What would a dead pixel look like on the inspire. I just got this phone yesterday after returning my 1 st one. There is a black dot in the lower right corner.

I have a tiny tiny dead pixel in the top of the screen... no big deal, it's so tiny on this model... for $399 for the phone ya really can't expect perfection... it's the cheapest android w\ comparable specs to date, they're cutting costs to keep prices low. Thought about swapping it, but not worth the hassle because in 2 months there will be a next best thing and I know I'll end up buying it, lol
Had a stuck pixel on mine. I returned and promptly had a nice new stuck pixel free device. It was tiny and if I had to live with it, it wasn't that bad, but why live with it? It was distracting from my inspire goodness.

Yeah, but after having many phones after many years with many dead pixels, half the time the exchanged phone has a same or similarly annoying issue. It's a cheapy phone and I won't have it for too long, so I'm not worried. Funny how the people who make a big deal about a tiny dead pixel on the phone are the same people who get a big scratch on their car and never fix it, haha
Follow up...
Hmm, I just looked for the dead pixel and it's gone.. I took the screen protector off this morning, it must have just been dust under the screen protector... mehh.
I liked having a screen protector but the screen looks sooooo much nicer and is so much more touch responsive without it. This is the first phone I've ever put one on, and I will never use one again. I went with 3 brands and all 3 sucked.
Meh, I used to have an iPhone4 that wouldn't scratch no matter what you did to it. Put it with keys in your pocket, not a damn scratch.
I thought I'd have the same experience with the Inspire but no. I actually babied the phone, put it in its own pocket etc. but still ended up with a half inch light scratch where the capacitive buttons are. Good thing I can't see it unless I hold the phone at a certain angle or it would bug me forever. I promptly threw a protector on it, I strongly recommend them.

yeah, if you're not careful anything will scratch. if you don't want to stain your couch you can cover it in plastic, but then you have to lose some experience of sitting on a couch.

Im just as anal about my cars. Can't stand even seeing dirt on them. My wife on the other hand could care less. Her car gets dented all the time in the Pittsburgh parking garages and she could care less. Its only a car she says. I won't mention the price but its a very nice nissan armada, well was very nice when we bought it.

Do you know me or something? I swear I'm gonna get that scratched fixed soon! Lol!
Dead pixels have always bothered me on handheld devices. But I have really good vision. I can see pixels on an iPhone 4 screen. I see the dots on the inspire screen everyday, but they don't bother me much. The phone is too awesome! To me it's not a cheap phone. I may use it for another year or so.
Generally, a dead pixel is always a black dot, whereas a stuck pixel could be any color. I had two dead pixels on an old Captivate, AT&T exchanged it no problem.
Alright so I got my gs3 today and I recently noticed that there is a piece of dust near the top of the display. I know it is dust because it is still visible with the screen off. I'm not really bothered by it considering it's about the size of a pixel. Do you recommend I attempt to exchange it, or just live with it. It's in the notification bar and is almost never visible and I didn't notice it the first time I checked it for dead pixels.

If it doesn't bother you I would just keep it. It is a major hassle switching out phones and the stores will generally fight you tooth and nail to keep from allowing the exchange unless the phone is really defective. Good luck!

To be honest I have more crap stuck in between my screen protector and the Glass. It's hardly noticeable so I'm not really worried. I know if I go into a vzw store they will be difficult. Even if I get a new one it could have a dead pixel smack dab in the center. Still an awesome phone.
It was a huge pain getting my Galaxy S3 replaced at a Verizon store for a legitimate problem- I had a dead pixel. The employee helping me refused to replace it, until finally the manager came and looked at it, deeming it a legitimate problem and allowed me a swap for a new device.
So if it doesn't bother you, don't worry about it.
I had my first GS3 replaced by T-Mobile. Right after I called they sent a brand new one overnight at no cost to me. Sent first phone back with the included return shipping label. Everything was easy as pie.

I am in Canada but I imagine it still works the same. I never go into the store to deal with problems like that. Call them up (not the individual store). The people on the other end are used to dealing with that all day and have the policy down pat. I would believe they would resolve the issue immediately and send a replacement. At the minimum you will be opening a ticket (file) about the issue. An remember polite and firm, if the original person you are dealing with cannot resolve to your satisfaction request talking to a manager. They have more latitude when dealing with issues.
An I am sorry it's brand new. You are entitled to have it in perfect working condition including not having trapped dust. Give them a call.
P.S. An yes you are bothered by it, or you would of never taken the time to Create your OP. An I would be bothered by it as well.
Good luck.
I'm debating because right now I am bothered by it, but I know in a little while I really won't care. I'll see if I can get it replaced, but if I can't it won't be the end of the world.

