Hey guys.
So, I'm not using my Nexus 5 anymore, but I would like to give a shot to fixing it.
It fell down the toilet so the buttons on the side are wrecked. The screen is not broken however.
If I plug it into the charger, it displays a red LED. If I press the power button it vibrates, but displays nothing.
Do you guys have any idea of what might cause this problem? Is the screen the problem?
Thanks.
I think the problem is the fact that it fell in the toilet. But that's just my humble, unprofessional opinion.
Why did you plug it in the charger? Disconnect the battery first
It's a goner. Time for a new phone.

Has anyone had a problem with their nexus 5 where the screen would randomly start pressing things? It usually happens multiple times and is very erratic. Contacted Google and will send back for a replacement just wondering if anyone else is having this issue.
Yap, me too.
Had it a while back but it seems to have stopped.

Never anything like that but what I have done a few times is my palm touches the bottom right of the screen when I reach for the top left corner while right handing it. Coming from an iPhone so I guess it took a bit to get used to the larger screen
I requested for a replacement to Google Play this morning. They send it this evening. I should
get my replacement early next week. Good service I would say.
I'm glad I'm not going crazy! This is happening to me too! Is there any way to resolve this without having to go through the RMA process?
Only While Charging
I'm getting some erratic touch behavior, but only when the phone is charging. I take it off the charger and it seems fine.
I'm not getting total phantom behavior, but when I swipe from home screen to home screen, sometimes an app will get activated. Same with pulling down the notification area.
It makes me think there's a charge leaking through to the display components somehow.
I'm going to give it a week and then RMA it if it doesn't go away.
I have it too
I have it too but only when I connect my USB to the computer...
It's sucks cos I'm an app developer...
Is there any fix for that?

Sounds like a dodgy USB cable or port.
Same issues with my Nexus 4
I notice my issue is mostly when my phone is charging or when I'm using my mobile hotspot. Tends to get extra warm when im using both. Which leads me to believe its an overheating issue (the heat is throwing off the digitizer causing it to maybe think its being touched?) Is anyone else noticing the same?
Yes, but only while on wireless charger and even then only sometimes.
I take it off, push power button twice and it's gone.
I'm also experiencing this if my Nexus 5 is charging using the original Wall charger and cable.
Still no fix for this? Really annoying, I need to unplug my phone to the charger so that I can use it again normally
Same issue here
https://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=62748
This usually happens when you use some other charger/usb cable than the original one

This also sometimes happens when you have wet or moist fingers

I'm using original cable and wall charger. I also don't have wet finger or hand when experiencing this issue

I also have the same problem only when otg or pic is connected through usb
My N7 4.4.2 Not Rooted has been playing up lately. For the 2nd time in 3 days, I picked it up and it wouldnt respond. I could hear the screenshot being taken so the phone was on but the screen was black. It vibrates after using the power button and it finally boots up again. The phone has been perfect for about a month and this error only started recently.

Do a factory reset. Keep in mind that this will wipe your internal storage so be sure to back up and data, photos, etc. before hand. If that doesn't fix it then flash the factory image over. As to how, refer to this thread.
Your problem should be fixed after the Factory Reset though. Good Luck!
Thanks. I was hoping it wouldn't come to this but oh well. Is there a cause for this?

Were are talking about the N5 right?. I had this issue with my G2X a couple years ago. It turns out that after I took it apart the flex cable looked like at had been torn a tad bit. This sounds like a flex cable problem. Software could be the issue and a factory reset may help. However in my experience that's usually a flex cable or pop connection. Send it in if the reset does not work. Don't bother trying to do this yourself. It may be the front panel flex cable. Or the pop connection of the main board. When these cables are made, they are literally thrown into barrels and sent to The front panel assembly line. So chances are. One of these flex cables suffered some damage. Same goes with the tiny connection on the main board. These tiny pieces are put on one by one. I think robots do it. The device turned on for their tests. But the long run? ...Well you get the point.

