A700 OTA update - Acer Iconia A700 and A510

A few days ago i mailed some questions to acer about issues we discuss at XDA and in a german board. Especially about heating and some lags.
Today i got an answer. Acer is thankfull for the user comunities feedback. They are working currently on an update to give "better user experience to the Acer A700 Iconia Tab owners" (whatever it means ). They announced the FOTA update for the end of july.
They didn't mention the coming version - but i don't believe, that it could be jellybean. But it is ok, when they get some essential issues fixed!
Regards!

Great news, I saw that another user here posted a reply on some topic with the same information.
I returned my overheating tablet and got another one. This one doesn't get that hot, so I think it's rather a hardware issue than a software... But hey, who knows? xd

Thanks for sharing. The a700 is a good tablet to use on a daily basis, but I definitely believe that with a good software update it could even become a great tablet.

Thankyou for the welcome news.
I have to say, I enjoy mine very much - especially for video. It has a few little niggles that I'd like worked out though, so hopefully the FOTA has a few goodies in it for us!

Yes, the individual variations may be just what makes one tablet usable and another not, as it seems that most of us can routinely get the CPU/GPU up to 80-85 deg C in normal use, which is only a few degrees below shutdown temperature. And, for example better heat sinks may help a lot. But still, I think software tweaks reducing the heat generating workload, for example running non-essential processes with lower priority and forcing CPU frequency down sooner when CPU/GPU heats up could help for better utilization.

Finally the update has arrived.

In a german android forum users have different experiences with the update, good and bad ones. I just installed my update, so i can't say anything about it.
First post greetings to everyone :highfive:

Received the small update, 5MB in size. It does lock the bootloader again.
No apparent changes and the improved responsiveness of the tablet is imaginary I am sure.

330MB update on US...
Brought back some lag issues I thought I was over after tweaking around a bit...Kinda ticked off that it got slower after the update. On the bright side, I've no longer got a weird polygon-jumping screen thing going on. Not noticed much else by way of changes or fixes.

What tweaks?
What tweaks did you do to reduce lag?

I don't know about you guys but my tab actually feels a lot more responsive now. Gaming in particular I'm noticing seemingly better frame rates. I had already disabled many apps to speed up the tab before. I haven't gone through extensive testing but I will say it still gets just as hot as before except that it now runs faster/better.

Received a new update today.
AV043_A700_1.0055.00_EMEA_DE
Sice: ~40 mb
It adds 2 new power option to the settings. They are called balanced and performance. With Balanced the performance seems to be like before. With the second option the device runs better and smoother then before. But I have noticed more heat on the right side. Maybe acer just pumped up the standard clock speed or something I don't know. Before the update I almost had no heating problem now it seems to be stronger. I will test the other powersetti maybe the device gets less heated.

In both places in Settings where you are able to change the font size, I set to "normal," disabled the ring, and deleted all the Acer bloat programs and Kindle and Zinio. Installed Apex Launcher, and it actually worked pretty fast. This update borked all that. Settings are all the same, but it is running slow again.
I'm looking forward to custom ROMs...Acer kinda failed on this update.

I don't see these power options in my settings. Is this something in the German version but not the US version?

Well what's your version? I just got this update yesterday and it was the second one this week. At first I had 01.0027.00_EMEA_DE which didn't change to much. I.e it didn't had the 2 new power settings. Maybe you will get it later.

Well, i got the first 5Mb update a couple of days ago and today there is anotherone for germany online ..
.. the first one upgraded from image rv07rc03 / buildNr 1.023.00 to image rv07rc06 / buildNr 1.027.00 and it was 'only' 5Mb large. The new update is image rv23rc02 and about 40Mb large and should correct some issues with the sensors, apk-crushes, adds more languages and some energy options ..
.. i will install it later today and report back if there's something realy worthy about it
Added also a screenshot from the update notification

I am now at build number AV043_A700_1.029.00_PA_CUS1.
Not sure if that helps with answering the question since the build numbers are different.

Well that's explains why you don't got the power settings. It's not yet implemented in your build. Just wait for another update with a higher number and you will get it too.

[Q] General performance question...

