Cancel 3.2 Update? - Eee Pad Transformer Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Before anyone gets angry....
I tried searching "cancel update", "cancel postpone update", and a couple other combinations - still can't find the thread I'm looking for.
I remember reading that there is a way to cancel updates that have already been pushed to the device. After reading the reviews of 3.2 - I think I'll hold off for now... but the only option I have is to postpone (2 more times).
Can anyone shed light on how to permanently stop the update?
Thanks!

It won't automatically update and install! you will get a notification (in your notification bar ) that an update is available, it will ask you if you want to install the update, just click no.
After reading all the posts on here i'm definately not installing it.

Who told you this nonsense ? I am on 3.2 right now and wifi works exactly like on PRIME 1.6 (3.1 based)

Only issue I've had after 3.2 is Dice Player not loading, but think that's fixed now haven't found the new ver yet, so dunno what peeps are complaining about.

3.2 works great. It's definitely better than 3.1. I dont see a reason not to update unless your tab is rooted.
Does it fix everything people here wanted? Definitely no.
When you get your hope too high, you are going to be disappointed.
A lot of people here act like spoiled whinning kids .
They have no clue about how much work required to debug, program and test it.
They just want everything to be fixed in days. This happens to 3rd party developers as well and that's why they dont feel like their work being appreciated.
Seriously, enjoy what you have.

I'm interested in updating also but there are so many threads with problems.
Wifi problems
Compass not calibrating
Browser loading slower and hanging around 90% page loaded
Keyboard lag maybe worse
Do u have any of these problems?

im sticking with custom roms because i do NOT like the way 3.2 denies you the ability to right to SD cards, or any removable media. At least give us an option, assholes.

A lot of people here also preach about things, ignorantly making the assumption they know what others want.
Enjoying what I have is exactly what I want to do. I use remote connect to my PC all the time - and the new "circle" mouse pointer is a deal breaker for me. I'd simply like to stick with the pointer I have now.
As for the option to say "no" to the update... when is that given? My wife tells me "hey your computer told me to update" (awesome)... so now all I have is the "update" or "postpone" prompt. Will I still get the option?
Thanks!

You can allways try to freeze the DMClient app. Stopped me from getting the update.

I have not noticed any new issues with 3.2. My wifi & gps still work. In fact one problem seems to have gone away for the time being. That was having to push the power button multiple for my transformer to wake up.
Th default browser still suck with the lag & crashes.

I'm having at least:
- wi-fi problems (connection drops every couple of minutes, major speed decrease)
- browser window refreshing/redrawing much slower
Btw, for the wi-fi a possible temporary solutions is to set the connection to static as opposed to DHCP (the connection drops seem to be connected to DHCP). Also, take a look at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=16169854&postcount=32

It does give you the option to or not to update.

Sorry I quoted the wrong person in my last post. Opera is really starting to piss me off. I tried editing my post 4 time and Once I hit save my text would disappear.

Would you mind elaborating on the inability to write to SD? I am on 3.2 and I can write to SD so you have me curious
-Dan

I don't know if there are other meanings of "write to SD" but I ugraded to 3.2 about 20 mins ago and I just created a ".doc" file with Polaris Office and saved directly to my external SD. I also created and deleted a folder from the stock file manager...

WOW, some people are so easilly swayed by what they read on the internet...
Clearly a site like XDA attracts people with problems and people that like to moan, the million other Asus Transformer owners that are perfectly happy don't count?
Get some perspective...

question: Can i disable the notification that comes up all the time asking me if i want to update?

[Q] Is there a reason to Root a Xoom?

Have my Xoom WiFi pre-ordered and delivery is supposed to be next week. I am coming from a Viewsonic G-Tablet (will still have two of them, just I won't be using) where the ONLY way to make use of them is by rooting and installing a third-party ROM.
With the Xoom, it seems like rooting it is more of an intellectual exercise than something that would make a big difference in day to day use. Is there something I'm missing?

Given Google's announcement about the HC stuff not being released anytime soon, I wouldn't be holding my breath on that.
So basically, the same reasons I might want to do it on my Nexus One. But it's not like the G-Tablet where I'm going to go from hardly acceptable to Notebook replacement is what I'm hearing.

I use dolphin so i delete it from all my devices Don't need programs that i don't use taking up space i need.
I don't recommend deleting the stock browser, and here is why;
I have a rooted Droid running UD 7.0. It's set up with Sweeter Home, etc, just the way I like it.
When Google Gesture Search came out, I spent days trying to figure out why I couldn't get it to work. I found out by trial & error (and a LOT of restoring ROMs!) that it was because I had deleted the stock browser in favor of Dolphin.
-Prob'ly nuttin, but because of all the unknowns, I expect I'll keep the stock basics until I can do a systematic, controlled delete. Just my 2 sense, err, cents.

