Anyone else notice this?
For example. I'll open up chrome, go to a webpage, exit chrome, and then when I come back to chrome it starts reloading the page again. I've noticed it refreshes or restarts a ton of apps after I come back to them after a short amount of time and it never puts me where I last left off in the app. Even my two year old phones keep apps open longer.
What's up with this?

You have to setup your device properly then you have enough free ram for multitasking. Out of the box the system alone uses like 2gb+ of ram which is to much imo. Stock lollipop uses around ~500mb of ram. After all these years touchwiz is still a ramhog nr.1
Just some quick tips:
- use stock launcher from google or nova or other lightweight launchers
- deactivate facebook and messenger and almost every google app that you dont use
this alone will save you like 500mb ram alone. Everything else you'll find in the ram usage settings from there you can see what uses most ram and if you dont need it just deactivate or deinstall this ****.

Problem is that I did not have this problem on my Note 3(with lollipop 5,0) so why should I have it on the touchwiz "lite" on the S6? same RAM on both devices.

This issue is discussed in the other thread, but this one is appropriately named. The issue is driving me nuts, but I didn't find anyone else complaining until I saw this thread.
Bloat or no bloat, it's incomprehensible to me how you can't even have three apps running on a phone with 3 GB of ram. My OPO could easily have six or more apps running at the same time.
Well, my galaxy s6 is going back to T-Mobile. LG G4 here I come.
I don't think ram is the issue. I just checked: system is using 1.2gb of ram and apps using 400mb. I have over 1gb of free ram. That's a ton.

I really like the phone too, but I'm constantly down to about 200-400 MB of RAM although I've removed most of the bloat and I'm not running any weird apps that I haven't used on other phones in the past.
Not too keen on rooting cause of all the warranty issues either...sure hope you're right about them fixing it.
You're not supposed to have free RAM...
Android’s operating system has its own native handler for assigning RAM to apps and making sure that all of it is being used in the most optimal way. In fact, Android purposely tries to keep apps loaded into RAM for better performance. RAM is fast, remember? On mobile devices, every bit of speed is critical for a good user experience, so keeping apps in RAM is actually a good thing.

There definitely seems to be an issue with apps being closed too quickly but I don't think it has anything to do with the free RAM numbers you're looking at.
I wonder if there is anyway to submit something to samsung so they are aware of this issue. If this wasn't an issue, this phone would be nearly perfect.

Thanks, I know this. Doesn't change the fact that my OPO had about 600 MB more free RAM at any given moment and multitasked like a champ.
Hope they'll fix it soon.
Really don`t think it`s the issue with to low RAM, I belive this is a management issue or a bug thats just kills the apps to quickly or even maybe lollipop 5,0,2 issue that samsung missed? I sent samsung a mail about it yesterday so hopefully they will contact me back.
I'd be very interested to know whether someone who has rooted and changed the minfree settings still experience the issues described here.
Also, did you receive any response from Samsung, Johan?

Call Samsung customer support. I did for the flash remaining lit, and they weren't even aware of it. We need to be notifying Samsung of these issues, not our carriers.

Is not just through home pages, is the perfomance in general. In the stock email client I the lag is tremendous and I like the handwriting for inputs but I had to stop using because the lag.
That's very odd, I have no lag... In fact with the 2gb of ram it pretty much flies through everything I throw at it. Handwriting is the easiest way to put in info for me and I find there's no problem.
If there is a heap of lag, have you put any apps on that might have malware or be a virus because on the PC that's the 1st indication of a virus.
If you do the hard reset and find it works better then try 1 app at a time, especially if you sideload apps not from the playstore.
If there is still a heap of lag I'd return it especially as these are not cheap little toys...
Actually mine is very fast I manage to get the stock jelly bean on it and it is super fast right now. Try doing a factory restore and don't put so much widget

you can also try a task manager from the market
or don't use live wallpapers...
or try flashing a ROM if you're up to it...
Make sure power saving is not on. Thats most likely it.

What you're describing isn't typical. If it was people would be screaming bloody murder. Quite a few people have come from Teg3 tablets and have commented on an improvement in speed and fluidity and those tablets and the Note are the fastest Android tablets on the market right now.
- Did you buy the tablet new and did it perform the way you described before you loaded any of your own apps and settings on it?
- What model is it (8000, 8005, 8010, 8013) and are you using an SD card in it? If so, what kind of SD card and how is it formatted? If it's a 8000 or 8005 do you have a SIM in it and from what carrier?
- What region is it from and what's the current s/w build number? (Settings>about device)
- Have you tried restoring to the factory settings without loading any apps on it to see how it performs?
Here's a vid from a while ago showing mine doing a bunch of stuff. If yours isn't performing the same way something's wrong with it.

