Hi XDA,
This thread is for OpenEclair tweaks or tips that you might have to increase performance. I'm currently running 1.1.1 and I wanted to find out from our forum members what they have done to increase performance and just make it run faster. Tweaks & tips should be posted here for everyone to use at their discretion. OpenEclair is pretty stable, but I'm willing to sacrifice some stability for speed. Once some useful tweaks & tips are posted, I will be updating the main post to consolidate them.
My current settings:
CompCache - 32MB
No Swap
Home app is not checked to stay in memory in Spare Parts*
*I just made this change and it seems to provide a noticable increase responsiveness when hitting home and opening the App Drawer.

no, it belongs in the openeclair thread
lol and changing compcache settings isnt going to make the ROM run like its on the droid
kingklick, I use to respect you man. But lately man you've just been acting like a total ****. Like for real if you don't have something positive or constructive to say then just honestly don't post and gtho... No need to try and play "User Mod" when/if a mod see's this and feels it's in the wrong area they'll take care of it.

I see your point:
"This thread is for OpenEclair tweaks or tips that you might have to increase performance."
is anyone actually gonna post tips to improve speed?
if not complaining is cool too
The way I see it:
a) by only using compcache you get a better performance in singletasking, lowlevel multitasking; usercase includes people who are taskkillers compulsive fanatics; not many apps installed, few widgets on homescreens
b) extending compache with a backing swap OR using only swap, while decreasing singletasking performance vs 'only using compcache', dramatically increases your ability to multitask
So, it's a matter or personal preference and use case. I'm an a) kind of guy @ 1.6 roms, though lately I've been using compcache with backing swap (kind of a best of two worlds...).
In 2.1, which seems to be a tad bit of a resource hog for the G1 since it still lacks some optimization, swap allows you to 'ride the beast' fairly well. However, when it gets streamlined and optimized enough, with a use case like a), I'd say compcache pays off once again.

is an entire thread necessary is all I was saying......

lol there is SOOO much tweaking to be done the only posts that have been posted have been flames directly at myself only
Well this thread is kind of a good idea.
Even though it started off bad, it could turn into a thread solely dedicated to Tweaks and Tips instead of a whole bunch of issues, problems, concerns, etc.. like with all the other ROM threads.
you are really questioning MY intelligence after posting THIS??!?!?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=627858
This thread was primarily for OpenEclair although if anything useful came about from it, it would probably be applicable to other Eclair ROMs on the G1. I was hoping to see not only CompCache/Swap settings, etc but Custom Kernels or actually discussion regarding the code available in GitHub that someone could run with to create an unofficial performance increasing update.zip (at the sacrifice of some stability, JIT anyone? ).
Some apps can also substaintially lower performance with Eclair on the G1.

i just downloaded the latest version of android revolution and when i run the benchmark test im only getting a score of 1583 using quadrant standard, when i see people on youtube getting around 1800 with the stock rom.

Quadrant is a waste of time!! You must be new around here. Welcome to XDA. Please be sure to post in the correct forums in the future. Especially when it comes to the dev forum. We need to reserve this specifically for development. I can tell you several ways to bloat your score like they did but it does absolutely nothing for performance.

No problems man! Things happen. I just wanted to let you know that quadrant really doesn't mean too much anymore with how easy it is to bloat the scores. Hell, a single lib file can add several hundered to your base score. Just base it off of how your device feels. If it feels laggy and you can't figure out why post a question otherwise just enjoy the speed we all bring to you.
Moved to proper forum.
IMO synthetic benchmarks are bs to begin with in any aspect...especially on a "phone"...its not a mainstream gaming rig....lol...just my two cents....shrugs

So how is this different than any other mods that basically does the same thing? And no credits? You made them all by yourself?
I just took a look inside your init.d script, nothing special, even a noob like me understands most part. The values are mostly the same as other tweaks.

Yeah, you have to list out all the people or link that helped you. And maybe put them in your script too.
You might wanna add this line to your OP too. "To devs, if you wanna include this in your ROM please include proper credits." Or something like that.

HE ISN'T TAKING CREDIT, he took OPEN SOURCED things and compiled them. I think it's up to him whether or not he wants to share the original authors, because after all, it is open sourced. I'd much rather see constructive input rather than pointing out things as silly as "You're stealing open sourced things."

its working quite good I think on my S4. I would probably like it if you add a version number to the release or upcoming releases in case you publish an update. and if there are credits to give, its probably better to do so. overall, its working as you announced it and replaced two-three other scripts here for ext4 and sd card..so, yeah. thanks a lot!!

False false false and false again times 1 trillion. Just because something is open sourced does not mean you can blindly take something that was authored by an individual and kang it then redistribute it as "Original works". All I can say is I hope he didn't take anything of mine out of killjoy cause I'm going to check when I get home. With that said if I see something in here that was authored by another individual and I know that individual I will pm them the proof to get this project eighty sixed from xda.
Word to the wise!!!
Respect other developers
Give proper credits
Don't blindly kang for profit
Follow apache 2.0 and GPU Agreement licensing requirements
At quick glance I see your using @LENAROX and @Ryuinferno work in here ALOT. Rngd binary belongs to @Ryuinferno and multiple device calculators belong to @LENAROX. I don't recognize any other works in here. but start with giving these two great developers proper credits please.

Its just a question and those having reasons can discuss(dont ARGUE,i am better at it)
There's some ROM development for Lenovo P2,but there is not even a single custom kernel development for this device. I would love to see some kernels with features like OC, voltage controls and many more... Would like to know why there's not even a single kernel for P2 on xda.