Agreed.
Not to mention its worth it for the overclock alone. I have not noticed a change in battery life, and in terms of heat the dual core runs around 90 tops under heavy use.
These threads are useless, this Guy has a rooted device and knows what functions root already does. Why is he asking us what we will do with it when he already knows. Someone says removed crapware, then he gives an argument. Someone says overclock or custom then he gives another argument. C'mon man you already know what root brings, just determine if you need it or not because everyone's needs and wants are different.

Just to clarify, I have a couple of rooted Viewsonic G-Tablets. I haven't rooted my Xoom yet because:
A) I haven't got it yet (3/29 according to UPS)
B) It looks like it's a more complicated procedure at this point since there isn't native SD Card support
So I was trying to decide whether rooting was necessary (which it very much is on the G-Tablets), or just something desirable. And in the latter case, if there's something that would let me do that I would really miss.
At this point it sounds like there are three things I give up by not rooting, and the only one of those I don't have an acceptable workaround for is the overclocking. But I didn't want to hijack my own thread by starting a discussion on that, and so have been following the thread about OC instead.
FWIW...
Only reason I rooted my xoom was for the ability to play movies stutter free directly from my net shares...other than that no other reason...doesn't need to be overclocked and not really in to the custom rom game.

What player are you using? I assume you needed the CIFS support for this?
yes Cifs from the market. Using rockplayer until vplayer releases support for the Xoom.
I had a Viewsonic on Saturday (returning it monday) and i tried all the custom roms, but the main issue is the terrible display, i found not only do you need hold it in front of you, it still wasnt perfect until you held it on a weird angle. Even for 339.00 it's not worth it. I liked the USB port on it but it's ready to go back to the store tommorow. The Xoom screen is much much better (I had them both next to each other all day trying to justify). Heck, i might bring both back and just keep my Nook Color.. Time will tell... Battery life with the Tiamat kernal was about 9 hours but i started it at 72%.

I am having the same thoughts myself.
I jailbroke all my iphones, I've rooted all my android devices, but, for some reason, I am not anxious to root the xoom
I think once sd card support comes, and, when there are MORE rom/kernel choices, it might be more desirable to do it.
for trouble free viewing of hd videos, just rip with handbrake, or a similar program and watch them with Vital player..

U do know that is system space and you cant access it, right? thats not good and can cause the system to become unstable. Its space you will never see or be able to use so leave it. Get an app that hides apps from your tray and your problem solved ina safe manner..but hey, to each his own.

I couldnt agree more. I use handbrake for ripping also and I also don't see any current use in rooting a Xoom. Movies play crystal clear..Battery life is 9hours..
I just think some people are never satisfied..lol..like we're spoiled brats.
Im interested in the process but people are tweaking and reaching like this beast of a tablet isnt dual core and on the lastest version of android.
This is a Xoom and not a G1..lol...Not yelling..just made a point that we are never content until we brake some ****.
Google doesnt want the OEM using and skinning their **** anymore..atleast without that licensing/kiss our Google, rich ass Fee..so they probably wont release Honeycomb until 2012 I hear anyway.

Unexpected reboots

So it seems I'm getting more and more of these nowadays. At first I thought it might be Battery HD, which I removed, as I didn't remember installing anything else lately which might be running, but today at the very moment I removed the tablet from the dock, it just rebooted (almost) instantly. Wonder if more of you experience this.
I was getting these on the stock launcher yesterday and I'm getting it today while on Nova.
I would really love this unlocking tool right now..
i got mines on thursday and have not had one reboot.

If you expect the unexpected, is there truly a thing as an unexpected reboot?
Well, certainly wasn't expecting it to constantly reboot on undocking, so I guess the pun doesn't work in this case.

I am not a power user by any means, and I can confirm that the machine rebooted a couple of times while watching 720p videos.
Is there a CPU usage/temperature log somewhere on android? That could help track down the origin of these nasty reboots and file complaints to ASUS.

You can find numerous apps for CPU monitoring in the playstore, but I haven't found one for monitoring CPU temperature (only battery temperature)

I've had at least 2-3 random reboots in the last 4 days. Once it happened while loading up the Facebook app. Another time it happened while browsing the web with the stock browser. Both times the screen when white and had a thin black line down the side, then after 15s the boot screen appeared with the Asus logo.
So far most everything has been working and I've been happy with the Infinity. But having a number of random reboots in a single week and not being able to get an uptime over 2 days is a fairly major problem for me. Note that it is not rooted or tweaked in any way.

