[Q] Reason vs oneplus - ONE Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys, so my friend needs a new phone but he also has a Dell chrome book which he carries around all the time. The problem is that he is very rational. He definitely wants a smartphone and loves stock Android... So he was going to buy a moto g 4g. After telling my friend about the miracle phone from one plus he really started doubting the moto but now he still wants to buy the moto because he has a got a chrome book and the one plus adds nothing to him over the moto g especially because it is so hard to get an invite and the first preorder ducked and it is 100 euro more... Can someone help me convince him to buy a one plus... Or is he right about his moto g being the smarter buy? Thanks!! Ps you got an invite you don't need, he is your guy

The OnePlus One a miacle phone ? Are you serious ?
The only miracle here is people still buying this phone with all the known problems it has.

this late in the game I would suspect that there are much better buys than the one plus one and the moto g for that matter.

You mean like the yellow band and the touch screen responsiveness? I thought they fixed those?

Yeah? Like what? In Belgium, even the s4 and nexus 5 cost more than a oneplus-one

I got my phone in october and it has a big yellow band at the bottom of the sreen. It cant be fix.
I also have various touchscreen problems, random reboots, app crash, custom settings that disappear, same for some widgets, terrible signal reception. Some people have a lot of problem with LTE (I dont). Some people have problem with battery draining (I dont).
They have a terrible customer service, Im still waiting for an RMA (2 weeks ), some people waited 6 weeks for an RMA.
This phone is ONE big mistake.

Even the S5 ? What do you expect ? Are you for real ? The Oneplus One is a huge defect toy, thats why its only US$350.00. Its fast, it has an amazing battery life, but that's it.

Not really. My rma'd phone still has a very slight yellow band and touch issues, although its much better now (on acceptable grade), is still far from perfect. My old s3 is far better regarding touch sensitivity.
Its still a beast of a phone in everything else - battery for 2 days and 3gb ram are a whole new level for me.

I said s4, of course the s5 is a lot more expensive, are you going to ditch the one plus? Or give it a last try?

I guess I am lucky to get a one plus one with no known issues. I only have access to lte band 4 but I did use the Qualcomm tools to enable the other bands and should be getting access to band 2 soon. I have no yellow colors and touch screen works great. I think most users that do not have issues are not posting in XDA or one plus forums. Only real issue I have is how slow it charges.
Other options might be a zte phone or Dell or other higher end China brands

I came form a N5 and my OPO build date is Oct. No issues what so ever. Love the phone, I still have my N5 to play with the dev version of L. The N5 runs fantastic with L, but I've not used it since I got my OPO. If you can afford the N6, I would certainly get it, but if you don't want to be under the thumb of the carriers, I don't think you can do much better for near the price/features of the One. Also, I got my N5 when it first came out and you would of thought it was the worst made phone in the history of phones. I remember the same thing with the IP5, antenna gate! Most of the people who complain, are very vocal. Most of the people who don't have an issue don't really post. Any of the Samsung have so much bloat on them and its such a pita to get the same functionality you get out of the box with the One.

Yeah certainly true, thanks man! But still they only sold half a million and I keep seeing these complaints pop up since the launch of the OPO in July, maybe part of it is true... And how is your battery life, is it consistent? I a almost planning on selling my LG g2 to my friend and buying the one plus myself if I can get an invite

With so many people having issues, I wonder why I don't have any issues, NEVER had a random reboot. No touch issues whatsoever with any ROM/KERNEL.
I have a very slight yellow band, but its not really noticable compared some of the pictures that I've seen
Hands down the best phone I've ever used

You mean those problems that only affect a small percentage of the total units sold? The problems that have been blown way out of proportion? It's ridiculous to say the things you're saying about this phone just because you're having a bad experience. You're the minority.

That's because the overwhelming majority of these phones are perfect, just like any other smartphone, the problems only affect a small number of the overall devices sold.

The battery life is fantastic. The phone is fantastic. Don't listen to the whiners, they make it sound so much worse than it actually is. Every single smartphone on the market encounters bugs and the like. The fact is the people who have problems always stomp their feet and carry on like children, while the majority of the owners who have zero issues just enjoy their device. You don't see people creating threads just to say that their phone is working the way it should, and that's why the overly vocal complainers give the false impression that this phone is a lemon.

