Ok so as the title says, I'm looking to find out what people are receiving for warranty replacements for this phone. I've had it since launch and accidentally shattered the screen recently so I'm looking to replace it somehow. I do have the insurance on it which is of course $200 to make a claim, which blows... My question is this, are the newer units people are getting less problematic, or are they maybe sending people the new One X+ lol (a long shot, I know)....I have never dealed with at&t insurance before as I just defected to them from sprint earlier this year. I just hope to get a little more for my money if I spend $200 through at&t to replace it, vs spending $300 to buy a nexus 4 to use til my upgrade (next December....). Anyone with a valid opinion will be thanked.
you'll get a one x.
Well yeah... I'm just wondering if there have been newer hardware revisions that have solved some of the past complaints, and whether I'd get a refurb or new device.

Likely a refurbished from at&t or htc... I bought square trade insurance.. Which is nice because they will replace your phone with a refund if they can't fix it. And it is was only 100 dollars but if I break it I do have to spend another 90 dollars, although if I were to get a new 2 year I could probably be spending around 30$ for a new one x or maybe 130 for a one x +..) (termination fee would be down to 280 and the one x + is dropping pretty soon I think and that's better then spending 600 dollars. If you are within 30 days you can buy it.. But anyways I think at&t and htc only send you refurbished phones. You are better off replacing the screen... Or ask if they can replace the screen...

She is not as tech savy as I am and Feels she won;t use 80% of the phone and would rather have my N97 as she knows Symbian....So I may be selling her week old Captivate. (Or keep it as a back up)
What should I ask for it on a BUY IN NOW basis on Ebay. I have 102 feedback and 100% positive (Tombo7777) I don;t want bidding jut put up a good price for a qucil sale should she decide for sure. Anything less that $300 and I will likely keep it as a back up to mine. As Insurance costs $5 a month with a $100 deductable. I don;t buy Extended Warranties on anythingor phone insurance,
Ask for $400
Galaxy s rules while the rest. Well they just lumber behind and drool.
I would say as BUY IT NOW, maybe $380 if you want a pretty quick sale.
week old, sell price online for new without contract from afew places is around 499$ so anywhere from 375-450$ would be good. but then again if you unlock it you could get another $100 for it be unlocked so like 450-550$
YEah I am not sure if I want to sell it yet. She needs to use the N97 for a week (as long as she had the Sammy) before I feel she will make an informed choice. In the mean time I am using it as a "training device" for me. Rooting, unrooting installing ROMS etc....So fasr I am able to go form JF6 to JH7 and to Froyo and back without issues using Master Clear. I want to become fluent in Android as I believe this will be the platform for all my phones in the future.
N97s are going for nearly $300!!!!! I would not be too brokenhearted if she decided to keep the Captivate. The Samsung is worth more than $100 over the N97 I would think.. Damm.

Yeah thats what i do on Ebay....Low priced Buy It Now....with zero minimums. I sold two contract 32GB 3GS iphones for $600 two weeks after they were released within minutes of posting....In fact I decided not to sell one and try it out for another week to make sure I did not like it.....and then sold it again within minutes.
I paid ATT $150 for both phones so $350 plus PP and Ebay costs is likely what I would sell it for BIN. If I unlock it I'll add another $100.
from what i see on ebay new mt4g selling for around 380...im not trying to "flip" this phone but in a year or whenever i decide to upgrade i would sell and from what it seems ill be lucky to get 125-150...when other phones stay in the 225-300 range
anyone else notice this?
yeah and its because of the pricing on amazon and tmobile, which is priced at 79.99 for a 2 year while the others are still at 129.99 and even at 199.99. This comes from tmobile and HTCs contract and their goals for selling the device. It sucks but the positive that i see is that it can either become a big community with development ?
I sold my 20 month old G1 for $110 on eBay when I got the Vibrant last July. Due to all the issues with the Vibrant, I sold it when the MT4G came out. At that time, the Vibrant wasn't even out for 4 months, but I was only able to get $300 for it. From what I understand, they are going for even less on Craigslist.
The moral of the story? If, in a year or so, you are able to get $150 for the MT4G, it's not exactly horrible. There are other phones in the same class that probably won't even fetch that much.

