No idea if this works, just came across it and figured I'd point people to the discussion thread:

Saw this as well. Wanted to see if this worked on the VZW S6 as well before taking the plunge.

I looked into making the changes to the build.prop but ours is pretty different than the tmobile version. The instructions state that not all S6's will have the same lines to delete but they also mention that leaving duplicates will cause a bootloop. I don't feel like having to odin and wipe my phone if it doesn't work and at this point I cannot nandroid. I will wait for someone braver than I to post their results here :fingers-crossed:

I added the lines and deleted the duplicate lines (was about 3 or 4 lines)
Did seem to do the trick.
**These are the lines i used and**
#MultiTasking Tweaks
ro.config.dha_cached_max=15 - duplicate line
ro.config.dha_empty_max=42 - duplicate line
ro.config.dha_empty_init=42 -duplicate line
ro.config.dha_th_rate=2.3 -duplicate line (maybe cant remember)
ro.config.dha_lmk_scale=0.545
ro.config.sdha_apps_bg_max=70
ro.config.oomminfree_high=7628,9768,11909,14515,16655,20469
Yep. I did the same thing, and I'm not getting as many redrawn at all. Apps are definitely staying in the state I left them instead if restarting. Very happy.
Scrub that.
My phone was sitting in my pocket for 10 minutes, and when I went back to the apps, they all restarted. I hadn't noticed this much before now, but it's annoying me now.

Eh. I went for it. Just a heads up to others, there was only 1 duplicate value for me to delete, not the 3 or 4 that most people are reporting.
Not sure why the differences but my phone didn't get stuck in a boot loop :good:. I will try to remember to post back after using the phone for a bit to see if there is a noticeable difference.

Thanks for the reminder!
Overall, switching back and forth between apps does seem faster. I haven't noticed any slow-downs after extended periods of time (2+ days without restarts). The phone doesn't run any hotter, battery life seems the same. Apps still reset after a while though, relay for reddit is something I use quite often but if I don't use it for a few hours it reloads.
I was hoping this would solve a slow-down issue that I am having where I am running spotify, waze, and textra's pop-up response (as a passenger of course). It didn't, the phone still slows down in this situation.
Overall, I don't see any downside to the tweak, so go for it.
Just a thought. Has anyone thought about using an apps2sd type of app to free up memory space? I remember having to do this years ago on an older phone (probably an older nexus)
Admittedly we shouldn't have to be doing this, but needs must.

This literally has NOTHING to do with RAM. RAM does not equal storage space. What you are referring to is freeing up storage space -- again nothing to do with RAM. Secondly, there is no SD card space, so this does not even make sense to do on the GS6.
Now, I have a question for those who have edited the build.prop. Has anyone used Root Explorer to do so? Secondly, to avoid bootlooping, did anyone change permissions of the build.prop file? To quote someone from a different forum:

I changed my build.prop file using root explorer (long click and edit in text editor)
When I saved it, it gave it the right permissions as far as I could see. It also backs up the original file as well.

Also, I trusted Samsung to have given some thought to memory management themselves, and not have us figure it the f**k out. I thought I was done with this years ago.
My retired moto x on Kit Kat is far superior to this phone in many regards.
i'm just frustrated. This is an expensive-assed phone, and it looks like we are being treated as guinea pigs. Not a pleasant feeling.
Just did this and restarted, phone seems to be a little snappier though my RAM still shows pretty low. System is taking up 1.3gb down from 1.4gb and my free is hovering around 800 mb. still not ideal but not terrible.

you can do it yourself.
download a firmware (e.g. the one you use), extract the factoryfs.rfs and open it with MagicISO (simply go to file, open, select the factoryfs.rfs file and hit open), there you can select the apps from system/app
I have a UK tab which came pre-installed with NOVA HD. Since changing the firmware/updating the tab (following a few of the threads on here) I lost a few of the pre-installed apps. I got most of everything back worth anything (and a lot of the Samsung apps were just links to various websites) but I lost NOVA HD. I'm loathe to pay for it and wanted to know if there is any way to get it back? Was tempted to bluetooth the APK from a demo machine. Any suggestions or is it gonna cost me £3?
Thanks

Not 100% sure.
You will need swype.apk from system/app and libswype.so from system/lib
Try it
Thanks again, didn't need lib but I'm guessing that is because I didn't delete it before. I did have issues installing live wall papers though, I ann going to get the lib files and try again.