Currently got a G3 and OPO is on its way

I've had the 32GB EU G3 for a month now and I've just bought (unfortunately) an invite on eBay after missing my invite from OnePlus but I am well excited! I can see me sticking with this phone, I am expecting to be disappointed with the size and weight but everything else should please
Are there any known faults to look out for?
Thanks!

Another one here! Had the G3 for a few weeks now and just ordered the OPO today...I have the ATT version. Looking forward to the OPO!
I just sold the G3 when I got my One. I liked the G3 a bit better in the form factor as it was smaller but honestly, the One is a better all around phone at this point. Battery life is better, development is better, audio is better and its much faster with fewer lags. If they get Cyanogen working on the G3 it will be a fantastic phone but for all the hope there is with it now, I just can't see them unlocking the bootloader anytime soon on the AT&T model. My one does not have the yellowing issue but you can see the digitizer plainly. There are just many small issues with the G3. They can all be worked out but they will always be behind the One with Cyanogen. The difference in price was a big factor for me as I wanted a new Ping driver and that extra cash made the difference.

Bro, you should do your research first before buying anything lol The only real hardware fault that I've found on the OPO comes in the form of a yellow band found on the bottom 1/5th of the display, the yellow tint becomes apparent on white backgrounds, but it personally doesn't bother me, or I should say that I'm at peace with it now. For the price and specs, I'm happy with the purchase and compromise. There are a lot of people whining about the issue, and OnePlus has been ****ty with their service, but just open the packaging check it out, and if you don't like it, just sell it as new on eBay for a small 40-80 dollar profit after fees

Yeah I'm really looking forward to modified Cyanogen, I am a stock android fan anyway and I love the speed and transitions also with Android L around the corner, I think there is a much better chance of the OPO getting it first

Thanks for the reply mate, am I right in thinking the OPO is shipped from the country that you order from? So mine is shipped from the UK?
also if it does have the yellow banding (which I hope it doesn't because I can't overlook faults haha) will they not just exchange it?
Just ordered my opo to replace my oppo find 5 personal device, have a g3 work phone that I'm really digging, but got the invite and I'm excited for the upgrade.

Don't get me wrong, I loved the G3. If they had the development over there it definitely would have been a keeper. I think most of the compromises would be easily worked out by some good developers. The only thing that would not be able to catch up is the battery life. The size and the screen is fabulous for a 5.5" device. I'm still thinking the perfect phone would be a G2 sized device with all the updates of the G3 and the 805 processor.
I'm getting 50+ hrs per charge and avg about 5 to 6 hrs if SOT stock Rom, rooted. I think the G3 is one of the best phones I've used to date.

I actually love my G3 but I have been wanting the One for a while. #33467 on the OnePlus forum and did get my invite but gave it away because at the time my wife had a major surgery out of town from us and we were strapped for money. I just got the money together so I got the One. Or should I say its ordered.
I love Cyanogen and with the G3 so locked down right now for ATT I am glad I am able to get the One. I do have my G3 rooted with some good mods, viper4android, titanium, xposed tweakbox, etc. and it is very nice. It isn't as bogged down like my Sammy phones were with stock so I am enjoying it. But, I need development! I will be keeping it around. Letting the wifey take it and selling her note 3.
Well, I feel good about my choice getting the OPO. Can't wait!
I've never got over 4 hours sot on my G3 with the exact setup as my one, this phone never has under 7. You can cook eggs on the G3 under certain situations so I respect the 4 hour sot, the energy has to come from somewhere
Im in the same boat, I have the ONEPLUS and have been using it for almost a month. I have had the opportunity to get the LG G3 which I really want to get but I have had one thing stopping me from getting it. 1.) The audio/headphone jack problem I heard about. Some users say they dont have it some say they do.
I prefer the G3 over the ONEPLUS because the screen is the same size but the phone form factor is smaller and easier on the hands and pockets. Also it has removable battery which is a HUGE plus and the external SD card which is pretty nice, even though I use Google Drive.
So..I probably will stick with the ONEPLUS for a while until I have to switch to the G3.

