So how is this different than any other mods that basically does the same thing? And no credits? You made them all by yourself?
I just took a look inside your init.d script, nothing special, even a noob like me understands most part. The values are mostly the same as other tweaks.

Alrighty then.
Yeah, you have to list out all the people or link that helped you. And maybe put them in your script too.
You might wanna add this line to your OP too. "To devs, if you wanna include this in your ROM please include proper credits." Or something like that.

I would probably like it if you add a version number to the release or upcoming releases in case you publish an update. and if there are credits to give, its probably better to do so. overall, its working as you announced it and replaced two-three other scripts here for ext4 and sd card..so, yeah. thanks a lot!!

False false false and false again times 1 trillion. Just because something is open sourced does not mean you can blindly take something that was authored by an individual and kang it then redistribute it as "Original works". All I can say is I hope he didn't take anything of mine out of killjoy cause I'm going to check when I get home. With that said if I see something in here that was authored by another individual and I know that individual I will pm them the proof to get this project eighty sixed from xda.

If you want assistance, I would not post comments like that, it not only makes the poster look stupid but it makes you look arrogant.
Rather than relying on other people do the work for you, why dont you follow the tutorial that you so kindly posted and do the hard work yourself.
I think it has to be built within an app. I want this function as well so what I'm doing is trying to edit the existing mediascape code rather than build a new app

I was offering you an alternative instead of waiting for someone to hold your hand and walk you through how to build it into an app. Sine by reading your posts it's apparent that you either don't have a clue (you have a nice guide posted already) or don't want to put the work in on it. Good luck with your project, might get more help if you remove the attitude from your posts.

I think that only the kernel source was released, not application sources, well at least not SE's - which includes mediascape.
If they were released, then SE would have no differentiator, at least software-wise, for their phones, as any single person or manufacturer would be able to compile the applications, and add them to their own roms.

android_bash
If you don't know what Bash is, search Google instead of asking that here. Thanks!
This is primarily useful to anyone who spends a fair amount of time either in adb or in a terminal.
To quote the README at github:
#
# android_bash
#
# 2011 nubecoder
# www.nubecoder.com/
#
Project info:
Bash, cross-compiled and modified for the android platform.
Modifications include:
Adjusted path of init files (.bashrc, .profile, etc) from '~/' to '/data/local/'.
Added support for storing init files on '/mnt/sdcard/' (only used when the files do not exist in '/data/local/').
Some default init files are included as (working) examples.
Stripped for size (args used for stripping: '-d --strip-unneeded').
Zips that can be installed via a custom recovery can be found here:
http://www.nubecoder.com/files/android/android_bash/
Three versions of Bash, 3.2, 4.0, and 4.1 (I couldn't get 4.2 to build).
The recovery install-able zips linked above DO NOT replace the default shell. To use after installed, log onto adb or a terminal emulator and type 'bash' or 'su -c bash' (for root) and hit enter. Now enjoy a real shell on your phone!
These files will be installed onto your phone:
Binary file:/system/bin/bashSupport files:/system/etc/bash.bashrc
/system/etc/profile
/data/local/.bash_aliases
/data/local/.bashrc
/data/local/.inputrc
/data/local/.profile
Here's some more info on what these files are.
And here for .inputrc.
After some testing, it seems the sdcard support needs to be fixed up a a bit.
.inputrc is not being looked for in '/mnt/sdcard' yet and '.bash_aliases' needs to be somewhere it can be "executable". Otherwise, it's contents should be moved into '.bashrc'
I'll fix up the '.inputrc' stuff and update with that later.
The sdcard support has been updated and is fully working for both .inputrc and .bash_aliases.
The support files include a decent set of configurations.
Here's a short list of some of them:
Colored prompt (red while root, green otherwise).
$HOME variable defined as '/data/local/' ('~/' now works).
Aliases for some busybox commands including adding '--color=auto' to 'ls' commands.
Allows use of CTRL+ARROW keys, correct DELETE functionality, etc.
$HISTFILE defined as '/mnt/sdcard/.bash_history'.
Using Bash already and want to check which version it is? Run this in adb / terminal (requires busybox)
strings $(which bash) | grep "Bash version"or
echo $BASH_VERSION
Taken from my post here.

