[Q] Snapdragon vs Exynos Fast Charge? - Galaxy Note Pro 12.2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am about the buy a New Note 12.2 at BestBuy and wanted to opinions as to if is worth getting a Snapdragon 32GB version
over a Exynos 64GB version.
My 8.4 Tab S is dreadfully slow at charging and read that the Snapdragon Notes have fast charge. Is it really that much faster ?
( I am in the US so only the LTE models have Snapdragon here and they only come on 32GB models.)
Would prefer not to buy the International models because of warranty issues but would if most people recommended it.
Thanks for any and all input. :good:

There are currently no custom builds for Snapdragon, all development has been made on Exynos.

Fast Charge is a Qualcomm Snapdragon feature. Exynos is made by Samsung and doesn't have Fast Charge.
Also, a warning beforehand: The P900 Exynos and P907A AT&T LTE edition (no other versions, just those) have serious issues with random reboots, black screens, blue screens and screen flickering. You may want to avoid those.

I had no issues with reboots until the last update. Now it happens all the freaking time. It's almost to the point where I need to find a different device, perhaps move back to a 2014 10.1 as this is totally unacceptable for such an expensive tablet.

Your signature says you're on a custom ROM though. Is that the ROM's fault or the latest Samsung software?
I'm still on stock KOT49H.P900UEU1ANC5 , rooted with custom recovery (TWRP). I do get the flickering from time to time (once every week or two) which I fix with a dalvic cache cleaning in TWRP but I rarely get reboots.

Had the issue before the custom ROM. Moved to Custom hoping a different kernel would solve things. I did notice a few minutes ago that my Wanam Xposed system server fix seems to have become unchecked. I checked it and rebooted. Here's hoping that's all it was. Either that or keeping fingers crossed the new firmware fixes it.

Thanks for all of info.
I may just wait to see what Samsung shows at CES in January.
Maybe grab a used or reburb to hold me over. Euro version for sure.

[Q] So many tablets!! Which one?

At the moment, I have the original Galaxy Tab. I was looking into upgrading, but there are so many choices. Was considering the Galaxy Tab 7.7, Motorola Xoom, Galaxy Tab 10.1 and the Transformer Prime.
Now, generally this would be "duh, just get the Prime!", but I've been reading about all the issues people are having, and that Asus is coming out with a better version later on in the year. So, should I wait or just buy the Prime?
In no particular order I'm looking for
A) Active development community, as I will root and flash any device I buy, its inevitable.
B) Long battery life.
C) GSM capability (when traveling)
D) Expandable memory via card slot
Size isn't really an issue, and even though the 10.1 has a great display, I'll still be stuck with whatever amount of storage space I choose to buy it with. Development on the 7.7 just seems to be starting, and for the 7.0 plus seems very bare (also starting?).
What do you guys think? I'm open to any and all suggestions!

I would go for Galaxy tab 7 (p1000) ... Just because i dont like the 10 one its too big ...
though if you want prime, you will probably get new software version when they release it ...
but i will continue speaking about galaxy tab :
a)i had it all stock, didn't want to mess since it was supposed to be sold.
b)It surely has good battery life.
c)yes
d)yes
so i bet the p6800 is even better, and a golden middle between 7 and 10 inch... i just don't know about the availability of the roms... check in advance that on xda for sure
Does it have a expandable memory though?

the p1000 has it, also the p6800 has it i guess, since its just improved version ... and on site it says so
I think the Transformer prime is your best bet. It's battery life is pretty darn long especially if you buy the keyboard dock as well.
No gsm though right? I suppose I could just use the phone to tether. You think I should wait for the new one coming out in the middle of the year, that supposedly fixes those wifi and gps issues people are having with it?

Tab 7.7 old and discontinued? Should I buy it?

Thinking of buying the 7.7 but is has no jb support. It it old and discontinued?
Verizon has it on clearance CPO sellout for $279.
Should I just get the Nexus 7 with jb?

