Hey guys just wondering if anybody has unlocked a One S (bought from a Canadian Carrier) and tested it out on Wind or Mobilicity.
I emailed HTC asking them about the bands supported by the phones and this is the reply I got.
Fido: HSPA 42 Mbps
Bell: HSPA 42 Mbps 2100/1900/AWS GSM 850/900/1800/1900
Sasktel: HSPA 42 Mbps
Telus: HSPA 42 Mbps
Virgin: HSPA 42 Mbps

Asked them if the other phones had the same bands
I do apologise for the misunderstanding, but the bands would be the same for the One S on each network.
That being said, I will suggest to contact Wind Mobile to verify if a unlocked phone will work to its fullest potential or not. The reason I mention this, is that some providers put a limit on the connection, on an unlocked phone.

So I was just wondering if anybody has tested this out and knows if it works on Wind or Mobilicity by just unlocking it or if the AWS bands are "locked" just like the Galaxy Note.
Wrong. Canadian One S are not AWS.
If we would have AWS onboard we would have the T-Mobile US phone

:s ugh I was hoping that we did. How sure are you that the AWS bands aren't "hidden" like on the galaxy note though?

Are you sure Penta Band ONE S exist in Canada/USA ? read post #3
As for the official HTC site says. HSPA/WCDMA:Europe/Asia: 850/900/2100 MHz
BUT Your links would make sense according to the note Network bands in regions other than Europe and Asia Pacific may be different, depending on the mobile operator and your location.
I too, am trying to find out too what bands does the Canadian version support
Fido , Bell, Virgin all listed HSPA 850 1900 2100 but Telus only listed 850 1900 , so that leads me to believe 1700 is not supported.
However at the same time, the international version isn't penta band, nor the T mobile version... Where are theretailers getting their penta band One S in black?
Maybe the device is penta band from the fatory but carriered modified ?
My Telus One S arrives next week and I will unlock it but ufortunately Wind doesn't
operate in SK so I won't be able to test it.
I tried to look at the demo phone and I couldnt find the menu option to select networks.

The black unlocked international One S is for sure not pentaband as far as I know and supports less bands than the blue version. I am assuming the blue versions are all the same and just branded differently. My suspicion is Fido/Bell/Virgin/Telus aren't listing the 1700 band so that people do not buy and unlock them to use with Wind/Mobilicity.
That's too bad there has to be someone out there that has attempted to try it on Wind/Mobilicity. It's such a pain how every site/company is showing different specs.
The European version will not work with AWS. Currently the only *confirmed" AWS version is the T-Mobile US version. However if S-Off is ever achieved then flashing a T-Mobile US radio could "unlock" the bands in the European version and other versions a la the Snapdragon Galaxy Note.

I am aware the the European one does not have AWS. However I am not asking about the black European model. In Canada we have the blue model just like the one with T-Mobile in the States which leads me to believe that the Canadian version=the American version; I just need some confirmation.

Sorry didn't know that, went to the HTC UK site and found all the major carriers that had the One S and they were all black. Why does it have to be so difficult for companies to get their specs straight...

Does anybody mind looking under the cover for the model / FCC ID / Industry Canada certification numbers and reporting back with the carrier they got the phone from and the FCC ID. They should be printed on the label near the headphones / headset jack.
These are the variants available in Canada.
PJ40100: UMTS Band V (850)
PJ40110: UMTS Band II (1900)/IV (AWS)/V (850)
PJ40200: UMTS Band V (850)
PJ40210: UMTS Band II (1900)/V (850)
I went to Telus and Bell today ( the Fido and Sasktel stores didn't have working demo models ), I checked the FCC tags and both of them showed "PJ40110". on the top line.
I didn't look at the FCC ID or IC.

With the hack @ascot17 found, I was able to unlock my phone and it works on AWS! (well, I can't test data as this account don't have data, but without AWS it shouldn't write Vidéotron but "Partner" since they don't have a GSM network).

