I have had my Xperia Ion for over a year now with zero issues. However, this week it has been shutting down for no reason at all and the intervals are getting shorter and shorter to the point where it is almost impossible to use it for anything. Along with this, the battery will jump to 1% from 85% in no time at all. It seems like the battery needs to be replaced, but what strikes me as odd is the fact that the phone only behaves this way with the sim card inserted. When the sim card is removed it typically does not act like this.
Does this sound like a battery or a simcard issue?

My dad was having problems with his Monet/Lobster 700tv and so lent it to me to have a look at (as I have one too).
I have found that his just seems to consume the battery, it can be empty within a day whereas mine lasts several.
I can't find a software reason for this, the bluetooth is off, it doesn't seem to make any difference if the phone is turned off (so it is not a radio issue?), the screen turns off within a minute.
If I swap the batteries between the phones, the battery in my dad's phone still empties quickly, so it can't be the battery.
If we only had the one we may think it was just the phone, but as they are so different it could be a hardware issue?
hi, i've got a problem with my vox, it cuts out completely very often. all power is lost, it is not just a shutdown. i did get it very slightly wet, and it seems this problem has developed since that happened. do you think this would be solved by getting a new battery? i came to this concliusion because there are now problems when it is plugged in, and i think the power runs through the battery when it is plugged in because it doesn't turn on without the battery in. the fault seems to happen when there is a high power drain: if i put wifi in then it dies after about a minute, and sometimes it will dies as i pick up a calll or part way through one. usually i am able to listen to music through headphones using tcpmp, but normally this will die after 40 minutes or so. the battery life as a whole is terrible, with about 2 hours of using the battery draining it, and the battery is about 2 years old so i guess it could be dead? i'm trying to decide whether to buy a new one ( probably the bulky 2200mah) or give up on a phone which is on its way out (no loudspeaker-i use vibrate). so yeah, is this the battery or the motherboard?
thanks
I would say it's the battery. I had the same problem with two batteries before.
i guess it is the battery at fault.
I've had the same problem and it was rectified by a battery change.
OK, so I've had my SM-P900 for about year now.
Suddenly just this week I am noticing my battery is draining considerably faster than usual and is also taking longer to charge. I was using a custom rom but have now switched back to the default 5.02 version that I installed via Kies.
So after a year do I really need to purchase a new battery?
I keep most everything off all the time and really haven't changed anything or how I use it in quite a few months so was wondering if I actually have to break down and purchase a new battery already.
Cheers
Read the threat : Flickering screen to see how to adjust the tip of battery cable closer in order to make better contact before replace a new battery, within one year the battery should still be good.
If you see the same thing with new battery, probably the battery connector has cracked solder joints and needs to be re soldered, common problem of Samsung tablets, not just only this model.
Lithium-Ion batteries generally last between 300-500 full charge cycles before they start losing power. A year is.. way too soon.
Does it also take longer to charge when the device is turned off completely?
In general a drain increase is caused by a software issue, mobile data or a bug. (or heat/cold.) (The difference between mobile data on and off with a 4G connection is 100-0% in deep sleep in 2 days with LTE, and 80 days in airplane mode.)
Signs of a dying battery include random discharges (it suddenly loses 30-70%, it's at 100 when you unplug and suddenly drops to 30%, or it's dead, you plug it in and turn it back on and it suddenly has 50% charge), random reboots and the device just not turning on at all for no apparent reason.
While it'll loose capacity eventually, that usually doesn't negatively affect the charging speed. (If anything it charges faster because it reaches 100% sooner.)
So assuming that I have a dead battery, is there a good replacement battery out there?
I have tried replacement batteries in the past and have found only subpar batteries on the market.
I bought a new battery on Amazon : 26$
This one is an original battery so at this price you should order one.
And about flickering issue, yes you should resolder connectors or changing the battery might solve this issue too (it worked for me)
Hi all
I've had my Xperia Z3 for about 2 years now (currently running Marshmallow), and over the past say 6-12 months the battery life has been ordinary (may or may not coincide with any software update, not that i recall).
