[Q] Getting font on Moto x - General Questions and Answers

I have rooted many devices before and I'm quite experienced with it. But there is one question I am concerned with. I would like to root my Moto x soon (2013 edition) and I was wondering if I had to unlock boot loader to install a font. Or could I just root my phone without unlocking boot loader and change the font, thanks in advance for the help.

Rooting Nexus S without unlocking bootloader

I've seen many different rooting methods for the nexus s but unfortunately they don't allow rooting without unlocking the bootloader like the samsung vibrant allows is there anyway I can root my phone without unlocking the bootloader?
why I don't want to unloack the boot loader because I'm fine with the stock ROM on my nexus s. I was really into installing ROMs and things with my Vibrant but the Nexus S feels really complete so I feel like I don't need to unlock my boot loader
Also for the first time I have decent signal in my house after switiching from my blackberry to android so I don't wanna change my baseband and my battery life is good too so I don't want to mess with the kernel
Nope, can't root w/o unlocking bootloader anymore.
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA App
If it means anything, u can re-lock the bootloader just as easily as u can unlock it.
Also, u can unlock and root without messing with baseband or kernel.

You don't have to change any of those things with an unlocked boot loader. Unlocking the boot loader does only one thing, unlock the boot loader. It doesn't need a custom rom. You don't even have to install a custom recovery if you don't want to.
All stock OTAs will continue to work as well - it will just allow you to load a custom recovery and the su binary if you please, with the ability to relock at any point in the future if desired.
One of the features of the nexus line of phones (and upcoming unlockable boot loaders) is that you aren't reliant on finding an exploit to elevate privileges in order to gain root access - you simply unlock the boot loader and you are free to do as you please (or not do if you choose).

[Q] Custom ROM, locked boot loader, developer device?

Hello All,
I have a certain scenario that I'm considering for a Moto X Developer Edition. I'll explain why I would like this configuration below.
So here goes: Is it possible to unlock a boot loader on a Moto X Dev Edition, install a custom ROM (Paranoid Android), and then re-lock the boot loader?
Normally, I would just leave the boot loader unlocked and be done with it, but work requires that I have a non rooted, locked boot loader phone (verified through MobileIron) and they're paying my phone bill to boot. Can't argue with not having a phone bill, right?
Not sure if it's possible, but I am just putting the question out there. Tried to find a post about this on xda using a couple of different words, but no luck.
Thank you, in advance, for any advice you can offer me.

rooting droid developers edition?

I have the droid maxx developers edition with an unlocked boot loader. I have read that with an unlocked boot loader the new droids are easy to root but haven't seen and methods. I'm really new at this but can follow directions. Like after soft bricking my maxx trying to upgrade to 4.4 I restored to 4.2.2 using ADB Telnet ETC. I am now on 4.4 and would like to root can anyone send me in the right direction. The boot loader is unlocked.
Also a site, page, glossery of terms like Side Loading ETC. That would be very helpful.

AFAIK, unlocking bl is a prerequisite for rooting. Or else, the device wouldn't be able to execute 'fastboot flash' or 'fastboot boot' adb commands.
As for the ad issue, try 'dns.adguard.com' w/o quotes as private dns address (dns over tls).
because you need to modify the boot partition by flashing the patched boot. hence it has to be unlocked. otherwise you will not be able to flash the patched boot.
as simple as this.
By default, the bootloader only supports official signed images from the manufacturer. Since no engineering bootloader is available and we don't have the signing tools, the next best thing is to disable the restriction.
thanks everyone! this sure cleared things up. anyway is there a available custom rom? like cyanogenmod for phone 5?
