Screen distortion: is it normal? - ONE Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi folks, sorry in advance if the question is silly.
I noticed today playing (aa) that, in some points of the screen (center and lower middle) if I press a bit harder I can see the screen "distorting", as the liquid crystals create a little visual artifact. Obviously, removing the pression removes the problem.
Now the question: did you happen to notice the same behaviour? It's not really a big deal for me anyway since it's not a thing I noticed in everyday use (I own the phone since october).
But I'd like to know if this problem affects only me and, if so, if could be caused by the normal wear and tear. Oh, I treat my phone very carefully, it never fell obviously.
Thanks to everyone!

Squeaking noise at top of the screen ?

After the squeaking back cover of the Touch Dual, another noisy HTC unit ! At least my test unit it seems...has anyone else noticed that when you tap at the top of the screen, say the x box, when you let it go there is a noise of something coming unstuck/unglued ?
If you swipe your thumb from let to right applying some gentle pressure it is event more obvious. Anyone else or is my screen maybe not properly glued on...
I listened really closely, and the only sound I could detect was my oily finger coming off the screen! You may have a defective unit because I don't seem to detect the problem you are talking about. Hope this helps!
Yes, thanks, will need to take it back then, just my luck !
You did apply some moderate pressure didn't you ? It's particularly noticeable around the loudspeaker and camera openings. Or it maybe static I'm hearing, doubt it since I don't have the noise at the bottom of the screen.
GpsPasSion
i tried several times but there's no noise.
Maybe u should check it with HTC or the store where u got it?
I
I have the same problem. On the top of the screen only
Rather annoying isn't it ? I have it on the sides a bit too, it seems to be worse when the screen is hot. Possibly the joint between the "touch" screen and the frame.
I guess I'll take it back but I think the guys are going to look at me "sideways" over there ;-) It seems to me the quality of HTC phones has been going down a bit lately, prices stay high though. I wonder if all the Cruise devices aren't going to develop that problem over time...
Hi,
I've got a similar problem. It also happens when I firmly press X, but the noise comes from the back cover (the antenna-box ) and it's because the back cover (top, not the battery cover) is not stuck tight enough (left side, so right side if you're looking from the front). Annoying? Maybe. Deffective? Not really I'll live with it
i have the same issue with the screen, i have done about 20 minutes of "up close and personal" tapping, pushing, etc and it is definately the screen...
not so worrying right now, BUT if it is loose now, how will it be in a few months.
i had this same problem when buying a Nokia a while back, I went through 4 of them sitting in the store and they all had the same problem, so i gave up and bought a different phone.
i wonder how Devicewire will handle this? as i really dont want to, nor can i be without the phone for too long, but obviously i dont want a faulty unit.
Devicewire if you are listening out there can you advise?
So it seems there are a few of us with that issue, on mine it definitely comes from the front part, not the back. I think I'll take it back and try another one, if it has the same problem I'll pass on the Cruise and get a refund, it really isn't very acceptable to have that type of problem on a €500+ device ! I don't remember reading about any such problems with the Touch or Touch Dual, HTC must have skimped on the glue this time around!
I have triesd to reproduce the screen problems, but I do hear anything at all.
Overall I really like the device, notwithstanding the slightly slow graphics when watching video (although MUCH better than my old Samsung SCH-i730).

I have it too. I noticed it after putting on the screenprotecor...and i'm suspecting it has somthing to to with it. The protector is really stiff so it may just be it making that noise....in my case at least...
That might come into play I guess, but mine really had a problem, I took it back to the shop and I had a hard time getting the guys to acknowledge it, but one of them had his own Cruise and when I pressed on the side there was no squeaking at all so that sealed the deal. Unfortunately they had no spare unit so I had to settle for a voucher...
I too have been experiencing the same from the top of the screen after long use It´s a pain, as I am really happy with the Polaris but for the money you´d expect better. I removed the screen protector to see if that was the problem but the sound is still there. It only goes away after the screen has been off for a while.
I have spoken to the shop where I bought it but they said I should get in touch with HTC, however if a lot of devices have the same problem hardly seems worth sending it away....
Anyone else have the same problem???

I Have the same problem but it comes from the screen protector, cuz I get some air between the screen and the protect.
OK... but the problem I have is definately not related to the screen protector as it´s still there without it.
No squeaks at all on the Orbit 2 - I wonder if it's confined to the TC case?
I've got the same squeeking thing with the screen, but it really isn't critical. What is really annoying is the knocking sound that the volume slider produces when shaked or just given a little finger punch. What do you guys say?Is yours fixed tight?
Same problem here. But it takes my mind off what the wife's saying when I'm on the phone to her!
Having the squeaking too, as most of you its still there without the protector
anybody get any noises from the d-pad? whenever i press left, it makes a double click (the standard click when you press in any direction, but after that, it seems to stick a little and click again as if it's sticking to something when i press down, then unsticks and makes a click when that happens). it's bugging the crap out of me and it only does it when i press left. if i press left hard, it stops doing it for 30 seconds or so.. it's not as if i spilled soda or anything on it and it is brand spanking new..

Scratching sound when pressing START menu bar

Hi
I have the irritating gluing sound on my HTC Cruise as well. Apparently it is only along the START menu bar and nowhere else. As long as you press anywhere along the START menu bar, you will hear the scratching sound like something is not glued properly and it is quite loud as well. It is most apparent after heavy 3G / WiFi usage and during charging where the top part of the Cruise can get quite warm.
I can confirm that it is not the screen protector as I have removed it and the sound is still there!
I tried to send it in for a look but the service person said that it is normal and is due to the construction of the unit and I could not get it exchanged or repaired.
Does anyone else experience this problem? I will feel better knowing that this is a design issue rather than a lemon set.
Ian
Hi Ian.
I have to admit, that I use mine heavily and although mine also gets warm after long periods of WiFi use, I havent had the build issue that you are experiencing.
But this thread seems to have a few people with the same issue...

