Hi guys! My name is Daniel, I am part of an small (two man) indie game dev team called DJantel Ware.
We released our first game two weeks ago and wanted to present it to you. Any kind of feedback is highly appreciated!
So to the game:
Nightmare Defender is (kind of) a tower defense game, but it brings some fresh ideas into the genre! The main idea here is that you are defending your castle against waves of monsters. Your main weapon to do so is your bow. There are quite a few attributes you can put your gold and experience points into to get stronger or be able to cast mighty magic spells. The biggest difference to other defender games is that you have guards. Guards are creatures that help you against your endless battle. Share your experience points with them and they will get stronger and evolve. All guards have unique skills, some of them act on their own (attacking and casting spells), others will wait for your commands.
You can get it for free in the play store:

For the ones who care: We used AndEngine as our game engine. All graphics are made by me (using Inkscape), almost all sounds as well (two or three public domain ones are also there). Music was made by Kevin MacLeod.

A real gameplay video:
I would really appreciate it if you gave it a try! Thank you .

Omg, buried on second page already.
Hm, so really nobody wants to try it? It would be also very great and helpful feedback if you told me why you do not feel like trying it? Something about the screenshots? Description? Bad video?
I played few rounds of this. Core gameplay was quite nice and fluid. Aiming atleast with the bow was semi accurate but could definetly be better.
While I liked the UI ingame a lot, I think it was clean and fluid, but in the menu before the game the UI was.. confusing to say the least. I got lost in the menu for a minute untill I figured what to do.
TLDR; A lot better gameplay than some games on playstore that have millions of downloads, but the menu was too "2.3 or Gingerbreadish" for me.

Hi inSaN1Ty_X,
thanks alot for trying our game and your feedback!
@aiming
This heavily depends on the speed of the arrows. You will be able to hit monsters a lot better when you increase the speed attribute. We build it like that so you have this feeling of your bow getting better all the time .
@menu
Oh, ok. What menu do you mean exactly? The one at the very beginning or the one with the attributes and all this stuff?
Again, thanks a lot for your feedback !

Yes, I guessed the aiming would be something like that, and its ok, I'll just have to play a bit more.
On the menu side I mean the main menu in general is not that systematic, button sizes/locations and color were the ones that hit me most.
But that is just my oppinion ☺ looking forwards for updates!

Ah ok, I see ^^. The main menu was really build (rebuild) as a last step - thus, you are right, it is not exactly systematic with the rest. But the new one looked a lot better than the old one, so we decided to use it for now . We will see if we can improve it.
Thanks again for this valuable input!
*bump*
Add shadows, and your game will look much better:good:
Hi A-Pod, it is a nice idea! We will check out if it is possible. Our concern right now is performance on not high end devices - unfortunately the used engine does not handle "too many sprites at once" too well. But we will check out the possibilities.
What we right now are also thinking about are weather effects like rain or fog.
Thank you very much for your feedback!
*bump*
Of many games of this type it's look good!
Thank you!
I saw the trailer on google play, it looked interesting to say the least.
I'll try and download it today
Hi taptouchart,
we would be glad if you gave it a try . And please rate it if you liked it .
Today a new update is also available. Along with bugfixes and stuff people can not see, we included yet again a new monster (this makes two new monsters after release ).

Hehe, thanks for the up! It is crazy how fast things got buried on this forum.
Cool defense game, very motivating! How did you came about with the idea of this weird clown ?
Hi Entangled Multiverse,
we are glad you like it! The idea just popped into our minds. He was supposed to be a more important figure, giving you new bows when you defeat him. Until now it is just a gold bonus. We will see if he receives the glory he was supposed to in future updates .

Easy to learn, hard to master. The concept is simple, remove all the blox from the board to move on. The challenge comes when not every block acts the same way.
Over 70 levels and 7 different and fun BLOX types (With more on the way)
Any feedback is welcome, good or bad. If you have any questions about the development process / time frames, let me know. I would be happy to answer.