I'm wondering if anyone can weigh in on how their device performs out of the box. I got mine on Saturday and unlocked it and am thinking of installing some of CM9's work because I've always like what he's done on the Droids, but I'm noticing that this tablet, for lack of a better way to say, is awful.
It freezes all the time. When you get into a the browser, whether it's stock or chrome, the pages are unresponsive to zoom in and out. I mean ultimately your action will be performed, but I've seen it take 5 seconds. It's actually unbearable. My D4 NEVER has this problem EVER and the tablet should blow the D4 away.
How does everyone else's tf300 work? And will custom ROM's improve this awful experience? I don't want to have to take it back and I won't if there is potential somewhere that I'm not realizing. I have 10 days left to decide and right now, it's a no-go. So if anyone can share their experience I'd love to hear it.
I bought my tf300 yesterday, and couldn't be happier. I unlocked it and installed aokp this morning and things have been great. Haven't noticed any lag viewing webpages, youtube, music etc. I've been very happy with this tabIet, as it's my first one. I believe aokp allows you to overclock to 1.5ghz (obviously it drains batteries a little bit more) but even on the stock asus rom, i encountered no lag whatsoever.
as shocking as it might be to know..i have not yet rooted the tf300t. i've been using it for over a month now..i got it the week that it came out..and i've happy with it. every once in a while you will see a "freeze" for now reason. It does seem to freeze more on startup because it is trying to do several things at once (like update gmail, corporate account, and sync up other things). But after that it is really smooth.
I was talking to another friend about this and he managed to hunt down someone else having similar issues to me and Asus declared their product to be defective, issue a new one, which works "flawlessly". I guess it's back to Office Depot I go. I refuse to let Apple win.
Hopefully you get a working one, I'm enjoying mine quite a bit. The aokp rom is quick and fun to use, and I refuse to ever own apple products. Go android!
I bought mine about 2 weeks ago , and it freezes one or 2 times , but in general works great , didn't unlocked and changed to custom roms yet but will in future , but for now i am loving it
Sent from my ASUS Transformer Pad TF300T using xda app-developers app
Have it now for 6+ weeks. Stock/rooted. Works like a champ. Good tablet apps are the issue, not the tab. No way you should have the issues you do.
Still Charged Up
Nice performance
Got mine 3 weeks before. unlocked it and rooted from the second day, i am really happy from the latest update the us.30 for me. i dont experience any lag or freezes or force closes at all. The performance is better but it always depends on the owner.
I found useful to install an app called autostarts (needs root) that prevents apps from being loaded at any time u use your device.
For example i cant understand why google play store must open when i remove an application. With this program i prevent things from loading at startup of the device, so i have a quicker startup time and i know that no other apps are in use when i dont need them and only working is the app that i use.
U can see what apps are runnig at any time with a task manager or something relevant.
So as i say before the performance of a device depends also on the owner.
I bought 2 tf300's, one for me and one for my girlfriend. Mine has Cyanogenmod 9 on it, hers has stock (.30 firmware).
I will say that mine is noticeably faster, Chrome doesn't lag hardly ever, hers freezes up a lot more.
You should be careful about some apps too, Facebook in my opinion is the worst. That app will cause your phone/tablet to lag like nothing else, as soon as I uninstalled Facebook on my girlfriends tablet it was like a brand new machine (though still not quite as fast as CM 9)

I was having this issue also and was getting pretty fed up with it.
However, after doing a reset on the device it works perfectly now. Resetting the device formats the primary partition and takes it back to stock (keeping firmware updates). You can get to this option by turning the device off and holding the volume down button when powering on and it should be the second option. This stopped the force closes and lags with my TF300T
I know that asus has loaded some bloatware on the tablet which cause it to lag occasionaly so i used seanz rom. It's so fast it's scary it really takes advantage of the power of this tablet.

Yeah. Seanz' Hydro rom makes stock appear laggy and unresponsive my device was running slow before the. 30 firmware update.

The lag is mostly happening due to the I/O scheduler in the kernel. We probably won't see the true performance on this tablet until we get a custom kernel. The source is on ASUS's website but no kernel hackers have this device. The lag only shows when mounting and un mounting SD cards, writing to SD cards/NAND and downloading/updating Play store apps.
The only fix I know so far is to go find a SIO scheduler from the Transformer Prime's forum and install it. I did that and the lag went away but looking at benchmarks for I/O schedulers (noop vs SIO), noop has lag but higher scores and SIO has very little or no lag with lower scores.

Is this tablet really this slow and buggy? Worth rooting?

