My M8 screen is broken, apparently an LCD leak. Are there any cheaper repair options out there than the $200 quotes I've been getting? Thanks for any tips...

If its under 6 months old htc offers one free screen replacement with is 6 months from the date you receive it, or prom purchase date or contract start date.

Alright here's the deal. I was walking today and my phone slipped from my hands and onto the ground, thus cracking the screen. I bought the phone on July 25, which is 29 days from today. Tomorrow (August 24) will be the 30th day. Technically, I'm allowed to enroll in mobile insurance within 30 days of my purchase date, which will be tomorrow. I plan on going in the morning to enroll in insurance, and then request a new phone.
Any tips or pointers I need to insure that ATT follows through with allowing me the insurance and buying the replacement for $200?
Call them do not show them the phone and you can enroll anytime bit i think you gotta wait 30 days after enrollment in order to file a claim
After I enroll, I'll probably just go to the ATT store and see what they say. Because having a broken phone sucks, especially to this degree. I didn't see anywhere saying you had to wait 30 days, but who knows. If I show the phone, they won't let me enroll. I was having my dad (Whos the account holder) enroll me tomorrow morning before I go in.
Id just try to sell it for 250-300 then pay early termination fee to att and then open a new line and get the hox since now its price has dropped a lot. At least this eay u wont end up with a refurbished phone

Just look online for a replacement screen. Then youtube the replacement. I haven't looked at the steps my self but If were a betting man I would say a heat gun and a jeweler screwdriver would be all you need.

It is difficult to replace this phone's screen because it is attached to something. Iknow a guy he replaced the screen but ended up breaking the volume key
AT&T claimed it would be insurance fraud, so I had to call HTC and send it in to them. No idea how much that's gonna cost.

That's what I've heard, which is what ATT would've charged for the insurance claim
it almost makes sense to add a dummy line for $10 bucks a month and pick up a refurbed one for $20

True. Only problem is its my dad's line (I'm 19) And then we'd have to cancel a line.

the good thing is, you'll get YOUR phone back and HTC will repair it right.
Sorry this happened. it sucks.
Can you make phone calls with your phone or it does not turn on?

Yes, everything works except for the fact that the glass is shattered and bits are falling out. I guess that means it might be cheaper since its just the outer glass, but I'd rather HTC charge a little more and fix it all right.
I'm glad I'll get MINE back, and that everything will be fixed correctly through HTC. Plus its not a super long trip from MO (My location) to Texas (HTC)

Until you get it replaced or whatever, cover the screen with a screen protector, or better yet, some clear packing take. Don't risk getting injured!
just dropped mine too, the screen was shattered. but I've had it for over 3 months. so who should I contact? At&t or HTC? I know that I'm probably in for an expensive repair already

If you bough insurance when you got the phone, ATT. They will charge you $200 for the deductible.
If not, go HTC. They will charge around $220 (From reports I've heard), basically the same as ATT. You could go somewhere local and get it fixed for cheaper probably.. But I'd rather have HTC do it professionally, cause they'll do it right.
Fix it yourself. If you have some skill its only costs you under $20 for glass panel and digitizer. If you aren't sure how to separate the glass panel from LCD. You can buy the whole screen includes LCD for $80 from ebay

You could do this. But. I've yet to hear of a single instance where self-repair was successful.
Mines cracked as well. I ordered a new screen. Seems like no one out there can confirm that a replacment for sceen only is workable. I'm affraid I've waisted 20 bucks.
I'm going to go ahead and order the LCD and try to just replace the glass first. I'll leave an update in this thread when I find out.
Ok so as the title says, I'm looking to find out what people are receiving for warranty replacements for this phone. I've had it since launch and accidentally shattered the screen recently so I'm looking to replace it somehow. I do have the insurance on it which is of course $200 to make a claim, which blows... My question is this, are the newer units people are getting less problematic, or are they maybe sending people the new One X+ lol (a long shot, I know)....I have never dealed with at&t insurance before as I just defected to them from sprint earlier this year. I just hope to get a little more for my money if I spend $200 through at&t to replace it, vs spending $300 to buy a nexus 4 to use til my upgrade (next December....). Anyone with a valid opinion will be thanked.
you'll get a one x.
Well yeah... I'm just wondering if there have been newer hardware revisions that have solved some of the past complaints, and whether I'd get a refurb or new device.

