[Q] How can I convert US Model XT1034 to Global GSM? - Moto G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I bought a used Moto G and it's a US Retail Model (AWS 1700MHz).
Unfortunately this frequency band does not work in my country.
So I was wondering that is there any method to convert it to Global GSM (2100 MHz UMTS) so that I can use 3G on it?

[Q]Difference beetween XT925 and XT926

As we all know, there are 2 versions of Razr Hd (and hope soon MAXX as well) phone
XT925 that is made for Verison
XT926 that is made for all other world
The main difference is LTE :
925:
4G Network LTE 800 / 1800 / 2600
LTE 700 / 800 / 1700 / 1800 / 2600
926: 4G Network LTE 700 MHz Class 13
The question is whether it is software block or those are 2 different hardware phones?
Do want to purchase one MAXX phone for Europe for Verison and want to know is there any chance that it would work with European LTE
Take a look @ this comparison via PDADB:
http://pdadb.net/index.php?m=pdacomparer&id1=3446&id2=3811
It provides you with all the CDMA information versus that of the GSM.
Megafon and Yota both appear to offer Band 7 @ 2600Mhz which appears to coincide with the GSM version. That leads me to believe that using an unlocked XT925 on either network would result in a LTE connection.

No, I'm intending to buy this month...but I have some friends working on the Latam team in Mot's office in Jaguariuna, they told me that locked bootloader is a request from Verizon, so, maybe the XT925 is unlocked, the XT926(US version) is locked...

size for cases
Hello,
On the link you posted the size dimensions are exactly the same, I'm looking to buy accessories(case, cover, tripod, charger, etc) but for some reason the xt926 accessories are much cheaper than the xt925. Will all accessories fit the same for both phones?
Xt925 and XT926 have different radio hardware. 926 has cdma and 1 lte band, 925 has more, but different lte bands.
Which version is the one that is offered by Rogers (Canada)? And, if I get that one, and unlock it to use it in Serbia, are there some 4.1 custom ROMs for it?

Rogers Canada is XT925. It is the GSM model, you should be able to unlock it and use it all around the world, just be sure the GSM/UMTS/LTE frequencies are compatible.

Stupid Question, I have the XT926 and I live in Florida. I am moving to germany in March, will this phone work over there?
Yes, it is unlocked.
Caveats:
You won't get LTE (only 4G/HSPA+)
Every time you boot up it will say "SIM is from an unknown source"
When you come back to the US, you'll have to use VZW. TMobile/ATT are blocked
So im confused...if i live in saskatchewan canada and my carrier is sasktel....using 4g hspa....which phone should get...the xt926 or the xt925.....just wondering cuz i want to buy this phone....thank you
Hey,
There must be multiple versions of the XT925 (international). All of them support the same 2G/3G bands, but differ in their LTE radio hardware:
Canadian version is definitely 700 / 1700 / 2100 (Source)
European version supports at least 800 and 2600 definitely (O2 Germany and SFR France) - possibly 1800 also
Australian version supports at least 1800 on Telstra - may be the same model as the European version?
South American version... no idea?! Same as Euro version perhaps (looks like 2600MHz LTE in Brazil)
Motorola should have given them separate model numbers to make it clearer
Su
Thanks for the info....i love motorola products...always have....but all the cdma, hspa, gsm talk started getting me confused....i know my carrier no longer sells cdma devices....but i was looking to buy this phone from ebay but wasnt sure on the att, verizon or what i needed to look for.....this site has helped me alot over the years with many things and am grateful for all the knowledge the ppl here have

Not exactly true. The XT925 firmware is what determines which radios are active. Having 700/800/1700/1800/2100/2600 all active at the same time would drain the battery like woah. Currently you can merge the radio you need into the rom you want to use, and make it work that way. I just hope whatever next "standard" of wireless data communication is more standard and less all over the f-ing place.
For the Motorola Defy, there was a list of radio settings compiled into a apk that would allow you to switch your baseband... Hopefully an enterprising dev will be able to work similar magic for the Razr HD.

Because I don't want to buy a new one, it is expensive to me....
I want to purchase a used one (new condition) from eBay.
There are countless threads on this. The phone is unlocked, but you probably wont be able to pick up LTE because it doesn't have many LTE signal bands -- the ones that it has are pretty specific to VZW.

You should try to get the Rogers or Fido versions of the XT925 (a lot are listed on eBay). You might also be able to find the European versions. These are all gsm. If I remember correctly, most Israeli cell companies are no longer offering CDMA.

The Verizon version works on both CDMA and GSM and will work globally. The XT925 is the same as the 926 excluding the LTE signal bands which are different.

Moto G T-Mobile

Simple question: can the Global version get 3G on T-Mobile? Or is the US version only able to? I want to make sure to buy the right one.
Depends on where your location is. With the refarning of 1900 MHz by T-Mobile in its early stages and with both models supporting that anyway, unless you're traveling to somewhere that needs the international bands play it safe and get the US version which supports T-Mobile's AWS band.

Definitely, it has both 1700MHz and 2100MHz configured for T-Mobile's two-band system. (One is used for uploading and one for downloading, so just 2100MHz is not enough.) If T-Mobile 3g is available in your area, the US version will work on it, with the appropriate SIM card of course.

Unlocking the GSM Variant?