Are you using Exchange email account? I had the same problem till I re-installed this exch account and made syncing just for last month (not all over 10.000 emails like before).
Make sure u ain't using it while connected to wall charger or pc. I've noticed it lagging a lot in these two scenarios for some reason not known to me.
So did you ever get this resolved? I got my new sealed 32gb today and the email clients lag is horrible.also had terrible lag using browser and xda site. The video player is choppy. I have cleared the apps and even powered off and back on .I am very surprised it's this lag ridden.

It is very surprising. Mine has been lag free since day one.
All the responses to this thread have been on point. Try some of the tips, like make sure power saver mode is disabled, do a factory reset, make sure its not just one app doing that tto you, or maybe you have an email client trying to load 100,000 emails?
If you hold the home button, it brings out the ttask manager. Check ram usage and then clear the ram. See if that helps.
If none of that hhelps, try odining to stock firmware and if you still have lag after that, it is simply not a hardware issue and you should go get it replaced

Mine is Build IMM76D.N8010XWALG4 and a Monday Jul 30 kernel date. I have no lag whatsoever, though I don't use exchange sync, even with power saver on.

The only lag I see is when you switch between multi window which has been known since day one. It has about a one second delay when switching between windows in multi screen. Not a big deal to me but other wise its seems fine. And if your complaining about anything else you did in that video then I dont think you'll ever be happy cause it seems fine to me especially with all the widgets and apps you have on the home screen and how many processes you were running.
Well I think I have nailed it down the 2 things that makeitstart lagging.
1. Stock mail client
2. Browsing with the stock browser and viewing XDA.
also can anyone else confirm engaget.com is very choppy in scrolling?

When I turn on my tablet and the wi-fi is on there are usually apps that need updating. When apps are downloading the tablet slows to a crawl. If I'm reading I can hardly turn the pages! If I swipe to turn a page it's like 10 seconds. Is there something specific to look at that would bring the tablet to it's knees when it's downloading anything over wi-fi? When wi-fi is off it's just fine as far as flipping around to different things but kinda useless to not have wi-fi on. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Yes, stock everything. I had a feeling it was I/O because it's the worst during the download of the new app vs the actual installation of it. I know it's not the hardware limit because it never used to be this way before the last big update (months ago). Do others see the tablet lag so bad when downloading app updates?

Unfortunately, yes and most users using stock have this lag issue. Some have more than others... If you don't a lot of apps to install, you could try to do a factory reset and hope that it would help..
Also, you could try to clear all the memory from the apps or games that you don't use any more to give a little more reserved memory when you need them. You could also disable all the unused apps and games so you can reduce some cpu resource and memory during heavy usages..
Good luck..:fingers-crossed:
The easy solution is to disable auto-updating in the Play Store settings. I hate it anyway if my tools are doing stuff on their own schedule! I'm the boss here! I tell 'em when to update! LOL

Ya, I suppose that's probably the best thing to do since I didn't really want to go with a custom ROM. Then once in a while just turn it on and let it do all the updates. Strange how folks talk about how much better it is with a custom ROM. This implies that the problems are in software and can be fixed by software. Why doesn't Asus address these obvious problems? You'd think if something is so much better on their tablets, they would take a look at it and put the "fix" in their software.

You don't even have to turn it on. You still get notifications about updates waiting. They just don't install right away. Just go to the Play Store and hit 'Update All' - go have coffee. This has the added benefit that you can choose which apps to update. I'm still on the old Google Maps for example and will stay there until they bring "my Maps" back.
The speed and smoothness is a mix of software tweaks to deal with the slow memory of this tablet. The lag many users have is really due to cheap memory! I am currently running a really stripped down version of the Asus firmware called miniCromi-x on a fast class 10 SD card, and this thing flies! Best Quadrant score was 6900, most times I get between 6200 - 6500.

Hey
I just won a Galaxy Note Pro 12.2 White 32gb last week, i've been playing around with it a bit and i've found that it is incredibly slow, slower than my ASUS Transformer TF300T. And i was expecting a monster of a machine with the specifications in the Note Pro.
There are delays in just navigating the menu, sliding down the menu thing from the top. Typing on the keyboard, i can write on word and keep writing and it freezes and then my last word pop up (sorry for bad explaining, hopefully you understand). Scrolling up and down on a website in Chrome, it can just freeze for a few secs. Opening some apps from me tapping the app to it opening can be delayed like 6-8 seconds or something. Also have slow problems when i'm using Perfect Viewer for reading comics, flipping a page can sometimes delay for seconds.
Never had any of these issues on my ASUS Transformers TF300T
Also have some issues with the pen when playing around in the Sketchbook Galaxy app, if i lift the pen away from the screen and then put it back, it doesnt identify the pen close to fast, it takes a long while.
I would be more pissed if i payed for it, still pretty bummed though even if i won it.
I will be super grateful for any help i can get
I made a video, but i cant link it here, maybe i can link it in a PM if somebody wants to help?
Hi, I have the same device and it screams, no delays at all...