All thanks to Brainmaster for whipping this up..
I will post the results I've had to save you a few steps...
I did his test mothod using root explorer and sd Tools and tested each one of his recommended settings..
(I have the stock SDcard that came in my showcase, i'm assuming it's probably the same in the Mesmerize?) It's a Samsung microSDHC class2 16GB..
I'm running the EB11pnp3 with voodoo lagfix enabled. The OP says you need to test these to see which one works for you. But I thought that if we have the same phone/same sdcard then it MAY be the same results...
so here's my Results:
128 3.7 MB/s "WRITE" 14.1 MB/s "READ" **This is what the phone is set to at default
1024 3.2/14.6
2048 5.1/14.4
3072 5.3/15.0
4096 6.7/15.0 <<<this is as far as he has listed and it gives the best results, Doubling the "Write" time and improving the "READ" time by a LITTLE!!!
I haven't tried flashing yet, still reading through the pages, but came across this POST.. Which may be the way we would have to make it stick past rebooting...
Maybe some of the SCH-I500's dev can take a look at this and improve it even more for us..
After Testing for hours, i could never get a reliable score with SD tools from the market.. I'm thinking this is just one more ****ty issue with the Galaxy S phones!!! Thanks Samsung, I'll never buy any more of your **** products..

not sure why there would be, you're just adding cache to the sdcard... and like the OP states, if you do this through rootexplorer it reverts back to factory after rebooting..
You have to do one of his methods to make it permanent...
There's also an app in the Market called SD Speed Boost which does the same thing. It doesn't require you to use Root Explorer to change the value and it has a Set at Boot option so no flashing from recovery is required either.
I bet you could use Tasker to automate this at boot time as well. Nice find, Elijah. I had seen the app, but I would rather do it this way.

If you flash one of the zips from the original post it is automated or if you use the app I mentioned it is automated, not really sure why you'd need another method to accomplish automation but to each their own. The zips just copy a shell script to init that set the value at each boot and the app just sets it when it runs at each boot. Of course the init route would occur prior to the app, but don't see much difference regardless of the chosen solution.
EDIT: Also YMMV with whatever option you choose to apply this mod. 1meg,2meg,3meg,4meg all yielded similar results for me, but I'm not using the Class 2 16gig that comes with the phone. I would imagine slower cards would see more of a benefit.
The reason I would rather use Tasker is to limit the number of things besides the ROM that I'm flashing to the phone (just to keep things as clean as possible). Plus, with Tasker doing it at boot, any future ROMs I install won't need any tweaking. I'll just have to import my profiles, which I'll be doing anyway.
ok flashing in CWM didn't work... It didn't hold the value change after rebooting..
And speaking of the app that does this... The Galaxy S isn't listed as compatible

Just verified that the app does change the value to whatever I select. Could be that the author just hasn't tested on Galaxy S and therefore didn't risk saying that it was compatible. I mean were just talking file manipulation here, nothing more.

Hi. After months of searching and no luck I finally found what caused my battery drain. I had strong overheating near the camera so I decided to search a bit on that. Turned out MicroSD problem. I had ~20.000 files on it (and search indexing was doing all this crap). People reported overheating gone after removing the SD. I deleted the files and voila - no more overheating and drain for me. Its back to the normal battery life when I bought it. It used to drain 5% every 10 minutes before. Many of you probably know this but I thought it may help someone.
Hmm.. What size sd did you have installed? What's your rig? What manufacturer, sd?
I have experienced the over heating as well.. Right underneath the camera lens. And yes, more noticeable when playing games.. (that possibly have data stored on sd)
Note 3, rooted, stock ROM
Galaxy gear 1, rooted, null_rom, stock launcher
.werd.
Yes, that happens. It's been mentioned in the quite numerous battery threads around here repeatedly.
- You may have one or more corrupt files. Hook the card up to a computer (via a cardreader or slot) and do a global search for 0kb files on it. Delete all 0kb media files (ignore the playlists and .nomedia.)
- Drop a .nomedia file in every folder you don't need to see in your gallery, Stock video or Stock musicplayer. This tells mediascanner to skip that folder. It applies to all subfolders as well, so dropping one in your ebook folder is enough to exclude all folders within that folder. (so anything containing stored maps, documents, textfiles, apks, appfiles (you can safely srop one in the Android folder, if Android hasn't already done so.), books, etc canbe safely excluded. If you find you need the folder shown somewhere after all, just delete the file.)
You can copy the ones already existing in several folders on the phone (Android creates them.). May need to enable hidden files first.
For instance, I have one folder containing a total of 24.238 files in 1.439 folders. These are all saved websites for documentation when I don't have internet access. Before I dropped a .nomedia file in my 'Websites' folder, my battery drained within a mere few hours, and the phone always ran hot. Dropped a .nomedia file in there, problem solved. Indexingservice skips the folder entirely, and I can access it via the filemanager (ES in my case, but stock works too.)
The Stock players rely on the Indexingservice. If you use an alternative music player, you can also add one to your music library. (Keep in mind this might disable the album arts. On N7 it works fine, haven't tested the rest.) Quickpic can be set to show folders hidden by a .nomedia file.
Videoplayers use Indexingservice, so adding a .nomedia file to the video folders excludes them from the videoplayers. You can still launch the video from your filemanager though. No issue there.
Oh, and ringtones, alarms and notifications require indexingservice, so don't add a nomedia file there.
worked for me