Hey there, fellow comrades!
I am planning to buy the Moto G from Cricket to use it on T-Mobile. I googled for hours, but could only find information to unlock the slick phone by buying unlock codes. I was wondering if there was any way to do this for... free? There are solutions around for most flagship phones, but are there any tools of similar nature for the Moto G?
Any tips would be helpful! Thanks!
Why not just buy an unlocked one can't cost that much more and its illegal to unlock a phone without carriers consent

Many things you see one XDA is technically and strictly "illegal," that doesn't make it illegal to spread the knowledge. As I said before, there are plethora of threads on XDA that show how to unlock other phones, so XDA is not strictly enforcing it.
If there is anyone more helpful, please help a fellow out. Thank you.

Why not just buy the US GSM Moto G from Motorola? Motorola allows you to unlock it. Just go to here
https://motorola-global-portal.cust...sion/L3RpbWUvMTQwMTY1OTE4Ni9zaWQvODVDZHdMVmw=
it has a list of all Motorola phones that can be unlocked. You can also buy the Google Edition Moto G for the same price and that one is easy as pie to unlock.
You mean bootloader unlock correct? To flash ROMs
If you mean carrier unlock then there is only one US Variant of the GSM Moto G and it works on all US GSM carriers no problem.
Unless carrier branded which is a thing
Sent from my LT30p using Tapatalk
He said he wants to use it on T-Mobile. All he has to do is buy the GSM Variant from Motorola. It works on all GSM carriers. Check the GSM Bands. There is only one GSM Moto G. T-Mobile's SIM will work fine no issues. No need to carrier unlock and Motorola allows bootloader unlocking (voiding the warrenty though). I'd go Google Play Edition though. Same price.
Or buy the new LTE version. $20 more but allows has a Micro SD Card slot.
Only the CDMA versions are carrier branded. That's why you can't buy the CDMA Moto G from Motorola's website.

Checkmate, here are the frequencies/bands to look at
AT&T
850 MHz GSM/GPRS/EDGE
1900 MHz PCS GSM/GPRS/EDGE
850 MHz CLR 5 UMTS/HSPA+ 21Mbit/s 3G
1900 MHz PCS 2 UMTS/HSPA+ 21Mbit/s 3G
And
T-Mobile
850 MHz 5 GSM/GPRS/EDGE 2G Roaming
850 MHz CLR 5 UMTS/HSPA+ 3G Roaming
1900 MHz 2 GSM/GPRS/EDGE 2G In Service
1700/2100 MHz AWS 4 UMTS/DC-HSPA+ 42Mbit/s 4G In Service
The Google Play Edition
Network
Unlocked GSM/UMTS/HSPA+
GSM/EDGE/GPRS (850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz)
UMTS/HSPA+ up to 21 Mbps (850, 900, 1900, 2100 MHz)
US GSM Model:
GSM/GPRS/EDGE (850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz)
UMTS/HSPA+ up to 21 Mbps (850, 1700 (AWS), 1900 MHz)
Global GSM Model:
GSM/GPRS/EDGE (850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz)
UMTS/HSPA+ up to 21 Mbps (850, 900, 1900, 2100 MHz)
@rebretz000: there are three GSM Moto G variants: XT1032 (Global with HSPA 850/900/1900/2100 MHz bands), XT1034 ("US" with HSPA 850/AWS/1900 MHz bands) and the upcoming LTE variant (possibly more variants TBA, since the one on the US Motorola website listing lacks LTE bands for Europe or Asia)
The Cricket variant is cheaper by $30 and that is why I am buying it over the T-Mobile variant. I know, I know. $30 is not much, but I am buying this is a gift for someone. And that someone always break phones every 6 months. I have gave him Nexus phones, Galaxy phones, etc. He need a smartphone for his job, but nothing fancy is needed, and that is why I plan to buy him budget phones from now on.
So all in all, it is absolutely not possible to carrier unlock the Moto G yet?
You're going to have to ask the Cricket representative if the phone you are buying is a GSM or CDMA? The new Cricket is GSM but they still have their CDMA network running for the next year for their old subscribers. If it's CDMA then it will not work on T-Mobile and there is no way to carrier unlock it since the CDMA version doesn't have any GSM antennas inside.
Actually you can carrier unlock CDMA versions. Take Boost Mobile's to Verizon since Verizon's can't be bootloader unlocked but Boost's can.

T-Mobile Compatibility?

How well will the new Moto G 2015 with LTE work on T-Mobile? I know that TMo uses some weird frequency bands and I was wondering if the new G supports the full compliment of bands that would allow it to work well on their network. I'm in the Chicago area BTW.

As @anidrin says, the LTE will work. Also, in the UMTS/HSPA+where it says 1700/AWS that means that it'll be fully compatible with T-Mo's HSPA+ network. I'm with MetroPCS and we use the same frequencies so I'm really excited 'cause I'll be able to upgrade from the 1st Gen G that I've been using on Metro and will now be able to use the 3rd Gen as well.

Anyone know how to check if the phone is on Band 12 LTE? Some areas around me say 700mhz needed for coverage on Tmobile's map, and I got a moto g at best buy yesterday, but when I drove through some of those 700mhz spots today, I dropped to 2G or had no service at all. Even my Galaxy S4 had better reception than this phone is showing in those areas.

Yup, I just saw this. They made the change today. Really pissed and wondering if they will ever enable it again. It's really poor form for T-Mobile to beg the FCC to make people play fairly and support band 12, then block it on a bunch of phones. Android 5.1 can support VoLTE out of the box, the Moto g should be easy to set up to properly support it.
