Hi. After months of searching and no luck I finally found what caused my battery drain. I had strong overheating near the camera so I decided to search a bit on that. Turned out MicroSD problem. I had ~20.000 files on it (and search indexing was doing all this crap). People reported overheating gone after removing the SD. I deleted the files and voila - no more overheating and drain for me. Its back to the normal battery life when I bought it. It used to drain 5% every 10 minutes before. Many of you probably know this but I thought it may help someone.
Hmm.. What size sd did you have installed? What's your rig? What manufacturer, sd?
I have experienced the over heating as well.. Right underneath the camera lens. And yes, more noticeable when playing games.. (that possibly have data stored on sd)
Note 3, rooted, stock ROM
Galaxy gear 1, rooted, null_rom, stock launcher
.werd.
Yes, that happens. It's been mentioned in the quite numerous battery threads around here repeatedly.
- You may have one or more corrupt files. Hook the card up to a computer (via a cardreader or slot) and do a global search for 0kb files on it. Delete all 0kb media files (ignore the playlists and .nomedia.)
- Drop a .nomedia file in every folder you don't need to see in your gallery, Stock video or Stock musicplayer. This tells mediascanner to skip that folder. It applies to all subfolders as well, so dropping one in your ebook folder is enough to exclude all folders within that folder. (so anything containing stored maps, documents, textfiles, apks, appfiles (you can safely srop one in the Android folder, if Android hasn't already done so.), books, etc canbe safely excluded. If you find you need the folder shown somewhere after all, just delete the file.)
You can copy the ones already existing in several folders on the phone (Android creates them.). May need to enable hidden files first.
For instance, I have one folder containing a total of 24.238 files in 1.439 folders. These are all saved websites for documentation when I don't have internet access. Before I dropped a .nomedia file in my 'Websites' folder, my battery drained within a mere few hours, and the phone always ran hot. Dropped a .nomedia file in there, problem solved. Indexingservice skips the folder entirely, and I can access it via the filemanager (ES in my case, but stock works too.)
The Stock players rely on the Indexingservice. If you use an alternative music player, you can also add one to your music library. (Keep in mind this might disable the album arts. On N7 it works fine, haven't tested the rest.) Quickpic can be set to show folders hidden by a .nomedia file.
Videoplayers use Indexingservice, so adding a .nomedia file to the video folders excludes them from the videoplayers. You can still launch the video from your filemanager though. No issue there.
Oh, and ringtones, alarms and notifications require indexingservice, so don't add a nomedia file there.
worked for me

Helped me, so I thank you. Almost pulled my hair out, battery was halved for a few months and tried numerous things to rectify to no avail.Pulled memory card out last night, and I just got ten percent drain with screen constantly on for an hour straight!
Oh well, don't try calling Samsung support for a new battery. They had me waiting for 3 weeks when they told me they'd send one out, only when I rang them the fifth time a manager said that's not what they do and told me he would do nothing to rectify their mistake while being a complete a$$ to me.
Cheers for the heads up anyway buddy, appreciate it :good::good:
So what's the point of having a SDcard shot :s.. There is so much brag about it on all review sites, claiming that having a card slot is a plus.

There's plenty of advantages. And just like everything with Android, it needs proper managing. If you want a use-and-don't-think phone, buy an iPhone.
A large point is that I actually have something to watch and listen to and read during my 7.5 hour daily commute of which 5 hours are a zone where I have no mobile signal whatsoever (or G, if I'm very lucky.) Renders a cloud or streaming service rather useless, wouldn't you say? And I shall not even bother to explain to you the concept of borders and roaming charges.
Not to mention that if my phone dies, at least all my personal data is safely stored where I can get to it.
I've listed exactly what to do to prevent this issue in my post a few posts up. It's a simply copy-paste approach that takes about a minute in total.
Or do you complain about the pointlessness of TV's, too? Seeing as how you need to spend a minute connecting it and selecting the proper channels upon purchase....
My brand was Samsung 32GB, I believe Class 6 or 8. Rom always stock and rooted. I always ignored the fact that it may be SD problem. I'm so relieved this problem is gone. Strong overheating where I can't touch it was existing almost every time even on simple youtube videos watching. I never had this issue with my previous devices. Just try unplugging the SD card for few days and drain/charge battery and see for yourself. If it works then great.