Awesome! Thanks a lot, I really appreciate it. Now I can safely go out and buy this with no worries
Please be aware that you will buy an unsupported phone, unlock the bootloader to root the phone, most probably voiding your warranty in the process (there's talk that the root-only (and not requiring unlocked bootloader) method for the NA One X works on the One S) then Sim-unlock the phone (by a paid code or the new hack), find the APNs for your carrier...
... And hope that all works...
I don't want to scare you but make sure you fully understand all risks. Specially if you buy the phone outright and don't have an account on that carrier...
Despite the fact that I can't test data (as it should be locked in my account) here is a shot telling that I'm on 3G UTMS (which can't be done with this SIM on a non-AWS phone like my iPhone).
I got one from Virginmobile had it unlocked it and am now using it on Mobilicity.
The Rep at the store assured me it wont work but i tried it and it did.
Reason for buying from there was because it was on sale.
I was wondering if the Droid Razr Maxx HD for Verizon will work in Canada or do we have to wait for them to release a GSM/International model?
Pretty sure it won't on the HSPA/LTE networks. Only AT&T phones have the bands to support the Bell/Telus/Rogers HSPA/LTE networks.
I just need to figure out where I can buy a canadian one from now to use on AT&T...
EDIT:
@rajeshr
With VZWs newest spectrum deals, I thought they had to leave their LTE phones unlocked now? Even so, if it was unlocked with its global GSM capabilities turned on, I think it would only get HSPA+/UTMS/EDGE on AT&T...

You could find a Canadian to pick up one for you and have it shipped over. It would put you back about $700 for a brand new one shipped to you ($600 + $72(tax in BC) + $25 (shipping) + $7(unlock)).
I'm not sure of VZW's LTE phone unlock status, but I think you'd only be able to get GSM network (EDGE) on this phone on AT&T.

My mistake! You are absolutely correct. I should read a bit more before I respond!
Here are the supported bands:
Droid Razr HD
CDMA 800 1900, LTE B13, WCDMA 850 900 1900 2100, GSM 850, 900, 1800, 1900 EVDO Rev. A, HSDPA 21.1 Mbps (Cat 14), HSUPA 5.76 Mbps
Rogers Razr HD LTE
LTE B4 B17, WCDMA 850 900 1900 2100, GSM 850, 900, 1800, 1900, HSDPA 21.1 Mbps (Cat 14), HSUPA 5.76 Mbps
does this phone could get unlocked to work in mexico? right now mexico dont support LTE/4g but at the same time Telcel, Movistar and Iusacell got the Galaxy S3, and this one supports 4g/lte, but i dont know if i can get one hd from verizon to get it work here on mexico, as far as i know, mexico works with gsm phones right? and this one is cdma
Pretty expensive! I think I might just wait to see if someone with a VZW one can prove if it works on a GSM carrier... Or wait for the next nexus...
Where are you guys purchasing your MAXX HD in Canada? The usual online suspects don't have it yet.
So would the Razr Maxx HD (verizon model) work in Canada (telus) on 4G or would it only be 3G/Edge service?

Based on the charts:
LTE = No
HSPA = Yes
GSM = Yes
The 4G moniker is misleading. It should be used for LTE, but the providers in Canada have called their 3G+ networks (HSPA) 4G and confusing all their customers.

Based on your reply, you are telling us that this devices should work out of the box, with no additional software modification on international carriers, right?
One thing that wasn't clear to me is, does the Verizon devices (or at least any Razr HD) are sold with unlocked GSM radios?

No, that's not exactly what I said.
Sorry to be pedantic, but what I said was the Verizon Razr HD has the radios required to be compatible with the Bell\Rogers\Telus HSPA & the Rogers GSM network in Canada. I am not saying that this device would work out of the box without any modification as I do not know whether the Verizon Razr HD (or Razr HD MAXX) is unlocked for these carriers. If it is unlocked, it should work without any other modifications. However, if not, I assume you can get an unlock code to allow other networks to be used.

For what its worth, I emailed Verizon and the dude that replied told me that it was GSM unlocked for carriers outside USA.
"Thank you for your inquiry regarding the Droid Razr Maxx HD. My name is Michael, and I am happy to confirm that this device is unlocked as well. You would simply need to power off the device, insert the sim card that you would use overseas, and then power it back on to use it."

Verizon informed me that their 'world phones' (e.g. their razr series) are sim-unlocked for international use from the manufacturer.
However some people have reported that for AT&T and TMobile (national GSM carrier) that they have blocked their SIM usage.
Therefore I would assume that all bands would be available to use if you had any international SIM in there, Canada and Mexico etc, the only compatibility would be the LTE bands - if another country used the same LTE bands as the USA Razr, then I would think you would be able to utilise the 4g.

As we all know, there are 2 versions of Razr Hd (and hope soon MAXX as well) phone
XT925 that is made for Verison
XT926 that is made for all other world
The main difference is LTE :
925:
4G Network LTE 800 / 1800 / 2600
LTE 700 / 800 / 1700 / 1800 / 2600
926: 4G Network LTE 700 MHz Class 13
The question is whether it is software block or those are 2 different hardware phones?
Do want to purchase one MAXX phone for Europe for Verison and want to know is there any chance that it would work with European LTE
Take a look @ this comparison via PDADB:
http://pdadb.net/index.php?m=pdacomparer&id1=3446&id2=3811
It provides you with all the CDMA information versus that of the GSM.
Megafon and Yota both appear to offer Band 7 @ 2600Mhz which appears to coincide with the GSM version. That leads me to believe that using an unlocked XT925 on either network would result in a LTE connection.