No delays here either. All stock. Maybe something is downloading to cause that slowness. Look in upper left corner for moving arrows. If you see one moving then something is downloading and you can see what that is by swiping from the top of the screen.

This guide should be all you need. http://forums.androidcentral.com/am...ide-samsung-how-flash-stock-rom-via-odin.html
You can download the firmware files at http://www.sammobile.com/firmware and enter SM-P900 in the search box. The file you want depends on your region. If from USA, then Cellular South is the one you want.
Please ask for assistance if you have more questions.

Should all the files be deleted after this re-flashing is done? If so, then i must have done it wrong, all my apps and everything is still there and it is still slow. I followed the guide and got the "PASS" in Odin.

Here's a video showing some of the slow issues i'm talking about
EDIT:
Has anyone heard of this problem with the Galaxy Note 12.2? Slow as f*** right out of the box? So infuriating
Seems like a collection of issues. First thing I'd do is get rid of the task killer application. IMO kit kat manages memory just fine. A better way to go is to use greenify to keep less frequently used applications hibernated so that frequently used ones will be cached. When I set up my devices after rooting I'll freeze things I'll never use and then I'll watch a system monitor application for things that load in the background. Anything that loads in the background that I don't want to use frequently (and don't need to keep alive for notifications) I'll consider for greenifying.
For the perfect viewer issue, where are the files? Is that memory latency? Kind of seems like it. Agree though, usually should run better than that.
I have to admit the first thing I thought was that perhaps you have a big SD card installed with a lot of media and the media server process is running and showing things down.
IMO in general out of the box these things are laggy but with some tweaks things improve a lot. The lag is subjective, some aren't bothered by it but for those of us who are it's a big nuisance.

The issues im having were present right out of the box, i installed the task killer to see if that would help, i dont have the task killer application anymore after i reset it again - still the same problems.
Is Android 4.4.2 the latest version available for Galaxy Note Pro 12.2?
Only other thing that could be the problem is hardware i suppose, but what kind of problem? that would make the device soooo slow.
You still need to do a factory reset after you reflash the stock rom with Odin.

Well, here is my first complaint about the S6 (on AT&T). It sure is fast and I have little grief about lag (had some weird lag this morning), but I was disappointed when I finally checked my RAM usage. No 3rd party apps running and everything stock AT&T and Samsung (except TW) disabled. 373mb left. Just 12% of 3gb. This leftover was the usual on my S5 with more stuff running in background. On my S6, about 50mb is background stuff I've added.
Is this how all phones are? All carriers?
It seems that Samsung only added ram and debloating for their own purposes. I'd be loathe to see what would have been leftover if they hadn't slimmed their features.
Rant over. Anyone else getting numbers like this?

Same here, i need to debloat the device once it can be rooted.
This is how Android works. Unused RAM is wasted RAM in the Android world. Google "Android RAM usage" and you'll see plenty of articles explaining why.

I thought that is the way android work , Apps will consume portion of your ram so that they will launch quickly once you need it.
I have 1gb free

That much is true, but I have less apps running on my S6 than I did on my S5. That's the crazy part.

Yes. I've also eliminated the cell standby battery drain
Uh you are supposed to have ram filled up, that's it works.
Well what do you expect if you can't even disable ****ing facebook.... There are always 2 processes of Facebook running even though you disable the main Facebook app and you have no option to disable those 2 facebook components.
Looking in the pre installed system apps, you might notice that Galaxy S6 is NOT debloatet like everyone claims.
For what ****ing purpose can't you disable these bloatware apps that you don't need or only need if you buy some special hardware and other extras? :
- ANT + DUT (Some bull**** that is required for some special hardware that you can connect your phone with)
- ANT HAL Service (This one is a special kind of retarded, uses up to 100mb ram)
- com.facebook.appmanager (for **** sake i don't want facebook running on my phone, i most certainly don't need it using my network connection for what reason ever, let me disable this god damnit)
- com.facebook.system
- com.sec.chromecast.remote.... (WHYY? Send me a free chromecast then it would make sense to leave this on all the time)
- Gear VR Service/SetupwizardStub/Shell (Why Samsung, just why don't you let this stuff to get disabled, i don't have a ****ing Gear VR, can't you stop wasting my battery and ram for this nonsense?)
- Musik (Such critical program, of course it can't be disabled, must also run in background all the time)
- Samsung Keyboard(Well sorry Samsung, i don't want to use this iPhone copy keyboard, why can't i disable it?)
- SIM-Toolkit
Coming from HTC One M7, I am really disapointed of Samsung S6s bloatware. Won't be long before i root this and remove all of this crap, just waiting to make sure that everything works fine with this phone before i kill my warranty.