I just bought this device as a toy and a test as a computer tablet. I found it to be slow and buggy. I do notice that in browsing heavy pages like the real facebook page it IS faster than my Galaxy Note 1 but in almost everything else, the Note is faster and snappier. I have disabled lots of apps, resett it, no change. So my question, I guess this one is really worth rooting and installing a good rom Im used to the Cyanogen to my phones, is Cyanogen working good for this tablet?
Im still marveled by the quality of the screen, I dont think I ever have seen such a good screen! If I just now could get it working somewhat near as good as my Note 1 I will be a happy panda
Thanx in advance peeps
My experience is that it is NOT slow and buggy.
I could compare it with an iPad3 last week and I think they are very close.
You can't compare it with a note because due to the much higher resolution the gpu has to do so much more computing. That is why the nexus7 is faster than the tf700 due to it's smaller screen AND resolution

I'm on stock rom with browser2ram and force2gpu enabled. My table is very fast. Just remember before you flash a new rom, just do factory reset(data wipe 3 times). Also root is good (allow you to install rooted app like Titinium backup, SetcPU etc..), but don't unlock unless absolutely necessary (void your warranty), or you have time or like to play with custom rom.
Ok, sounds like I will root it then and try to tweak it, Im not satisfied with the speed with it sofar. Its seems stable now after I resetted it, before the reset, it crasched 2-10 times a day. My idea was that since the GPU and CPU is older in the Note, The Tegra 3 would be able to handle the FullHD resolution but it doesnt seem to .. I definatly want a ROM without the garbage crap
I plan to use it to write alot on, can you recommend a good office app? Or a browser that google docs work good with
Is games running good for you?? The new demanding ones I tried before resetting was really slow and laggy.
Thanx for the replys, I hope I get this baby running smoother

Yes, all games, videos, pictures, and documents and apps are function normally. There are 3 most popular office apps:
1. Documents to go (this can view google docs also. Paid version only)
2. Kingsoft office
3. Polaris office (currently polaris has a bug with fonts).
My stock browser can view google docs fine. I think stock browser is the best in my opinion (have tried boat, chrome, mozilla etc...)

The Infinity's performance is not CPU bound and is not due to the higher res. It's I/O limited. The CPU is plenty fast enough. As soon as the memory config requires the system to start hitting the /sdcard memory, the system will be subject to random stuttering/pausing because the sdcard memory is the cheapest, slowest, crappiest flash RAM ASUS could find.
This is why stuff like browser2ram is seen as a huge boost for people that do a lot of browsing and it is also why the stuttering varies from user to user/session to session since the RAM situation in the system varies from config to config and moment to moment during use. Some users who's config has a lot of free DRAM and do not frequently use stuff that hits the sdcard partition hard, see almost no performance issues with the tablet.

I guess I'm going to do the downgrade to ICS .30\root\then try the rootkreeper deal back to Belly Jean.
I really don't want to go thru all this, but if I want to keep chipping away trying to find a better Android experience then so be it.
Pain in the ass...
Thanx for the info! That was my biggest thoughts about the Infinity, "is the RAM enough?" and it isnt but then Ill just have to multitask less and try to tweak it. And perhaps dont install multipicture wallpaper.. but thats one of the things that I love about my Note
buhoitr: thanx for the suggestions, Ill try them and see
What rom would you suggest for getting the most out of the Infinity?

Hmmm, I've found mine to be quick and virtually bug-free, but then again I didn't buy it as a toy.
A little tweaking and I wouldn't call it slow. Even stock its a solid piece of equipment.
Apply data2sd mod built for CleanROM 2 after installing the ROM. You'll need a fast sd card.

I own both the Infinity and the Acer a700 and after the a700 got JB earlier today, I will say that the Infinity lags more than the a700 (and I was very happy with the Infinity). Colour me shocked.
The only time I really ever experience any lag or sluggishness is when browsing. I will be rooting once there is a method discovered for Jelly Bean on the Infinity. I'd really like to give browser2ram a shot. I've heard it does wonders for browsing.

Before i say thing, I will list the important things about my tablet - C7 model, Has been repaired for speaker issues & Jelly bean 4.1.1. I'd say TF700T is a powerful device, It lacks the software for it. I use to notice quiet a bit of lag on ICS but after upgraded to Jelly bean, It's faster than ever! I would even compare it to iPad 3:laugh: I'm running Stock Jelly bean with a bit of removing apps here and there.
I Don't know why everyone is having problems with such a decent device.

I you guys would read the Development section (read the newer threads, please) you would see that CleanROM2.2 has pretty much completely eliminated the lag and i/o issues. It's reason enough to root and unlock. This tablet is a beast when it is allowed to begin to reach its full potential.

