hi, My nexus 5 fell two floors. I can't see any damage except that the camera lens is broken. The screen is intact. However, my phone isn't turning on, blinking or showing any signs of life. I have tried everything suggested on the Internet related to power button and charging but to no avail.
When I connect it through USB, it's not being detected by the PC.
I took my phone to a repair shop; they kept it for a day and returned the next day saying they couldn't find the fault as it's not even blinking.
I can't get a replacement as I didn't buy the phone through play store but Amazon.
Any views as to what's wrong with my phone?
Thanks.
It's broken. Who knows what broke. It's time for a new phone.

That was really helpful, thanks.
If I had to guess, the impact of that fall caused a vital power connection to come unmatched. Whether that was a ball solder joint or a ribbon cable, who knows. You might as well open her up and start looking for these types of things.

I had to restart my phone. And then my screen goes blank. There is no display since. Even charger plugged on there is no indication.
There is some heat generated when the battery is charged and even after the cable is removed indicating some functioning of the phone hardware.
Tried the long power button hold and tried the power + volume up hold troubleshooting. But nothing happens.
Please help!
Do you have another battery that you can try? I had similar problems with one battery I had. I used another one and the phone was fine. Most energy problems are faulty batteries.
I don't have a spare battery and no stock of batteries here as well.
Any other suggestions?

try holding vol up + vol down...while holding, tap power
this will load download mode. If you can get it here you can reflash with odin and reinstall everything again.
try having the back cover off... plug the phone into a known working charger / cable with the battery in. let it sit for 10 secs, then quickly pull the battery out and plug the battery in (like half a second... just enough to disconnect the battery from the contacts) this should force the phone to turn on.
Its how i turn my nexus s on without a power button.

Could be the power button. This is a known issue and something similar happened to me. Turned phone off and wouldn't turn back on. Tried everything - just had to jam the power button. Had it replaced twice for that reason. I fixed my third by disassembling and cleaning and reseating power button.

Thanks for all the suggestions. Apparently the motherboard needs a change. And since I had bought it in a different region, the motherboard available here is not suitable.

Too bad! Maybe you can get one online. I found this one on ebay:
http://item.mobileweb.ebay.com/viewitem?itemId=121053149092&index=3&nav=SEARCH&nid=59354008011
If you search a little bit more and in more places I'm sure you can find something. Or you can use this as an excuse to get a new phone!

You can't buy a motherboard none is selling them, if u want to fix ur phone u need to send it for repair to samsung or an alternative repair shop, but none of those 2 will sell u a mobo...
I was searching on ebay for some time and 2 ads i found were for dead motherboards and this in 4 months of searching. I mailed a dozen repair shops and they all decline to sell me a mobo or they didn't carry them at all
Anyway to repair ur phone by replacing the mobo will cost you 100-150$ ur better of buying a new phone for around 200$ cause the nexus s is too old and doesn't justify the repair / value / performance compare to other phones on the market right now
I have had this same problem and if my cousin finds out that this phone might be broken he will be upset. But i can change the motherboard, if i do will i lose all my data like music messages apps etc. ?

Has anyone had a problem with their nexus 5 where the screen would randomly start pressing things? It usually happens multiple times and is very erratic. Contacted Google and will send back for a replacement just wondering if anyone else is having this issue.
Yap, me too.
Had it a while back but it seems to have stopped.

Never anything like that but what I have done a few times is my palm touches the bottom right of the screen when I reach for the top left corner while right handing it. Coming from an iPhone so I guess it took a bit to get used to the larger screen
I requested for a replacement to Google Play this morning. They send it this evening. I should
get my replacement early next week. Good service I would say.
I'm glad I'm not going crazy! This is happening to me too! Is there any way to resolve this without having to go through the RMA process?
Only While Charging
I'm getting some erratic touch behavior, but only when the phone is charging. I take it off the charger and it seems fine.
I'm not getting total phantom behavior, but when I swipe from home screen to home screen, sometimes an app will get activated. Same with pulling down the notification area.
It makes me think there's a charge leaking through to the display components somehow.
I'm going to give it a week and then RMA it if it doesn't go away.
I have it too
I have it too but only when I connect my USB to the computer...
It's sucks cos I'm an app developer...
Is there any fix for that?