Honestly, I have no Idea, the biggest difference I know of is file size (v3.2 being the smallest).
The three versions here are fully patched and up to date, so there's a chance that there is minimal difference between them.
I opted to offer the three versions, since it's pretty easy to build (when it doesn't give errors).
If anyone has a request for an older version (for whatever reason) I'd be happy to build that as well (assuming there aren't errors).
Bash as default shell:
If you know what you are doing and want to use bash as the default shell.
Then I shouldn't have to tell you how to replace '/system/bin/sh' with a symlink to '/system/bin/bash'.
And that you should back up the original sh binary.
And that adb in recovery is the only way to fix your shell if you mess it up.
I didn't need to say those things, since you know what you are doing, right? =]
I should add here, that some kernels will "not allow" Bash as default shell, and by that I mean they have "/sbin/sh" and "/bin/sh" (symlinks to busybox) that will be created on every boot and are earlier in PATH than "/system/bin/" (ie will be used if found first).DRockstar's Clean Kernel: /sbin/sh and PATH.
Rodderik's Genocide Kernel: /sbin/sh and PATH.This means that your new symlink for "/system/sh" will never be used.
It also means, you really can't break your shell like I described above (which is a good thing).
You can point you're favorite Kernel developer to my little fix that allows Bash to be used as the default shell.
What the fix does is:
Checks to see if "/system/bin/sh" is symlinked to "/system/bin/bash".
Checks that "/system/bin/bash" is a file that exists.
Removes "/bin/sh" and "/sbin/sh" and symlinks them to "/system/bin/sh".You could also put that little fix into an init.d script that has '/' mounted as RW.
(If I get around to doing this, maybe I'll add it to the packages.)
These zips use generic mounting and should work on most devices that have a custom recovery.
There is a chance you may need to edit the PATH to get it properly working on your device. (See here for more info.)
The binaries can be used on any android (ARM) device.
Here's a link to the GitHub Project.

Honestly, I have no Idea, the biggest difference I know of is file size (v3.2 being the smallest).
The reason I started this project is because I wanted to get the newest "up to date" version built and working for android.
That said, version 4.2 would simply not compile for me with any toolchain I attempted.
I could probably have tried to fix the errors that were being thrown during compile, but rather I decided to go the easy route (and just skip it).
The real benefit of these packages, is that they come with the init files, which allow for things like aliases.
The biggest thing for me was the CTRL+ARROW keys / DELETE fixes which are contained in ".inputrc".
With out ".inputrc" the DEL key sends the '~' character, which is quite annoying (to say the least).
Another big plus for me is '--color=auto' added to the ls commands, which makes viewing the listed files/folder so much nicer.
This is primarily useful to anyone who spends a fair amount of time either in adb or in a
terminal.
[edit]
I'll be testing out the sdcard support sometime tonight, if anything isn't working as expected I'll fix it and update the files.

Awesome contribution here. a quick question though.
According to OP, compiled binary should be compatible with all devices, however I'm concerned that the modifications to input.rc might end up in weird results on other devices. I plan on looking into it later when I get the chance, but any advice until then?
I'm on the sidekick 4g, and although I already have a working bash (from scattered sources through googling), I would much rather prefer this bash because of provided source code and documentation.
Also, @nubecoder if I can get this to work, would you mind if I made a flashable zip and guide/thread-post in the sk4g forum? I would give credit to you of course.

The .inputrc file came from my Ubuntu install. When I searched Google for a fix to the DELETE key problem, I found the fix was using an inputrc file.
After inspecting my Ubuntu's default file and comparing with the fixes I wanted, it seemed to be just what I needed (with a tiny bit extra that may not apply to android, but didn't seem to cause problems).
So I wouldn't expect any problems using it with other devices, but feel free to comment out anything you think you might not want (IIRC there are comments about what each setting is doing).

Another good reason for my project. There is very little info out there about what changes were made during the compile.
Using 'strings' I was able to determine that the available Bash binaries for android that I found, simply have "/sdcard/.profile" (or "/sdcard/.bash_profile" I can't specifically remember) unconditionally added to the end of the "list" of files to check for.
I had been using one I built doing exactly the same thing until I started the project.
I felt it'd be better to actually change the code to look in "/data/local/" and then check on "/sdcard/" if needed.
Also I forgot to mention a couple things in the OP about where it installs files (some go into "/system/etc/"), so I'll update that in a minute here.