Hello,
On the link you posted the size dimensions are exactly the same, I'm looking to buy accessories(case, cover, tripod, charger, etc) but for some reason the xt926 accessories are much cheaper than the xt925. Will all accessories fit the same for both phones?
Xt925 and XT926 have different radio hardware. 926 has cdma and 1 lte band, 925 has more, but different lte bands.

Stupid Question, I have the XT926 and I live in Florida. I am moving to germany in March, will this phone work over there?
Yes, it is unlocked.
Caveats:
You won't get LTE (only 4G/HSPA+)
Every time you boot up it will say "SIM is from an unknown source"
When you come back to the US, you'll have to use VZW. TMobile/ATT are blocked
So im confused...if i live in saskatchewan canada and my carrier is sasktel....using 4g hspa....which phone should get...the xt926 or the xt925.....just wondering cuz i want to buy this phone....thank you
Hey,
There must be multiple versions of the XT925 (international). All of them support the same 2G/3G bands, but differ in their LTE radio hardware:
Canadian version is definitely 700 / 1700 / 2100 (Source)
European version supports at least 800 and 2600 definitely (O2 Germany and SFR France) - possibly 1800 also
Australian version supports at least 1800 on Telstra - may be the same model as the European version?
South American version... no idea?! Same as Euro version perhaps (looks like 2600MHz LTE in Brazil)
Motorola should have given them separate model numbers to make it clearer

Not exactly true. The XT925 firmware is what determines which radios are active. Having 700/800/1700/1800/2100/2600 all active at the same time would drain the battery like woah. Currently you can merge the radio you need into the rom you want to use, and make it work that way. I just hope whatever next "standard" of wireless data communication is more standard and less all over the f-ing place.
For the Motorola Defy, there was a list of radio settings compiled into a apk that would allow you to switch your baseband... Hopefully an enterprising dev will be able to work similar magic for the Razr HD.
I'm considering buying a Motorola Razr Maxx HD to use on AT&T, actually Claro Colombia, but they use the same bands.
GSMArena, lists the bands as:
2G Network
CDMA 800 / 1900
GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900
3G Network
CDMA2000 1xEV-DO
HSDPA 850 / 900 / 1900 / 2100
So GSM and HSDPA seem to cover the AT&T spectrum.
I assume that the CDMA would just be there without being used, but that it shouldn't bother my GSM/HSDPA use, correct?
Can anybody confirm? Thanks.
EDIT: I just found this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2120907, but while most say it should work, in this case in india, there are some that says it does not.

Please post links to a MAXX HD backing and battery.
The OG RAZR has batteries posted all over the web, but I haven't seen one for RAZR HD.
Yes, I have googled this in the past and haven't found any place to purchase a MAXX HD battery & backing. The part numbers used by RAZR MAXX HD battery is EV40, where is the RAZR HD battery is EV30
The OG RAZR is similar, but a little different, they had a battery EB30/EB40. The connectors do not match up.
I am using a Razr MAXX HD in Uruguay (latin america) and it uses those GSM/HSDPA bands...

I didn't. Just placed my sim card in it.
Verizon phones are programmed to work internationally. They just won't work on AT&T and Tmobile.
I think eveyone who answered this thread just read AT&T and forgot about "Claro" but Verizon phones work abroad. There are many threads about it in this forum.
Also look up pdroid he managed to hack the radio to be unlocked.

The information in this thread is wrong.
The phone XT926 (VZW RAZR HD / Maxx HD) will work on ATT/TMobile at 3G speed (HSPA+), but not LTE. There's no way around the LTE thing, the radio isn't tuned to those bands. You can go in and edit the APN information right on the phone, no root required. Just open the dialog and press the (...) button.
Here's the kicker, the phone is locked to international GSM carriers only. However, there is an unlock method here:

I haven't tried it myself, but by the looks of the thread it is working fine.

FWIW the XT925 has a HUGE Battery. I have been using it on ATT and it is almost impossible to kill the battery in a single day. I make it 7 AM to 11 PM everyday.

Wow, is that so? Any issues you have found on the phone by using this hack?

I used the same hack and it's 100% working. You don't even have to be rooted to do this.
Razr HD Claro/Verizon Working on India without any issue and 4G Working in Some cities ...Razr Max HD Also Working on Indian Networks without any issues.