The point was how full it is with not much extra running. If it were like that while I had several apps open, your point would be valid.

Thank you for supplying that lift. I'll keep that in mind whenever I can also root my phone and disable those things. there is so much about the phone that I really do like a lot and it is still way better than the GS5. The camera and processor speed are amazing.
Rooting the S6 has been ready since before it was available for users. I've been rooted and de-bloated for over a week now.

On AT&T? Thought it was the one carrier that wouldn't work. That's what I heard. I'd love to be wrong.

You can disable all of those with Package Disabler.

No you don't, I did it without root on mine.
Pretty well the same on note 4.. frack I am comming from nexus with 2gb ram, where even after all installed and runing apps is with 1.5-1.6GB free. And the mighty note 4 is like s6 with 3gb ram.. guess what it is rooted, almost all bloat removed or disabled and still top free mem is 1.2-1.5gb after reboot... what the heck?
This is defenetly my last samsung phone! Do not care even if next s-line or note line is with 10gb ram... samsung guys will fill it up with more bloat.
Cheers
After seeing this video, I'm a little out off about buying a g6
http://youtu.be/hUw9PUlFUF0
I currently have a iPhone 6 plus and in sick of its 1gb of ram and it having to reload / refresh apps when multitasking. If I have two browser tabs opened and then go to Facebook then back to one of my browser tabs it has to reload that page then if I go back to Facebook it had to reload Facebook. After dealing with this for a few months, I've decided I'm going back to android. I need more ram and fast multitasking. Was going to go with the s6 but also thinking about the lg g4.
I'm on Verizon. I was very tempted to get a nexus 6 but that phone has been out for a little already and I don't want to be stuck with a phone for 2 years Abd not get the most latest processor and other hardware.
Does this issue that was shown in the video still happening to the s6? I've read that lollipop had a memory leak issue so not sure if all phones have this issue or some do some don't. Being that the m9 in the video was not having any issues relaunching many apps without having to be reloaded
lmk what you guys are experiencing. Also if you would recommend waiting for the G4 to come out next week or just get the nexus 6 (I love stock android and soft nav keys )
S6 still has this problem and its extremely aggressive. Its very annoying. Im upset an update has yet to be released

Is it just with this phone. Would the nexus 6 or the new lg G4 have this problem?

Make sure you mention an upgrade hasn't been pushed for Verizon... Every other carrier have pushed at at least one update already...

Sounds like normal Verizon at its best
I'm thinking I'm just going to go with the G4. It has the android nav keys and is the same size as my iPhone 6plus so I won't be loosing my screen size
The nexus 6 is nice but worried about the battery life on it and I was messing with it and is a bit to wide.
Honestlt I hadnt heard that other variants have already had an update. Did it fix the Ram usage?

You will be losing screen size due to on screen buttons. I know most people like them but I don't understand why.

i dont care that i loose a little vertical screen space. not a huge issue and with custom roms, you can resize how big the nav keys if you like.
as for the ram issue, the thing you have to look at is the recent apps that were open. say you opened chrome, then youtube, then messages, then facebook, then twitter, in that order chrome was the first then opened. with low ram devices the first app that was opened, when you run out of ram, the os will just clear out the oldest (first app that was opened) to make room for current apps. but with 3gb's of ram, you should be able to have many different things stay open or where you left off in the background. so for high ram phones. if you went back to chrome, the app it self, should not have to reload and as well as the content (tabs) should not have to be refreshed. this is more noticable with games. if you open a game and its not at the pause screen or where you left it, then the game was automatically shut down to recover ram.
so with that video i posted. the first time he opens apps was just to see how long it took the phones to open those set apps. the thing you have to look for is when he goes back and opens those same apps in the same order. you will see that on the GS6, almost every app had to reload. while the M9, each app was right where it was when it was last used.
I've decided to just go with the nexus 6. my bud has one and he let me **** with it for a while today. he has liquid smooth rom on it and its just amazing. nice and fast, not ram issues. on android 5.1.1 and ill have first dibs on android M (dev previews and full release) when that's out
