From G3 to S6 - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S6

What's up all. I currently have the LG G3 for Verizon. I have it rooted and running xposed. I am waiting on a 64gb S6 that I won in eBay.
My question is for anyone that has moved from the G3 to S6. What are your likes/dislikes for the S6 and how does it compare negatively or positively.
Sent from my VS985 4G using XDA Free mobile app

For me the G3 was the limit on comfortable size, so this is obviously easier for me to hold. I do miss the buttons on the back but that's not to say the buttons on the S6 are bad or misplaced, I just prefer them on back.
The battery is worse and even with little workarounds it's just not as good as the G3 on that front. Fast Charging and wireless charging help with that but the battery is is biggest downfall in my opinion.
I feel like most of the reviews out their reflect my opinions pretty closely.

S6 is perfect except for RAM management. Its like having a Task manager that is ultra aggressive and closes any and every program in the background. It feels like i have a phone that has 500 mb of RAM. SMH

The S6 is crazy fast. You should not need a task manager. Android is Linux based and it uses unused ram for disk caching. Here is a great explanation.
http://www.linuxatemyram.com/

Verizon just released the Samsung update that fixes the over agressive ram management. As for the battery, there are some things you can do. I won't go over it all here. Just look it up in the Q&A and general sections.

Are you sure this was a fix. I thought users yesterday were reporting no changes in regards to this? I really would be happy if this turns out true

You didnt undertand my post. Thanks for trying tho.

Came from a G3 about a week ago and couldn't be happier. I loved my G3 and still find myself double tapping the screen to turn it on the reaching for the buttons on the back, but other than that I couldn't be happier. The size of the G3 got to be a bit cumbersome at times, and the battery life believe or not was worse with the G3. Could not be satisfied with the switch.

My battery BLOWS away my GF's G3. Both took phones off at 6AM. She was dead by 4PM. Mine still has 20% at 10PM. We were shooting HD video and pics all day and uploading. Now hers was stock and there are def issues with the OTA 5.0 on G3 but still.
If you have Cell Standby issues using a huge amount of battery do the fix.

If you look at ram usage nothing appears to have changed. What I have noticed though is that I no longer get the screen redraws and sluggish behavior over just a short amount of time. They did something. I don't think we will see the full effect though until we get the next update that closes the memory leak.

I really appreciate the input from everyone. I can't keep 2 phones, but I'm not going to rush and sell my g3.

I don't think it resolved the issue entirely. But I don't have screen redraws anymore. Hopefully the next update that's supposed to close the memory leak will fix it once and for all. I'm kind of disappointed in Google for releasing the pile of garbage that was lollipop.

Maybe it improved slightly but most of the time I still get redrawn where I shouldn't. Especially when going back to the launcher.

Sense 3.0 Speed in Sensation vs EVO 3D

I checked the below video from Androidcentral.com
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cMioPBv4PbI&feature=player_embedded
Looks like the EVO 3D got better handling on graphics speed. Is this because of the extra RAM? I just bought sensation and i still see some lag in overall touch and scroll experience. Its not bad but not very good either considering the beast hardware. Hope this can be solved by ROM chefs or by HTC themselves when they release a patch or something...
It is a sexy device ,the speed is pretty good for me I really don't get lag ,the data problems could just be some peoples service area ,but overall I'm loving the phone

Yep there are a number of people experiencing this with the Sensation including me. I'm getting mine exchanged but I have a feeling this is going to be an issue until we get an OTA
I have no doubt that there is much performance to be gained from these devices.
The ram isn't the reason. Probably just coding, I wouldn't worry about it.
For those of you who are familiar with HTC, do updates usually improve the speed and smoothness of the phone? And how about battery?

Yes and yes. Normally.
If they don't the community here certainly will.
I saw that video yesterday and it gave me hope. Like many of you have said, I doubt it's the memory memory that's causing the lag. I'm sure with a few tweaks here and there they can speed up sense 3.0 on this device.
Im really very curious as to what is causing people lag. Mine is butter smooth and currently lag free

Like the Evo 3D on the video?
Who actually cares, though? The phone flies as it is and the next OTA will only improve that. Just enjoy the phone and stop comparing it to everything else
The difference is obvious and I haven't seen any Sensation that smooth on any video.
I'm pretty sure it's not the ram that causes lag. If it was ram Desire S Sense 3.0 port wouldn't have been so smooth like on that video.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NmiQs2SIKU8
Pretty sure the 1.34.401.1 ROM runs better from what I've heard so the next OTAs to come out will prob address the issue
I'm more than sure the evo 3D is just running a updated version of sense than ours. Stop stressing people.. Sheesh.
Sent from my HTC Pyramid using the XDA Premium App.
I think its more to do with the screen (panel) and its refreshing rate and rendering speeds. Evo 3D screen might be totally different from sensartion as its a 3D display. I could be wrong and i wish i am wrong. I am hoping for a OTA or custom Rom solve this... still sensation is a better device and i am loving it...
What bloatware does the Evo 3D have loaded onto it? At least those of us on T-Mobile US are stuck with an anti-malware engine that we can't uninstall. It can't be helping.