Likely a refurbished from at&t or htc... I bought square trade insurance.. Which is nice because they will replace your phone with a refund if they can't fix it. And it is was only 100 dollars but if I break it I do have to spend another 90 dollars, although if I were to get a new 2 year I could probably be spending around 30$ for a new one x or maybe 130 for a one x +..) (termination fee would be down to 280 and the one x + is dropping pretty soon I think and that's better then spending 600 dollars. If you are within 30 days you can buy it.. But anyways I think at&t and htc only send you refurbished phones. You are better off replacing the screen... Or ask if they can replace the screen...
My N5 has a cracked screen (just the outer glass -- not the screen itself) and at my age I no longer have the eyesight, dexterity, or patience to do the repair myself. So I am looking at taking it to a repair shop and expect a sizable charge to replace the screen.
So if it's going to cost close to $200 for the repair, maybe I should just order a new one. Mine is a 32Gb, but I would be just as happy with a 16Gb model for $350 (I only got the 32Gb because that was what was still in stock on release day). I could then sell my cracked N5 to someone who could do the repair on the cheap and either have themselves a very nice phone or could resell it.
What could I get for a white 32Gb N5 with cracked front glass? $100? Maybe $150?
Searching around Ebay it looks like people are getting $150-180 for the 32GB model with a cracked screen. Just the screen seems to cost $130-$150, but I would take it to the repair shop and see what they would charge before making a decision.
What country are you in? Look for an LG repair store, they will do it for around $110 if I am not mistaking.

The only convenient repair shop wants $225, so I'll just go ahead and order a new one and then see what I can get for the cracked one.
Call LG I'm sure they will charge less than 200.
Supposedly lg charge 150 believe

Must be REALLY convenient.
With the price of the Nexus 5, I think the cost of the repair is almost pointless...
Even if you don't quite break even with selling the broken one on eBay, you'll have a brand new device with a full warranty and one that wasn't dropped, opened and reassembled. I think you've made the right choice!

Yeah, I didn't realize that having a phone with a cracked screen is actually considered "cool" in some circles, so the ones going on eBay will probably not be repaired. This will work out OK for me and I'll end up with a new phone as you said.
Repair it !!

So I lost my phone and for 150$ deductible Asurion sent me new phone, it will be in my hands tomorrow.
so since the phone was launched 2 weeks ago, will I get new one or refurbished like new?
is there any way to check that when I get phone?

Because they use New phones when they don't have refub, since the phone is launched 18 days ago maybe they don't have refub yet

Not really a way to check. You could check it with phone info to see but those stats are probably reset by Samsung anyways on refurbs. I wouldn't worry though. I have gotten refurbs before and never had any issues. If anything it's got something fixed that plagued other buyers. Like the flash issue, scratched screen, auto rotate bug, etc...
So I got new phone. It looks like new. But white color on the back looks little bit darker, and it's more reflective then my friends S6. Like its matte white.
I don't maybe it's different production, or maybe it's refubrished with changed glass on the back. You can see fingerprints easier then on my friends phone.
What do you think?
Can I ask Asurion to send new one?
Even if the glass is changed, did they change it with same quality less?

No you can't ask for a new one. It's in the insurance contract that it will be new or like new. I think you are just being ocd about it. Does it function how its supposed to? Is it a galaxy s6? Anything else is irrelevant.
And also flash is always on
just got a replacement Edge from them for a cracked screen and it was new and they told me on the phone that it is likely for the first couple months they will be sending out the new ones they have in stock.
however i will mention that i am dropping Asurion for the Samsung Plan since it is a ONE TIME $129 and then for the S6 with a full coverage for 2 years with i believe for the non-Edge $75 deductible and HERE is the link i have for my Edge but you can find the standard S6 from there as well.

My thoughts exactly! Samsung policy does NOT cover lost or stolen! Might not happen very often but all it takes is one time and not only are you out the cost of the insurance, but you're also out the cost of the phone! :crying:
Asurion costs about the same when you calculate it and they offer protection for lost and stolen. I have used them two times now for a cracked screen (not on my s6 edge) and they always have provided me with very good, if not new, replacements. :good:
Hello, so my situation is I just dropped my OPO two days ago and the screen is cracked and phone unusable (I am using my Galaxy SII skyrocket as a backup but it's pretty slow/can't handle much even even with Liquid smooth running on it). My OPO turns on and all but touch screen doesn't work. Anyways with the OnePlus Two supposedly coming out soon do you think I should wait and just buy that phone or should I pay to get my screen fixed or send it into insurance for a replacement and pay the $100 dollar deductible and they would send me a comparable replacement in this case she said the HTC One M8 and then I send them my phone after I receive the device from them. I don't know what the quality is of Asurion insurance replacement phones, I just assume that they were other peoples devices that were sent in and then "fixed up" by someone there. Also I looked here around town and the one place quoted me at $189 for the repair and that they don't stock the parts for the phone and so there a special order and it would take a few days for parts to arrive., I also checked at another place but they haven't responded back to me yet. So any ideas on what my best option is
1: Send it into Asurion pay $100 deductible and receive a One M8 or possbily Galaxy S5 if I ask for that one and they have one in stock (quality of there devices?)
2: pay a local repair shop to fix the screen (only quote as of this post was for $189) Edit I was also just quoted 135+Tax by another shop and again special order parts so it could take anywhere from a couple of days to a week or so for parts to arrive
3: Keep the device and just buy/wait for the OnePlus two and then sell this one for like 125-175 bucks on Swappa's Boneyard (Right now I see a 16GB model with cracked screen for sale at $150 on there and mines the 64 GB model but would need to figure out how to wipe the device 100% then if I do as the screen is unusable)
