hey everyone, i have cracked the top of my screen of my orbit the problem is that i had it pin protected and put it in wrong too many times, the keypad shows up, so i am guessing its asking me to type something, dose anyone know what this is, if i can unlock my phone i can read my text messages as the bottom of the screen still functions. I have not changed the boot or anything from the stuff the o2 shipped with it
thanks in advance
After too many pin entry attempts, the phones usually ask for a PUK code. But be careful, after too many PUK entry attempts your SIM is going to stay locked for good.
I havn't used the phone in a long time, and I'm trying to sell it.
So I put my SIM Card in to delete everything on it, and it asked for a Phone Lock password. I don't remember setting a password. So how do I get past this?
Is there some sort of hard reset? Or a default code?
Thanks in advance.
Have tried 50 times and I don't get a "forgot pattern" button! Any ideas? I have my google credentials and my pin just forgot the damn pattern...I'm rooted etc would rather the phone just ask me my password...[i.e. not looking for ADB hacks]
It can't just ask you a password. If you don't know the pattern then flash the factory image in fastboot and start over. You're probably going to lose everything on the phone because I bet the bootloader is locked too
Its supposed to ask for your google credentials:

Can't unlock your Android device
If you’ve made too many pattern attempts or forgotten your PIN or password, you can try other methods to unlock your Android device.
Sign in to your Google Account
For pattern passcodes only
If you set up a pattern passcode and made multiple attempts to unlock your device, you can touch Forgot Pattern and be prompted to enter your Google Account username and password. This will take you to the Security options in the main Settings menu, where you can reset your device’s password.

Anyways, tried Android Device Manager and it works great, just choose LOCK and you can enter a new pin. But definately a bug as it should ask you as their own FAQ says...
And my bootloader is unlocked but hey, as I said I preferred not to delete stuff with ADB if I could avoid it.

That page appears to not apply to the Nexus 5, it's not in the list for factory reset.
The OP probably just stole the Nexus 5 from some hapless idiot and you guys are falling over yourselves trying to help him access it.

If you're an optimist.
Sent from my Nexus 5 using xda app-developers app
the OP (me) just happened to set pattern lock to try it out after using the same pin for years on every phone I have had, and promptly forgot it.
And I specifically said I was not looking for ADB commands to unlock it, which are freely available already...
Google doesn't have a Nexus 5 help page, they just have a Nexus devices help page. If the 'Forgot Pattern' button doesn't apply to a Nexus 5 they should say so...
And as I said in my second post I was able to unlock the phone using Device Manager (well, to set it back to pin unlock anyways, which then let me unlock it).
But let me sum up...
tl;dr
I somehow locked my SIM and have no idea how I did it and therefore how to unlock it. Thought I was setting up a 4 digit pin, and upon entry it is asking for 8 digits. I have no idea what the PUK code is supposed to be and used up a couple guesses just in case it was the obvious; have 3 tries left before I imagine I'm locked out permanently...?
Any way around this to clear PW or some other work around?

You can see your PUK code in your my verizon account. Also it tells you the default SIM pin, 1111. Just log in and press manage my device on the main screen, and its over on the right under "About my device"
Didn't realize I hadn't yet replied though I thanked you. Found it and issue is resolved. Much appreciated!
hi i recently purchased this j3 from a friend and it worked fine all i had to do was have it unlocked to work with my carrier this is where everything went haywire . after several attempts i finally received the unlock code and then when i put my sim card in it said too many attempts and needed a puk number i called my carrier and got it and entered it and didnt work i thought maybe hard reseting the phone would reset the amount of times ur allowed to enter this number i was wrong. so after some frustration i hard reset the phone a few times and tried every option that can be done in that menu now my phone wont even connect to wifi at the beginning of set up because it needs to verify my identity thru google account which that info i dont have this has become a horrible cycle for me and would apreciate any help or advice with this issue if u could email me this might be better my email is [email protected]