Well? did the factory reset work? I have this issue and it's driving me nuts!!!! I read somewhere that squeezing the case helps, and indeed this seems to work something, to it looks like hardware issue to me
black screen nexus 5
I was totally desperate with this random black screen. I tried everything including change of flex cable and also screen, but the same random black screen
I changed the 2 years old battery with a new one and.... ooff... this resolved my problem .no black screen anymore
I hope that, with this solution, I give You another direction of thinking about what is causing this annoying problem
I bought a damaged nexus 5 off of kijiji that had a shattered screen. I bought the phone to fix, but realized that the phone does not power on at all. There is no response from the phone at all. No charging LED, no vibration, or any other signs of life.
The phone came with the box and charger so i tried leaving it on charge for a few hours hoping that it was just the battery that went dead. Unfortunately this was not the case and the phone still doesnt turn on. I popped open the back cover looking for any visible damage on the phone, but it doesnt look like there is anything wrong. The liquid damage indicators have not been triggered (still completely white) and i do not see any corrosion on the inside which i guess rules out liquid damage.
I then thought that it could possibly be the charging circuit from the micro usb so i then tried with a qi wireless charger. The wireless charger doesnt even detect that a phone is placed on it when the nexus 5 is on it.
At this point i have no idea what is wrong with the phone and feel like i just bought an expensive paper weight . I dont really want to shell out the $120 for a full screen assembly if the phone doesnt work at all.
Anyone have any ideas?
battery might of been left flat too long
keep trying to charge it
also see if you can get into download mode by holding the up volume key and plugging the USB lead in while attatched to a running pc

I left it to charge overnight and still no signs of life. I did notice if you put the phone up to your ear when it's charging you can hear a pulsating noise. Not sure if that helps at all.
I will try the download mode thing. Also I have a Usb jig from my s2 days. Will it work with this phone?

As far as i know from previous phones i owned, the liquid marks should show red/pink X marks, those get washed out in liquid damage scenarios. So if you ask me, the white indicators are suspicious. (But i might be wrong of course).

We from my experience the indicators are white and they turn red/pink when exposed to liquid so I'm pretty sure it's fine.

hi, My nexus 5 fell two floors. I can't see any damage except that the camera lens is broken. The screen is intact. However, my phone isn't turning on, blinking or showing any signs of life. I have tried everything suggested on the Internet related to power button and charging but to no avail.
When I connect it through USB, it's not being detected by the PC.
I took my phone to a repair shop; they kept it for a day and returned the next day saying they couldn't find the fault as it's not even blinking.
I can't get a replacement as I didn't buy the phone through play store but Amazon.
Any views as to what's wrong with my phone?
Thanks.
It's broken. Who knows what broke. It's time for a new phone.

That was really helpful, thanks.
If I had to guess, the impact of that fall caused a vital power connection to come unmatched. Whether that was a ball solder joint or a ribbon cable, who knows. You might as well open her up and start looking for these types of things.

Hello,
yesterday I wanted to check my Nexus 5 phone, but it was all black. Since then it has just remained black, and it does not respond to the charger as I charge the phone and it just remains black. It has happened since then a few times that it vibrates as I use the "turn on" button on the right side, but nothing else happens, and the display doesn't show anything.
Has anyone got any idea what might cause the trouble? I maybe thought about the battery, but since it has accidentally vibrated a few times, it might be something else?
I hope someone can come with advise. The phone was almost fully charged as it went black yesterday.
Thanks a lot!

Thanks for the advise. I do not think that is so, because the phone doesn't seem to work properly at all, meaning that it isn't just the screen that is dark. If I try to turn it on, it vibrates, but nothing else happens. It doesn't react as I connect it with a USB, and I can not use any functions on the phone. So, I have a feeling the problem is bigger than just the screen connector, but it still might be that you are right. Is the screen connector just about showing the picture, or is it also about reacting to whatever I might press at the screen?
have you recently fixed your phone using unoriginal parts? I had similar problems after replacing the back cover of my Nexus 5.

Hello, I haven't made any changes to the phone at all, so no parts changed at all...