Just got an invite.. Is this phone worth it still?

Think you can get a Galaxy Note3, LG G2, Nexus 5 or other 800/801 spec phone for 350 (US) dollars?
I got the Nexus 5 and the OPO is way better(faster, better camera, quality materials, great design)
It's still worth it now and will still be worth it in the next 6-9 months and beyond.
But be realistic: it might have a band to some degree or it might not. You might have to use the supposedly poor after-sales service or you might never need to.
I have a very slight yellow band at certain angles. Being in China, it would be much easier and cheaper to send it back than those overseas but I will not. It doesn't bother me.
Overall: it's a big phone. It's a high-spec phone. It's a (comparatively) low-cost phone.

OPO blows the Nexus 5 out of the water. But who knows what the Nexus 6 will bring. I suspect that, if you are a diehard Nexus/pure aosp fan, the Nexus 6 would be a better choice (if you can live with subpar battery life). But if you like CM, the OPO is the best phone available. I'd say get it, and if you don't like it, sell it and get something else. You won't have any problem selling it for what you paid, and you might actually make some profit.
Way worth it. Typing this message on it
Don't know, just got mine and the volume buttons do not work at all. Now gotta wait another few weeks I guess and hope they answer my replacement request. Really bummed. Seems like a nice phone, but I cannot even boot into recovery with the thing to check stuff out.

Honestly, its worth it for $350. But I might sell it and get he Nexus 6 depending what is the specs and price. CyanogenMod is always buggy. By the time its stable, then there is already next version of Android. I would pay $100 more for 64 GB Nexus 6
People keep complaining about the small issues here and there, but the updates keep rolling in every week or two, so I can't complain!
People say other phones are better built or designed nicer, or will just plain be faster, being released in the next few months, and they may be right too.
The point is this, to me anyway: If you want something for a great value with good build quality, and are willing to deal with a couple kinks as they continue to be worked out, then this is your phone.
If you want 100% cutting edge latest phone with 99% bug free, then wait and pay $800 for the next phone that comes out from someone else. But don't buy this expecting perfection, and then be pissy and complain about it like 25% of the people on here do
Just my opinion

This guys opinion is pretty damn spot on I might add. Also asking in a forum is this worth it is really not a great thing to do. You cant get a definitive answer in a place like this. Also if you are on the fence then leave it alone and pass on your invite to others. Some will love some will hate it but its an electronic device which can be sold easily. No real risk factor at all.
Do what you like and feel comfortable with. I personally have little yellow banding which is not a big deal and everything else works as it should...
Worth it. My Notes 1/2/3 and Nexus 5 are all collecting dust now. The OPO is a superb phone.
It's absolutely worth it. Especially for that price.

Be aware that it does have several hardware issues including the yellow stain/tint/hue in the bottom of the screen. Here are some reviews. If you think you can live with those issues the go ahead:

Agree, but if the one you get is affected Oneplus will not replace it. They will only give you a refund if the RMA is within 14 days and you have to pay return shipping.
There are quite a few of other issues like ghost touch detection, multi touch issues due to bad grounding, battery draining too fast, random WiFi connection drops, etc. Take a trip around their technical support forum.
Some of these do not affect all devices and some are supposedly going to be fixed by software ipdates . But still buying this phone right now is like playing lottery and it turns out you lose with a bad device then good luck with their customer support.
Again, I'm not saying you shouldn't buy it, I'm just saying do your research before buying and know what you are getting into and what to expect.
Oneplus had a real winner in their hands but the way they have been handling things look very shady.
Here are some links:
This guy just gave up because Oneplus never had the decency to reply back to him. To my knowledge all phones have this issue including mine which really doesn't bother me but it those how the company handled the problem.