In my opinion, Tab 7.7 is great device until now. It is still unclear whether jb will come for p6800 or not.
but as you can see the support from samsung itself isn't that great, so I would suggest to make an alternative

Personally I have both devices and both provide me with enjoyable experiences. Is the 7.7 EOL? Probably but it's still a very worthwhile device especially viewing mp4 movies and any other visually-rich activities where space is an issue.
If you have the $280 to spare I'd pull the trigger. (You save FAR more than I did when I bought mine many months ago when it first came out!)

Same decision here and I chose the 7.7 after comparing to the Nexus. Even though its old and discontinued it still blows away the nexus IMHO. The screen on the 7.7 is miles better and you have the SD card slot. Also I am running JB 4.2.2 flashed following information from these very forums.

Which ROM? How's it running? Just curious. CWM protects from the brickbug so was just waiting.....
Old, maybe, but other than the Toshiba try to find another tablet with an almost 8" Super AMOLED+
Ended up getting the Galaxy Tab 2 7" at Frys for $219 with JB installed. Saved $150.

Hope it will give you much pleasure despite the fact that it is a low-end device, opposed to the high-end 7.7
GT 7.7 is better built quality than Nexus 7.
it's supposed to get JB as Samsung Thailand says.
but when this happen, already Android 5.0 will be out, and maybe 7.0 inch tablets with Full HD displays will out also, so if you like software upgrades fast and clean, go to nexus cause Samsung sucks at it, or wait until Full HD tablets with Android 5.0 is out.
it's still a great tablet. such excellent build quality, expandable memory, screen is amazing people comment on it all the time, option to get a pay as you go sim, keep it in there and get data as needed on a month to month basis, still quite fast with ICS. JB would be nice but not 100% needed plus there are some ROM options that provide JB like features.
im flying overseas this summer, right now there is no other tablet i would want with me. i can put multiple movies on here and watch them, and enjoy wifi wherever, and if really needed get wireless data also. what else could you ask for? well a nexus device with this kind of build quality, expandable memory and this screen. but that is not happening yet.
Dude ... the screen is really enough reason to buy that awesome device .. the only tab with Super AMOLED Plus screen !
and btw .. Samsung announced that it's going to have Jelly Bean update in Q2 i guess

How's responsiveness?
Preparing to replace my Note with either this or the Z1.
Just wondering:
1.) How is lag and hangs on the Note3? Did any show up while you are using it? Preferably while you are doing the benchmark or under heavy load.
2.) How about accuracy of the screen? The note is off by a few pixels how about this? I think this was well documented problem on the note, I'll describe it if you are not familiar with it.
3.) Touch responsiveness? The note is slow on the lockscreen when you have pin lock. Try something like 160425 as your pin (no that is not my pin, I just randomly chose a 6 digit that can take advantage of both thumbs so you can press them very fast one after the other with preferably 1-2ms lag between each press), then press them 1 after the other very fast preferably on 2handed use. A lot of the times 1 of them won't register or will register wrong for the Note1. How about the Note3?
I'm a bit of a power user and the lag on the Note is annoying and is still laggy even after being rooted and flashed with slim bean. Just wanted to hear your take on the note3. As this might be the tie breaker for me.
I'm very disappointed with the Note (I wanted to throw it away after 6months of use but is under a 2yrs contract so... yeah) Mostly with TW and the screen, I even have ghost presses on the screen (luckily it was replaced while in warranty). So kinda want to stay away from sammy this round but between the Note3 and the Z1, the Note3 has the advantage of 3gb ram and 32gb storage (I'm on smart and I'm sure they will only have this version) on the hardware side and sammy usually have the bootloader unlocked, I expect this one to be the same while the Z1 will have it locked and I will lose a lot of the built-in features for unlocking it. But the lag on my Note is a big downer for getting another sammy that I'm willing to fore go the advantage of sammy for sony.
Thanks =)

