I'm pretty disappointed. I was in Whistler about a month ago and using the phone around the pool. I didn't submerge it but it leaked and condensation got into the phone. Additionally, the phone has been exhibiting significantly poor speaker phone.
Subsequent to developing those issues, the phone got a very tiny crack in the corner from a drop. I sent the phone in for repair on the water issue and the speaker phone and the repair centre simply sent it back and denied servicing. Does anyone have any tips or ideas for getting servicing? I'm not looking to replace the display, simply the issues that are unrelated.
Thank you.
Can you take a picture of the small crack?

As you can see the cracks are tiny. And while I'm sure they won't believe me they actually happened after.
Thanks.
Even small cracks can damage the phone, because it is not water proof anymore. And that could be the reason for your other display unrelated problems.
Take a look at the teardown:
https://de.ifixit.com/Teardown/Sony+Xperia+Z3+Teardown/30464
I'd have gone with this route:
Get the display replaced by a Sony service partner. Usually you get your warranty back after that.
Send your phone in for another repair, if those problems still exist.
But I guess it is too late now.
You can get your phone repaired, but you will have to pay for that.
They are re-assessing for me.
I don't believe the water went into the phone through the front panel. I saw this because those cracks didn't exist at the time (they will not believe me). But secondly, the phone tells me the flaps are open through the software even though they are closed.
If they still deny, I will invoke a mandatory arbitration (per their contract) and see if they'll replace my phone. I am a lawyer, so I have some legal prowess. Nothing really to lose and their cost to pay their lawyers to respond will greatly outweigh the cost of repair. I will swear, under oath, that the cracks were subsequent to the damage.

Well for the first part:
That's because your phone is not sealed anymore. Probably because of your cracks in the screen.
Look, you have a glue frame that seals your phone. If you have some cracks in the glass, the glue won't be able to seal your phone anymore and water can get inside of your phone now.
https://www.replacebase.co.uk/sony-...hesive-glue-frame-gasket-set-original-7477-p/
--> Phone damaged
Sony denies the repair because they believe that is what happened. And I don't think you can proof the opposite, so you might be in a bad position.
I'm no lawyer, but you decide how much of your time is worth it
I can understand your position mate, I just don't think that you have a good chance
Thanks for your response.
Litigation is about a cost/benefit analysis. I am banking on that if I seek arbitration (as per their contract), that they will determine that the cost of arbitration vastly outweighs the repair to my phone which will probably be to them very little and they will simply repair it in good faith to me. Maybe I am wrong but I will make them work for it too, I will seek disclosures and all kinds of things under their contractual rules to drive their litigation cost up. I think they are used to simply denying things and people living with it, I have no problem commencing action against them.
They need to provide me with more substantial evidence as to their reasons for denying, not simply sending it back with arrow tape on it. Also they need to justify the reasons for denying other issues such as a poor microphone; maybe its related to water, maybe not, but that hasn't been substantiated.
To update the situation Sony has agreed to replace the phone after I escalated to higher levels.
This is why I would be absolutely absurd to repair the phone and then send it in for replacement you must try at least to escalate the problem first

Just an update. I have received a replacement phone and everything is good now.
It took me a very long time to get the replacement because of problems with sony (different problem) but I did eventually get one.

Look at the white line infer the 4 right on the edge of the adverscreen.. Would you exchange it?
Definately. It's not a pristine product, right!?

That's bad, replace it asap.
I don't even own your phone and I want to punch it.
Take it back.

This can happen to any phone.
To the OP: YES!
I would definitely exchange it!
Go for it!
Consider this: the fact that you had to ask at all may indicate that the problem is not so severe as to warrant an immediate YES! from yourself. You needed group consensus to push you toward a decision that obviously didn't bother you terribly.
There are two paths, padawan. Accept that nothing is perfect, and that what you have is completely bearable and won't affect the quality of your life one way or the other. Or continue forth and

I believe the fact that T-mo and friends have such a lenient return policy hurts all of us in the long run.

