Phone frames popped out? - Xperia Z3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
I've owned my Sony Xperia Z3 Device for about 3-4 months and i've always kept a Case onit (Tudia Case) Today i had dropped it, and noticed the frame next to the dock connection has popped out, I went to Tesco's they told me They wont replace it because it is a 'accidental damage' not a electrical fault however i've noticed i'm only getting 2-3 bars, Will Sony Replace this?

do you really think they should, given there's no real fault on their part - ask them for a quote for an out of warranty repair maybe.......

Well yeah, i mean paying for something that's £500 and then discovering it develops a metal deformation after a drop, That's ridiculous? Would it not irritate you if your device suddenly developed an issue where the metal frame stuck out and slightly bent? This is absolute bull****, Plus it is an issue as i've found it's got an impact on the Wifi/Network, Well that's my theory due to the fact my bars are sticking on 2/3 bars and WiFi is absolutely shocking right now, sometimes it wont even connect.

But in their eyes, you dropped it.

Bit stupid to be fair, Surely the warranty should cover Accidental damage & Technical faults, meh, Do you reckon if i buy insurance they'll replace it for me?

no because that would be fraud and it's generally illegal.....

How so?
(I'm talking about third party insurance such as protectyourbubble.co.uk
If i purchase insurance surely they would cover me? Afterall that's what i'm paying for....
EDIT:
Decided to stop wasting my time and tried some DIY, Managed to push the metal back in it's got a small ripple, and a few very hair line scratches which are unnoticeable, However if it bothers me toomuch I'll just purchase a new frame for the phone and assemble the device into that
I URGE EVERYONE TO PUT A FLIPCASE ON YOUR DEVICE TO PREVENT ANY BENDING/METAL POPPING!

It didn't 'develop' a "metal deformation", you dropped it.
"warranty should cover Accidental damage" Are you serious? If you accidentally crash your car, the person you bought it from should give you a new one?
"If i purchase insurance surely they would cover me?" Insurance is a product that is sold on a risk basis, where there is some risk that you might make a claim, not a 100% chance of you making a claim.
I'm not sure if you are trolling... Or if this is really the way you think things work.

it's not entirely dissimilar to the continuous play fraud where broken PS3s were being sourced via ebay, and then repaired improperly using sony's in-house policy - needless to say the scheme was closed off to new subscribers, and the bar was almost certainly raised for those seeking an independent guarantee repair due to the cynicism generated - whilst I agree that some repair quotes are excessive and some consumers are incorrectly asked to pay for a defect sony simply don't want to acknowledge, the two aspects I'm not comfortable with are (a) blatantly dishonest claims; and (b) hair trigger claims for a brand new replacement because their back panel is a billionth of a millimetre out with no clear indication of prejudice - there's no guarantee that sony will continue to produce handsets in the middle or the longterm, and people perhaps need to bear that in mind before flagging that they're on their fourth Z3 which they'll probably return immediately before the statutory guarantee expires..... general comment by the way, and not aimed at the OP who can take his own decisions.

EDIT: ok, I am really curious, does someone know if there is some kind of reason about this? maybe someone alleged once that some alien broke his asus?
Maybe they want to blame all the delays on aliens. Odd stipulation for a warranty invalidation. Nice catch.

Space invasion could also mean placing the device too close to a heater or fireplace. "Space invasion" really is a broad term to use.
I guess that would explain why Space Invaders is sold through iTunes.......

Well, finally something with logic
I can't find those terms in asus spanish webpage to see how they translate it.
Remember that the people who wrote this aren't native English speakers. I'm bilingual so i can see how they could write it to mean something totally different than how we would interpret it.

Break-ins? Burglaries? IE. Someone invading your space and stealing and/or destroying your property.
Not nearly as exciting as aliens though...
srsly, thats funny! now we know how guarantee service works at asus
I noticed this when I was researching the warranty because of a defective digitizer. It's funny but they have effectively claimed that everything voids the warranty. Between the infamous customer induced damage and the string of circumstances, scenarios, and invasions in the clauses listed you have to leave the device in the original manufacturers packaging and store it in a temperature controlled room with no physical motion in order to get any damage covered under the warranty!