[Q] To change ROMs or not

So I typically root almost all my android devices once I get them. My Infinity was the first device I tried keeping stock unrooted as long as possible. I will be honest with saying that there were some times that I didn't even think about the fact if it was rooted or not. Unlike my phone I really only use it for class from time to time to take notes and mostly read books/comics or play games. However, I was utterly floored by the speed difference that my friend got out of his by rooting his. He picked up a TF700 about a month ago from ebay and rooted it the other day. We then spent yesterday testing it out with similar loads. His battery life was about an hour better than mine doing relatively the same thing (head to head gaming), watching netflix, and browsing a few comics. What really got me was the speed and decrease in lag. Honestly I didn't even realize the lag was so bad on mine (I guess I had grown use to it) compared to his.
So my question is this: Would I get even better performance / stability / battery life out of changing the rom to say Cyano or Paranoid or is the stock ROM minus the apps and a few tweaks from the threads the best I am going to get?
If anyone has any expriences they are willing to share with me I would greatly appreciate it.

I personally like Cromi/Cromi-X. I used Cyano for a while but settled on Cromi for the speed. Cromi is based on stock and optimized for speed, so if don't care about additional customization, I would say go for Cromi. But you will lose your warranty if you unlock the tablet to install custom ROMs. Not sure about stability/battery life improvements but I've never had issues with either on Cromi.

This is my two cents. Any custom rom and kernel that you pick will be faster than the stock. I am using Cromi X 4.7 and Hund 3.3.2. I believe that they are very major and stable. The battery life is depended on how you set your device up. Wifi and screen brightness are the most battery consumptions of all. You can go to the wifi advance setting and set it to never use wifi during sleep. You can lower the brightness of your screen unless you are outside to use the ips+. You can also set your turn off screen to one or two minutes before it goes to sleep. With all of that can give more battery back. You will be happy with Crmi X with your choice of kernel..

I wanted to thank both of you for all the help that you have provided. This was great advice and Cromi-X works amazingly. While I was drawn to CM by its features, trying out the speed of Crom definitely was a high point for me. The difference from the stock (even stock rooted with apps pulled) and Crom is night and day.

Stock android 10 11.0.11 lags workaround

Hi all,
As many of you I'm frustrated by the lags of this update
I'm an user since oreo I've always updated and I never deleted my data since then
I found a way that for me worked to improve my experience with Android 10 I would like to share it
Go to settings
Battery
Adaptative battery
Battery manager (switch it OFF)
Reboot
Same as above
Battery manager (switch it On)
Reboot
Additionaly I've installed tynycore free version ram memory monitor and is running in foreground providing white bar ram usage indicator
I'm not sure which step fixed the issue but now after a week I'm running a smooth experience.
Tyncore dysplay an average of ram usage around 60%
Let me know if it works for you
Good luck
Thanks, that helped with lags a lot!
Hello, my phone's ram was always around 60%. If there is a leak shouldn't increase by time?

I didn't care about ram usage before the "workaround" so I can say if there was a huge memory consumption.
But you are right... Memory leaks will use all your ram which can't be set free
A lag can be caused by hundreds reason as cpu consumption or wrong coding... I don't think this can be easily discovered. The resolution could be a without sense trick like this
Tinycore measures ram the way the developer tools do. It shows lots of free ram because it's not counting "cached" apps. Lower-level tools like OSMonitor show the true usage, which is much higher (I typically have only 50-150M free but that's what you want to see).
The problem is not ram per-se, it's the system deciding to evict some apps from ram while keeping others in ram. The apps it keeps are not the ones that make sense.
Battery Manager didn't help for me. I can often go a week, but sometimes only a few days before I have to reboot to stop apps from immediately dying when multitasking.
Xiaomi has not been pulling non-security changes from AOSP. There's one about changing sounds for outlook. Perhaps there was a bug that got fixed and they just never got that fix. If custom ROMs don't have the problem, that'd make sense to me...

OS monitor in my case show 30% of free ram... not far away from tinycore assumption
My phone after 10 days is still usable after steps in post #1
Unfortunately I can't change rom in those days I need both sim working and I don't want fix drawbacks afftecting my job
I've disabled automatic updates and I'll move forward if I'll get good feedback from next updates
This method actually worked for me. Thanks a lot @joyride76. Tried a lot and nothing really worked and this little steps made the problem not occure for about 3 days now. I have Lspeed installed ever since I have the device, but this alone, never really helped out. Thanks again!

Happy to read I'm 13 days up without major issues
Your post it's a good confirmation
I'm not confident in your fix. I have tried it but my phone still gets slow between 24 and 48h of not restarting it.
Sadly this did not work on my phone. Memory shows 58% used memory but lag appears after 24hrs. Restart helps.
Wow. I'm actually surprised that Android 10 became much more usable. I was so frustrated and ready to trash it...

