Already have a dead pixel after 5 days :( - Onetouch Idol 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

so yeah dead pixel apathy, am i the only one?

u still can return that?
Early better than late.
Im only into 2nd day

Sh*t happens. LCD tech isn't perfect and sometimes it happens. Good thing out was during the truth period.

Yeah it's actually quite common for dead pixels to occur these days. Most normal (non techy) people don't even notice them. I see so many people with them and they don't even realize it until we say something to them. Most start freaking out and ask us to fix them asap at first not realizing how much the assembly would cost them.

Dust under the screen of Fuze?

Has anyone else noticed dust under the screen on the Fuze? I bought two of them and both had dust under the screen right out of the box... is it due to poor build quality or did I just run into some bad luck??? Safe to say both went back to the store but I want to try one more time.
Thanks.
I returned 4 Sprint Diamonds, and 2 Sprint Pro's for that reason. When I switched to at&t recently, they brought out 3 Fuze's from their stock room that all had the same issue, and I ended up settling for the one that was the least obvious. I never saw this on my past HTC devices, nor Treo's, so I think there is definitely something going on in their manufacturing process that's causing this. I'm actually surprised more people aren't talking about this, but maybe we are just more OCD than the average person

Thanks for the reply. If you had that many issues with the screen of that many different phones, something is not right. It's hard to spend $500 on a device that has a issue like that from the very first time you open it. Who knows how bad it could get over a few months time... I'll try one more time...
I never had issues like this with other HTC devices... mogul, touch, ppc-6700... all were perfect out of the box.
Nobody else has this issue?

Dead pixels?

Well to go with my dust thats under the screen today i got a nice dead pixel as well. I was in gmail and can see it on a white background. Im very sad that after a few days all this has happened to my phone. Returning it today but im scared to buy another one. What would u guys do?
I would swap it and get a free replacement
Hey there. I got dust on my phone and in addition to that, i also realised that i got two dead pixels. So i was checking out this warranty statement that comes with the phone in the box.. correct me if i'm wrong.. as in the picture, does this mean that we can't get a repair/replacement due to dead pixels? Dead pixels mean dead spots right?

I swapped mine at Walmart last week due to 3 dead pixels. No questions asked after they saw the dead pixels.

I see. I once saw online about htc australia's warranty policy saying about at least 3 dead pixels for a replacement or 2 dead pixels which r 5mm apart. I'll wait for another dead pixel, then i'll drop by at the customer service center for an exchange. Man, this phone is just perfect except the dust and dead pixels. Even harder when the owner is a perfectionist lol.

Hey lightforce, did u manage to swap ur phone due to a single dead pixel?
Sent from my HTC Sensation Z710e using Tapatalk
I have held 4 Sensations and seen 2 dead pixels on one phone.
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using XDA App
my third sensation is perfect aside from having a column of about 3-5 stuck pixels. On a black screen, they appear red. Without any way to take a proper full backup of this device, I'm really getting tired of having to get replacement after replacement. Get it together HTC.
single dead pixel here. keeping it. no other problems, very happy with the phone

With how inconsistent Sensations seem to be, you're making the right choice. Better to live with a tiny problem than risk having much more serious issues. I wish mine was dead, or that it was just one pixel. A column of bright red near the middle of the screen makes me want to punch things

a dead pixel is like a pixel that does not light up at all. especially obvious when you are on a bright white screen, say on gmail or messaging app.

Expanding on that, because it's related, a stuck pixel is a pixel that lights up, but is stuck on, even when the screen should be black. Theoretically it could be any color, but usually it'll be just red/green/blue that are stuck.

i posted this before and actually i only got one dead pixel, while the other one when looked closely is just a stuck pixel which can be gone over time lol. phewh.
and odd that my warranty statement that came with the box says..
"Due to no assurance of 100% free of dead or bright spots in the manufacturing process of LCD display thus far, please note that no warranty is granted for LCD display to be without dead/bright spots."
which is similar to the warranty statement for Windows Mobile which i got from here http://www.htc.com/sea/support/warranty.html
but when i compared to the warranty statement for Android which i also got from http://www.htc.com/sea/support/warranty.html, it says..
"Due to the complexity of liquid crystal displays on handheld
devices, dead or bright pixels may sometimes occur. If the
following occurs within DOA period, then you can ask to replace
the LCD at our authorized service centre.
(1) 3 or more dead/bright pixels (*) anywhere on the liquid
crystal display.
(2) If there are only 2 dead/bright pixels, then they must be
within 5mm of each other"
why would HTC provide warranty statement which is for Windows Mobile in an Android phone's packaging? odd right? my sensation is a SEA version too btw. check it out yourself if you have all the time like me lol.

Oh yeah I forgot, there's an app for that! JScreenFix. Sucks to pay a few bucks to possibly be able to fix a manufacturing defect but oh well, just a few bucks. The app says to try it for 10 mins and get a refund if it doesn't work, how nice of them.