Actually developers don't get born as developers.
They are normal people like you and me.
Everyone of us can become a developer.
If you don't want to invest your time,
Please don't ask why others aren't investing theirs.
I am trying to learn how to build a kernel/ROM myself.
I already completed a build of aicp for my Nexus 6
But up to now it doesn't even gets to the boot animation :'(
It is surely not a super easy thing to do but if you never start you will never reach a goal.

I am not at all DEMANDING any developer to make kernels or something, also am not a newbie and have been testing kernels for years on my previous device... The only question is that why there's no kernel development for this device even after about 8 months of launch. I hope you understand my question and dont argue further on this thread.
And this is not just a question,it is my effort to draw attention of developers towards kernel development. You might not be able to make one as of now,but there might be others capable of doing so...

1st off. If you want a custom kernel and there is no one. Build it yourself!
2nd. Learn to read
3rd. OC? Go buy yourself an OP3, OP5 if you want to Overclock your CPU for your gaming needs.
4th. No body wants to undervolt an snapdragon 625 processor! For what reason?? to save battery?! On a 5100mah Lenovo P2 with a snapdragon 625? Seriously?!

You kids just have a small scope of thinking. OC is not just meant for high end devices. It can be done to improve performance on any of the devices. I had A6000 earlier which was OC from 1.2ghz to 2ghz!! Shockked??
According to u a good device doesnt need custom features(your 4th point),then why does op3 have lots of kernels and ROMS,isnt the stock rom enough.
@The Flash plz clean the crap from this thread, people are thinking that i am ordering them for kernel development.

We are the kids here?
Those who understand that OC shortens the device's lifespan due to additional heat to the die?
Those who understand that highly educated engineer's from Qualcomm have build and lab tested the snapdragon's to work on a specific voltage on a specific clock rate to ensure impeccable and stable processing?

Here you speak like kids, there's nothing like a perfect frequency on which a processor can work, there is a specific RANGE of mhz under which a processor can work efficiently, the extremes of it would decide performance or battery,so i'm talking about OC within that range, overclocking a bit wont harm the processor.

Seriously you have no idea what you are talking about. You are a number chaser and only want to see hgher numbers in benchmarks like a child and be able to show your school kid friends what number you were able to archive.
Please sell your Lenovo P2 and leave this subforum.
Or I see myself forced to build you a custom Kernel (which I can. As I'm a dev) and build it in that way that it intentionally overclocks to a clock rate which will keep crashing due to the chipset protecting itself and turning itself off. All the way to the point where you will fry your chipset and cry like an infant to your parents.

Firstly my concern is not OC,its custom kernel.
And secondly i am not telling you to build a kernel with OC of 5ghz,clear ur misconception that 'OC is bad for processor' and rewrite it,'OC above a certain level is bad for processor.'
Nope. Not gone build one.
And i know any good dev that understands how Core-Ctl works won't build one either.
So it looks like it's on you to learn how to develop and build yourself a custom Kernel.

Yeah right. I have no idea what a kernel does and what it includes and what possible features one can include/exclude. It just so happens that I accidentally build the first custom kernel for the P2 within days of its device release to build a working TWRP for it. For everyone to be able to root its device. I'm betting you are using my TWRP build too.
I'm not gone argue here. Because your post count and thanks count speak for themselves. You are a user who demands and don't give anything in return.

All you did is complain!
I was never demanding a kernel, read properly 'my thread was regarding there isnt a single kernel even after 8 months of launch',then people like you came here and then i felt the need of ADDING and NOT CHANGING my words.
And i am not a developer but i used to test the first builds of kernels and help dev make the best out of it.
C'mon, we already got an army of zombie bots asking for volte, no need to deteriorate this board more with such animosity
First off... Poor guy didn't know who he was arguing with... Which makes this a whole lot fun to read...
Keeping that aside, we're short of devs we don't even have a proper Custom ROM. So please familiarise yourself with this new thread.
Secondly, if you're good at something then prove it with your works... Not by arguing.
Peace ppl...
Oh I think you mentioned about OC in your first post which made things a little crazy. Custom kernals are not just OC yea... We need color calibration volume etc.. etc.. I get it... But we don't have a single perfect custom ROM yet. Which should easily give you an idea about the development of this device. So go easy on devs here.

@jasonwong28 you're right, you did it normally, it's always a good idea to check downloaded stuff with virustotal, you did it and you ask people about safety, that's normal, but @Xuxaze affirm that it isn't safe maybe without any knowledge, you know what ?, ,I was developping an Android APP named FYT Launcher manager, to allow install / uninstall FYT launchers from Android Headunit directly without flash (root required or kernel embeeded app to be decided) but reading that comment from the newbie I ask myself, why I am wasting time for the community ?, le the code apart and gonna take good time instead of wasting it for people like the newbie !

I fully understand your anger and frustration. It happens to more of us that some user says something insulting, entirely wrong, plain stupid or whatever makes you furious. And it is understandable that you feel like this right now.
Please note that in general there are a lot of users that are really happy and pleased with what you do, and perhaps half of them do not even express their gratitude.
Please cool down a few days. If you still feel the same after a few days, then you should indeed stop with your contributions.
I have been there a few times as well, right or not (from my point of view), but then I balance the positive reactions against one negative reaction from "some user". Please let not one trolling user spoil your pleasure in what you do. It would be a sad way to say goodbye.
