Galaxy s6 gap - Galaxy S6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I just got my s6 black 64gb. It's a pretty huge gap on lower right of the screen. Anyone else got this? I remember on the note 4 that Samsung ment that it was constructed like that. I think it's not good.

where was your phone manufactured? Mine was from Vietnam and no gaps

Mine does not have that gap.
RMA?

That's a manufacturing defect.

No gap here neither

Yeah got the same on mine , don't think it will cause issues but will collect grime . Thinking of swapping mine ! Feel like I'm being a bit picky though .

Yep finally bugged me too much . Had a chat with ghe good folks at cpw , replacement on the way . Considering the cost of these bad boys I expect at least 'apple esque ' attention to detail .

What's CPW?

Can't see it.

You're not picky. If you pay a phone for such a price, you deserve a phone with perfect condition

I don't think it's a manufacturing defect per se, if you look at the teardown of the s6, there's a screw that's right on at edge, and that edge only has it that close to the corner. They probably screw it on tightly compared to other ones. I have it as well, and looked at possible explanations and that's the only thing I can think of. It is irksome though, but if you want to get it replaced go ahead, just know that you're also risking the tint issue as well.

According to Samsung the gap is normal. On page 138(?) of the owners manual (at the end of trouble shooting section) it states that a gap may appear due to shifting of components with use. Metal expands/contracts more than glass so I wouldn't be too worried but you might want to take extra care around water.
Good luck.

So after you exchange it was it good one this time no gap

I bought an unlocked international SM-G920F. First one had gaps on the back glass. replacement has gaps on front and gap and the bottom front is very noticeable. Not as big as a Galaxy Note 4 gap where you could slide a business card through the gap, but defiantly noticeable on a white phone. At this point tired of exchanging phones. With a case don't notice. I don't expect to keep the phone for long anyways with the Fall phone lineup coming up

Is Gap between frame and screen Normal ? I have it too but not that huge and it's visible under direct light and at some angles,,, the gap is at the lower right corner beside the antenna line ...

Dust under glass? anyone else have this problem?

picked up 2 Nexus S on release day, went home happy. Preoccupied with work, so I only powered them up last night.
To my Surprise, both phones have dust under the glass! WTF Samsung? Removed the plastic sheet on the front to make sure, and yes, it's under the glass.
on one phone the dust was smack in the middle, while on the other phone it was a little left of the middle.
Can't be seen on a dark screen, but once you switch to a white background like the web or texting you can see it.
I know I am probably being OCD and anal about this, but heck I paid over $1k for both phones out of contract.
Went back to BestBuy and returned them promply, of course now they are sold out, and I have to wait for the next shipment.
Just wondering if others have similar experiences? BTW, I also had a Galaxy Tab and before returned it, it also had some dust specs under the glass...
I also own an HD2 and G2, seems HTC is better at QC.
Shame, really want this phone but WTF samsung?
Nope you sure its under the glass?

No dust under the screen here.
It seems that this first batch of phones is a rather mixed bag; some have defects and others are fine. It was a good idea to return them, hopefully your replacements will be free of issues.
My first S had a little speck of something. I initially thought it was a dead pixel, but I could see it when the screen was off also so I assumed it was dust. I returned it and checked the next one out before I left the store and it seems to be good.

100% sure, remove the screen protectors on both of them and rubbed the area where it was, thought it was a dead pixel too, but no it was fine on a dark background, but on a white background could see it easily.
sold out at my local bb, but still available online might go that route.
just wanted to see other people's experiences or maybe they didnt notice yet, lol.