Relax. No need to shout and cry. Don't be insecure about your phone. Did you see me talking about iPhone? Or have you ever seen an iPhone user firing at another iPhone user and asking him to go-buy-an-android if he needs clarification about anything? No. They ain't that insecure like many of the android users we have. Case in point, as seen above.
Moreover, I cannot comment on your TV comment since I don't watch TV much. I prefer YouTubing
yes this is true...I had been facing this issue since the days of Galaxy S2, only solution is to not use the sdcard...formatting the card works but only for a few days, or until the time you start filling it up...creating a .nomedia file in every directory doesn't seem to work for me!
anybody else got it to work?

I'm not quite sure how you got insecure from that.... I own 5 smartphones, I happily use my Note 3 without a shred of doubt every day. And if I was insecure about Android/Samsung, I wouldn't be working for them to help others fix and get the most out of their device.
(Also, maybe men feel the need to be insecure about something they own and see as a reflection of themselves (it seems to be a reoccuring theme with that gender), but I'm not a bloke. I don't see my phone as the metaphorical representation of a phallus I do not have.)
Kindly stop projecting your own feelings onto my comments.
Youtube is utterly useless when it comes to TV shows though. (Admittedly, so is telly these days)

By poking your nose in and suggesting to buy an iPhone, I can clearly see how secure are you with your device. You wanna fix something? Fix yourself dear. That will help you in long run.
And by the way, sorry to burst your little harlequin romance bubble with you "TV". There is more to the world than an iPhone or a TV. So stop BS-ing. Think you don't want a phone.. You want a life. So why not get one?!!

No, it won't. The Media Scanner is Android, Not Touchwiz.
You need to tell it where not to search. It's that simple.
Hi all,
I too have spent weeks looking for a solution.
I froze Sfinder with Titanium and now my Galaxy is OK!

Have my Xoom WiFi pre-ordered and delivery is supposed to be next week. I am coming from a Viewsonic G-Tablet (will still have two of them, just I won't be using) where the ONLY way to make use of them is by rooting and installing a third-party ROM.
With the Xoom, it seems like rooting it is more of an intellectual exercise than something that would make a big difference in day to day use. Is there something I'm missing?

Given Google's announcement about the HC stuff not being released anytime soon, I wouldn't be holding my breath on that.
So basically, the same reasons I might want to do it on my Nexus One. But it's not like the G-Tablet where I'm going to go from hardly acceptable to Notebook replacement is what I'm hearing.

I use dolphin so i delete it from all my devices Don't need programs that i don't use taking up space i need.
I don't recommend deleting the stock browser, and here is why;
I have a rooted Droid running UD 7.0. It's set up with Sweeter Home, etc, just the way I like it.
When Google Gesture Search came out, I spent days trying to figure out why I couldn't get it to work. I found out by trial & error (and a LOT of restoring ROMs!) that it was because I had deleted the stock browser in favor of Dolphin.
-Prob'ly nuttin, but because of all the unknowns, I expect I'll keep the stock basics until I can do a systematic, controlled delete. Just my 2 sense, err, cents.

Agreed.
Not to mention its worth it for the overclock alone. I have not noticed a change in battery life, and in terms of heat the dual core runs around 90 tops under heavy use.
These threads are useless, this Guy has a rooted device and knows what functions root already does. Why is he asking us what we will do with it when he already knows. Someone says removed crapware, then he gives an argument. Someone says overclock or custom then he gives another argument. C'mon man you already know what root brings, just determine if you need it or not because everyone's needs and wants are different.