I've read their warranty policy many times. I still don't see how they are being unreasonable. I've handled many (dozens) of TF's, and I can tell you that they are very durable. I've worked with dropped, banged up, frisbeed, etc. units and they've all been intact.
I live in the chicago area. Very harsh weather at times. Went down to like -10 a couple weeks ago. My building's heater must have gone haywire or something, because the temperature control set the place to like 75-80. We were all sweating like pigs inside and freezing to death outside. I took my TF in and out and still no temperature change induced damage.
My brother's young boy used his TF as a frisbee a couple months ago. The power button was misaligned, but that was it aside from a couple of scratches. All I did was opened it up and re-aligned the power button.
Since I've worked with so many TF's, I tend to wonder about reported cases of the screen just cracking on their own.
But anyway, as long as there's no physical damage, warranty should cover it.
I am beginning to believe you either work for ASUS or own a large amount of their stock.
You keep defending them using the same logic but it's that very logic that doesn't make sense to me. If you've worked with so many of them and never seen a failure like this, even from abused units wouldn't it make sense then that when does fail and there are absolutley no signs of physical damage that would almost HAVE to mean it was a defect in the failed component and should be covered under warranty?
Anyway, it wasn't and now I dislike ASUS with a passion. Nothing can be done about that but it doesn't mean I won't help where I can. Just that ASUS will never have me as a repeat customer and I won't recommend them to anyone I don't hate! LOL.

What I do has absolutely nothing to do with electronics. And I've no affiliation with Asus. How is it unreasonable to not cover physical damage? All companies don't cover physical damage. I won't stop you from hating Asus, but any company would deny warranty coverage for physical damage. Go ahead and ask others what they think about this warranty policy about things that just crack on their own.
Added by edit.
There are many ways to physically damage an item but leave no trace in the surrounding area. One way is to have it in a case and drop it. The outer casing is protected but the internal electronics and glass/digitizer will sustain damage due to shock. Another way is to have it lean against a pressure point.
I never said it cracked on it's own. I'm a bit smarter than that. I know everything happens due to a cause. My guess is I had an improperly assembled screen, or the docking action stressed a weak component.
If the physical damage arises because of a defective component or defective design then yes, it should be covered. Period. End of story.
That is what a World Class company does, I know that for a fact. Some companies will even cover damage if it is questionable what caused it (this instance isn't though) just to avoid possibly losing a customer. ASUS obviously doesn't need to worry about that though.
I was joking about being affiliated with ASUS. Relax. And I never said I hate them...
Sorry for misunderstanding. Recently we've had a series of reports of the screen cracking on its own.

Help! Shafted by Sony's incompetence and false waterproof claims!

Repair # 1-20162112859
My phone was left on the table while it was raining last week (flaps fully closed of course) and when I picked it up to check something after a while I saw it was turning itself off. After that it never came back alive no matter what I tried. I noticed the camera lenses had fully frosted up so it was apparent that water had seeped in somehow.
I dried the phone for over a day but it simply didn't work! I sent it to Sony for warranty repair as I expected it to be covered since I used it under their advertised conditions and you expect it to take a bit of rain at the minimum.
To my utter horror they have come back as saying that because the phone has some other physical damage on the other side (it has a very slight bend in the left side middle which i don't recall it having) it means that the warranty is automatically void and they don't even need to investigate the water damage or the reason why the waterproofing failed via faulty flaps! But the failed flap is the one on the opposite/right side where the SIM and memory card go! It doesn't even make sense!
I have attached the repair centre (SBE Ltd. UK) sent pictures as evidence.
I assure you that the 2 are completely unrelated and on the opposite sides of the phone. They are simply using cause and effect and not scientific tests to rub their hands off my claim. There are plenty threads online showing that Sony Z3 phones have been failing at waterproofing. Given Sony's dropping sales they should at least help out their customers and stick by their principles and marketing claims.
To top up the experience the rude customer service even charge me £20 to ship phone back! Extortion?
I was a staunch Sony fan who owned the Xperia S, Z, Z2 and Z3 but my Sony story is well and truly over! I will go to a small consumer court as I will not give up because I am right! can anyone in UK advise what are my rights and course of action?
More shocked than disappointed.
is good to konw that sony isn't that good in customer help...too bad sony, too bad.
by the way yestarday a whashed my 4 days z3 in cold water (there where ice cubes in) and today i noticed that the camera and the led are covered by water bubbles.
now i hope that in few days water will evaporate. so sony's phones aren't all waterproof....i think they sell even phones that don't pass all the quality controls. so bad.
Luckily mine got replaced by Carphone Warehouse but this'll be my last Sony phone probably. Problem is I'm running out of manufacturers as they all end up disappointing in one way or another. In fact only Apple have failed to let me down with phones so far.
Good luck with the claim BTW. Small claims court is a good idea; no way will Sony bother to send anyone along to the hearing.
Good luck. So annoying when one of the best devices o the market has so little customer care behind it. I suggest you take it to twitter, seems to be the place where no company wants to tarnish their reputation.

WtF!?!?!? Where have you read physical caused damage is covered under warranty?!?!? Where?!?!?
I understand OP frustration, but it is obvious that some physical force bent phone and that caused waterproof fail, and that caused phone to die...