WiFi issues, I myself don't have that issue but I have seen several post popping up about wifi disconnects:

I posted already links about the yellow band but here is another one explaining why it is not glue and in fact a hardware issue as state Oneplus:

Honestly, a lot of the 'issues' I've seen talked about are just people not knowing how to use their device, or something that is out of the control of OnePlus (Google Play Services battery drain problem).
Where are you getting this information about OnePlus not replacing devices? It simply isn't true. I've seen multiple people report that upon opening a ticket for a valid fault they've been given the option of a replacement or a refund.
Don't get me wrong, I've also seen people complain about pretty crap customer support from the company, but that isn't the only kind of experience that people are having. Talking in absolutes like that is just wrong, and isn't really very smart.

[Q] One Plus - To Many Bugs?

Hello Everyone,
2 days ago there was a announcement that the one plus one would be available for 1 hour only to buy online. I was so hyped I went straight to the website and got my pre-Order ready and accessories sorted. However I am coming to a point where everything I read about the One plus is a Bug or a issue with it not booting ect. I would describe myself as a geeky teenager, I know my way around phones and computers but I still like to have a phone that will do its job without any/many issues. To any owners of a One plus please help me, Is the one plus one in a place where it is usable and can be used daily for all of my daily tasks (Browsing, Games, Calls, Lots of screen time) Or would you say at this current time there are to many bugs for the phone to be enjoyable?
I would really like to pre order this phone as It still has place in my heart however if there are a people thinking there are to many bugs id rather know and pick an alternative? Maybe a G3 for now.
Thanks all,
David
I have 2oneplus one and I know 4 other frds has oneplus one..not a single problem on any one of them. I also have note3 too. I like my oneplus one a lot more then my note3(its in my closet ever since I got my oneplus).
Sometimes I think people are having problems with the phone its because user error. And you gotta remember 97% of people who has the phone that are satisfy. Won't come online and post on forums telling you abt it. Usually its the people who has problems with there phone would post on forums trying to find a fix.

Man listen if you making up a thread for this you have already given up... Best phone I have ever had to date... No issues at all nor my half dozen friends with the phone.. Yellow tint - fix for that :good:
Hey David
If you are geeky and know your way around androids and Cyanogen Mod in particular you will have few if any problems with this phone as most of the errors that come up should be resolvable with flashes. That said unlock and root it upon receiving and get a custom recovery on the phone asap.
Those who do have hardware problems well... you can't blame them and though my own oneplus works great I don't knock the fact other people had problems. They got unlucky and oneplus self admittedly is swamped and hasn't handled the issue in a speedy way. It looks like they are dragging their feet compared to other companies when they are swamped. They should make a public announcement and put a pause on marketing. They haven't done that and I feel they justifiably received a lot of ire from unhappy customers.
In short, if you want to gamble the 1%-2% or greater chance you got a lemon you can try. There was a census on the forum that 7-8% who bought the phone need an rma. (forum census here https://forums.oneplus.net/threads/for-those-who-have-the-one-how-is-the-quality.95588/) I am being really critical and assuming more than half of the people who bought it had a software issue.
So perhaps that guesstimate is not correct but the majority IS happy with their phone.
And a warning that recently there was a spate of people who had random reboots and one plus has not made any announcements on the matter, also requiring people to send in videos of the random reboot.
So if you want to chance you will be out of shipping and handling at worst. At best you'll have a real kick ass phone myself and others really enjoy.
Hope that clarifies

Thanks all,
David

In my family alone there are 4 OnePlus One's:
1.) Me (64GB International CyanogenMod version)
2.) Brother-in-law (64GB International CyanogenMod version)
3. Brother-in-law's brother (16GB Chinese version with CM11s)
4.) My sister (16GB Chinese version with CM11s)
Non of us have any of the serious issues reported such as random rebooting, bootlooping, multi-touch or ghost touch issues. We do have the yellow band at the bottom (all of us) but its barely noticable.
tl:dr : Yes you can very well use it as a reliable daily driver AND should you have any issues thats what XDA is for.
Got my OPO a few weeks ago and have no issues at all. If I did I would of sold it day 1. I still have my N5 running the dev Lollipop, its fast and smooth, i could roll right back to it, but really like the OPO. Buy it, if you don't like it, sell it. Maybe you lose 20$, if you do, but in my book its worth it.
No issues at all on two of these things.