this happen when you have 2 layers for the screen. the internal part and the upper part where you touch.
there is an advantage for this. if god forbid you dropped and broke the screen, only the upper part gets replaced. and wouldnt cost you much to do so " and you wont get another screen with dead pixel and being OCD whatever the new screen is good or not. because the actuall inner screen isnt touched.
the bad thing about is what you said. dust can enter in the middle between both layers of the screen.
even if you get a new nexus S without dust under the screen, if you leave it in the open area with sun and wind always hitting it, you will get a dust somehow inside as well. so make sure your phone is in a pocket most of the time.
the only phone i remember right now that had both layers of the screens touched as 1 part is the iphone 2G and the iphone 4 " i am sure there are others but i dont know "
this result to no dust under the screen no matter what " unless the dust came from factory while they were attaching both screens on top of each other and glue them "
but if you break your screen in the iphone 4.... god help you.
Yeah, after about a week and couple of days of usage, I've got my first spec of dust in the top left area of the screen. Really, it's nothing noticeable but I do have some sort of OCD with my phone (god help me if I get a visible scratch on the screen).
I don't think it's really worth taking it back to get it changed as this Nexus S I have currently has no problems whatsoever, I don't even have the pink or yellow screen issue with this one. I think I'm just gonna have to live with that one spec of dust for now...
I think this may be just bad QC. I looked at ifixit taking apart the NS. Basically they said the trickiest part to the disassembly was the screen, and they had to use a heat gun to soften the glue just to separate the 2 screens. So dust entering between those 2 screens would be pretty difficult unless the glue wasn't properly applied from the assembly line.
Sent from my Nexus S
I don't have dust under my Nexus S screen... but I do have dust under my front facing camera! And its only recently just got there - I remember playing around with it extensively when I first got it 6 months ago and the camera was really clear and sharp.
Now it is all fuzzy and white haze. And I can see all the dust particles on the underside of the glass. Annoying!
Anyone know if there's an easy way to clean it? Or is it a case of back to Samsung?

Galaxy S7 Edge 935F , GAP Problem , Talked to Samsung.

Hey folks ,
My newly purchased Galaxy S7 Edge had the Gap issue , i could basically slide a paper through the gap between the edge screen and the frame on both the left and the right sides. Some people have it on top or bottom. A huge number of people have it and most don't realize it. If you do tho , fear not ;
We had a chat with Samsung Australia. The edge gap problem seems to be present in their reference device as well. Plus i've been told by the Samsung Tech Support that the gap is normal. My device has gaps on both left and right edges. I can slide a thin paper inside. I can confirm that even with the gap the device is indeed waterproof. Mine didn't have any issues besides the fact that dust gets in and out of the phone which sorta betrays the purpose of an IP68 certification. On the other hand , we still don't know if this is a major problem. The Samsung rep that helped me through this issue documented our conversation and will be showing that to his superiors to be examined. Hopefully we'll get an official statement addressing this soon.
I'll be posting the images to our conversation below.

Regular papers don't go in really thin ones do , did you try something like rizla ?
I would struggle to get anything under to be honest.
There is no gap on mine
Has this S7 thigh gap issue been resolved?
It's one of the few times that a "thigh" gap is not welcome.

Physical Drop & Scratch Resistance Report

Hi everyone,
The Essential company claims that the phone is very drop and scratch resistant thanks to the premium materials used in the phone, but sadly there are no official Essential drop tests available anywhere which is mainly due to all the problems Essential seems to be having with supplies and rolling out their first manufactured devices. There are also some reports surfacing from the very early adopters of the phone of some scuffs and scratches which never go beyond a mere mention.
I thought I would start this thread where people who have the phone can report about how the phone handles inadvertent drops and scratches and scuffs to the screen and the ceramic back. When posting, please also include a little bit of explanation as to how it happened and if possible a picture of the supposed damages to the phone.
Cheers.
dropped mine twice. 2 nicks in screen, but ceramic and titanium are fine.

I watched the video. Mous of 7 or better on the ceramic. The finish in the titanium can be damaged but noting like aluminum.
Forget about bending the phone. The phone is pretty tough. A case will protect th cosmetics.
https://www.cnet.com/videos/we-destroyed-the-essential-phone/
Seems like this will be a very durable device.
Ya for what its worth it is way way way better than any aluminum phone would do. This they got right but its the software and camera that hold it back

My only complaint is the camera software.
Other than that, I don't have any issues.
I would like a case, but only for cosmetics.
Know what really does it for me? Stock Android is a bit too stock also. I have gotten really used to how the pixel works and really like it with all it's slight tweaks to stock.
The cameras sensors are still too small to be on the level of the the other flagships too. Not only software. The Google camera does pretty well though

I use Nova, so Android is never really stock for me.
I use Nova Launcher because I can restore my device layout on any device.
As far as the camera, I'm not that concerned about the quality.
For me it's a case of not having a better camera and just getting the picture is important.
If I really wanted a good photo, I'd use one of my"real" cameras.