Game was updated with performance fixes.
Anyone give this a shot yet?
v.1.0.3
Added a feature request, Grid Option! to toggle through 3 different Grids, Full, Border, and Off
Fixed a bug causing the game to force close in rare cases on exit.
Brilliant game, keep on it mate.
Sent from my Arc via transwarp beacon.
Well , I just saw this thread, just installed it, and just tried the game.
And I must say, it's amazing! Simple yet entertaining, just the way I like it.
My guess is it will be very popular soon!
Tested on Galaxy S2, ICS ROM, works flawlessly, didn't encounter any errors, or FCs, although I didn't get past the 4th level ( feeling sleepy )
My experience and opinions, criticism and whatnot
+ The game starts up very fast!
+ The transitions are really nice in the world/level picker.
+ Music is really nice and not too boring, though I would prefer something jazzy
and slower ingame ( a lot of clouds )
maybe something like : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nf8FCLT8S6A
+ Help is drawn pretty nice, although it should point out that you need at least 3
blocks together for them to dissapear
+ text Font is awesome and fits well, so does the rest of the graphics
+ I love the concept of the game, nothing simillar out there
+ Block animations are awesome too
- I dont like preview thumbnails on level picker, they all look the same, maybe
some nice icons or something ?
- I didn't check the other worlds yet nor levels past the 4th but it seems they all
have the same 3 clouds + sun background. It got boring after 2 minutes
Maybe night/day cycle or something, shouldnt be too hard Would even look
nicer with a moon there and a dark background
Maybe the preview thumbnails will look better when the levels have different
backgrounds
Gonna play with it tommorow some more and edit this post if I find something that I like/don't like
Great job mate! Cheers!
Edit : Added smilies to the post, it wouldn't add the first time for some reason

Amazing feedback, thanks!
As to your light criticisms, I am in the process of trying to incorporate a more friendly level structuring. As in, you won't have to just play 1 level until you beat it, you will have more levels open to you. And part of this process might be changing the menu system around.
As far as the graphics go, you may be SHOCKED to learn, but I did all the graphics myself, hehe
It probably doesn't need to be said, but I am no good at graphics, my idea would be to make each world look different, so you are not looking at the same thing all the time. But drawing things that don't hurt people's eyes is very tough.
I had originally considered making the game go to night time, you may not have noticed, but the sun actually moves. And when it gets to the other side, it just switches back. At that point I wanted to make it moonlight, but I couldn't draw anything that didn't make my eyes bleed. But you have convinced me to keep trying.
I will keep at it though, thanks for the info.
This game is awesome, please keep it updated

Thanks for the support,
I am working on a big update. Probably due out next week, or the week after. So get your feature requests / suggestions in!
Very clever game, I like how the difficulty varies from level to level.
Sometimes I think a level is too hard, and then I realize it only took 2 moves.
I will also mimic the above poster and say you need a help screen that shows you only need 3+. took me a few seconds to realize that on my own.

Well I thought that too, until I took a closer look and it actually says 3+ on top of the help screen! Though not too many users will figure out what 3+ actually means

Maybe have another info screen on the second level showing the same thing but with just 3? Although it wasn't too hard for me to figure out on my own.
I am stuck on level 25, has to be impossible! I love the little tie-die looking dudes, neat mechanic.
Thanks for the kind words.
I am planning on updating how the level structure works, Anyone have any suggestions? I would like to implement a method in which you don't have to progress one level at a time. So if you get stuck, you have other levels open to keep on playing.
v.1.0.4
Updated the level order. I found too many people failing earlier, changed the levels to have a better difficulty curve.
Enjoy!
Good stuff! It's tougher than I would have thought to find a good, free puzzler that doesn't beat you over the head with ads. Thanks!

I think this game is going to get big because it feels like a really slick app, the animations are very smooth along with the gameplay and the UI is very clean. The game is pretty fun and has an addicting feel to it I recommend this game to anyone.