Just to clarify, I have a couple of rooted Viewsonic G-Tablets. I haven't rooted my Xoom yet because:
A) I haven't got it yet (3/29 according to UPS)
B) It looks like it's a more complicated procedure at this point since there isn't native SD Card support
So I was trying to decide whether rooting was necessary (which it very much is on the G-Tablets), or just something desirable. And in the latter case, if there's something that would let me do that I would really miss.
At this point it sounds like there are three things I give up by not rooting, and the only one of those I don't have an acceptable workaround for is the overclocking. But I didn't want to hijack my own thread by starting a discussion on that, and so have been following the thread about OC instead.
FWIW...
Only reason I rooted my xoom was for the ability to play movies stutter free directly from my net shares...other than that no other reason...doesn't need to be overclocked and not really in to the custom rom game.

What player are you using? I assume you needed the CIFS support for this?
yes Cifs from the market. Using rockplayer until vplayer releases support for the Xoom.
I had a Viewsonic on Saturday (returning it monday) and i tried all the custom roms, but the main issue is the terrible display, i found not only do you need hold it in front of you, it still wasnt perfect until you held it on a weird angle. Even for 339.00 it's not worth it. I liked the USB port on it but it's ready to go back to the store tommorow. The Xoom screen is much much better (I had them both next to each other all day trying to justify). Heck, i might bring both back and just keep my Nook Color.. Time will tell... Battery life with the Tiamat kernal was about 9 hours but i started it at 72%.

I am having the same thoughts myself.
I jailbroke all my iphones, I've rooted all my android devices, but, for some reason, I am not anxious to root the xoom
I think once sd card support comes, and, when there are MORE rom/kernel choices, it might be more desirable to do it.
for trouble free viewing of hd videos, just rip with handbrake, or a similar program and watch them with Vital player..

U do know that is system space and you cant access it, right? thats not good and can cause the system to become unstable. Its space you will never see or be able to use so leave it. Get an app that hides apps from your tray and your problem solved ina safe manner..but hey, to each his own.

I couldnt agree more. I use handbrake for ripping also and I also don't see any current use in rooting a Xoom. Movies play crystal clear..Battery life is 9hours..
I just think some people are never satisfied..lol..like we're spoiled brats.
Im interested in the process but people are tweaking and reaching like this beast of a tablet isnt dual core and on the lastest version of android.
This is a Xoom and not a G1..lol...Not yelling..just made a point that we are never content until we brake some ****.
Google doesnt want the OEM using and skinning their **** anymore..atleast without that licensing/kiss our Google, rich ass Fee..so they probably wont release Honeycomb until 2012 I hear anyway.

hi all
after waiting of six month when arrived to Iraq ,and i bought Nexus S I9023 with 500 $ , after 4 days iam very disappointed because:
1.rooting and recovery very difficult .
2.there is no Radio
3.there is no Zoom in camera.
4.will damage and not work with two different ROM ,this problem i didnt get it with my old DEsire.
5.Internal Storage , so there is no SDcard thats a bit problem.
there is solution to these problem?
now planning to get HTC Desire HD .
are also diissapointed?
thanks.
1. No it's not, it's easy
2. Can't do a lot about that, a dev might figure it out though
3. Digital zoom is turd and shouldn't exist anyway
4. Pardon?
5. Yes that was a poor decision

but i am very sad about arabic language
My friend has a Desire HD and he is lucky if his battery lasts the whole day with wifi, gps and sync turned off. With my nexus s I can easily make it through two days with light use.
The rooting/custom recovery/custom rom process should be the easiest among all android devices since it is a pure google phone meant for developers.
oh man its a devphone why a dev want fm and rooting is easy as pie! fastboot oem unlock & fastboot flash recovery Name.img
what is the difficult?
zoom on camera is silly, you can make a photo and "zoom" in gallery.. same quality as digital zoom
maybe you flashed the roms false? not the devs fault ;D