If the water was really cold, it will sublimated to the innards of the phone (duh)
Oh Sony quality control ist one of the best but Ive gone trough 3 z3 to find the present one without hardware defects. But all 3 of them survive a pool dive so I trust Sony with waterproofing (ironically)
I've got a Xperia Z3 Compact that has already been for repairs 3 times(1 with initial problem the other two was to fix their repair twice), unfortunately last week decided to clean the phone under water tap, and found that after a while the phone stopped working, water went through, so water proofing had gone after they repaired, right now still waiting for their escalation team to get my phone to go for repair. Not happy at all, I also own 3 other Sony phones Z, Z2,Z3 and my Z2 has gone to repairs last year but now I would not have 100% confidence that the phone is water proof. SBE UK LTD really has bad workmanship.

i think that cold water was the problem :silly: , i've tried in normal water and water doesnt get in.
hardware defects remain front and back glass aren't aligned to the frame as they shoud ( i went to a store and watched another z3 and it hadn't that problem. So quality controll isn't perfect for me...you can't sell a phone for 500+ euros and admit such imperfections.
I have the same problem of being denied, but instead because there are two small cracks on the glass.
See my thread on this; I'm going to try and force them into an arbitration in the hopes they'll service my phone instead of paying their lawyer.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/z3/help/small-crack-denied-service-unrelated-t3174528
Sony phones are not water PROOF but are water RESISTANT upto certain limits provided the flaps are tightly secured.
If phone gets damaged due to water then warranty is void. Sony is bluffing the customers with their water proof gimmicks which we should not fall prey. My phone got wet in rain but I was lucky to save it without going to worst service center chain of Sony. It did it myself using DIY videos carefully

Small crack on home button

Having a black S7(non-edge). Small crack in the home button at an edge. Was there from DAY 1 I guess. Much less noticeable in the black color.
Will it be worse overtime?
Will it render the fingerprint scanner unusable?

Should be a manufacturing defect that I didn't notice out of the box. No way this could happen without dropping the phone or any other strong impact which I'm sure I haven't done. Anyway since the exchange period is over there is no use of crying over spilt milk.
Even if I had found this issue within the replacement period or even on the same day of unboxing itself there is a chance that they will try their best to not give me replacement based on my previous experience with my Galaxy S3 which had a gap between back cover and the main body at the top edge for which they laughed at me when asked for a replacement and denied my claim. They only way to prove that this was indeed a manufacturing defect is to record the unboxing of the product and if there is anything wrong with the unit show it in the video right way, LOL, otherwise they won't believe my claim. I've seen people in forums who had replaced thrice or even five times. But things aren't so easy at my place.
It's been almost 1 month from the date of purchase. I contacted Samsung, and they are telling that physical damages aren't covered in warranty and if in case it's a manufacturing defect they told me to approach any service center to inspect. I heavily doubt whether they will believe me. Should I give it a try? What do you say?

I'm in a confusion whether to go and get it repaired by Samsung or not. Because once when I approached Samsung's approved service centre (@ 2014) when my Galaxy S3 had a minor hardware issue (for the reason I quoted in one of my post) after replacement period. A person I closely know there (one of the repair guys) advised not to better give it for repair for this silly issue to any Samsung service centers and to better cover it with a case/cover since they were kind of bad at repairing and that they might mess up something else. So I'm kind of in a confusion in the case of my GS7's home button issue. What do you guys say?
Should I go for warranty repair?
Most of all, Will it cause to loose water-proofing?

quick question, does sony cover cracked screens? because i dropped my phone and the screen has a small crack but the touchscreen is completely not working now, its still under warranty so will they cover this normally? also, if not , how much does it cost to fix and will it lose its waterproofing if i replace it myself?? been looking on their site but they make it so awkward to find any useful info

Take it to a Sony store /centre if there's one you can get to and see what they say. It can totally depend on the person you see and the individual centre. If they feel bad for you they might do it, plus Z3 is "old" now so they will be looking (I expect) to get rid of the parts if they have a surplus so it's down to luck.
Don't act like you're willing to pay for it yourself as they get to bill Sony Warranty if it's covered anyway. Sony's market share is meh, so the last thing they need is more unhappy customers and losing repeat sales.
Then if its a serious no, and that's after a lot of fighting (if you're brave making a big fuss can break them ;p) then ask how much. Probably will be extortionate so if you can follow a guide to replace it yourself this will be better.
Water resistance is temperamental at best on these phones so you will likely lose it by replacing yourself, but how often do you really need it? Phones were fine before water proofing so it's just a niche feature not a necessity. Plus there are loads of people saying they lost their's after using warranty anyway.
Mine had the screen replaced for dead pixels (and they actually did a full refurbishment ports and all) in Russia (bought phone there as was cheap) and the pressure test for water proofing still works, but I haven't tested it since and don't really want to get it wet on purpose. So again depends on the service centre.
Hope my essay helps. Could all be useless. Just my experience with Sony