I have used this radio hack on multiple RAZR devices, HD and M. Each time it has worked flawlessly and has enabled USA TMobile operation on H+.
Have fun if you need it! FYI if you're using an international sim with a Verizon phone, even within the US, it will work on AT&T and TMobile GSM frequencies. The only Verizon-imposed limitations are using a domestic SIM while within the US.

To clarify, if you are using an international SIM in a Verizon phone while in the US it will not work without the radio hack mentioned previously. International SIMs roam on ATT/TMobile while in the US, so they are also blocked without the hack.
Source: I have an (unpatched) phone with an Australian SIM in it. No dice.
Can someone please accelerate my decision making by letting me know if the RAZR HD/MAXX HD can:
1) Be fully unlocked from the carrier (Verizon) for use on any compatible network
2) Can use a SIM card when traveling abroad (to purchase local SIMs)
3) Can be fully rooted
Wikipedia lists the phone as:
CDMA EV-DO rev A; 800, 1900MHz
GSM/GPRS/EDGE 850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz
UMTS 850, 900, 1900, 2100 MHz
LTE 700 MHz Class 13
HSDPA+ (4G) 21.1 Mbit/s
HSUPA 5.76 Mbit/s
I also see information that it uses a SIM...but I am not sure if there are different versions of the phone for different carriers/countries, or if my Verizon phone will be able to do all this.
Please advise...thanks!

Well, will let you know..
1. Verizon will not carrier unlock the phone for use here in the states,
2. I have seen people use it abroad but you have to set that up with Verizon.
3. It can be fully rooted and unlocked bootloader.
Some of 1 and 2 may be accomplished in other ways but not officially by verizon, at least not without paying

Thanks...I'm looking for end result here... Can I get Verizon, or a 3rd party to unlock this phone for use with foreign SIM cards?
Can I do it myself (relatively painlessly) with available toolsets?
You can simply buy NOT a Droid Razr HD, but a Razr HD.
This one have no Verizon Branding, also have 4G, the model number is XT925.
This version shipping directly from motorola.
And you can root, unlock bootloader for 5 minutes with win/mac.
One more But - you have to check the frequency of Lte in XT925 version.

Thanks...I'm hoping to be able to buy from a US carrier so I can get the lower rates. Does anyone know which phones on which carriers will allow me to unlock (with a little hacking or a small amount of money for a code) so that I can use them with a foreign SIM?

Bro, as I know you're able to use any version of the razr HD with a foreign sim(in case if it is NOT fully locked) ! You can buy it directly from Verizon. But in USA you will have to use only Verizon. SIM Lock on this device - is only lock on use the phone in US with another carrier (possible to use in US only with Verizon Wireless). Abroad US you can use any SIM, any carrier in any country. Im considering xt926

Thanks ANit - this seems to be exactly what I am now seeing based on my research and talks with VZW.
It does appear though that this procedure:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2166542
will unlock the device even within the US!
Seriously dude - it's an amazing phone.
It's rock solid by itself, battery life is stellar and camera is good, nowhere near as bad as some would suggest at least.
And as a side note since I cant comment in there yet, I've just installed the AOKP Lunchlies and its perhaps the most stable great custom ROM I've seen in my three or so years on the scene (mainly experienced with the Galaxy Ace, Xperia and now Razr HD). Amazing work guys.
So I have been doing more research and am still concerned about one thing:
While is seems pretty certain that we are saying the phone is unlocked for the GSM bands outside the country...and LTE really is irrelevant because no one else uses the same band...what about CDMA countries like Japan or Israel?
Is the only solution when using this phone in another CDMA country to use Verizon's roaming?

The only recent VZW phone to work on other US carriers is the Bionic. Before that I can only recall the HTC Titan as doing that but maybe the Incredible 2 as well. However, VZW call quality and pricing has become so competitive that being locked to VZW in the US is not a bad thing. As you seem to have figured out, the RHD is sim unlocked for foreign countries so you can use foreign micro sims easily. You would likely not be able to activate the phone on another CDMA carrier but you should be able roam there with VZW service. I have only roamed in Mexico on CDMA. All the other roaming in Indonesia, Taiwan, EU and caribbean I have done was on GSM. The RHD does very well roaming. I have chosen to use VZW services (Vodafone) so I can keep my number. I just buy a 100MB data package for $25 which is plenty for email. Not doing that will cost $20/MB and can run into the thousands of dollars. Call costs aren't significantly different to warrant a sim swap on short trips but I have used international foreign sims and programmed apns.
BTW Qualcomm will be releasing a universal LTE chip that will work on all LTE bands in the world.