Err, no. The thing's wide open, you don't even need any exploit code. Care to share your difficulties?
True, but you knew that beforehand (and who knows, maybe the FM radio that's inside it can be brought to life).
Where would you put a zoom lens? Not enough space. "Zooming" in software just lowers the image quality. You can do the same in post-processing by cropping to an area and enlarging that.
Sorry, I didn't quite understand that sentence.
As a matter of fact I agree with you but again, you knew that before you bought it.
1. You rooted a Desire (and s-offed maybe?) and you're saying that nexus s is hard to root? Jesus Christ people what's wrong with you?
2. Who listens to FM radio nowadays? We're in 2011, move on.
3. Why? To reduce quality? Kick ass feature indeed, you can zoom in gallery anyway.
4. Not our problem you can't read ROM descriptions. Besides, the two phone models were already splitted in to 2 different forums.
5. I'm still trying to figure it out why people need more then ~10gb of storage on a phone. Even with 1000 mp3s and a few movies, plus sd card files for certain HD games, you'd still have enough with the 16gb memory.
Instead of crying because of these non sense "dissapointments", you should wine about the laggy browser or about the fact that we only actually have 300mb RAM (since 200 are used for the GPU).

2. I do, because streaming local radio stations over the internet is generally wasteful (all that tech, just to listen to radio), doesn't work right (mobile internet just isn't reliable enough), is expensive (my data allowance is large but streaming radio will eat it like that) and drains the battery.
5. I don't need more storage but I'd like to be able to physically remove most of my personal data from the phone, to back it up or even just stick it in the next model. Even if I drop my phone and it's toast a microSD card could probably be salvaged. Built-in storage also takes away choice: How much storage do I need? How fast does it need to be? And lastly, cards can be re-used in a lot of different devices, which I prefer over buying new storage for every one.

while you might have a point for the radio thing, i kind of disagree with the storage thing. the purpose of storage is not to store your important data. you should in fact never do that. What if you lose your phone or it gets stolen?
I think this is the tech era evolving and that you have choices like google docs, dropbox, picasa.... for storage which is easily accesible (even through your computer at home) and safer.
only complaints i have are battery life(decent), icon looks garbage (thank god for customizable icons but still a hassle...wish the market made a standard for a xxx amount of pixel/size for icons or something. more continuity with the icons) and RAM....the ram is just not enough. /sigh
not really disappointed as i give this phone a 8.5/10 and i was a previous iphone 4 user.

1. Rooting & Recovery is not difficult at all. It's one of the most simpliest. One-clicks do not count. This phone is one of the few phones that permit unlocking the bootloader. Other phones' (with the exception of the N1) unlock their bootloader by using Android exploits.
2. There is a radio. Every phone has a radio including a flip phone.
3. All zooms in phones are not real "zooms." Real zooms consist of physical zoom.
4. ROMs doesn't damage your phone. It's because of something you did wrong.
5. If SDCard was such a problem, why did you get the phone in the first place? You should of done your research before buying the phone.
The only thing I'm disappointed with is the fact that they go ahead and release a 4G model a couple months later.

Im not disappointed generally
the only thing i dont like is the lack of Sim Toolkit coz i cant access my SImcard's menu like banking and all, plus Google removed FB sync for Nexus S. and the compass screws up a lot too, which is impt for me when using maps coz I drive a lot.
but i can live without the sim toolkit and the fb sync... its the compass that bothers me.

Important, hm, not that important mostly, just a hassle to re-create. And I do use it to transport data between home and work ... let's settle for sometimes important data . If I had important data on there I'd certainly not upload it into some cloud. Also sometimes it isn't practical. Store my music and videos in the cloud, whoever thought of that. So it can skip and eat up bandwidth?