What app is that? ill uninstall it NOW. Yes i'm on TMOUSA.
I don't think it's a RAM issue at all. I think it's one of two issues. Either it's all of the bloatware that starts up automatically every time you try to close it and some of which is not just running in the background. It is running in the foreground such as QIK video chat. I have never even used it before but it constantly want to run in the foreground. The other reason is that Sense 3.0 might not be fully optimized yet.
Here is why I think the bloatware is causing the issues. After I use a app that restarts everything (Fast Reboot) the system will be showing about 300mb of free memory is available. If you wait 30 minutes, the system then says less than 150mb of free memory available. I really do think that some of the bloatware is causing performance issues and memory leaks.
What is also weird is that I have had 4 Sensations with the same exact apps on them. I have noticed a difference in speed between all 4 of them. The one that I have now is the quickest and there is no stutter at all. The second one I had was lagging so bad that I just returned it for another. This tells me it's all software related.
Mine doesn't really lag but I can't get that carousel effect anymore. I've learned that if the phone works well keep it cuz you never know what kind of crappy replacement you might get

A700 OTA update

A few days ago i mailed some questions to acer about issues we discuss at XDA and in a german board. Especially about heating and some lags.
Today i got an answer. Acer is thankfull for the user comunities feedback. They are working currently on an update to give "better user experience to the Acer A700 Iconia Tab owners" (whatever it means ). They announced the FOTA update for the end of july.
They didn't mention the coming version - but i don't believe, that it could be jellybean. But it is ok, when they get some essential issues fixed!
Regards!
Great news, I saw that another user here posted a reply on some topic with the same information.
I returned my overheating tablet and got another one. This one doesn't get that hot, so I think it's rather a hardware issue than a software... But hey, who knows? xd
Thanks for sharing. The a700 is a good tablet to use on a daily basis, but I definitely believe that with a good software update it could even become a great tablet.
Thankyou for the welcome news.
I have to say, I enjoy mine very much - especially for video. It has a few little niggles that I'd like worked out though, so hopefully the FOTA has a few goodies in it for us!

Yes, the individual variations may be just what makes one tablet usable and another not, as it seems that most of us can routinely get the CPU/GPU up to 80-85 deg C in normal use, which is only a few degrees below shutdown temperature. And, for example better heat sinks may help a lot. But still, I think software tweaks reducing the heat generating workload, for example running non-essential processes with lower priority and forcing CPU frequency down sooner when CPU/GPU heats up could help for better utilization.
Finally the update has arrived.

In a german android forum users have different experiences with the update, good and bad ones. I just installed my update, so i can't say anything about it.
First post greetings to everyone :highfive:
Received the small update, 5MB in size. It does lock the bootloader again.
No apparent changes and the improved responsiveness of the tablet is imaginary I am sure.
330MB update on US...
Brought back some lag issues I thought I was over after tweaking around a bit...Kinda ticked off that it got slower after the update. On the bright side, I've no longer got a weird polygon-jumping screen thing going on. Not noticed much else by way of changes or fixes.
What tweaks?
What tweaks did you do to reduce lag?

I don't know about you guys but my tab actually feels a lot more responsive now. Gaming in particular I'm noticing seemingly better frame rates. I had already disabled many apps to speed up the tab before. I haven't gone through extensive testing but I will say it still gets just as hot as before except that it now runs faster/better.
Received a new update today.
AV043_A700_1.0055.00_EMEA_DE
Sice: ~40 mb
It adds 2 new power option to the settings. They are called balanced and performance. With Balanced the performance seems to be like before. With the second option the device runs better and smoother then before. But I have noticed more heat on the right side. Maybe acer just pumped up the standard clock speed or something I don't know. Before the update I almost had no heating problem now it seems to be stronger. I will test the other powersetti maybe the device gets less heated.

In both places in Settings where you are able to change the font size, I set to "normal," disabled the ring, and deleted all the Acer bloat programs and Kindle and Zinio. Installed Apex Launcher, and it actually worked pretty fast. This update borked all that. Settings are all the same, but it is running slow again.
I'm looking forward to custom ROMs...Acer kinda failed on this update.