Then you build and compile your own custom rom that has all the features you want/need in it. People should be thankful for whatever custom work has been done on the phone. I will find a way to decompile the apk, edit the uastring, and then recompile.

My post wasn't directed towards you in anyway. Sorry if I offended to you, and I thank you for contributing to this forum.
May I ask what ROM you're running?

Okay so before the trolls walk in i just want everyone to know i'm new to the Rom scene therefore i do not know all the rules for when you post one.
Now for the kinda cool part. I got bored today and figured i wanted to make a Rom based off of SupremeSense. But i realized i dont know everything about rom building so i took a stock based rooted rom and threw some supremesence in it but it wont boot now so what im proposing is that i post it, then you guys add your own little tweaks to it leave sceen shots and details and if its awesome(better than what i already have posted) i will replace my link with the one you provide. We will continue this until you guys stop posting. Remember im open to all suggestions.

I like the idea, what exactly is it? Any screen shots or anything to go off?

I cant exactly get it to boot up but i do know there are smarter people out there that know what to do. But what i did was download the latest SupremeSence And a rooted stock based rom, then pulled up 7zip copy a bunch of Supreme into the Stock added a little me and flash it. My original goal was to get landscape on Supreme but i reallized i wanted to take it bigger, if you want i can pm it to you and you can upload\try to get it working
Yeah what's the goal here? You can't just take a rooted stock ROM and start adding my apk/odex files to it. Another difference between Stock and SS is resources.

i just basicaly wanted another rom out there for us because we dont have much to choose from. And i wanted to base it off of your rom because it awesome, i figured i have a ton of spare time so might as well try
So where to begin. First off its a nice IDEA. Ill give you that much. Second off there are technical and ethical issues your facing .
The first thing you ever do is ask permission whenever you are using someone elses work, and it doesnt sound as if you asked strapped365 for permission to use it (whether he minds or not is a different story. Should always ask)
Second is like Strapped365 said you cant just open 7zip and start dragging and dropping. Its ameture ,and almost never works,
Please research. I love the fact that someone wants to learn about developing ROMS and such, but you need to make more of an effort to learn the time it takes to do this
Oh and if you have no public work to share please don't post in development section.and if you do get a public link up (if the mods are nice) then post (wip) at the title to show its not really functional . Because this is far from beta ,more like pre pre alpha as it wont even boot.
I dont really believe this belongs in this section but im not a mod
Good luck, back to betting on horses

thanks for the reality check
a large part of the mods are done between apks and jar files with editing the smali in classes.dex (if done correctly anyways) so taking one rom and another and trying to mash will almost never work like notsointeresting said above. As for there not being much to choose from, theres actually quite alot for the shift, especially in the last couple months.
newSENSE
Supreme Sense
CM-7
unofficial CM-9 builds
Cyclonic
Stock Rooted
MIUI
and many more.
theres quite a few devs busting ass and pumping out some quality work. your idea is nice and also like notso said, you def need to ask permission from other devs before trying to tear apart or manipulate a rom theyve worked hard on. there are some guides floating around though that are great assistance in making your own roms. sparksco, dodgejcr, one_love_420, and a few others i cant remember offhand have put up guides to help build kernels and compile roms. do a little reading and practicing and in no time youll be building your own custom rom too.
this by all means isnt an attack, just a confirmation of whats been posted already and some of my own opinions. good luck learning and building.
i cant seem to find a way to close this thread. Please help and i have no problem if you guys want to use my ideas. Finally, can somebody point me to a rom a kernle building thread because the ones i keep finding are phone specific

And to close a thread a mod has to do that. Go on the xda site and click report thread at the top right and just type in close post or move it or what not

Before this gets locked, I would like to say kudos to OP. Great idea, and hope you find your way in the community. I tried (not hard) but did try to understand developing, and quickly gave up. This community is full of smart people that make it hard for us dumber ones to really be helpful, my way of helping is to hit thanks buttons and stay in the shadows. Good luck man
question for op did you change the updater script or anything what happends when it attempts to boot ? black screen wont even flash etc..