This is a forum with a very international user base, which is great. I've seen flags here that I didn't know existed. Why do so many Americans still assume every one else is from there, too?
Anyway, I'm in Austria and pay €4 / GB. Even if it wasn't limited it still shouldn't be wasted. Wireless bandwidth is scarce no matter what you do.
thanks for all our posts.
i Cant answer all posts but :
1. there is no radio but mr.zephiK said there is , u can tell where to get it?
2. r u in same ?? u say yes there is zoom in but u have to zoom it from gallery , so all phones should remove zoom button , this company pay alot of money to have good lens for zoom in .
3. Mr. Rusty doesnt need pardon i tried modaco and cyaogen mod ROM but they will damage some times.
thanks .
Before anyone gets angry....
I tried searching "cancel update", "cancel postpone update", and a couple other combinations - still can't find the thread I'm looking for.
I remember reading that there is a way to cancel updates that have already been pushed to the device. After reading the reviews of 3.2 - I think I'll hold off for now... but the only option I have is to postpone (2 more times).
Can anyone shed light on how to permanently stop the update?
Thanks!

It won't automatically update and install! you will get a notification (in your notification bar ) that an update is available, it will ask you if you want to install the update, just click no.

Who told you this nonsense ? I am on 3.2 right now and wifi works exactly like on PRIME 1.6 (3.1 based)
Only issue I've had after 3.2 is Dice Player not loading, but think that's fixed now haven't found the new ver yet, so dunno what peeps are complaining about.
3.2 works great. It's definitely better than 3.1. I dont see a reason not to update unless your tab is rooted.
Does it fix everything people here wanted? Definitely no.
When you get your hope too high, you are going to be disappointed.
A lot of people here act like spoiled whinning kids .
They have no clue about how much work required to debug, program and test it.
They just want everything to be fixed in days. This happens to 3rd party developers as well and that's why they dont feel like their work being appreciated.
Seriously, enjoy what you have.

A lot of people here also preach about things, ignorantly making the assumption they know what others want.
Enjoying what I have is exactly what I want to do. I use remote connect to my PC all the time - and the new "circle" mouse pointer is a deal breaker for me. I'd simply like to stick with the pointer I have now.
As for the option to say "no" to the update... when is that given? My wife tells me "hey your computer told me to update" (awesome)... so now all I have is the "update" or "postpone" prompt. Will I still get the option?
Thanks!
You can allways try to freeze the DMClient app. Stopped me from getting the update.

I have not noticed any new issues with 3.2. My wifi & gps still work. In fact one problem seems to have gone away for the time being. That was having to push the power button multiple for my transformer to wake up.
Th default browser still suck with the lag & crashes.

I'm having at least:
- wi-fi problems (connection drops every couple of minutes, major speed decrease)
- browser window refreshing/redrawing much slower
Btw, for the wi-fi a possible temporary solutions is to set the connection to static as opposed to DHCP (the connection drops seem to be connected to DHCP). Also, take a look at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=16169854&postcount=32

Sorry I quoted the wrong person in my last post. Opera is really starting to piss me off. I tried editing my post 4 time and Once I hit save my text would disappear.
Would you mind elaborating on the inability to write to SD? I am on 3.2 and I can write to SD so you have me curious
-Dan
I don't know if there are other meanings of "write to SD" but I ugraded to 3.2 about 20 mins ago and I just created a ".doc" file with Polaris Office and saved directly to my external SD. I also created and deleted a folder from the stock file manager...
WOW, some people are so easilly swayed by what they read on the internet...
Clearly a site like XDA attracts people with problems and people that like to moan, the million other Asus Transformer owners that are perfectly happy don't count?
Get some perspective...
question: Can i disable the notification that comes up all the time asking me if i want to update?

At least they would tell you if that sector has been overwritten or not.

[GUIDE] Internal Memory Data Recovery - Yes We Can!
sent from my HAMMERHEAD neXus
The first thing to do would be to STOP USING THE PHONE. The more you use it, the higher the chance of the data being overwritten and thus unrecoverable. Remember, "deleting" something only marks it as available on the disk/flash memory.
http://www.icare-recovery.com/free/android-data-recovery-freeware.html
As above, if you carry on using the phone there's a chance you might write over the deleted file, any chance of recovery then becomes much more difficult, maybe even impossible. Try some of the software that's been mentioned above, if the files not been overwritten you should have a good chance of recovery.