I have had 4 in total, bought my first used and the guy gave me his two invites so I bought them as well. All three had a small amount of yellow at the bottom of the screen but no other problems. The forth one I got used and is has no yellow tint but it did have a small touch problem where I would sometimes have to tap the phone twice to get it to register a tap but after the 38R update it has gone away completely so I have no problems at all with the phone. Best part of it was that I got this one for £160 and it was only a few weeks old.
I thought that the yellow tint on the other phones didn't bother me too much until I got my G3 and seen the difference between them so I sold the last one of the first three I got but after getting this one I can see that the yellow tint really did bother me because even though I can see a difference between the screen on the this one and the G3 is not that great and I have been using it most of the time over my G3

[Q] Some G Flex 2 fly, some suck. How to differentiate?

I have a H959 version of the LG G Flex 2.
Some of the phones fly, some are very laggy.
Can anyone tell me how to differentiate by serial number what's good and what's bad?

Are you getting lag on H959 then?
I've registered on these forums as I was worried about this lag issue...
My model number is H955 and I'm experiencing serious lag...
Restarting appears to temporarily fix the problem.
very serious lag http://forum.xda-developers.com/g-flex2/general/lg-g-flex-2-lags-crazy-t3055041
They ALL lag.
The people who claim they don't are lying to justify dumping $700 on this phone.
Thank you, caysman, for speaking the truth. OEMs will never want to improve if all we have are people protecting their ego and arrogance. Just admit that you bought the wrong phone. Is that so difficult?

Why are you such a d*ck? You haven't tried every phone. You don't know that they all lag. You probably don't even have one. Go back to your iphone. Stop calling everyone a liar!

Every devices that comes out have good and bad units this ain't something new. My phone now is completely fine night and day difference from my first phone. Sprint give you 14 days to return or get something else im keeping mine it works fine. Stop trolling if you don't have the device stop the( i read on this or that website b.s )they don't even use the Sprint Version.

I just have to say we buy what we like. I bought this phone because I like the way it looks, feels, and works. I see some lag but have seen it in other phones. Most of the time it is the skin that is on top of the android software that causes this and once rooted and a different rom is put on there the lag goes away. That is just the way it is I do not understand why people complain about this phone just take it back and get something else and let us that do keep this phone enjoy it.
This is supposed to be the world's fastest phone. It lags like hell because of a defect. Manufacturers should be made aware of their buyers' complaint so that they prioritize a remedy.
This is not slight lag. It is a big **** lag, a very serious mistake or problem. It is something extraordinary not a slight performance issue.

This phone really sucks, i owned the flex 1 and even the screen was a **** (slow and grainy) and the camera soso, the speed, battery life and temperature were fine, i was happy with that phone. Then bought the flex2, the screen looks better same as the camera but is really lagging, no matter using the web browser or just checking the notification panel, very often gets slow, for charging i must use the supplied charger because if use a battery pack charge only at 490 mah, the battery life also sucks (compared to the flex1), also already took 2 times to warranty because a yellowish shade on the screen. I wont recommend buy this phone to anyone, LG really made a big mistake, Anyways afraid of buy anything with snapdragon 810 (maybe that is the main problem). I bought the Hong kong version
damn thie phone really sucks
Took my flex 2 back to sprint because of heat issuses and the screen died the 3rd day owning the phone. Since i was within my 14 days i turned it back in for a note 4 and can't be any happier. Stay away from this phone if your planning on spending money for it. I thought it was just my device but it's every flex 2 buy if you want but you been worn people are not lying this phone got issuses software can't help.
Dont know what you guys are doing wrong but it´s a nice phone.
Mine had a Display with an yellow spot Problem but it´s not so bad because I get a new one.
Everything else is fine except the lags but thats only a software Problem.
It was not overheating. The Benchmarks shows that this phone have a great Performance but the ui is not optimized.
Except the 2GB RAM it´s the best phone in My opinion because
- Flex Display (not everyone got that)
- newst CPU
- LG UI (i know it lags but it will be solved . LG gives you much more Options to customize than Samsung and HTC)
- Buttons on the back
There are HTC One M9, Samsung Galaxy S6 but except the S6 Edge there isnt anything much new where you would say that is the Money worth if you got a phone which is still good.
I got a note 3.
In 2 or 3 days I get a new one and then I will Report. If there are Issues which I didint see, I will Report.