I have them as well, and while I would like them to pack up and leave, I concur with the OP that it is not a deal breaker of any sort.
I can't remember having them on ICS -- would this be a JB thing?
Only happens to me very rarely, only when browsing, once or twice a day at most. Never in games, films, music or documents...
Working on it?-- That implies that they still care about us. They don't. I have almost 50 of these that I support, all have the issue and even after working with Tien and Gary to get a resolution.... they have given me absolutely nothing as far as support goes.
They have suggested cold boots and factory resets... that is all. And NO, those actions fix NOTHING.
Tien... you even abandoned my support call..
Last communication that I had with him was this on 11/7:
Hi Jordan,
Sorry for the late reply, but I just wanted to inform you that we have passed all this information back to HQ so they can test and figure out a solution. I am confident, with all the material we've supplied, that they can duplicate and figure something out. I just want to thank you for sticking through this. Hopefully the new firmware update will address all these issues.

Tien,
I am assuming by now that you or your company has been able to reproduce the graphics issues, reboots and issues that have been happening with the TF700. If you are having trouble with that, there are large groups of users getting these problems, documented here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1811538&page=14
Please let me know what asus plans to do to resolve these issues. Again, these are company machines that are relied on everyday as a primary work space for some. Please email me asap to let me know a time frame that I can expect some sort of resolution.

From time to time, a black horizontal line flashes across the screen, usually in the upper third (at least when I noticed), seems to be random. Looks like a GPU driver issue (maybe NVidia's fault?) because it appeared first with the JB updates.

Yep, correction on my earlier report of none after 23 update, thought I saw one last night, know I saw one this morning, no developers options ticked.
But frequency and duration greatly reduced....still needs more work though.
I concur with above poster, still not totally resolved
Definitely less than last update, but still there every once in a while.
Thanks for the improvement, but keep looking.

I'm pretty sure sbdags is applying his magic as we speak. He has a lot to go over, so give it a few days. I do hope the new update remedies it to a large extent, because they are annoying.
The remark of "no developer options ticked" seems to deny me the pleasure of disabling 2D GPU GUI rendering and seeing them leave automagically. I had that idea yesterday evening -- well, I'm going to try anyway. (If it should somehow work out, that'd be a strong lead to suspect a driver issue. Damn you, NVIDIA! )
PS: are we all on CROMI? (Me: v2.7.2) I guess stock ROM is no different to all intents and purposes as far as the black line issue goes. Do any of the people in here that use AOSP/AOKP/CM10 have them too?
My Nexus 7 used to do this as well. I think it's a problem with the Tegra 3 while the wifi is being used. I haven't noticed it on my Nexus 7 since 4.2 though.

Interesting suggestion! I hadn't noticed anuyhthing partiucular in connection with the WiFi being on while the problem occurred. I am curious to see if I can ''fix'' this myself. Anoter workaround for an -- essentially -- hardware issue? (If you are correct, and that carries a rather high probablility, you'd suspect the Tegra3 to be susceptible to some kind of EMF reception and static build-up internally or something,. Ugh, another unsolvable issue to contend with. And still I like this device very much.

Slow when updating apps...

When I turn on my tablet and the wi-fi is on there are usually apps that need updating. When apps are downloading the tablet slows to a crawl. If I'm reading I can hardly turn the pages! If I swipe to turn a page it's like 10 seconds. Is there something specific to look at that would bring the tablet to it's knees when it's downloading anything over wi-fi? When wi-fi is off it's just fine as far as flipping around to different things but kinda useless to not have wi-fi on. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Are you still using stock Rom? Have you try any custom Roms yet? The slow I/O is the bottle neck for this issue...

Yes, stock everything. I had a feeling it was I/O because it's the worst during the download of the new app vs the actual installation of it. I know it's not the hardware limit because it never used to be this way before the last big update (months ago). Do others see the tablet lag so bad when downloading app updates?

Unfortunately, yes and most users using stock have this lag issue. Some have more than others... If you don't a lot of apps to install, you could try to do a factory reset and hope that it would help..
Also, you could try to clear all the memory from the apps or games that you don't use any more to give a little more reserved memory when you need them. You could also disable all the unused apps and games so you can reduce some cpu resource and memory during heavy usages..
Good luck..:fingers-crossed:
The easy solution is to disable auto-updating in the Play Store settings. I hate it anyway if my tools are doing stuff on their own schedule! I'm the boss here! I tell 'em when to update! LOL

Ya, I suppose that's probably the best thing to do since I didn't really want to go with a custom ROM. Then once in a while just turn it on and let it do all the updates. Strange how folks talk about how much better it is with a custom ROM. This implies that the problems are in software and can be fixed by software. Why doesn't Asus address these obvious problems? You'd think if something is so much better on their tablets, they would take a look at it and put the "fix" in their software.