I just sold 2 HTC Evo's I got on launch day in June for $300 a piece. If you keep the original box that seems to add resale value for some reason I don't really get. Also having extra accessories to throw in like cases/chargers can be the difference between them choosing your phone and another.

Agreed. I always keep all the boxes and printed literature that comes with my electronics. I also threw in two gel cases and an extra Realook screen protector.

+1 on keeping all the box and everything it came with. It proves to the buyer that the item is not stolen and will fetch a MUCH higher price.
Here's my resale performance:
iPhone 3G 16GB (one year old) = $350
iPhone 3GS 32GB (1.5 years old) = $400
Samsung Captivate (2 months old) = $340
I got $360 for my Nexus One on eBay, which I let go after getting root on the MT4G. Having all original stuff including the box definitely helps.
i keep all my old phones... THEY ARE MINE!!!!!
i have on my desk 3 G1's, 2 MT3G's, 1 ION, 1 N1 (ok this is actually on loan), 1 G2 (gf), 1 MT4G
why did u keep ur g2 when u got ur mt4g ? No contracts?

I won't buy a used phone unless the person is selling the orig box and lit. The bar code can be gone but somebody selling the box along with the phone tells me that they will have taken better care of their phone. Maybe not true but I've purchased several phones off ebay and never have had a bad experience with the condition of the phone.

Having a box and oem stuff at least tells you the guy did not picked it up from some unlucky soul at a starbucks or local library.
Resale value holds steady
Bought a G1 for 80 with contract
6 months later traded G1 + 50 for HD2
1 month later traded HD2 for Nexus One
8 month later traded Nexus One + 50 for G2
1 week later traded G2 for Nexus One + Dock + Cash
1 month later traded Nexus One + Dock for MT4G
Paid 180 and have had the G1, HD2, Nexus One, G2, and now Mytouch 4g and my 2 year deal is up in March.
Wow all these trading and selling, nice! I've kept all my phones till like a week ago, when I sold the MyTouch 3G to a co worker for $150, and traded my G1 for a Tattoo. LOL. I still have the Nexus One and The Vibrant to play with.
I just filed a claim to replace my sensation, it got ran over. I thought Insurance replacement was $100 (deductible). Has anyone had to claim their sensation yet or know of anyone paying more than $100? My Evo 4G was $100 to have replaced a few months ago. I had always heard that it was between $50 and $100 to have one replaced, depending on the model. Thanks for any help.
I was just checking Asurion website and it says $130 deductible.

I know this is a question but I figured since it didn't pertain to the actual operation of the sensation, that this would be the appropriate place for it. Plz dont H8 if i was wrong.

Not 100% sure on the Sensation. But on the MT4G it was 130.00. You might assume it will be this much or more on the sensation.
Its 130 just as the others said. I just went through the process.

i always hated asurion from when i had a sidekick 08. my phone got stolen and i had it replaced and they charged me 130$ i was like wtf the phone i a year and a half old and they dont even sell them on the site anymore... (told this to the agent i was dealing with and there was a long pause. that when i said forget it ill just buy a G1 )
Thanks a lot. I kinda had it out with a few of them for hanging up on me lol. Thought maybe they were getting the last word!
I'm done here Mods, my Question was answered. Close if you like.
On the other hand you might be able to get a phone through them a lot cheaper than from tmobile. They said if i didnt return my phone in 15 days they would charge me $250. $250 + $130 = $380. Thats pretty cheap if you get one before they start get remans in.

