this app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ospolice.packagedisablerpro (careful with what you disable, some apps are obviously necessary for the phone to function and disabling them can result in features not working or even bootlops, make sure you know what it is you're disabling)
as for cons, well the price will always sting so there's that, it also seems like the GPU on the exynos variant is slightly weaker than the one in the snapdragon variant but I'm not a big gamer so I can't comment much on that and it can occasionally stutter a bit if you're performing certain tasks, like having multiple apps updating while gaming or right after you apply a new theme but those are special occasions where the CPU is obviously being stressed. Day to day usage, there's not much if any lag at all.

What about RAM? How much is left for the user? I heard that's only 1GB... Now you will say "That's enough RAM!" It is. But the fact that 4GB RAM device leaves only 1GB free is unbelievable.
My Windows 8 PC x64 uses only 2GB when no apps are running. And my old Vista x32 used 900MB only! Even my S5 mini with Touchwiz when no apps are running uses 800MB or even lower. I even got 563MB RAM using only some time in its life. I don't know what the problem is but I think this is all Samsung's fault. Like why the hell they need to modify Android so much?! Just create a slightly modified Stock ROM with some additional apps like Smart Manager and Galaxy Apps and change to Samsung wallpapers and that's it.

You can't compare ram manager of Windows and Android systems, very different! In Android free ram is a wasted ram! So..... more stuff in ram....more quickly it opens app or background process, if the user needs more ram to open a hungry app the system will close other stuff to satisfy the user needs. Is this really important in the rom....ram manager! Samsung have to do a good job to give us a very tune and balance ram manager for the system running smoothly.

Yes.
You have Smart Manager in TW. It will tell you current usage and provide a facility to reclaim RAM if needed.
I have between about 1.6 and 2.3 gb free, depending on usage.

You have Smart Manager in TW. It will tell you current usage and provide a facility to reclaim RAM if needed.
I have between about 1.6 and 2.3 gb free, depending on usage.

You are talking about Snapdragon(US) or Exynos(EU) variant? Because that's what I am going to buy because I don't live in US which is kinda sad.

Doesn't matter. Both run the same TW.
So yeah Samsung said that it's integrated in the S7 and S7 edge, but what does that mean right NOW? I still haven't noticed any improvements in gaming performance, and games still drain the same amount of battery (as they say it improves performance in gaming and battery life, also it's said that the new TouchWiz uses or will use the Vulkan API, is it already being used or what?). What exactly should we expect and when?
My questions might not be well asked, but you get what I want to know

This post explains it pretty well, basically it's a new way to boost graphics performance and harness the full power of the CPU. It translates into more responsive game play, more fluid animations and a slicker/snappier touchwiz.

Thanks, I know all of this.. But it's still all on paper, right? when do we expect to actually see it and notice any difference on the Galaxy S7?

It will depend on devs implementing it when building their games, I'm not sure which ones/if any use it at the moment.
I think it's helped a lot with the optimisation of touchwiz which is noticeably improved although this could also be due to the 4GB ram and newer CPU in the S7.
I believe android N is supposed to add native support for the vulkan api so perhaps it will be more apparent when it comes.

I'm actually trying now to play Vainglory which is supposedly using Vulkan API, and I can't deny it, it runs smoother than a lot of games I have including clash royale, hearthstone and subway surfers.. even though it looks demanding.. Also the phone isn't overheating much like it does on clash royale and battery drain is normal.. I don't know if it's actually thanks to Vulkan or if the game runs like this on other phones as well.

Nice one, it certainly sounds like its running well although hard to confirm its purely down to Vulkan, without being able to enable and disable it on the handset itself. I suppose the way to test would be to run it on an S6 or an HTC 10 for comparison.

After almost a year of your post, I am also still looking for this information. Have you found what you are looking for? I am now in nougat with a game that "said" support vulkan api, but my analysis, cpu work is still high and gpu work is still low.