I hadn't kept tinycore running but after seeing your message I gave it a go. I was hoping that it would help as a side effect of probing the system.
Interestingly... It showed maybe 30% free on the first day, 20% on the second day and 40% on the third day.
However, on that third day, apps are once again being killed as soon as they hit the background. Not even the Play store could update several apps without dying (after I switched to another app).
I find interesting that when tinycore reports the most "free" memory is when the system behaves the worst. Actual ram is full of cached apps, it's just not apps that are useful (IMO).
I guess it's back to daily reboots for me

Question Awfully slow scrolling on POCO X4 PRO 5g

EDIT: I've done a factory reset and it stays the same. there is no intertia when scrolling. even at first step, when choosing the phone langage at first setup.
Hello everyone, hope you can help.
The scrolling is very slow compared to any other phone, I borrowed a samsung phone from a friend to show the difference. There is not inertia, it's really annoying, I have to scroll 10 times to see a long webpage. It is really a software issue, the screen is working perfectly.
The only place where the scrolling is smooth it's in the settings/developer options, see video.
Thanks all in advance.

I've never encountered this issue on stock ROM nor on MIUI EU ROM which I've flashed on this phone. See if switching between 120/60hz screen mode changes anything. Seeing as you have developer options enabled maybe you've selected so etjingnin there shouldn't have too - try disabling that. Have you tried factory resetting to see if that fixes it? Obviously backing up all your data first.

Hello and thenks for your answer, I've just got a brand new phone. It's been happening from the beginning, even before enabling developer options, I've seen other people having the same problem, thought it was a rom problem (i'm using stock rom updated to 13.0.5)
https://www.reddit.com/r/Xiaomi/comments/laay68
tried that fix as well of corse and didn't help
Can you run Geekbench on your device when this happens and post the scores here?
Thanks for helping, below both CPU and COMPUTE Benchmarks

Although I think is not a matter of bad performance it's just the ROM itself Im afraid. It's a feature let's say.
PS: I've done a factory reset and it stays the same. there is no intertia when scrolling. even at first step, when choosing the phone langage at first setup.
If you've watched videos of this phone in use and you can see the scrolling works alot better than yours - if I were you, I'd return my device. If the issue was ROM wide then it could perhaps be a digitiser issue. If it's only some screens then I'd think it was a setting somewhere... Since you've factory reset your phone I'd say you can rule out a setting applied on accident. Haven't seen anyone else mention this issue yet

Hello, thanks for your answer. How does the benchmark look? Strangely the scrolling is super-smooth and has inertia with some apps or setting, for example in the developer settings and in the settings area in general is butter-smooth. My phone came with MIUI 12 and unfortunaly I've updated it straight away so can't really compare.
I've seen other people complaining:
https://www.reddit.com/r/PocoPhones/comments/lsoh67
Why does MIUI 13 (Android 12) feel so sluggish and generally-speaking slow on X3 Pro?
Hi everyone, I was thrilled last night when my X3 Pro showed an upgrade to Android 12-based MIUI 13 was available. I downloaded the thing (all 3.1 GB of it...), install went without a hitch, ditto reboot, but I'm severely disappointed so far...

To be fair, I've never cared for benchmarks unless I've run flagship devices so I haven't bothered testing this as it runs smooth and has good batter life. Which benchmarking app would you like me to test for you? Will post results

Thread 'Redmi Note 11(spes) CPU throttling issue with Android 11 based MIUI 13' https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...-issue-with-android-11-based-miui-13.4433093/
I asked to run Geekbench to know if you face the above issue. Sometimes, my Redmi Note 11 caps peak CPU frequency to 1.1Ghz (instead of 2.4Ghz) and it never peaks till I reboot!
Juste wanted to check if it's prevalent across MIUI 13 irrespective of device.
Hi! This happened to me on freshly flashed xiaomi.eu ROM.
I was able to fix it by changing default wallpaper to something else

I did change the WP but didn't help either. Just seen a MIU 13 update has been rolled out. I'll wait a few days to seee if it's buggy and install it. Thanks

I have the exact same issue so send text or WhatsApp messages is a nightmare, I often just send half completed messages as a result. I raised this with Xiaomi support who just refunded me without troubleshooting suggesting it's a known fault

Not so much lag but when want to move the cursor or scroll for editing it freezes. I am very tempted to buy another one as they're not cheaper and hope for the better. Same on gbord and swifkey using text and whatsapp.