Wow, this game is really nice! Smooth animations work really good with flat minimalistic design. And it is very additive as well. I spent about 20 minutes, my highscore is 68 The only thing I want to see in future updates is some kind of indication about my position in the leaderboard.

Well, I don't know, your game is actually addicting, I already spent more time in it than I want to admit. My score is now 97, and there is a long way from 97 to 213 (it is top highscore at the moment). I notices one thing while I was playing. When you are using one of top tier skins, icons on the dots made game harder. But I gues it is ok as people who use this skins already have some skill. By the way, for the Russian translation you guys deserve additional спасибо. Looking forward for updates, thanks for great game and good luck!

Awesome game
I like all the little details in this game, like the circle getting bigger over time and the changing background color after you collected 50 balls. Also, it's great that you get "coins" to unlock other color combinations.
Suggestions: I think the game needs a pause button during gameplay - just think you suddenly have to stop in a train, you don't want to loose all your progress. Maybe you could also add some optional background music.
One bug that occurred occasionally: when I pressed the replay-button instantly after finishing a game, the coin display showed a value which was higher than what I really collected (e.g. showing 10 coins when I only collected 9 by having 7 before and getting 20 points). When I do a suicide then, the display in the menu shows the correct value ("9"), so it's not a bug which gives you a benefit but only a display bug.

A very short gameplay description:
“The Tower of Egbert” is a physics-based tower building game with a magic twist*.
Unlike in all the other building games I know of, you’re not restricted to using only a few elements to create a rather unspectacular building. Instead you may use several thousand blocks (bricks, arcs, roofs, deco items, …) to build quite impressive towers and discover interesting areas as you grow it towards the endless vastness of space.
You’ll have to fight gravity, winds, falling rocks, and other dangers on your way up.
Build the greatest tower ever and see if your tower can stand the test of time!
*you can build freely until you reach a certain height and activate the physics simulation. After a few seconds Egbert the Sorcerer will come to your aid and enchant/fix all the blocks built so far to ensure you can continue building safely

Hi, in my experience it can take some time for the Google servers to recognize you as a tester. Hopefully it should work by now, could you please try again?
i want to try this ...
I've tested this game on Nexus 5 with Marshmallow with high quality graphics - in this case I would be glad to see a bit more fluent animations. Another suggestion might be support for gesture navigation in menu - like changing the worlds with a swipe, not just buttons. But I have to admit, these are just tiny negatives that don't hurt overall great experience and the whole idea. Thanks for The Tower of Egbert, it has become one of the three games on my phone

A big thank you for trying my game and for the feedback also! I'm glad you like it and I hope it can live up to your expectations and earn a permanent spot on your phone I know the game is a little demanding (unfortunately) performance-wise. That is mainly a result of the high resolution textures I had to use to allow for a huge zooming range.

i've tested it on Xperia Arc s lt18i.
everything was ok, as for gameplay only one thing was not convenient for me - "brick type" buttons looks too small, and sometimes when i tried to change brick type - new brick appears and falling down so, i guess it make sense to enlarge buttons and avoid space between them

Sorry, I somehow missed your reply Thanks for your feedback! As for the buttons: they are actually larger than they appear (transparent background) and they are almost adjacent to each other so I guess you must have been unlucky hitting exactly the tiny gap between the buttons.
"The Tower of Egbert" has officially been released! I simply edited the original post instead of creating a new thread.
For those of you that have already tried the game during the Alpha/Beta: a lot has changed since then (and the game got a lot easier - only 2 seconds instead of 5 for the timer), so you might wan't to give it another shot It's also possible to rate the game now, I would be glad if you supported me once more!