I've dropped this phone in 1 week more than I've dropped my Pixel XL in the past 3 months, just because of how slippery the little bugger is. No damage as a result of dropping it, though.
I do have some very light scratches on the ceramic back, from sliding across my desk or countertop at home, which I was *not* expecting. Both the top, by the mod indentation holes, and at the bottom left, too. I know they aren't from dropping it, as every time it's fallen, it's landed on its side or a corner, never flat on its back.

It is definitely not the phone for everyone. Build quality is for everyone.
There are some software shortcomings. I think they can sort those out.
I sold my 6P. SO I have the Essential for the long haul.
I have my replacement phone arriving today. I have gone through 2 glass screen protectors that due to the fit of them (not sticking to the edges) I have a nick in the glass at the top left and the screen is completely shattered on the bottom left, I can see gold metal under it and it has a crack running diagonally from left to right from the bottom left. I know I never dropped this phone from more than 2 feet high. I also have the scratches on the ceramic back near the mods ports. I've only used my 360 a couple of times. I'm definitely getting a case and moving to a plastic wet install screen protector.
I haven't dropped this phone yet, but I have several hairline scratches on the back ceramic. I guess I'm around a lot of minerals or dust particles that are > 8 hardness, which I find interesting.
Also on the glass I notice a patch of hairline scratches. I'm usually real careful about my phones (of course, everyone says this) but I think that's more of Corning's fault this time around. They're really small but knowing they're there bothers me. I wish I could buff them out. I'll be getting a screen protector I guess.

Oh wow, those are cool
My back panel got scratched (micro scratches) that's so weird. Got ceramic Xiaomi mi2 and it was perfectly strong....not like this one.
I dropped mine screen facing the floor from about 4 feet. Screen survived, minor scratches. Not a single crack. I didn't expect the screen to survive.
-Nav
I have a step from main floor to foyer. Placed my phone near the edge and my dog pushed it down to tiles. Face down smashed!
2 line of scratches at the bottom bezel.
small dings on top left and bottom left corner display.
Sigh... thought it would survive...

Just got the PH-1 pure white, what a disappointment!

The disappointment I think more because I was SO looking forward to getting it, I was literally counting the hours, and then when I opened the box I saw little chips off the frame and a gap between screen and frame, I was gutted, I was almost desperate enough to just keep the phone, as getting a replacement through Amazon is a pain (if you are in South Africa at least). But decided to get the replacement. so back to waiting for a few more days... just really peeved at the Quality control, especially as the build quality is one of the main reasons I selected the PH-1...
see photos below. was I being too critical?

I have a pure white one too and although I don't have too many issues with the frame like you, I do have a gap around the front camera which is causing light-bleed noticeable when it's dark. I (maybe stupidly) have ordered the halo grey version from Amazon US - hope it doesn't have the same issues.
let me know if the halo grey one is any better.

Are you certain that this is not just the sealant glue that is used to mount the screen assembly to the frame? I noticed that the glue, which is black, appears on every single PH-1.

I have a white as well. With similar I'd call micro-ridges along where the white material meets the glass. It's hard to see but once you see it you can't stop seeing them.
But what's worse is I'm having stains on the white material which don't seem to be able to wash off with a damp cloth. Extremely annoying.

Anyone have issue where adhesive residue is permanent where you peel off IMEI sticker on the back? I can tell that a sticker has been there, no matter how many times I try cleaning it.