Hi Biomehanika
thanks for the feedback. I guess this could be a problem with HTC Cruise sets and not O2 sets as their casings are different...
its quite a bummer .....

dark spot on the Screen!

Hello guys,
since some weeks i got something like a pressure mark / dark spot on my xda orbit2 screen.
I dont know what happend to the screen but i think it is some kind of a hardware defect.
The touch-function works without problems and the picture displays normal but on the mark it is a little bit more dark.
This size is about 0,7 centimeter x 2cm.
Does anybody know what it is or got the same thing?
Is there a way to fix it.. but I dont think so .
How is it with the warranty? (Damn, i dont want to send it back.. the last time it toke 6 weeks).
Thanks
Chris
I have the same problem. I believe it resulted from someone grabbing my phone, not knowing how to use a touch-screen, and pressing MUCH too hard. Doubt it's a hardware defect; if the screen is pressed too hard, like any other screen not covered by a layer of glass, it'll get that sort of mark.

[Q] Burnout pixel?

Hi Guys, Edit: Sorry the title should say: Burnt out pixel.
I'm sorry if this question has been asked before, the search function on XDA never works for me for some reason, and I can't find any help via Google.
I've noticed a small faint blue circle about 2 inches down from the top of my screen. It's at it's most visible when I have an app or webpage open with a white background. And, if I put the slightest bit of pressure on the screen, and I mean normal use type pressure i.e scrolling etc, the blue circle looks burned around the edges. Hardware isn't my strong point but this seems like a burnt out pixel of some kind. Has anyone had the same experience with their Nexus 5, or indeed any other device?
Just to be clear - The phone hasn't been dropped, physically burned or anything like that. I only noticed this last night but now I know it's there it's driving me mad. I'm not sure if I should contact Google for an RMA. They've already replaced a faulty nexus 5 for me once about a month ago, would they replace the device a second time? I'd assume they'd have to with the device being under warranty and all.
I really appreciate any help and advice. Thanks.
Problem solved. It's a dead pixel. Google are replacing the device.

Question Cracked Screen

So long story short, I went to bed last night with my pixel 7 pro on charge woke up this morning and the screen is cracked? has anyone else seen this, i know the older pixel 6 had an issue with screens cracking and looks like this might be introduced into the 7 too.

oh no, had the same with p6p. Google wont do anything, because they'll gonna say: user error!

yes already been on phone to them this morning and exactly what you say... user error, obvisouly this is a manufactoring fault where it is now costing me £250 for a replacement screen on top of the nearly £900 for the phone thats a month old.
This is my second pixel, first one was a long time ago, had many phones between and no issues but this has given me doubts now about the pixel 7. My main worry is replacing it and the screen going again.
First and foremost, I'm NOT challenging you with the crack.
But how on earth can a screen crack if it's lying still all night? What physics could be causing that?
I can imagine, however unlikely, that a big temperature drop could cause that, for example when you're camping or sleeping with the window open in extreme winter conditions or something like that.
I can also imagine that charging the phone might have to do with it, maybe there's a hw fault that made the phone charge to fast, heating it up in a cold room. stress on the screen, crack. Could it be a type of vibration that transmitted to the phone somehow? From a heater, air purifier, something like that?
Did you eliminate things like that?
Good questions, I have done exactly the same for the past month put phone on the dressing table plug it in and let it charge, this time however after noticing the crack I also noticed the charge was only at 72%, it had adaptive charing enabled and said it would be fully charged by 6:30 am but was up at 6am.
So no vibrations, no temapture changes (not enough to cause this) strange one, I just know the night sleep cost me £250 arrr just hope it never happens again.
As can see in photo the main crack goes from right to left and has web cracks too.
The photo is a bit blurry but it doesn't look like one crack to me, more like the glass is shattered. Strange...
Not calling you a liar, but that really does look like an impact which occurred at the most vulnerable part of the screen edge. No chance that you unknowingly may have accidently bumped the corner of the night stand when setting it down, or had something on your nightstand which may have gotten knocked over and nicked the screen? Basically, pointed force on a very small surface area. It looks very much like every iPhone screen my wife has shattered.
Could also be that the screen was accidently nicked without a noticeable crack but when the charger was put on the heat made the crack grow and spread, similar to a car windshield crack when the defroster is put on.
Or just plain faulty manufacturing...
Shattered screen means "something" caused it from the outside...or the inside!
If you didn't hit the screen somehow then maybe the battery swelled and internal pressure caused this? I say this because of the aforementioned charging anomaly.
I actually avoided the Pixel 6 Pro because of all the reports of this happening and figured the 7 Pro must be fixed. It's sad to see that may not be the case.
That said, yours definitely looks way more like an impact than the spontaneous cracking pictures I've seen. Those also almost all happened at the corners where the glass would be at its highest tension instead of near the center of the screen like yours plus yours has spread all over which means there was a lot of energy to dissipate. You're sure nothing could have happened to it?

That looks identical to what did for my S21 Ultra. Dropped and landed with an impact right on the edge of the screen in the center, with the crack looking very similar.
As others have said, I'm not saying you're being dishonest for a minute, but that really does look like impact damage to me.