Well, i got the first 5Mb update a couple of days ago and today there is anotherone for germany online ..
.. the first one upgraded from image rv07rc03 / buildNr 1.023.00 to image rv07rc06 / buildNr 1.027.00 and it was 'only' 5Mb large. The new update is image rv23rc02 and about 40Mb large and should correct some issues with the sensors, apk-crushes, adds more languages and some energy options ..
.. i will install it later today and report back if there's something realy worthy about it

GS3 using too much RAM?

I have noticed that my GS3 constantly uses more than 1GB of ram....usually about 1.15. I'm on the Synergy ROM. I read somewhere that this might depends on the ROM (some use more than others). Is that true or is there some kind of a tweak I can set up. I usually just hold the home button down and go into task and clear out the memory.
Thanks!
Touchwiz uses alot of ram in general...not much you can do other than switch to aosp roms.

Take a look at this article:
http://www.androidcentral.com/ram-what-it-how-its-used-and-why-you-shouldnt-care
It talks about how Android uses RAM and why it doesn't matter that the RAM is "filling up". It's a bit long and a bit elementary at times, but it's interesting nonetheless.
Edit: as far as programs using more RAM (TW>AOSP), there is probably some performance gain to be seen. BUT since you're not completely filling the RAM currently, it SHOULDN'T be all that significant.

For what it's worth, I'm usually sitting at 1.2g on Synergy Nightly r53.
But I've got a lot of crap that likes to run in the background. Some apps, like Life is Crime use a little over 55mb, but I find that DroidStyle has it right up above. It looks like the elements of touchwiz are taking up like 300-600mb (if you count all the samsungy stuff like gestures and smart watch and all that)
I'm fine with very little ram available, the problem is screen redraws too much and becomes choppy.
Kinda annoying really

i am on 5.1.1 since yesterday, so it's hard to say, but it's still present, maybe a bit better but still needs improvements, and no you can't disable this "feature", if you root your phone you can make it better by changing some things in the build file....my normal ram usage is 80-85%, but even with that my phone doesn't lag at all....i would say we should wait a bit longer....i am sure samsung will fix this issue....maybe with 6.0...
Android is meant to have little free RAM. It's not like Windows.

This is the screenshot on 5.1.1 OF8 i dont know if it changed or not because I upgrade right when I got the phone so haven't not the icon on the previous version
today i tried to test the ram, i opened facebook, twitter, whatsapp, stock browser, dialer, contacts, messages, then i tried to switch between them, and the only app that reloaded all the time was facebook.....the stock browser didn't reload even once, and the web i opened is quit heavy with ton of ads and flash......so i guess it's for sure better than 5.0.2 but still not perfect...

Stock android 10 11.0.11 lags workaround

Hi all,
As many of you I'm frustrated by the lags of this update
I'm an user since oreo I've always updated and I never deleted my data since then
I found a way that for me worked to improve my experience with Android 10 I would like to share it
Go to settings
Battery
Adaptative battery
Battery manager (switch it OFF)
Reboot
Same as above
Battery manager (switch it On)
Reboot
Additionaly I've installed tynycore free version ram memory monitor and is running in foreground providing white bar ram usage indicator
I'm not sure which step fixed the issue but now after a week I'm running a smooth experience.
Tyncore dysplay an average of ram usage around 60%
Let me know if it works for you
Good luck
Thanks, that helped with lags a lot!
Hello, my phone's ram was always around 60%. If there is a leak shouldn't increase by time?

I didn't care about ram usage before the "workaround" so I can say if there was a huge memory consumption.
But you are right... Memory leaks will use all your ram which can't be set free
A lag can be caused by hundreds reason as cpu consumption or wrong coding... I don't think this can be easily discovered. The resolution could be a without sense trick like this
Tinycore measures ram the way the developer tools do. It shows lots of free ram because it's not counting "cached" apps. Lower-level tools like OSMonitor show the true usage, which is much higher (I typically have only 50-150M free but that's what you want to see).
The problem is not ram per-se, it's the system deciding to evict some apps from ram while keeping others in ram. The apps it keeps are not the ones that make sense.
Battery Manager didn't help for me. I can often go a week, but sometimes only a few days before I have to reboot to stop apps from immediately dying when multitasking.
Xiaomi has not been pulling non-security changes from AOSP. There's one about changing sounds for outlook. Perhaps there was a bug that got fixed and they just never got that fix. If custom ROMs don't have the problem, that'd make sense to me...

I hadn't kept tinycore running but after seeing your message I gave it a go. I was hoping that it would help as a side effect of probing the system.
Interestingly... It showed maybe 30% free on the first day, 20% on the second day and 40% on the third day.
However, on that third day, apps are once again being killed as soon as they hit the background. Not even the Play store could update several apps without dying (after I switched to another app).
I find interesting that when tinycore reports the most "free" memory is when the system behaves the worst. Actual ram is full of cached apps, it's just not apps that are useful (IMO).
I guess it's back to daily reboots for me