Sounds like a dodgy USB cable or port.
Same issues with my Nexus 4
I notice my issue is mostly when my phone is charging or when I'm using my mobile hotspot. Tends to get extra warm when im using both. Which leads me to believe its an overheating issue (the heat is throwing off the digitizer causing it to maybe think its being touched?) Is anyone else noticing the same?
Yes, but only while on wireless charger and even then only sometimes.
I take it off, push power button twice and it's gone.
I'm also experiencing this if my Nexus 5 is charging using the original Wall charger and cable.
Still no fix for this? Really annoying, I need to unplug my phone to the charger so that I can use it again normally
Same issue here
https://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=62748
This usually happens when you use some other charger/usb cable than the original one

This also sometimes happens when you have wet or moist fingers

I'm using original cable and wall charger. I also don't have wet finger or hand when experiencing this issue

My N7 4.4.2 Not Rooted has been playing up lately. For the 2nd time in 3 days, I picked it up and it wouldnt respond. I could hear the screenshot being taken so the phone was on but the screen was black. It vibrates after using the power button and it finally boots up again. The phone has been perfect for about a month and this error only started recently.

Do a factory reset. Keep in mind that this will wipe your internal storage so be sure to back up and data, photos, etc. before hand. If that doesn't fix it then flash the factory image over. As to how, refer to this thread.
Your problem should be fixed after the Factory Reset though. Good Luck!
Thanks. I was hoping it wouldn't come to this but oh well. Is there a cause for this?

Were are talking about the N5 right?. I had this issue with my G2X a couple years ago. It turns out that after I took it apart the flex cable looked like at had been torn a tad bit. This sounds like a flex cable problem. Software could be the issue and a factory reset may help. However in my experience that's usually a flex cable or pop connection. Send it in if the reset does not work. Don't bother trying to do this yourself. It may be the front panel flex cable. Or the pop connection of the main board. When these cables are made, they are literally thrown into barrels and sent to The front panel assembly line. So chances are. One of these flex cables suffered some damage. Same goes with the tiny connection on the main board. These tiny pieces are put on one by one. I think robots do it. The device turned on for their tests. But the long run? ...Well you get the point.

Im just facotry resetting my phone right now, i'll post later the results after a few days of testing
Well? did the factory reset work? I have this issue and it's driving me nuts!!!! I read somewhere that squeezing the case helps, and indeed this seems to work something, to it looks like hardware issue to me
black screen nexus 5
I was totally desperate with this random black screen. I tried everything including change of flex cable and also screen, but the same random black screen
I changed the 2 years old battery with a new one and.... ooff... this resolved my problem .no black screen anymore
I hope that, with this solution, I give You another direction of thinking about what is causing this annoying problem
Hey guys.
So, I'm not using my Nexus 5 anymore, but I would like to give a shot to fixing it.
It fell down the toilet so the buttons on the side are wrecked. The screen is not broken however.
If I plug it into the charger, it displays a red LED. If I press the power button it vibrates, but displays nothing.
Do you guys have any idea of what might cause this problem? Is the screen the problem?
Thanks.
I think the problem is the fact that it fell in the toilet. But that's just my humble, unprofessional opinion.
Why did you plug it in the charger? Disconnect the battery first
It's a goner. Time for a new phone.

Hi folks,
i am struggling with the following issue and hopefully I find somebody who could help !
After I got a new battery for my nexus, it didn't boot or charge, so I thought the battery is broken. I contacted the seller and he sent me new one. For the time in between I just had my nexus running with my old battery.
So I got the second battery for replacement from the same seller, tried it and nope - didn't boot. I figured this one would be broken again and I tried to put my originally battery back into the phone but it would not run normally now either .
It only booted up a few rare times but the touch didnt work. Since then it only vibrates shortly when I try to turn it on. Afterwards there is nothing more though. Sometimes I can see the backlight bleeding but nothing more...
I changed my screen twice before and I didn't have any problems. So technically speaking I think I knew what I had to do.
Really frustrating. If you could share your ideas with me, that would be fantastic!
Thanks!
I just checked the connection with my computer and that seems to work. I know its not the displays fault so I reckon the USB connector???
Thanks again for your help!
Cheers
Edit: flashed the factory image now and that appeared to work...
I just ordered a New USB connector and see if that'll help.

OK, i think I found what is causing the trouble for me.
I have a loose contact at the connection between the mainboard and the USB connector...
Does someone know if that can be fixed?
Do you think Google will recognise I opened the phone a couple of times?

This is a problem encountered by some others. The connection between the USB/Lcd ribbon and the motherboard has been know to have problems. so first check to make sure it is connected correctly.
I had it happen with one of my Nexus 5 phones. I sloved the problem by using tiny strip of 3M double stickover the top of the USB connector before positioning and screwing on the Motherboard cover . Be careful to ensure that each antannae wire is correctly connected too. You can test everything is working before replacing the rear cover. When you attach the rear cover be aware that it must be able to make a good connection so that NFC is enabled. Just be patient and take your time.
I hope thia helps.
Thanks! That actually helped a lot!
A piece of cardboard on top of the usb ribbon connector actually did it for me!
In fact it's back alive and now I am wondering if I keep my 5' or stick to my new moto x 2014
Thanks again for your help!
cheers