Ha Ha, well I got two new ones. the second one had a dead pixel right in the middle.
Dirt Or Dead Pixel Under Screen
I just went through this myself, I bought a new S3 from Future Shop, it was great for the first 7 days then I just happened to have a grey wallpaper up and I noticed faint black lines almost in the middle of the screen and they ran from the top to the bottom, and as I scrolled the wallpaper back and forth they were very noticeable, I myself am the type of guy that now that I know its there it drives me crazy, I ended up taking it into the store and the sales rep looked at it and pulled another out to compare, he sat there for 10 minutes comparing it and finally told me the new one has the same lines but refused to show me it. So I took my phone and left. After I get home just before bed I noticed a black dot near the top, I tried wiping it off for I thought it was dust but it did not move, I could not figure out what it was, I thought dust but how did it get there in a matter of a few hours when I don't put my phone anywhere that it could cause dust to get into the screen like that, I ended up shinning a light on it with the screen off and it was not there so it was a pixel issue, I ended up going back to the store this morning where I had to argue and complain for 20 minutes before they finally exchanged it as they tried telling me it was dust behind the screen, anyway the new one is perfect. There should be no issue when you want to return or exchange your phone especially when you just shelled out $600 to buy it. But I suppose with the mass production of these phones there is bound to be issues with some.
Hi guys. I have browsed the forum but haven't noticed any post complaining about screen problems (beside one about yellowish screen temperature).
I was bloody excited hearing my package was delivered only to get hugely disappointed by 3 hot pixels on its screen. Two blue and one bright red almost in the centre of the screen.
Does anybody else found this problem? Or it's just me being unlucky?
Do you have any experience with google regarding to replacements? Is it stress less process or I will have to be prepared for lots of stress?
If you had device replaced was the new unit fault free?
Sorry but I am former Samsung customer (8 Galaxy note8 replaced due to dead pixels) I almost gave up hope for dead/hot pixels free displays

I've got 7 dead pixels on my Nexus 5. Going to phone them in a little, I'll keep you updated.
Be patient. I have spent almost 15 min listening to classic music on hold. They have asked for evidences -so I have sent them photos and still waiting for their decision.
Will keep you posted.
I was on the phone less than 10 minutes. Exchange an email with a couple pics attached, showing the defect on my device. Then, 30 minutes later, had another reply with all the information needed to receive a replacement. And keep the current device until the replacement arrives. For me, great service. Defect is like a leak under the front camera. Where it should be all black, there is a little hole that leaks light from the display. Odd.

I have no dead pixels but yellowish screen temp on low brightness. But this will settle with time, it is the glue that needs to dry out. It was the same with my n4.
One dead pixel
I have one dead pixel, almost in the center of the screen. However, at this resolution it's hard to notice, I think I'll keep it, I don't want to wait for an replacement.

Just got off the phone with Google. I got a "high call volume" warning but was only on hold for 7 minutes. My guy was very helpful and said they'll send out a replacement which *should* be with my by the end of the week. I keep my current Nexus 5 until then & send it back in packaging the new one comes in. Just waiting on a confirmation email now that this is what's happening.
Edit: Email received & replacement ordered. Fairly painless process so far! (touch wood)
I have one tiny green stuck pixel just under the status bar. It's only visible on dark backgrounds with high brightness so it doesn't bother me.

9 dead/hot pixels here, mostly in the corners of the screen. Called Google and was told to restore my device (I was on it at the time). They told me they'd email me the instructions and for me to call them back. I had already restored from Bootloader and I don't think my guy understood the difference between software issues and hardware.
Anyhow, new one is on the way, hopefully this one doesn't have any issues because I really like the phone.

Its not faulty, Google are only changing them out of goodwill, all companies have dead/stuck pixel polices and the higher the resolution the more dead/stuck pixels are allowable before the panel is deemed faulty.
I tend to disagree with you. Yes companies have their policies regarding to dead pixels and how they will treat the claims but do not forget about customers rights. For me dead or faulty pixel on the screen is not acceptable and if I feel unhappy I can (within 15 days) return purchased device. Of course if will do it this would be lose/lose situation as I will not have new shiny phone nor google my money. Thus they are happy to replace it (as long as it is as new and they will be able to put new stickers on it and sell it again - maybe next customer will not be as picky as me). So it is not really about "good will" as Google is not a non-profit organisation it's well calculated. On the other hand I would not expect such "good will" to replace the device after 15 days tho. But who knows maybe I am wrong