We won't even begin to identify the problem without knowing exactly what apks you copied and pasted, but due to cluttering and the bumping of this thread I'd say not to continue to help in THIS particular thread until it gets moved or you post another thread in general to help out.
Nothing against the OP at all.. I'm sure you can understand where I'm coming from. whenever a reply is posted in here it puts actual development threads further down

Everybody go look at this thread in general
This thread has been abandoned due to CM10 is already working quite well on this device.
Hi, people!
[Information/Disclaimer]
In this thread, I'll post my CyanogenMod 9 unofficial compiles with various cherry picks. I chose to make this thread in order not to offend anyone in the original CM9 thread by codeworkx. I haven't done much work here, the device tree with it's proprietary vendor files is done by codeworkx. The cherry picks are done by the CM9 development community, so please don't think that I'm trying to steal anyone's work or to seek fame. I merely compile this ROM with some added cherry picks, that's all.
The cherry picks I've chosen are pretty much the same as in fitsnugly's skankwitch ROMs. Some of them are not relevant to tables, I guess, but I also use the same repo to compile for my phone sometimes. Some of fitsnugly's picks won't merge cleanly, however, and because I just don't have the time to manually edit files in order to make them work, I simply left those out instead. Maybe there is a simple way to make them merge and I just don't know how to fix that. In that case, please let me hear your thoughts on that matter.
I'm only going to compile it for the P5110, as that's the one I'm using, and I don't have time to do three different builds each time. Sorry about that.
What's in the ROM?
The cherry picks in the latest version are:
Framework:
Fix don't interrupt ongoing PIN/PUK verification
frameworks: new effect sounds contributed by "Dennis Cleiren"
Give consistent names to properties controlling camera shutter sound
Fix wifi-sleep-policy
Volume adjust sound preference
Hide Adb Notification
libstagefright: Fix MPEG4 timestamp (using 32-bit unsigned)
Settings:
Add option to dissable camera shutter sound
Wifi: Allow to define the idle timeout (5 mn to 3 hours)
Power widget cleanup (WIP)
Processor.java: Fixes and Cleanups
Camera:
Camera: Use popup settings instead of knobs
Camera: add burst open mode (up to 20 shots)
Calculator:
Calculator: remove a lot of unused stuff and made the code cleaner
Add buttons to allow horizontal movement
DeskClock:
Hide Buttons completly during fullscreen do this to prevent burn in on OLED devixes and also to get a cleaner look.
Trebuchet:
Preferences: Infinite/Loop homescreen scrolling
LatinIME:
Option to reverse volume key logic on cursor control
LatinIME: add smileys to return/send keystyle
Dalvik:
Switched code to blx <reg>
Other:
ActivityManagerService: stay away from zombie content providers
Download:

hi,
Thx a lot
Slight delay
Sorry it's taking long. I was at work yesterday, and I'm currently compiling. Made a mistake that made the build fail. Once that's done, I'll upload it to Dropbox and let people here have the link. That should work for most people.
New mirror
Moved this to Dropbox now. New version as well. When commits are merged, I'll of course remove them from the list.
Haven't tested this build yet, but it compiled cleanly. Make a nandroid backup first.
Hi,
Thank you very much for your diligence, mister zyonee :good:

Well, obviously Zelandonii cared.
And this "mod" is apparently not aimed at you then, so why even care to comment? It's a little like walking in to shops aimed at senior citizens and telling them that you're not interested in their products.
What's been shared here is the ROM I'm using myself, so uploading it for the community isn't such a big deal. And knowing from personal experience, many people download without posting, I merely update the zip in my dropbox for people who actually do want it.
Bottom line: I don't do this for fame, credits, etc., so I don't take offense if you choose to use some other ROM. That's the whole point of having different ROMs available.
So your point was .. what?

If that's the case, then your apology is accepted.
My avatar is of Stephen Root, in the movie "Office Space" as the character "Milton". It's very possible that others have this avatar too, seeing that I got it from somewhere too. I might actually change it someday, been using it for a long time already.

any help? where is it?
Happened on mine too, no idea why. The cherry pick was successful and the ROM was built without errors. Maybe it'll work in the next build. I'm a bit busy these days, but someday I'll update this.
