I just purchased an S6 for my wife at a Verizon store in my neighborhood. When they brought it out, the box was kind of dinged up, but I thought nothing of it. The thing that bothered me is that the box had no security sticker or any other seal of any kind on it. The sleeve came off and the box came wide open without any cutting or removing of a seal/sticker. Is that normal? I've been reading about the security stickers and how some units have two stickers on them (suggesting that the first was cut and a second was applied).
In any event, the phone was in great condition. There was a small defect in the aluminum on the back of the phone (looked like it had been gouged out when someone was removing the back glass), but it was so minor that I kept the phone.
Also, does anyone have a Moto X (2013)? For whatever reason, the colors on the Moto X (when displaying the same picture), are more vibrant, with higher contrast and richer tone. I tried all four color settings on the S6, but I couldn't get a match. I'm getting paranoid that I got one of the "washed out" screens on the S6.
Mine was preordered and shipped direct from Verizon and did not have any security stickers. Basically just the logo'd cardboard wrap around the two halved boxes and thats it.

I didn't notice any stickers either. I took the sleeve off the box, and then the top popped right off.

No we don't have sealed boxes
AT&T S6 boxes are the same.
I was kind of shocked when it opened right up after removing the sleeve.

Hey,
just got the 16GB from tesco.
When I opened it, (factory sealed box), the case was not clipped all the way on, and the top edge was open a bit. I opened it properly, from the bottom as instructed. Sim car already in, so clipped case on.
Basically there is 1mm gap, right next to the headphone jack and microphone on top of the phone. So, I took case off and had a look. The body has a space for an extra clip next to microphone, but the back case misses this one out (presumably to make room for rubber bit on microphone). I had a look at the pink case in the box, this also misses this clip.
Do other peoples phones case sit tight and flush on the top edge? or is my phone maybe wonky!! I worried the numpty who put the tesco sim in has distorted the chasis, or I just have been unlucky.. Its pretty minor, but its dust access so would prefer a tight fit!
FYI, there stock systems are screwed for xmas. Says out of stock everywhere, including when you phone up the store. I went to a tesco Extra, it had lots and lots in stock. Same price as Tesco direct. So, if you still want one for £129, 16GB. Get to your nearest tesco extra, you may well get one if they have a phoneshop instore.

The gap is there to allow leverage to get the back cover off. It's annoying that dust can get caught there but it would be a nightmare to remove it if there were no gap. I've had four now from various Tesco stores and they all have this gap, so no need to worry. Just clean out the dust now and again.
I had one which shipped with the case split open like you describe when I first opened it (also 16GB from Tesco).
That phone had a creaky back case - particularly noticeable applying slight pressure to the corner near the speaker. On looking at it I could see the clip on the front of the phone (not the back) was slightly too large, and so you wouldn't be able to fix it with a new back.
Phone went back as it also had a dead pixel in middle of the screen.
I think that the small plastic clips on the front part of the phone can be damaged by not taking the rear of the phone off carefully enough. If they are damaged your phone will always have a loose back, so best not to remove the back too often.
Yes mine is the same and annoyingly someone has used this gap to try and remove the backplate causing it to split at the microphone opening. (2nd hand phone).
So I suggest always removing the backplate from the microUSB end as these are not the sturdiest of backplates.

The phones from Tesco include a one page leaflet telling you to put your thumb on the moto logo on the rear and peel it up from the USB, definitely not from the top.
Seeing how flimsy the back is I personally crack open the bottom at the micro USB and then run my fingernail around the gap to pop the back off all the way. The hardest bit to release is the corner above the buttons, which is also where the rear of the case is weakest.

yea this is how I remove mine. The gap at the top is definitely not there to aid removal of the back. You start from the bottom like you say,
I actually swapped the black back for the pink one included. it fits much much tighter at the top so I think the back can be distorted on poor removal. The downside is I now have a pink phone until I get a replacement
cheers for the responses guys. Good to know its not a problem with my phone as such, just a design quirk..
just got a 16 GB XT1032 from US and i have this same kind of gap in between the body parts on the right side of the audio jack, when the display is facing ground. i freaked out when i found this out. i really expected perfect finishing from motorola.
did someone figure out why is this werid 1mm gap is there or some way to fix it?
Hi guys! I just bought my Moto G from Romania, 16 gb dual sim. Well, today I notice a tiny gap at the right side of the screen, between screen and plastic body. Did anyone else had something similar? The phone it's just great, but I'm a little worried because maybe dust can enter under the screen. I did'nt dropped or something, I just noticed today in the bright light. Thank you
There's no gap in mine. Are you guys making sure that your back cover is completely "snapped" on on all of its sides?

Hi,
I too have this problem.