So I noticed today that the lower half of my display has a red tint, and now I can't stop noticing it. It's apparent in both night light and regular display modes. Do you think this is something they will send a replacement for?
It's very noticeable in apps using dark theme like XDA, reddit is fun, and imgur.

use that premium 24/7 support and report back how it was handled. we're all curious how it goes...
On first attempt, I used the chat function. They kept asking for a screenshot showing the red tint, but a screenshot doesn't work like that. Then after 45 min, I was told that this is taking too long and that I would get an email. I asked about a warranty replacement, and was told that is an option if this doesn't resolve.
I just want a warranty replacement...
I'll just call the Google Store during their business hours, obviously the 24/7 support and the Google Store are two different things.
Keep us posted.
I'll be calling the Google store first thing tomorrow, but in the mean time here is a picture of the issue. It's much more apparent in real life, but you can see the right side of the screen is darker than the left.
Just a quick update, they are sending me a replacement device. Hopefully the replacement doesn't have issues!
Good call. Yea that looks pretty bad, I would have returned it in a heartbeat.
Let us know how the replacement is. I have a XL and the top half has a pinkish hue. I'm debating if I should exchange it or not. I have noticed it on every device I've ever had with Amoled to a certain extent or another. It's for sure not as bad as other devices I've had. I'm debating getting it replaced. I'm just worried if I do the next one will have it worse, or a different issue that's worse. But for the amount of $ we paid for the phone it should be perfect IMO. I'll tolerate it on a $400 device.. not a close to $1000 device ($946 to be exact with tax)
Dunno. Ide exchange. I have had perfect amoleds on my note 5 and 7. Its possible to get a near perfect one.

I have the exact same thin on my Pixel 5 inch. Could it be the adhesive for the screen/digitizer needing time to cure? I read that in several places with some older phones and iphones. I might give mine some time and then send it back if it doesn't settle... Is anyone else having this issue? Or can anyone else confirm if their screens are perfectly uniform using a white screen?
Just went to a Verizon store and noticed the display models don't have this issue, I'm planning to get mine replaced...
Is there more than one factory making pixels? Or are they all made in the same place?
I know with the samsung line i had alot of issues with screens made in Vietnam, but all the phones made in China i had were perfect.

I received the replacement and it does not have the same problem, it has a uniform tint throughout the display. I doubt they will reject it, but hey, it wouldn't be a possibility if they didn't put that in the warranty exchange terms

I wouldn't worry about getting charged... there were a LOT of 6Ps that got exchanged for the same defect and I never heard of anyone getting charged. I went through 4 Nexus 6Ps before giving up on the lotto and getting a 5X. The issue seems way less prevalent this time around, but OF COURSE my Pixel has an uneven screen. Its not as bad as any of the 6Ps I had, but I've had my Pixel since Monday and I just can't live with it. I ordered my replacement yesterday. So far, everyone that has gotten a replacement between here and the XL forum they have been defect free! Fingers crossed.

After trying and failing with the S8/S8+ I decided to go for the U11.
I ordered two phones from Amazon, one for myself and one for family. They were the amazing silver. We powered them on, and then noticed backlight bleed along the lower edge. The guy on this review is the only reviewer who mentions it and shows the problem:

Not only that, but both phones had a dead pixel on the screen (But I think that's just my bad luck . I took it on myself to watch reviews on youtube, and I think the lower edge problem has been there on every review unit, but no reviewer mentioned it.
I really am considering a switch to the U11, but I have a serious screen OCD so I wanted to put it to you guys... Do you all experience this? And is it terribly bad on every day performance?
Thanks

No shadow, no dead pixels (just went through a full pixel test - jeez this backlight will blind you on full!), no scuffed glass, nothing. It's the first device I've ever gotten from HTC with no complaints about the screen (my M7 had a yellow tint as did the M8 and the first few weeks of owning my 10, the glue hadn't settled so it was pink tinted and I had to have the Sprint store open up 8 EVOs before I found an acceptable screen to give you an idea - never had a dead pixel except on AMOLED ironically enough).
It's the Sapphire Blue.

Yeah out of all phones I've ever ordered, this one is by far my favorite. Ridiculous battery life, no lag, great screen, no gimmicks (edge sense is actually quite useful - I use it to launch my camera immediately when I'm out and about), excellent camera, doesn't overheat, crystal clear call quality, loud speaker set up... Only thing I don't like is News Republic chewing up my battery and not being able to disable it.
I haven't even rooted it yet. Every other phone I've rooted within a week, oftentimes the day I've received it. I ordered it May 16th from HTC on pre-order and got it on June 9th. No phone has ever been in my possession that long without being modded somehow, even if it was just changing the launcher.
The light bleed problem affected every review unit as you said, and there have been several threads here mentioning it. My conclusion is that nearly every U11 has the problem although it's rather subtle so not easy not to notice if you don't know about it.
Personally I'm rather OCD about screens and I'm not happy about this defect but I'm now used to it. The location is just one that you don't look at normally. In fact I think we've grown used to ignore the lowest part of the screen as it's where ads normally sit. Also it kinda helps that the bleed gets reduced a lot depending on the angle you look at the screen from.