Thanks again for all the support! If you're looking for something interesting to do this week and want to win some nice stuff - I've started the first “Tower of the Week” challenge!
Whoever uploads a picture of his or her tower to my homepage (Upload Tower | Giggly Mill Productions) has a chance to win 1 out of 5 keys for the “Unlimited Deco Item” package in the game - it doesn't matter how your tower looks, don't be shy.
Also there will be one single tower that will be announced the “Tower of the Week”.
It will be displayed permanently in the Hall of Fame (Hall of Fame | Giggly Mill Productions). Additionally the winner can choose between a key for the premium version of the game (ads away, unlimited deco, and all worlds unlocked) and a letter with 36 handmade magnetic blocks that can be used on magnetic surfaces (I use them as fridge magnets as you can see on the photos).
This first challenge will stop on Sunday the 28th of February 23:59 CET. I will announce the winners on the day after - if there are some entries of course

If you are referring to the actual game play, It was my goal to make it difficult at first. The game requires increase in skill to master it. I speak from first hand experiences that everyone who plays the game says its hard, lol. But after a few times, they get the hang of it. If you are referring to actual controls of the game, I would really like to get some more feed back on that so I know what to improve.
Thanks,
Hey there, thanks for the app!
Yeah, it actually seems rather hard at first but then I get used to it! However, you should bear in mind that the first impression counts greatly. So if the user plays your game for the first few seconds and realize it's too hard to play, this user will most likely close your game, because it seems too hard to make any progress. Perhaps you might want to make the first session of the game easier to see more user engagement and appreciation. Does your analytics data show that everything is fine with retention D1? or the 1st session of the game?
I also like the angle of the gameplay - an unconventional one for platformer games like this.
Will there be other backgrounds? Are you planning to release it on iOS?

Hey, thanks so much for playing. I will definitely take your advice about making the beginning easier to play. I don't think I have enough data in my analytics to tell if that is an issue. I plan to release it to iOS soon, just been very busy planning out my next project. Hopefully we can get new features built into the game as well.

Thanks,

All because your passion. For me it is entertainment in my spare time
good game
I worked on this for a while its not a long game but I paid attention to every detail. You play as Agent Mason who starts out trapped with fellow survivors underground. Each level has a cut scene that gets deep and deeper into the storyline. Its really fun with plot twist. At the core of itis a 2D shooting game with storytelling.

Thanks you so much for the feedback, I really worked on this game to have the fun factor in it.
I'am trying to think what should I do for an update. Should I make an endless part or more levels.
Alright guys its slowly moving up the charts. You can be part of history knowing you helped a indie developer get a real game with no IAP to the top of the charts. Here is were I'am at now
Lets say yes to free games without IAP!!
Awesome game, good background score and really enjoyable storyline. Would love to see more awesome work from you in the future.
Cheers! Keep up the good work!
P.S. Loved the catchy Abbreviations of the agent 'codenames'
Awesome!

Thanks I'am glad you liked it!! I hope everyone loves being Agent Mason!!
The game is going back and forth between 220-240 on the US charts in top new free adventure. I'am praying on a breakout moment , hoping operation undead picks up a little more steam and pushes upwards.
Totally crazy game, I wish you climb those charts quickly!
This graphic !
I like engine and ads ( yep, i like ads because do not disturb ) But the graphics are poor, reaaaly poor. And if you press left or right move button and spam A you shoot faster and animation breaks.
But the game is playable but with the bug on the shooting is terribly easy.

Thanks for all the support so far guys, I really did my best to make a great game but the journey continues. I'am still on the charts around 200-300 area for last couple of days I can't seem to crack any higher. But thats ok I'am working on another game now. Here is the chart position I'am in now
That does indeed look very funny. How is it going?
Edit: I just saw the graphic you posted. Where do you get this from?

I use appbrain to track my chart position. It gives you good stats but is always around 2-3 days behind but catches up after a week.
I had a bit fun the other day...
Any idea what may cause this? Using some "strange" advertising provider or?
Of course I tapped "ignore"

Yes I got that too I checked with Norton , they said Airpush Ads is the reason. I sent email why Norton said something to the effect of Ads on device itself i.e. notification Ads in device tray where you recieved regular notifications. I said I just used the banner ADs feature but Norton says it doesn't matter all airpush Ads get same warning. So its a generic warning since I don't use notification ADs.