Most probably your correct on the estimated launch price as Samsung will be selling the 32gb variant unlike before where they launch the 16gb for note2. Personally, I really prefer the 32gb and I'm very happy that Samsung decided to scrap the 16gb variant for note 3. Please update us on any new details with regards to launch date, venue and most especially the reservation of units.. Thanks and more power to you! :fingers-crossed:

1. with the new proc i found it snappier than the stock tw from the s4 variant. i dont usually benchmark tests since they are not that reliable but if there's one i use 3dmark (scores excellent almost above the Sony z1 line)
2. the accuracy of the screen has vastly improved from both the note 1 and 2 (which both i also own)...the pen is precise and pin point
3. touch response is excellent and the whole screen now even those at the sides of the bezel can be touched controlled as well...
i have almost all the galaxy lines of samsung and the note 3 delivers even on stock...what more if you can mod it, too much potential

AT&T Tab 4 8.0 Owners

Figured I'd stay a thread for those of us who have an AT&T Tab 4 SM-T337A variant. Anyone weeks have one? What are your thoughts? I'll probably post some in the coming days as I use it more.
I have the T-Mobile version, but it's pretty much the same. I am moving from an AT&T tab 3 7.0 and so far I am not sure if I'm impressed yet. One thing I have noticed is that there is not an ambient light sensor on this model. It's a small quirk, but something I feel should have been added. Overall build quality is ok, and it seems responsive to me, but I think once my case shows up I will be more inclined to use it as I normally do without worrying so much about scuffing it up.

The lack of an ambient light sensor was a real head scratcher for me too, especially because the Galaxy Tab 3 had one. I also noticed that they downgraded the camera. The Tab 3 8.0 had a 5 megapixel autofocus camera while the Tab 4 8.0 has a 3 megapixel fixed focus camera. Further, they seem to have gotten rid of the stereo speakers in favor of one mono speaker on the back. I don't get these decisions at all. I realize that the Tab 4's biggest upgrade over the Tab 3 is the processor, but did adding a quad core processor really make it so they had to skimp on the light sensor, speakers, and camera? If they needed to take something away, I'd have preferred they get rid of the IR blaster or vibrator, personally.
Sent from my Galaxy S5 using Tapatalk
Actually, I didn't have the vibrate function on the tab 3 and was didsappointed. I was happy to have one on the 4, but I have no idea why I would need it now. I would have rather seen that left out too. I'm really hoping to a root exploit soon so I can tinker with this one at least. I didn't really pay attention to the camera because I really don't use it. I really only use my tab for streaming music and poking around on the interwebs.
Sent from my SM-T337T using Tapatalk
Essentially, what Samsung said to us is "Here is the Galaxy Tab 4 8.0. It's $30 cheaper than last year's model, with a better processor and a vibrator, but we downgraded the speakers and camera and got rid of auto brightness."
This sounds absurd when you put it that way. I would have preferred "Here's the Galaxy Tab 4 8.0. It's $30 cheaper than last year's model, with a better processor, but we had to get rid of the IR blaster and continue to leave out a vibrator." To me, that sounds much more reasonable.

From what I read, the Tab line has been downgraded to make room for the pro series which had all the bells and whistles. I just picked my 8" model up yesterday. So far it does what I want just a bit laggy at times, hopefully something a recovery and kernel could fix.