Oh well, don't try calling Samsung support for a new battery. They had me waiting for 3 weeks when they told me they'd send one out, only when I rang them the fifth time a manager said that's not what they do and told me he would do nothing to rectify their mistake while being a complete a$$ to me.

There's plenty of advantages. And just like everything with Android, it needs proper managing. If you want a use-and-don't-think phone, buy an iPhone.
A large point is that I actually have something to watch and listen to and read during my 7.5 hour daily commute of which 5 hours are a zone where I have no mobile signal whatsoever (or G, if I'm very lucky.) Renders a cloud or streaming service rather useless, wouldn't you say? And I shall not even bother to explain to you the concept of borders and roaming charges.
Not to mention that if my phone dies, at least all my personal data is safely stored where I can get to it.
I've listed exactly what to do to prevent this issue in my post a few posts up. It's a simply copy-paste approach that takes about a minute in total.
Or do you complain about the pointlessness of TV's, too? Seeing as how you need to spend a minute connecting it and selecting the proper channels upon purchase....
My brand was Samsung 32GB, I believe Class 6 or 8. Rom always stock and rooted. I always ignored the fact that it may be SD problem. I'm so relieved this problem is gone. Strong overheating where I can't touch it was existing almost every time even on simple youtube videos watching. I never had this issue with my previous devices. Just try unplugging the SD card for few days and drain/charge battery and see for yourself. If it works then great.

Relax. No need to shout and cry. Don't be insecure about your phone. Did you see me talking about iPhone? Or have you ever seen an iPhone user firing at another iPhone user and asking him to go-buy-an-android if he needs clarification about anything? No. They ain't that insecure like many of the android users we have. Case in point, as seen above.
Moreover, I cannot comment on your TV comment since I don't watch TV much. I prefer YouTubing
yes this is true...I had been facing this issue since the days of Galaxy S2, only solution is to not use the sdcard...formatting the card works but only for a few days, or until the time you start filling it up...creating a .nomedia file in every directory doesn't seem to work for me!
anybody else got it to work?

I'm not quite sure how you got insecure from that.... I own 5 smartphones, I happily use my Note 3 without a shred of doubt every day. And if I was insecure about Android/Samsung, I wouldn't be working for them to help others fix and get the most out of their device.
(Also, maybe men feel the need to be insecure about something they own and see as a reflection of themselves (it seems to be a reoccuring theme with that gender), but I'm not a bloke. I don't see my phone as the metaphorical representation of a phallus I do not have.)
Kindly stop projecting your own feelings onto my comments.
Youtube is utterly useless when it comes to TV shows though. (Admittedly, so is telly these days)

By poking your nose in and suggesting to buy an iPhone, I can clearly see how secure are you with your device. You wanna fix something? Fix yourself dear. That will help you in long run.
And by the way, sorry to burst your little harlequin romance bubble with you "TV". There is more to the world than an iPhone or a TV. So stop BS-ing. Think you don't want a phone.. You want a life. So why not get one?!!

No, it won't. The Media Scanner is Android, Not Touchwiz.
You need to tell it where not to search. It's that simple.
Hi all,
I too have spent weeks looking for a solution.
I froze Sfinder with Titanium and now my Galaxy is OK!
Anyone else notice this?
For example. I'll open up chrome, go to a webpage, exit chrome, and then when I come back to chrome it starts reloading the page again. I've noticed it refreshes or restarts a ton of apps after I come back to them after a short amount of time and it never puts me where I last left off in the app. Even my two year old phones keep apps open longer.
What's up with this?

You have to setup your device properly then you have enough free ram for multitasking. Out of the box the system alone uses like 2gb+ of ram which is to much imo. Stock lollipop uses around ~500mb of ram. After all these years touchwiz is still a ramhog nr.1
Just some quick tips:
- use stock launcher from google or nova or other lightweight launchers
- deactivate facebook and messenger and almost every google app that you dont use
this alone will save you like 500mb ram alone. Everything else you'll find in the ram usage settings from there you can see what uses most ram and if you dont need it just deactivate or deinstall this ****.

Problem is that I did not have this problem on my Note 3(with lollipop 5,0) so why should I have it on the touchwiz "lite" on the S6? same RAM on both devices.