Hello XDA friends,
I have been wanting a Verizon or AT&T Note Pro 12.2 for a while -- I have a personal vendetta against Exynos and at this point can't do the wifi only model.
So, I went on Ebay and found one for $575, got it two days ago.
Issues:
1. Light bleed, holy mother sweet mary, light bleed. Top, bottom everywhere, its like looking at a cloudy sky.
2. The back has flex; a gentle touch flexes the fake leather back inwards, and its very noticeable. Its gotten to the point where the back cover is not actually perfectly smooth and has very tiny "lumps" inwards.
3. When the back flexes inwards, there seems to be a sharp point inside the tablet that pushes against the inside of the display itself; I pick it up with left hand, and there is a little "bubble wave" thing that the screen does on the top left hand side, kinda like when you poke an old LCD with your finger.
Thats really it... other than that it works. Should I RMA it to Samsung and have them repair, or should I return to ebay seller via a case (Seller is unresponsive, sadly)? Or is everyones Note Pro like this?
Thank you very much!
I noticed that flex right away. Same thing happens on mine, along with the LCD distortion.
I wish they would make it in a solid metal piece (ala iPad) instead of plastic.
If its noticeably worse than something like a display model, I'd lean towards a return as defect. Or, since it's a carrier branded device, you could probably get support from them. At least if you have an active account.
I see no posts about this with the S6, so I am guessing it's rare. I went to take a pic this morning and noticed a dark spot showing up on the "view finder" (2 dark spots, as I later learned). I wiped the glass over the rear lens to make sure it was clean, but that didn't help. Sure enough, I have dust under the glass. I tried blowing it out with compressed air to no avail. I contemplated getting a replacement piece of glass for $6 on eBay and just removing and cleaning it myself, but nahhhh. I am on day 82 of my "purchase", which was through Costco so it has 90 day no-hassle replacement/return, and was actually a free early upgrade promotion to a Droid Turbo that turned into an S6 after 2 bad Turbos (long story). Anyway, I just decided to replace it with a new S6 which luckily is still on OC3 so I can root and rom it (isn't the newest Verizon S6 firmware still not rooted?). As a bonus, the screen's color conformity on this S6 is definitely better than my last one. I could see green and pink hues on a white image pretty easily, but I can't really see green and pink hues at all with the new S6. Added bonus: 75 fewer days of usage on the battery.
Anyway, just wondering if anyone else has had this problem. For what it's worth, my old S6 camera glass was never quite right - one edge was higher than the rest, like it was tilted. With a couple cases that were supposed to protect the camera glass, mine still rubbed because it protruded out farther than the case. So I'm guessing dust got in due to an improperly installed piece of glass, but I was too lazy to try and fix it. Thank you, Costco, for your 3rd party cellular kiosk and 90 day replacement warranty!
Just had my Pixel 2 all black delivered. The outer box was pretty banged up so I was paying attention as I opened it. The plastic bag the actual phone box was in, was open on one end. The edge was not finished but ragged as though it had been cut open with scissors. The screen wrapper looked handled and there is dust on the screen. The booklet seal looks handled and the tabs holding the cord are not new looking.
Has anybody else experienced this?
I get that the warranty is the same. The phone doesn't appear damaged in any way. But for a flagship device, I was expecting to be the first one to handle it.
Hi I got my U12+ just last friday. It wasn't until a couple of days later that I noticed what look like dirty smudges on the back of the phone, and they won't come off. At some angles the phone looks beautifully shiney, but at a few angles, these smudges really show up, some around the camera, around most edges, and a strange 1cm square to the bottom-right of the c (i.e near the htc logo).
I bought the phone from a main street retailer; the box was shrink-wrapped, everything inside it pristine, earphones all unopened, etc, so it does not seem to have been tampered with.
So I wonder if this is just some sloppy manufacturing? I've got two photos, one where I have highlighted with a yellow line the areas that I'm talking about. (And the red line is a reflection of my htc 10 I took the photo with; sorry about the spotlight reflection.) The smudges look more obvious when holding the phone (i.e worse than I can show in the photo).
The more I look at it, the more it makes me think this is from excess glue or sealant around the camera area; and along the sides, looks like it's where they've wiped extra glue off when they glued the back? The weirdest bit is the square mark.
I feel I'm being really fussy and would not return it just because of this (and because I'm in New Zealand, where probably very few htc are ever sold, I'd probably be in for a world of pain doing a return). But I'd like to remove the marks if possible.
Has anyone seen anything similar? Or know how to remove marks like this?
What can I use to clean the back? All the talk about this phone says 'glass front and back', but neither of them feels like glass. The back feels (and sounds, if you tap it with a fingernail) like a hard polymer/plastic; is that what it is?
Thanks!

I've kept my back protected with ultra-clear PhantomSkinz so I wouldn't know. And it still looks absolutely gorgeous.

Thanks - in fact I ordered one of these phantomskinz 2 days ago after I saw your positive reviews about it!! So I am holding you responsible
However, the smudges on my phone were already there, 'out of the box', so no chance to protect it when it started out that way...
I am hoping that this skin is going to be such a nice body hugging layer that it hides some of these blemishes.

How long have you owned it? If it's before 30 days I would return it. That is not normal.
I wonder if the smudges are on the inside. Maybe from when it was assembled.

Yes I am tempted to... but as mentioned in my original post, I'm at the end of the world here, I know the store does not have any more in stock... so to return it could be a right P.I.T.A. I can't be without a phone while I wait for a replacement.
I guess I'll go talk to them tomorrow.
What about the material the back is made out of? (I.e as I mentioned, it does not feel like glass to me; more like a polymer.)
If it does feel like glass to others, then I wonder if I got an early run or prototype version where instead of glass they used plastic (which could explain the marking).
Well this is very embarrassing. I'd tried various things to clean the smudges, but not used any chemicals (which is why I was wondering what it is made of).
I showed it to a workmate - without saying a word she picked up some magic cloth from the photocopier, wiped my phone... marks gone.
What the....?
I'll go back to the rock I obviously deserve to live under.

It is definitely made of gorilla glass 3...maybe that's why it feels different. Front and back are gorilla glass 3. And if it would be plastic or so, it would be different. If you can scratch it with your finger nails or so, you will know it ?

Looks like the glass coating problem that I had with the U11. Contacted customer support, and they offered me a replacement device. Started off with the sapphire blue, exchanged for a solar red.
Luckily have had no such problems with my translucent blue U12 yet.