Yeah. I lost my Samsung Vibrant in the Ohio River while boating. I physically didn't have it but they still sent me a letter trying to charge me the $250 since i didn't send them my old one. How in the hell am I supposed to send it back when it's on the bottom of the Ohio River? That conversation turned into an argument which lasted approx 40 minutes. Worst customer experience ever. I think that Asurion is worthless, personally.
Hey guys,
I currently have a Moto D3. I like it, but I have oil under the screen, leaving a huge black spot on my screen. It's transparent, but it makes things pretty difficult to view... And insurance replacement is apparently $100 US... (this is BS)...
So for a few hundred more I'm considering just paying full retail for a better phone.
I love my physical KB but I think it's about time to let it go, lol.
My question to you guys, as I've been in and out of things in the Android community lately, where should I look towards for my new replacement?
Anything in the near future I should just wait a month or two for?
Thanks guys!

You didn't know that? Read your contract before signing up for ANY insurance. Verizon insurance is $7 a month and depending on the plan you have a $99 deductible. For long time good customers att lets you upgrade your phone before 24 months. So really unless you are in the habit of destroying phones on a regular basis if you damage your phone it makes sense to forgo the insurance and limp along with a damaged phone for a few months and then upgrade as usual. I have never irreparably damaged a phone. So $7 month for five years is $420 saved. Add $100 for the deductible and now you are talking $520. I can get a pretty nice brand new phone for that much.
If you must get a warranty check out Squaretrade.
When I originally signed up it was only $50.
I replaced my D1 for $50... but yeah, you're right, I didn't really think twice about it when I upgraded.
ive had to use the insurance a few times (once stolen, once screen just went dead, once phone would not boot anymore). its more than paid itself off for me over the years.
Friend of mine bought his epic 4g touch from best buy and got their insurace. Months later he cracked the screen so he went back to the store and had another shipped to him for free. Apparently best buy's insurance program doesnt have a $100 deductible like Sprint does.
look at your contract
I'm located in Ireland, and for €35 per year extra on our home insurance we have 3 mobile phones insured. My service provider wanted €9 per month. So it was a bit of a no brainer
Insurance sucks!
I never ever purchase insurance contact , but when I updating new phone contact. they always suggested me to get insurance

When you get a new phone go with a authorized retailer. I went to go wireless went I got my dx2 cause Verizon's main store could not figure out how to separate my line from my mothers family plan into my own line. But I got the go wireless very of insurance and it costs me $6 a month and its only $50 if I need to use it.

att has the htc one x for $20 as a refurb and a 2 year contract. i was going to get a new one for 100 but do you think i should save the 80 and get the refurb? any good or bad things about going refurb?
www.att.com/shop/wireless/devices/htc/one-x-gray-refurb.html?
I've heard a lot of nightmare stories about the refurbs. Not sure if they were all "purchased" refurbs, or warranty replacements, or if there is even a difference. But people have gotten pretty beat up refurbs for other devices. Plus, if its a refurb, it was returned for a reason. And they don't always fix everything that was wrong with it.
Plus, the warranty for a new phone is 1-year (brand new phone within 30 days, refurb or repair thereafter). I think the warranty for refurbs is only 90 days.
Everyone has a different budget, and different expectations. But for me, I'd spend the extra 80 bucks and get a brand new phone. Think I've read an article somewhere that says something to the effect of "don't buy refurbed electronics". But you can probably also find an article that says the exact opposite. Its all a matter of perspective. But IMO, its not worth it to get a refurb.

I'm a student and i don't think that 20 $ / 20 € is that much. The One X is a super nice mobile phone and i i would not have it, i would try to get one for 20$/€.
BUT I'm not sure bout that refurb thing.. If i also have bit more money i would by it elsewhere for 100 or more.. really nice mobile phone

Lol, theres probably about a 50% chance your going to get a xda members device that had a international rom flashed to it the day it was purchased.

Rerurbs for me have been really hit or miss, and like what was already said, I don't think they are covered for a full year.
Also, somebody the other day said the manufacturer reurbs were SIM locked, so if you ever plan on leaving AT&T with your One X you may want to consider that.
It's your money and your purchase, but personally I would spend the extra $80.
Just got my refurb yest. looks brand new not a single scratch on it.. but it is hit or miss. not to worried as I still have my galaxy nexus also..plus if push comes to shove i could still the sell the X for 250 or more and get something else. but so far im loving the X.. ( stock ). so no complaints here bout a refurb