By lg update history you going to be waiting a great time for that update to fix those issues. The g4 will get all the updates the g flex 2 will be just like the og flex stuck on 4.1.1 hopefully the g4 rom can be ported to work on this phone. The lag didn't bother me just the heat issuses i know there's some good lg flex 2 without issues out there but the i had were bad ones . My first one ran fine no over heating or nothing then when i went to go to make a phone call and the screen was all blk and when i try to pull status bar down it was all kinda funky colors.
Got my update and mine is flying hehehe
Not sure what everyone is complaining about. I get a little stutter here and there but that has been the same thing with pretty much every Android phone I've owned that is not running vanilla Android on it. I have 0 complaints about this phone.
I think it's all about RAM size
I have serious issues when the phone is connected trhough 4G. The phones gets very laggy, and is hotter.
I got my new one since yesterday and now without any problem.
It lags less than before. Only little shutters sometimes but much better since the OTA update.
I like this phone
My first one had an yellow spot on the display. Except that there was only the lag problem but it was without the update.

Buying a nexus 5 from ebay

Has anyone here buyed a nexus 5 from ebay ?since they are quite cheap right now at 100-120$
Im interested in buying one and would like to ask is the battery life that badly if you use a custom rom and kernel , i will use it mostly for reading ebooks at school at 5-10% britghness without internet connection , can i get like 5h of SOT?
Thanks
If its just reading books and on low brightness, yes. Definetly. You can set the kernel frequencies down too to save even more battery. So yeah.

First, try Swappa before ebay. You're more likely to know exactly what you're getting. Secondly, make sure you know which network(s) your Nexus 5 will be capable of before you purchase. The hardware is the same on all of them, but the way they are registered varies. Some can use any network, others CDMA only, others GSM only...

+1 for Swappa.
On Swappa, the N5 comes in 3 variants; GSM Unlocked, International Unlocked, and Sprint. I'm not really sure what the difference would be for the first two at quick-glance, but it might be more of a concern if you plan to use the N5 outside of the US.
As for the battery life, it depends on the manufacturing date of the phone you get. The phone I got recently off Swappa seems to have a battery from 2015, which is pretty nice. So unless the seller tells you, you could either get lucky and get a N5 from around the time they stopped being sold, a launch model, or anything in-between (not excluding the possibility the phone's owner at some point replacing the battery).
As for the price, I seen a few decent-quality N5's (including the one I bought recently) for less than $100.

i can't go with that i think since i need to get it internationally and free shipping , since if i ship from USA to my country its like 50$ extra , also the ones i saw in ebay are factory unlocked , and yeah for sure i will use a custom kernel on it to make the cores go off when read btw if i use the phone normaly on wifi with 30-40% light web browsing will i get 3-4h of SOT?
If you can reccomand anyother site that ships internationally free i can use that too i don't mind

I bought my Nexus 5 second hand and the button has been replaced before. I know. Its scary. And i dont know how people managed to break it. Since its made out of ceramic material. But as long as you use some protection, a case for example, you should be fine. Just dont press to hard or hit the buttons against something.
But other hardware issues... Well. Battery. WiFi happens. Sometimes Bluetooth gives up. Atleast on my side. But otherwise its the money worth it at the moment if youre not a person that wants the most powerful device at the market for simple tasks.

i just can't understand how the power button can be breaked so easly , a friend of mine buyed a nexus 5 and break it under 2 weeks , right now i have a hd2 that is 7 years close to 8 and it still works like its new (i mean if you don't think about perfomance since its way to old) but the hardware its perfect and its 7 years old insteed newer devices are easier to break xD
And yeah as you said it i will probably tune it with underclocking since im not a power user , even the S3 neo my friend has seems like super fast to me so a nexus 5 should be a few times more powerful
il probably pick between G3 of nexus 5 since they are the same price right now althrough i think the G3 battery should be the same as N5 since it has a higher screen res
btw : do you have any idea how much it would cost to get the button fixed if i somehow get the nexus 5 and unlucky break it xD