No, you are not. I would have replaced my phone too. I stayed in Singapore and have replaced my phone twice, I. E. Shipped 3 times. Took me more than 3 months to properly own my Essential Phone.
However for me, nothing was wrong with all the Essential Phones I got.. Were just some stupid accidents. I was, in fact, very very impressed with Amazon's service. When you are in Asia, you will understand how amazing Amazon is.
My current Essential Phone is the white one. Wanted to add that my one came in perfect condition. Not to brag but just so if someone who wants to buy comes in, he knows that not all Essential Phones are bad.
My replacement arrived today and its 100%, I'm SO chuffed, its gorgeous. I was really worried, as the replacement process though not arduous isn't easy (I'm in South Africa). Am so glad I didn't settle for the 1st one, as this one is great... no gaps or chips... now just to not drop it before my case arrives.

Phone doesnt unfold flat, or completely.

Hey guys so I bought my z fold 2 about a month ago on ebay. I got a pretty good deal on a Verizon variant because they unlock after 60 days. Well today I was playing with my phone and I realized that mine doesn't open up completely flat. There's a slight angle to it. I'm too scared to try trying to give it a little force to open all the way because I dont want to break something. I guess I can take it in to get repaired but it doesn't really affect it functionally. It just messes with my ocd bad that it's not completely flat when opened. It's just a slight angle you wouldnt even notice it unless you looked for it but I know it does indeed not open all the way because my mother in law and father in law both have the z fold 2 and theirs opens flat unlike mine.
Also I've had the most expensive spigen case on it since day 1 and I've been extremely careful to keep it clean and free of dirt and stuff so I'm not sure exactly what it is going on. My main concern is since I bought it on ebay I won't be able to use the warranty to get it fixed right? Or will I be able to. And if anyone has any ideas maybe I can fix it I'm open to suggestions. Thanks guys.

The angle you are mentioning is from the inside or outside after unfolding?
Mine is flat from the inside but when u put it on a desk both sides will not touch the table.
My screen isn't flat. It has a slight angle to it. Like say if the left half is flat. The right half curves upwards just slightly. Like I said it doesnt affect it functionaly but it kills my ocd knowing it should be straight.
So I was messing with my phone right now and I go to unfold it and it like snapped open completely. There's no angle anymore. It's flat. Idk what happened or what was wrong with it or what fixed it or if the problem will come back but I thought I'd let you guys know.

I've never heard of that. Are you sure it's not the case? If you remove case does it still not open all the way flat?

It doesn't do it anymore but yes when it was doing it even without the case it would not open all the way
Did you ever resolve this? I've had the same issue with my fold 3. I believe it opened 180 degrees when I first got it a fee weeks ago. Then I noticed one day that it only opens to about 175 now. Everything works, but it is annoying
I'm getting the same issue not sure what it is but I have a theory. I just came from outside where it is cold(Winter) then when I come into my home to unfold my zfold2, It wouldn't open all the way. By any chance was it winter in your area when this occurred?
Gotta replace your whole folding screen
Hi there! A guy on Reddit said that he managed to fix it using his vacuum cleaner. He kept on vacuuming the hinge several times a day for a week, and he finally managed to make it open 180ยบ flat again. My wife has this same issue. I'm gonna try this.
Anyway, I feel like this foldable smartphones are still in "beta". There are too many issues with the screen (bubbles, vivid pixels, strange lines, dust inside the hinge mechanism...). And Samsung's service is absolutely poor. Would never recommend the Z Flip, even though it's a fast phone with nice cameras.
Fold the phone, then carefully slide a piece of a sticky note in the gap between the hinge and the front/rear Cover an move slowly towards the top of the phone. You may have to repeat this process several times until all dust, hair and other unwanted stuff comes out. Tested working on Z Fold2, where it is slightly easier due to the bigger gap and the Fold3. Both phones fully unfold again.
I keep doing this once in a while to keep the phones in this condition
i have the same issue as well, if you google it ... it seems to be quite a common issue .. I tried to use those can air blowers .. which didn't really help and my inner screen starts flicking after a few days
Sent the phone back to samsung and requested for them to clean the hinge, but was told I need to replace the entire hinge for about 550 USD.