correct as the past few posts say if you havnt overwritten that area of your internal storage where the video was saved you should no problem using some recovery tools to get the deleted information. I work as a security analyst doing forensics and e-discovery. I recommend the program r-studio to recovery deleted information. you will have to pay for it unless you can find a free copy on the internet.. lol but you can also get a trial of it which will let you recovery files smaller than like 1mb which might not help you but you can at least use the trial to determine if the video is recoverable.
You can also use diskdigger. The free version should do what you need it to

Thank all of you for your help. I tried several tools, with varying results.
Sadly I can't seem to get anything watchable back. I got a couple of bruises and my jaw still kinda hurts, but it's nothing permanent.
I got an app that can undo removal of photos and videos for the next time something like this happens, also I should be more carefull not to put myself in harms way again. People are unpredictable.

I have not. And I know who the hacker is. She is the mother of my kids and is about to loose custody of our 3 kids to me. She is also a bit coin miner that hijacks devices to do her dirty work. She is very experienced and I know this for a fact. It's her job. I just need to know how to SSH into the memory that she put the script in.

She has been scamming me and harassing me for 9 months. Trying to get me to click on a fabricated email with script embedded. She finally got her way. Took her almost 8 months the of trying.
I most definitely have never installed any remote desktop server or clients but I know she has. I have found them and Uninstalled. Numerous times. She has been deleting recovery emails and adding saved passwords all day. And that's just today.
If she's such a pro, bring it to a real geek professional than relying on advice from forum. She might have copied it to some partitions which are not formatted by default.

Great. Here we go. She is now back on. Messing with this forum for me. I doubt you all can see it but she is doubling up messages and moving my screen around. Crap. Oh well. If you want to email me. It's [email protected]
I did 20 to 25 full erase factory resets in a row. Still was back after the last one. I have 2 other phones she is in and 3 laptops as well.
how can you say so, plz send some screenshot. I dont think she did anything ...
I'm not exactly sure what you would like to see for a screen shot. I am running on a drive that is obviously emulated on my screen and supposedly I have 43 sensors on a fold 2. Maybe that's counting all the drivers for the sensors on my phone to connect to her phone along with all the sensors on her device. I know for a fact that at one point she had my OS running on an s21. She told me I wouldn't be able to prove it. I'm too stubborn to give up. Lol. Here is 2 screen shots. One is my hard disks and the other is my 42 sensors.

Yup. Sure thing. Whatever you say. It's very much real. It's actually very crazy. No one on here has offered me any real input. I'm not making this up. It is very much real. And although it is extremely difficult to do it is possible. Especially for someone that can program on the run and has professional and commercial experience. It's all good.
I'm not sure how she would manage to get on a burner phone too. I'm pretty sure it's possible to hack into a router & infect devices connected to it if you're using the same wifi network. You could try getting a new router & a new burner phone & don't connect any other devices you may have to the new router in case they're infected. And don't open emails from addresses you don't recognize. I would suggest going to geek squad or something like that rather than a forum though.
Ando do a malware scan on any other devices you have if possible. If you have another way to connect those devices to internet like tethering, you could try Trend Micro housecall. It's a free online malware scanner.

How do you know you're being hacked?
Tough to take this seriously and as fact.
But if you are, why haven't you gone to the authorities?
First of all this is fold 3 section not fold 2.
Secondly leave the phone to local police and tell them your wife or gf is hacking into your phone and let specialist att police go through your phone and if they find it's true they will grab evidence out of the phone and then arrest her for suspicious of hacking and they will use evidence when interviewing her and asking her that they found traces of her hacking the person's phone and such. Not last but least if higher up person decides to is do house warrant at her home so they will go home to her take all of her computer stuff including tablets and phones as part of investigation and they will check through all of them.
If you keep reseting your phone you are getting rid of all evidence from her and she will have lower chance of being sued in court and sentenced to jail for her criminal behaviour.
These sensors comes from your hardware nothing she's doing lmaoz. All smart phones have these sensors