LTE Tab 4 models have Kids Mode removed
I spoke to Samsung Telecommunications US headquarters this week out of frustration of not having the Kids Mode App on our two new AT&T LTE Samsung Tab 4 devices and have confirmed that all LTE models have had the Kids Mode feature removed from their devices. And, the most frustrating thing is actually on Samsung's own website for the individual, specific LTE models which lists the Kids Mode feature as a key selling point. And yes, the first thing people say is: "Have you checked for the latest updates (Android & Samsung.) And, the answer is yes. I have confirmed this removal with Samsung and notified them that this is indeed a huge problem. Maybe not so much for me or for you who may thrive off all things tech, but for the grandparent or parent buying this for their child with the sole purpose of using this key selling feature to help protect their child. Their frustration and discomfort in trying to use what they've been sold and not being able to will only push them away from Samsung or other Android devices. It is a disservice to both the Samsung and Android names as well as to the customer. And it makes us maybe reflect on what we can learn from apple (which pains me to say): when they advertise a feature, it does work on their devices especially on the new ones and even more so on a product listed to have the feature. It's both disappointing and embarrassing to see as both a Samsung and Android supporter.
And one more thing that pains me as an AT&T employee, which I am but not in mobility, that must be said!.. Samsung and AT&T have thought of our kids protection and replaced the Kids Mode with another app. FAMIGO!.. which is a PAID subscription of $4.99 a month to protect your Child!! THINKING of this even more gets me so infuriated!! What an absolute disservice and embarrassment!!
Can anyone get the Kids Mode AK ported from the WiFi version so we can use it on this device?

I am testing FlashFire now for compatibility, so far so good it has no problems updating SuperSU thru flashing a zip file action. unfortunately there is no OEM firmware other than the original NF4 firmware, I will be looking into a build from the NK2 system dump however, system dumps are notoriously buggy.
Please don't ask for ETA's don't PM me with questions, give me a couple weeks to iron out any inconsistencies and we will se what happens.

Please don't ask for ETA's don't PM me with questions, give me a couple weeks to iron out any inconsistencies and we will se what happens.

When you use flashfire, do you have a black screen while it is carrying out the options you chose? Mine goes black but after it is complete, reboots normal. Scared the crap out of me the first time I used it. Lol

It's nice to find a thread for AT&T Tab 4 8.0 owners. Are all of you on AT&T? I got mine unlocked, and I'm planning to use mine with TMO. It already works for their paid plans, but it can't sign up for their 200mb free plan (apparently because this tablet is not in their eligible database). I'm toying with the idea of flashing a TMO ROM to see if that'll work, but I'm guessing it won't.

Out of curiosity without safestrap for this device, how do you plan on flashing another ROM to this phone since the bootloader is locked and visa vi no custom recovery?
Voice call
Has anyone figured out how to enable voice calls on the SM-T337A? I've rooted with Towelroot and tried to update the modem.bin file with the one for SM-T337T. No luck. Advance thanks.

some noob questions.

I went to the development section and it seem pretty dead there, especially for the LTE version. So here are the questions.
1. Why are they so empty, like there is no custom ROMs? Is it because the stock version is pretty good or just the lack of motivated dev?
2. Is the LTE version worth it? I mean yes it's $100 more, but only 16GB extra.
3. If I put AT&T phone sim in the LTE version, can I use it as a phone as well? If so, that sound like it worth extra to pay for LTE, than just trying to tether.
4. How is the stylus compared to something like the Galaxy Note series? I used Note 2 and 3, and their stylus is excellent. It's Wacom with pressure sensitivity after all.
1. Probably no developers with the tablet. There is also less of a need with xposed modules working. Oh, and I just bought mine a couple days ago, but I'm more of a kernel person than a firmware developer.
2. Is it worth it to you for the extra storage and mobile data?
3. No. At least not normally. You might be able via Google voice or hangouts.
4. Not as good as a note, but better than nearly all conductive styli I've tried in the best.

The storage doesn't mean much to me. My usage of the device is a bit differ from most ppl. I currently using AT&T note 3, that read locked boot loader to you. I prefer having microSD slot to store the pictures I shot(from dSLR). And I would use stylus if I want models to sign release form. I don't mind the size as much, as I would normally carry some sort of small messenger bag. I guess I'll wait a little while to see if there is a update coming for note 3 anytime soon, or I may be looking to buy international note 4 instead.