More recently, i've had the phone do some funny things but it more or less has become unusable now since the last incident which was:
Battery dropped over a day down to 50% (which was about normal given the usage of it). The battery level then stayed at 50% for length of time, and then started flashing between 50% to 100%, then it died.
performed the reset and plugged it in again, the battery level was at 0%, dark red light flashing etc., charge reported from 1% to 29% to 100% rather quickly, eventually i could turn it back on but it went from 100% to 0% "shutting down" quickly.
so now it will charge and stay on at 100% for a period of time, but will either a) stay at 100% for hours then turn off, or b) slowly discharge to say 96% then suddenly die.
either way, when it is plugged in it will say 0% battery and slowly show charging to say 20-odd% then be at 100% charge (and the cycle repeats.)
If while it's at 100% i reset the phone it will restart at 0% and power off.
(at the moment I've removed the sim and am using a backup phone at the moment so the only usage it gets are some wifi access and podcast / music listening connected to bluetooth headphones)
oh, while i remember - when the phone has done this abrupt shutdown, upon recharge the bluetooth is always switched off, which is strange but makes me wonder if this is more sinister than simply battery issues.
The phone is out of warranty but there's a local phone repairs shop that have quoted me a reasonable enough price to replace the battery, so my question is: what are the chances that this is purely a battery problem and would it be a sound investment to spend $$ replace the battery or am i wasting my time and money and the phone has a nasty chip or motherboard issue and really is just halfdead?
Aside from these recent battery problems, I am fairly happy with this phone and don't want to pay $1k for a brand new phone just yet if i can avoid by spending under $100 for a new battery and giving it a life extension.
Any feedback welcome
Cheers
***EDIT***
Sorry, amateur mistake, this should have gone into the Xperia Z3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting section
can this thread be moved - please accept my apologies
I had that problem few times on different phones, battery dies.. You should replace it.
Replace the battery and you're good to go. If you've opened the back cover of your Z3 then maybe you should try considering to replace your battery by yourself. You could easily get one from aliexpress.
I just had my Xperia Z5's battery replaced due to it bloating up. After two weeks, I noticed that the battery indicator isn't working properly.
It would go down from 100% really fast (even during standby - not using the phone) but stay around 30% down for a really long time. No difference in usage. Then it also started restarting on its own even during standby. I would check my phone and it would need me to input my pin saying its required after a restart. Another instance, I was still typing out a text message and it restarted on its own. The battery was around 60% before it restarted but after it turns on again the battery indicator showed that its at 40 something %. I don't think the battery would drain that much just from restarting.
Also, just today, it won't charge properly anymore. It will detect the charger, like it would make the sound when you plug it in but the battery icon won't change to the charging icon and the battery will continue to drain. When turned off, it would show the Sony logo then battery level on the screen but will stay at 0% or whatever % it was left at and will continue draining.
So my phone just died earlier and I just went to plug it in hoping it would still work. The battery was stuck at 0% for the longest time so I just went and left it for a few hours. Coming back to it, I noticed that the LED indicator is green. I pressed the power button and it showed 100%, then I tried turning on the phone. It still turned on, showing 100% on the battery icon and could be used like usual.
I can still use the phone, barely, but this issue is really annoying. I'm not even sure if the next time it drains it would charge again.
So far, I've tried:
using a different cable and charger
doing a factory reset
doing a repair via Xperia Companion
But the issue still persists...
Is there anything else I can do on my end to fix this?
You should replace your battery
Hello.
I'm sorry to hear that your Xperia Z5 got this problem.
Here're some personal experiences:
1.Just replace a battery for it.My Xperia Z5 had same issue last month:Its battery lasts for only 2 or 3 hours, and charges much faster than before. Then I think maybe the battery life loss too much,so I bought a battery from taobao(A Chinese Website),then everything's fine just as when I buy it.
2.According to your description, maybe the sub board(It's responsible for charging and data transmission)is broken too.You can find a used one at ebay.
That's all.I hope this message can help you.And...I'm a Chinese so maybe you can't understand my Chinglish(It means "Chinese English" )...Sorry for that.