This issue is discussed in the other thread, but this one is appropriately named. The issue is driving me nuts, but I didn't find anyone else complaining until I saw this thread.
Bloat or no bloat, it's incomprehensible to me how you can't even have three apps running on a phone with 3 GB of ram. My OPO could easily have six or more apps running at the same time.
Well, my galaxy s6 is going back to T-Mobile. LG G4 here I come.
I don't think ram is the issue. I just checked: system is using 1.2gb of ram and apps using 400mb. I have over 1gb of free ram. That's a ton.

I really like the phone too, but I'm constantly down to about 200-400 MB of RAM although I've removed most of the bloat and I'm not running any weird apps that I haven't used on other phones in the past.
Not too keen on rooting cause of all the warranty issues either...sure hope you're right about them fixing it.
You're not supposed to have free RAM...
Android’s operating system has its own native handler for assigning RAM to apps and making sure that all of it is being used in the most optimal way. In fact, Android purposely tries to keep apps loaded into RAM for better performance. RAM is fast, remember? On mobile devices, every bit of speed is critical for a good user experience, so keeping apps in RAM is actually a good thing.

There definitely seems to be an issue with apps being closed too quickly but I don't think it has anything to do with the free RAM numbers you're looking at.
I wonder if there is anyway to submit something to samsung so they are aware of this issue. If this wasn't an issue, this phone would be nearly perfect.

Thanks, I know this. Doesn't change the fact that my OPO had about 600 MB more free RAM at any given moment and multitasked like a champ.
Hope they'll fix it soon.
Really don`t think it`s the issue with to low RAM, I belive this is a management issue or a bug thats just kills the apps to quickly or even maybe lollipop 5,0,2 issue that samsung missed? I sent samsung a mail about it yesterday so hopefully they will contact me back.
I'd be very interested to know whether someone who has rooted and changed the minfree settings still experience the issues described here.
Also, did you receive any response from Samsung, Johan?

Call Samsung customer support. I did for the flash remaining lit, and they weren't even aware of it. We need to be notifying Samsung of these issues, not our carriers.

I don't want to get into a whole debate about root but I am coming from the G3 and previously had the G2. I had both of these rooted with excellent Cloudy stock Roms.
It is my goal to live without root on this phone. It seems to run great, has enough ram and battery to handle lost background apps with little to almost zero lag. I am just kinda tired of the TWRP, ROOT, TB, Flashing lifestyle... Lol. Been doin it since the HD2.
However I did not discover until yesterday while using the phone unrooted that Dual Window is only limited to a handful of apps. I guess with the rooted Roms the mod for other apps was already in place so I never noticed. I honestly gotta say that's pretty terrible. I don't understand the thought process behind why LG would limit such a strong multitasking feature. I personally used it to balance my checkbook beside my bank app. SUPER EASY! Now this kind of sucks. It might be enough to make me root it. I am trying the ad block thing I found in another post but this dual window thing is a FAIL without root IMHO.
Otherwise this is a bad ass phone. I am loving it.

Yep
Yep... And this is the first phone I tried to go without Titanium Backup... How do people live like this?!?! Lol... I guess we'll see.... What I'd like to see is the manufacturers just do stuff like that on their own.....
Samsung, the creators of multi-window, have a restrictive list too. I never bypassed it though. Kind of annoying. They've had it for years too.
But...umm..you can add any app you want to dual window without root

Hooooly crap that's alot of work to have something as simple as dual window support. What happens when the app updates? Does that change anything?
Again this just goes back to manufacturers just taking care of their customer base. This should be a non-issue.... Maybe I'll fool around with this at some point but honestly just rooting will probably be easier and provide more overall benefits once it is accomplished (which I would imagine would be sooner rather than later.) I'm always willing to donate for developers hard work. Definitely worth it.
Thanks for sharing this friend!
It's not as bad as it looks tbh. Once you become familiar it's a fairly quick process.

I've used this on a few apps and it works great. Took a little bit of time to figure it out the first app (I have zero experience with this type of thing), but after that it went pretty quick.
I just verified it with some apps I edited for my G3 that it works fine on the fancy new V10.

Maybe I will give it a try. It seems intimidating but perhaps it's not. What happens if an app updates via the Play store? Does it overwrite your changes?

Hah, I've got no idea honestly. That reddit thread that was posted isn't too old; I haven't had any of the apps I messed with updated yet.
Hi,everybody .I try to sign FM Cube to dual window and it is work great but when I try to do the same with Waze it show me error when I try to build apk back.
Can anybody help me with that ? And also I did a Google Map but can not install on my phone because the original one is a system app.