Thanks. I am considering getting a device regardless. I will ponder it over the weekend - and if you are OCD and can live with it, so must I. If you can help with advice on how to deal with such impulses (over screens), do drop me a message. I am desperately trying to drop that habit off.

I'm very OCD regarding LCD screen and the phone itself. The phone is perfect except for the light bleeding, a stuck pixel and some sound static in earphone. Otherwise the phone is perfect like the camera, sound, battery life and performance.
As I bought the phone from Hong Kong its a pain in the... To return it. So with a 10% discount off that seller gave me I learned to enjoy and love the phone.
My HTC One X, M8x, 10 U11 and the S8+ all suffered from flaws being the S8+ the worst (random restarting and pinkish screen tone) so I'm not a lucky person about phones.
@evak2979 i sent you a message but basically it's about accepting defeat when it comes to small flaws, unfortunately there's not more to it. Although of course, if your phone has serious build issues that no one else has it should go back to HTC.
I have is as well. Actually this is my second unit (Black), the previous (Silver) had it as well. I can see it in display test application but I would say it is not affecting normal usage. Overall I am happy with display quality.

Like I told my new pal on PM, I got the S8+ new for a very good price (539, UK).
If that sinks, I'll bite the bullet and return to HTC. It's funny because I don't mind scuffs, or scratches, or what. I just want a normal okay screen. I remember being happy with Note 4, with S5, With M8, With M9.
Then this new fashion started with every display being the dumbs
And the S8+ arrived with dust under the glass.
I've fought for a long time with my OCD to accept that AMOLEDs will never have consistent whites (though my one plus 3t is perfect, the one phone I've kept over the months). As of late with the S8 it's also been, full red edges, dead pixels, dust specs.
Let's try the U11 again. If it just has light bleed and no dead pixels I'll keep it...
I don't have light bleed.
I use edge to launch my calendar.
Sound through the earphones is shockingly good!
It looks dated in any other color but blue or red.
Those bezels? Ug.
The screen is beautiful and they've coated with oleophilics that feel INCREDIBLE.
The camera is excellent.
It's a very VERY good phone.
I have it on mine, but It's hardly even noticeable... Definitely not a game-changer for me. It's not enough for me to return it for a new one.
Just updating that I received my HTC U11 black, and I sent it back with a dead pixel. That's the third U11 with dead pixels, the first two having been silvers from Amazon.
I have also encountered issues with S8s (dust under glass), but not so much or frequent.
I want to get a U11 more than I do an S8, but I am really really skeptical about a few things - the build quality of the panel. The reports that some of the units are not so water proof (The solar reds apparently, a youtube search I did testified to that.
Sorry for diverting this thread from its original post, but I am really curious about you guys' opinion. I agree to having screen OCD, and that I should lower my standards when it comes to white consistency on AMOLED, for example. Or even some light bleed on LCD panels.
But dead pixels? Dead pixels on 649 pound devices, top end flagship? What is going on with QC and how lost must we drop our standards.
And if anyone thinks I am lying I am happy to provide with pictures...
If anyone from the UK has a relatively faultless HTC, please tell me where you bought it from so I can buy from there myself. And which color variant.
Thank you.
Hi, I believe you as I have the same problem with my Asian version. But can you share a picture? I want to compare mine with yours.

Of course...Here. Same on all three, just in different positions.
Mine is in a similar position but it's not black. Indeed it changes according to the color but of course it's different from the rest. Mine is more a defective pixel than a dead or stuck one. I thought it was the same pixel issue but it's not.

Nah mine is dead dead.
I am considering a 4th U11. At this point, I don't even care about the light bleed. But 3/3 with dead pixels, it can't just be bad luck. That's the thing. I mean this is very bad QC. None of the reviewers are mentioning things like this. Or the issues with the S8 screen.
I think at this point someone needs to step up and say : ok guys, these are the GOOD things about the phone. But there is also
S8 (red tints, even after patch. Bad smudges on grey. Dust particles under panel)
U11 (Dead pixels. Light bleed at bottom of the screen).
In the end, the only trustworthy review is XDA forums and its users.