Paid apps are not shown in Asia so i tried apps called Pixel Curer and Pixel Fixer. they don't work. lol. i even tried to leave it overnight. blegh. is JScreenFix any better than other stuck pixel fixing apps? have u tried on your stuck pixels yet? if not, u can try the free ones first i hope u can get yours sorted out.

I tried it for half an hour with no luck. I could try running it while I sleep but I only sleep for an hour or two at a time so it probably wouldn't be effective.

Got the nexus. And one dead pixel.

First one. White 32gb. And I have one dead pixel.everything else is great. Its not too noticeable and I'm sure there are people out there with worse that do not know.
My question is would you send it back over one if everything else is good and you're happy? To possibly get a worse device?
And if I kept it. My one year warranty can't I send it back and rma on the 11th month if I really wanted?

Hell yea I would send a new device back over a dead pixel, you shouldn't have dead pixel.
Contact google about RMA asap, don't compromise about the level of quality of your device.
With the amount of pixels in these phones its very likely you will get at least one dead pixel. If it really bothers you that much then go ahead and RMA it. Most likely though you will get another device with 1 or more dead or stuck pixels.

This is something you could do of course. I would keep it if it werent near the middle of the screen myself but I would also factor in things such as CPU binning, as well as any other defects like the vibration motor. Don't know how common that is since I haven't visited that thread for a while but if I had a near perfect device with a high CPU binning and the pixel wasn't very noticeable I would accept it. If i had a cruddy CPU binning in i would certainly send it in hoping for a perfect screen and high binning. Its a surprise Google RMAs devices with 1 dead pixel. Most displays have a certain threshold that must be reached and its usually higher than 3.

Same here. I had one dead pixel...so of course did a RMA. I was like you and contemplated dealing with it, but then I realized I didn't get a discount for the dead pixel So the phone should be perfect.
My RMA replacement shipped today.
All depends on what you're willing to live with. There are 2,073,559 other pixels that are working, so, me, I would live with it. Beats going without the Nexus 5 for an unknown period of time.

You would keep your nexus til your new one arrives, so your never without a phone. Plus my RMA took about 5 days to get me a new phone, including a weekend.

Why? If you can get a free replacement with minimal effort on your part, why not?
I have 3 that I can see that are brighter. Look like stuck BUT even though I know where they are, I just can't see them at normal brightness levels. The density is tight enough that dust looks bigger. I am not bothering with RMAs. I guess I am not that picky.
got one dead pixel
got one dead pixel on the nav bar to the left of recent button.
going to replace it today itself.
got it yesterday.!

I have bought several devices with LCD's over the last couple years and no dead pixels. We are no longer in 2005.
Send it back OP.
I bought today 16 GB black.. I have one dead pixel but its not noticeable in 0% brightness.. Its hard to notice on 100% brightness.
Should I replace mine?

I guess I just don't like spending good money on things that are broken and can be freely replaced, but each to their own.

Does it bother you? If so, then yes. I think you should either way, because even if it doesn't bother you yet, it will play on your mind. You didn't pay for a broken one, even if the defect seems slight!

I don't quite get how spending $400+ and expecting something to be exactly what you paid for is classified as "picky". Maybe you were raised with a silver spoon or something, but this isn't a $10 eBay purchase.
I wasn't "bothered" at all with a simple phone call to Google for my free replacement.
To each his own though.

Screen Burn

Ive been using my S7 since it came out... ive noticed that about 2 months ago about 3/4 of my screen is darker than the other... i can see a really defined dark line that separates the two parts on my screen... Do you guys know how to fix this?
Ive tried pixel burn in repair videos but it gets darker... I dont know if i should let it run for over 8 hours... I just need some help l
That's not burn in or dead pixels, so the fixes you're trying aren't actually going to DO anything. Have you tried calling T-Mobile tech support? They'll probably just send you a replacement.

General First replacement since Nexus 6P

Yesterday I was doing some work around the house, pulled my phone out of my pocket to change YouTube videos or something. Noticed a black spot, dead pixels. I thought the other day that I saw a ghostish blur on the bottom left of the phone, the dead pixels are in the middle left of the phone. Have a warranty replacement coming. Coming it's the first phone replacement I've had to have since my eight or nine Nexus 6Ps under warranty.
My mind to maybe sell it and try something else, like the one plus 11, but man. Idk. . anyone else have similar screen quality issues? Maybe? I've just been lucky up to this point.

No issues here. Haven't read all the threads, but if it were a common fault i think it would be reported here (and noticable). Just bad luck with a dodgy screen... maybe.

OnePlus 11 might not be a better choice. I had one for just over a month when suddenly an entire row of pixels just went bright white for no reason (see attached). Guess any manufacturer can deliver a bad screen every once in a while.
congrats on the long life of the nexus 6p bro.
I gave mine up when they offered the pixel xl as a free replacement....the pixel xl sucked