Its a defective product, most likely a crack in the LCD itself. How can you even tell him to keep it, god knows the underlying causes to such an obvious problem.
This is not a dead pixel, its a crack on his LCD.
Why would you tell him to keep a defective product is way beyond me, but I have a solution to your TMO cost problems, how about YOU buy from them the defective crap that is send back to them, its a win/win

I have been reading on this forum of people getting a replaced TF101 with dust and even worse light bleed. Now, if anyone with good judgement about this issue that would be great. The light bleed has gotten steadily worse over the course of a few weeks.
My question here: Is it worth sending back? Or am I simply overreacting?
I'm sorry, once again.
Here is my Transformer:

Seriously? Are you 5? It's not like anyone can talk you out of it. There are like so many threads out there with the same bs. What do you want to listen? Tell me and i ll feed you the answer you want. You are an adult and you are capable of making your own decision. All the facts are out there and just read and make up your mind.
Btw, the lightbleed thing is silly. How often do you use your screen completely black with max backlight? You should check how much it annoys you when you use it casually like wathing movies.
Sent from my Transformer TF101 using Tapatalk
I thought that some light bleed is to be expected because of the IPS screen?
I have a little too and small speck of dust under the screen. Personally, I would rather not gamble that I get back a "better" version since the light bleed is somewhat unavoidable. As far as the dust goes, I try not to think about it or look for it, and it seems to be fine, but it is just one speck.
I had a hard drive crash on my iMac, so I took it in under warranty. They must have had hairy gorillas working on it because it came back with several dead pixels on the built in screen. I sent them a complaint, but I'd be a fool to send it back to the zoo. I wish they just gave me the bare drive and I could have replaced it myself- faster, better, slicker.
Maybe it's kinda like an old car with strange noises coming out of the engine- just turn up the speakers until you can't hear the knocking... ooops bad analogy.
I've never seen/had a device were people didn't complain about something as stupid as "light bleed" but for some reason when it comes to the TF, it's starting to get out of hand... Either Asus knows how to attract the most misinformed/least technologically informed customers OR they are hiring thousands of agents to invade household all over the world forcing people who don't want the TF to buy it, thus leaving them no option but to seek some imaginable help from the internet.
If somebody is holding a gun to your head at this very moment and claims to be a ASUS rep just *wink* and i'll come to your rescue.
Light bleed is just a side effect of the technology. If you don't like it don't RMA it it. RMA is for defective merchandise, which this is not. These forums are like some scary groupthink center where everyone conspires to have the same stupid thought and then repeat it over and over ad nauseum.
All of these repeated RMAs for a non-defect are one of the reasons why companies are forced to use bargain binned parts to maintain a reasonable overhead. It's a vicious cycle.
Here is what you do:
Return it and get your money back and buy a different product. The Samsung Galaxy Tab is nice. The Apple iPad is a good product with high spec components. Buy what you like and don't complain about non-defects.
Or...
Keep it and deal with it. Does this light bleed prevent it from completing ANY of the tasks for which it is capable? No. Of course it's annoying, but is NOT a defect.
sassafras
I say put a post it note on your Transformer when you send it in that says, "Please send my device back with no backlight bleed and no dust under the screen, k thanks." That should do the trick...
I wasn't happy with the light bleed on my TF and I got a refund, it got progressively worse over several days, I did attempt to get a replacement unit but it had even worse light bleed.
If you feel unhappy with it, change it or ask for a refund if that's possible.

Hello.
It kills me to admit that my brand new $ 1200 surface pro has some light bleeding around the botton right and right areas of the screen.
Ive looked it up a but and it seems that this was an earlier issue so I actually didnt think there would be a chance I would end up facing this problem. I havent seen any complaints throughout may-june.
Here are 2 pics:
First one is with the place lit at the boot screen.

Second one is with lights out, black image on full screen.
They are both with brightness at 100%, but it really doesnt make that much differene if it's set to 50%.
What do you guys think? I shouldnt be expecting those right? I know that people had much worse bleeds once, but that was before.
I also dont want to keep exchanging till I get a good one, that's too much of a hassle. So if you tell me that all of them are probably be the same I wont exchange.
It bugs me that such an expensive device would present this kind of irritating and ugly problem after 6 months in production.
Warranty claim. Your entitled so why not :/
The thing is im visiting canada right now, and thats where I bought it. The store is called future shop.
Im still within the 14 return/exchange period.
And now im seriously thinking whether I should return it for good, keep mine or get it replaced, hoping the new one would be free from defects.
Get it replaced under warranty. At FutureShop, ideally, but any Microsoft store should replace it no trouble. That's definitely a defect; the backlights shouldn't be *visible* in that way at all.