You don't even have to turn it on. You still get notifications about updates waiting. They just don't install right away. Just go to the Play Store and hit 'Update All' - go have coffee. This has the added benefit that you can choose which apps to update. I'm still on the old Google Maps for example and will stay there until they bring "my Maps" back.
The speed and smoothness is a mix of software tweaks to deal with the slow memory of this tablet. The lag many users have is really due to cheap memory! I am currently running a really stripped down version of the Asus firmware called miniCromi-x on a fast class 10 SD card, and this thing flies! Best Quadrant score was 6900, most times I get between 6200 - 6500.

[Q] Galaxy Note Pro 12.2 - Very slow - Please help

Hey
I just won a Galaxy Note Pro 12.2 White 32gb last week, i've been playing around with it a bit and i've found that it is incredibly slow, slower than my ASUS Transformer TF300T. And i was expecting a monster of a machine with the specifications in the Note Pro.
There are delays in just navigating the menu, sliding down the menu thing from the top. Typing on the keyboard, i can write on word and keep writing and it freezes and then my last word pop up (sorry for bad explaining, hopefully you understand). Scrolling up and down on a website in Chrome, it can just freeze for a few secs. Opening some apps from me tapping the app to it opening can be delayed like 6-8 seconds or something. Also have slow problems when i'm using Perfect Viewer for reading comics, flipping a page can sometimes delay for seconds.
Never had any of these issues on my ASUS Transformers TF300T
Also have some issues with the pen when playing around in the Sketchbook Galaxy app, if i lift the pen away from the screen and then put it back, it doesnt identify the pen close to fast, it takes a long while.
I would be more pissed if i payed for it, still pretty bummed though even if i won it.
I will be super grateful for any help i can get
I made a video, but i cant link it here, maybe i can link it in a PM if somebody wants to help?
Hi, I have the same device and it screams, no delays at all...
What I have done from the start is install a new launcher, in my case Holo HD, to get rid of Touchwiz which supposedly consumes a lot of resources...
I suggest you give that a try...

No delays here either. All stock. Maybe something is downloading to cause that slowness. Look in upper left corner for moving arrows. If you see one moving then something is downloading and you can see what that is by swiping from the top of the screen.

Nothing downloading.
You may also want to try simply resetting it.

First thing i tried a few days ago, thanks though.
Also tried the Holo launcher, everything slow as hell still.
Anybody with any other tips? Irritating problems ;(
Sure you're on the latest firmware? You could try running cpu-z and check if the cpu's go up to 1.9 Ghz...

That all looks fine, just like mine....
Can't think of anything else, maybe you do have a hardware issue.
As a last resort you could perform a factory reset to see if that cures the responsiveness issues...

Oh, bummer. Already tried factory reset.
You could try re-flashing it, see if that makes a difference.

I'm not experienced with tablets/phones, what does re-flashing mean? And is there a guide for it you can link or something? Thanks
Bump
This guide should be all you need. http://forums.androidcentral.com/am...ide-samsung-how-flash-stock-rom-via-odin.html
You can download the firmware files at http://www.sammobile.com/firmware and enter SM-P900 in the search box. The file you want depends on your region. If from USA, then Cellular South is the one you want.
Please ask for assistance if you have more questions.

Should all the files be deleted after this re-flashing is done? If so, then i must have done it wrong, all my apps and everything is still there and it is still slow. I followed the guide and got the "PASS" in Odin.

Here's a video showing some of the slow issues i'm talking about
EDIT:
Has anyone heard of this problem with the Galaxy Note 12.2? Slow as f*** right out of the box? So infuriating
Seems like a collection of issues. First thing I'd do is get rid of the task killer application. IMO kit kat manages memory just fine. A better way to go is to use greenify to keep less frequently used applications hibernated so that frequently used ones will be cached. When I set up my devices after rooting I'll freeze things I'll never use and then I'll watch a system monitor application for things that load in the background. Anything that loads in the background that I don't want to use frequently (and don't need to keep alive for notifications) I'll consider for greenifying.
For the perfect viewer issue, where are the files? Is that memory latency? Kind of seems like it. Agree though, usually should run better than that.
I have to admit the first thing I thought was that perhaps you have a big SD card installed with a lot of media and the media server process is running and showing things down.
IMO in general out of the box these things are laggy but with some tweaks things improve a lot. The lag is subjective, some aren't bothered by it but for those of us who are it's a big nuisance.

The issues im having were present right out of the box, i installed the task killer to see if that would help, i dont have the task killer application anymore after i reset it again - still the same problems.
Is Android 4.4.2 the latest version available for Galaxy Note Pro 12.2?
Only other thing that could be the problem is hardware i suppose, but what kind of problem? that would make the device soooo slow.
You still need to do a factory reset after you reflash the stock rom with Odin.

I believe i did that, i'm gonna try later tonight to do the reflashing again and a factory reset immediatly after.
If your downloaded aps are still present after the factory reset, then it did not work