S8+ Display issues reported to Samsung but they seem to be playing games

Hello Friends,
In May I bought a S8+ for Indian Rupees 64999 and in less than 8 weeks all of a sudden the screen started flickering when kept on charge. There is something called a liquid damage indicator in the SIM compartment, it's similar to litmus paper that indicates the presence of acid or an alkali by changing colour. In this instance the LDI determines whether a liquid (water) has entered the device.
It may well be that the water was introduced at the service centre, but without a before and after shot taken whilst you were at the service centre, this would be nigh on impossible to prove. Good luck with your legal challenge.
Screen flickering is also indicative of water damage.

But I have been extra cautious with the phone, especially when the price tag is a over US$1000 for which I am asked to shell out US$400 now, I am wondering how can water enter without me exposing it to water?

I'm not too sure whether humidity can cause this? Maybe a prolonged spell in the bathroom ? I have seen some posts alluding to the same situation as yours, on this and other device forums.
Maybe the thing to do, is to search for this topic and then reach out to those complainants to see how or if their issue was resolved.

Thanks once again for spending time and reverting back, I am not sure if humidity would be a factor, cause than - what would the effect be on non water resistant phones, just a thought. Also like I said I have not let water touch the phone let alone take it in a shower.
Sure I will research other posts and forums to see what are others experiences, thanks once again
And here I thought the S8+ was water resistant.... Surely the IP68 rating isn't just so much marketing hot air?
wow and they label it with IP68 in huge ads! Really it should have been replaced without any additional cost...
Feel really bad for you man.

Sometimes sweat can cause the issue of the water damage. If you're in a hot sweaty environment you should put your phone in a zip lock bag. You can goole it and there are plenty of instances where sweat alone has caused the issue.

I'm not sure but guess the poster is from India. India is very hot country with high humidity. This makes off course people sweat much more. So there are many possibilities how the water damage indicator got triggered. And funny is most Post I read about this triggered water indicator people swear the phone never touched any water. Because they know very well water damage is not covered. And because Samsung touted the S8 and S8+ are water resistant they try crazy things like a guy who used it in salt water playing diver movie maker.

This is exactly what I was thinking. And India is very hot and the humidity is very high.
I've triggered the water damage on older phones multiple times just from humidity. On my note 4 I literally watch the sensor turn pink on the battery while the battery was sitting out on my desk not inside the phone.
If it is only happening while its charging I have a few suggestions if you don't want to pay for the repair charge.
1.) Try to clean out the charging port with a little bit of alcohol and make sure there is no lint in there that could be holding liquid.
2.) replace your charging cable. It may just be a bad cable
3.) Invest in a wireless charge and stop using the cable all together

Dude, I wasn't saying anything about your personal hygiene but sweating whether in your pocket or out of it is a real problem for smartphones.

Plus many more instances.
Ask them how they tested the seals on the phone before opening it up. If they can't tell you say they have no way to prove it was not a manufacturing defective seal that was bad and they should cover the repair under warranty.

Hello Friends,
In May I bought a S8+ for Indian Rupees 64999 and in less than 8 weeks all of a sudden the screen started flickering when kept on charge. I handed over the phone to the service center in Mumbai, India. I asked for a replacement handset and they said they will repair it for free and give me an additional 12 months added warranty. After spending ten days with my phone and back and forth over calls, this is the response received from Samsung customer care:
What I fail to understand is that - Not once has my phone even touched water than how are they saying "water log" can someone who knows more on this please help, I am going to challenge this legally and need help, please advise.

Hey are you speaking to any **** joe who answers the phone when you phone Samsung? Why I’m saying this, I had a issue with a company once soon as I asked to speak to their manager there whole attitude changed.. What you need to do is get hold of someone high up in the chain, that way you cut out dicks who are causing issues on your device and then making you pay for it.. it’s a joke they are charging you near 400 USD to fix a issue that is caused by their device or by their workers..

Even if you don't hold your mobile to your head mate.
It's enough having it in your pocket and moisture is already building dependent on your weather conditions. Im hyper careful carrying my mobiles around. Most the time I have a special Bag to put everything I need into it (Headphones, Charger, Micro cleaning kit and alike). Like this there is no bending, no cracked screen and many other issues are taken care of. Off course this is not a option for everybody. There are very small little nice bags even with integrated cooling. Maybe this could be a solution for you next time.