But what if the next one is the same or even worse? Isnt it likely that he whole batch sent to the sae store would have the same production issues?
Test it before you take it home, get a refund if they can't provide a non-defective model? Leaving aside the fact that it's highly unlikely that an entire production run has a visually obvious defect, this is Consumer Electronics 101. Hell, it's Being A Customer 101. If somebody sold you a defective toaster, you'd take it back under warranty. If somebody sold you a defective Ferrari, you'd take it back under warranty.
I agree. Keep asking for one till you get one that satisfies you. You paid for it, so you deserve to get a fully functional product.

Thanks guys. You encouraged me. The thing is Im aware how most stores behave when such things happen. They will start to make things difficult, creating excuses and so on and on. I hate that.
Also, could you give me some ideas on how to test it for light bleeding in a bright lit store?

request to take it to a storage cupboard?
Here in the UK if a shop starts being awkward normally just just whip your phone out, make it highly obvious that your searching for the trading standards number, perhaps going as far as almost pressing the dial button and then they'll usually give in but from what I hear the US equivalent of trading standards are useless so shops might ignore the same threat.

You're right. That's why I always buy from stores that have great customer service. Microsoft store and apple store at good examples. They just replace it till you're happy
I've had issues like this with my ipad back when I had it. Its not normal and you shouldnt have any trouble getting it replaced if you take it into the shop again. They should know about these things.
I have a screen defect on my Moto X Style. Some red marks on the screen that have occurred. No physical damage has happened to the phone.
Details of the fault

Entered their live chat to sort this out. They requested images of the defect via email. I promptly sent the images.
Had to keep pestering for a reply for two days.
They got back and asked where I bought the device from. I replied it was from them and give them an order number.
Next reply said that as the device was more than 28 days old they won't offer me a replacement (which totally flies in the face of all UK consumer rights).
So I complained about this and told them about their rights and responsibilities as a retailer.
Their next reply pulled up the fact I bootloader unlocked, suggesting this invalidates the Motorola warranty - which is right, but doesn't release them from their responsibility as a retailer and doesn't affect my statutory rights.
I told them of the above and told them I want to exercise my right to a replacement (I still like the device and want to keep using the Moto X Style)
They give me the complaints address and told me to send a letter to them.
This is really unacceptable behaviour from a company selling in the UK. If I buy a brand new laptop and immediately install Ubuntu (which I would do) this would invalidate the manufacturer warranty, but not my statutory rights. So if I had a software issue, or I wanted help recovering Windows, I'm out of luck, because I voided my warranty, but if the hardware breaks, my statutory rights are unaffected and the manufacturer is bound by legal obligation to repair, replace or refund (depending on the timescale).
Lesson? Always buy from Amazon! They never quibble over faulty devices. Instant refund or replacement.
To be impartial as an outsider. If the warranty is voided due to bootloader unlock, they aren't under any obligation to replace, isn't that correct?
I have the red thing also. And I didn't even bother trying for a replacement because I bootloader unlocked :/

In Europe and America, if the defect isn't software related (or hardware damage caused by a software issue), they are still supposed to fix hardware issues under warranty.
Thanks for the info

Yep, this, which is the case I'm arguing with them now. The agreement on the website that voids the Motorola Warranty is invalid as it tries to invalidate statutory rights (which only a statute can void) and is keyed towards American laws (mentioning the FCC, etc). They can invalidate their own warranty if they want, but not my statutory rights.
Interesting that someone else also had the red thing on the display. Clearly this is a fault with the device, because I only ever installed Google Dialer and AdBlocking on my phone. I didn't touch any low-level settings in any shape or form.
Alternatively, I had a Nexus 6 (also by Motorola) which ran like a dream and was running an unlocked bootloader. None of these issues, but the camera was appalling, so I thought I was getting a better deal with the Moto X Style.
Good luck, stick it to them
@gmillz can you post pictures of the defect, please?

I should still fall under the SOGA, as I bought the device prior to Oct 1st. If I'm honest the new Consumer Rights Act is a huge step backwards, so I'm glad I'm under SOGA.
I have the red mark also but it isn’t noticeable unless i force a fully black screen.
I unlocked my bootloader before i noticed (maybe before it happened??). I’m not too bothered at the moment but if it gets worse then i might be a bit more interested in getting it sorted out.
Hi, i'm in Spain and today I called Motorola because i want to send my Style for repair because my screen has a vertical line of pixels that got unnoticed until yesterday, uneven backlit and the left side of the screen has a darker shade than the right. Their response over the phone? The repair is almost sure out of warranty and its up to their technician to repair under warranty or not because i unlock the bootloader but i told them that the EU law covers hardware problems that are not caused because software modifications and they told me that i could try. One of the most infuriating things is that i have to pay to send them the phone and they will not cover this expenses, unbelievable . And the icing on the cake is that they will not inform me of the status of the repair until i'll call them 7 days after i send the phone, and they don't have a tracking system in Spain. The phone it's great but this is my last Moto for sure.

Picture would be a great help, no matter how noticeable. 3 people with the issue so far is starting to be a good case.
I can get better pictures. I just gotta have an all black page.
Got an email form Motorola today. I'd been passed up the echelons of their corporate hierarchy to Motorola HQ:
Dear Mr. Booth,
Thank you for your patience.
We have decided to replace your phone exceptionally as an act of goodwill. We would like to send you a DHL label which will be valid for 5 days, so that your phone can be dropped off at a DHL drop off point. Once your phone has been received and processed by the repair centre, we will send you a new Xcode which you can use to order a new Moto X Style 64GB.
Could you please confirm your postal address and your phone number for me again so I can notify DHL?

This is basically their way of saying they will replace my phone without prejudice. I was right, my rights have been upheld, but no-one is going to admit it. But, I'll take it. I get a new Moto X Style. Now the decisions is whether to keep the replacement or not, because I will want to root.
If I do buy a new phone, it'll be from Amazon.
Hey Guys (and gals).
My Samsung Galaxy Alpha's screen seem to have gotten an odd 'defect' which i cannot seem to determine the cause of. Normally i would just beat the **** outta google for such issue but I cannot seem to find any documentation or even a similar case regarding following issue. (am i blind???)
Description: A few months back an odd 'line' in a 'silver/metallic/greyish' color appeared on the top right of the display. The damage itself does not seem to be a scratch nor crack on the display. It more seems to be some kind of liquid material but i cannot tell for sure. As said at first it apperaed as a single straight line on the size of a fingertip but that quickly changed; as you can see on the picture it has started to fork into multiple branches and is in general growing in a faster phase than in the beginning.
At some point i realized that the phone is 'old' and a repair wouldn’t be profitable to even consider. But there is one thing that bothers the living **** outta me; i cannot figure out what caused the problem in the first place! - I am most definitely not a phone technician but i do have my share of hardware knowledge in computer devices. And this does not seem to be near any kind of damages on LCD displays i have encountered on either laptops, monitors nor phones. I have my daily routine in a IT company where i work as an sysadmin; and therefore i believe that i come across atleast some people who could be able to determine the root cause such issue. - But till now the only 'convincing' argument came from a 'hardware chimp' at my local phone store that was certain the screen was cracked and the only solution was either for him to sell me a new phone or ship it to Samsung repair.
- If the device is flipped on the side and you examine the display from the right angle it is clear that the damage doesn’t seem to be on the protective glass nor the LCD display below it. - It seems (from my pov) to be either on the inner-side of the Glass or somewhere in between the glass and the LCD (trapped air? liquid?). Besides the visuals the phone doesn’t seem to suffer any other negative effect. Touch works flawlessly and the device still seems solid.
- Therefore i ask you guys; does any of you have even the slightest idea on what could be causing such issue?
Any advice / solution models / comments / muffins will be much appreciated.
Best Regards
