Which charger work in the underwater? - Xperia Z3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi friends
I need to buy charger for my phone. I know phone is waterproof. Which charger I to get for underwater? I want to charge my phone in the showur or pool. Pardon if English no is perfect. My 6 year son likes playing with phone in pool an he wants to charge it too. help? thank you

Not sure if trolling or not, but you should not attempt to charge an electronic device near water or your child.

Are you serious?[emoji1]

1) Do not mix mains electricity and water, it tends to end bad.
2) If you are going to open the charging flap then the phone is no longer waterproof.
3) Not sure if I just got trolled by replying to this, but I could not in all good conscience let someone put a mains charger in the shower or pool with their children.

Natural selection... No, jk well, I shown a magnetic charging to my friend yesterday and he asked me if you could charge it this way underwater, so OP does not have to feel bad about his question

He doesn't have to charge from mains, which would be a very silly idea. He can use the magnetic charging point, and use a battery pack. It's only slightly less silly, though.
I'm surprised at the number of people who actually want to use their phone underwater, rather than just having the piece of mind that it should still work if you get caught in the rain.

Ignoring the fact that this is illogical, using the magnetic charger would allow your phone to stay waterproof as all flaps are closed. Again having said that, it still is not a good idea to try it.

The phone will last you long enough so that you can still use it underwater. Charging the phone under water might be a safety hazard as water and electricity don't usually mix. If you are really in need of a charger on the go, just get an external battery. They are pretty cheap on eBay and are good quality. I bought a 20,000 mah battery for 15 bucks. Best of luck.

Seriously though. Pool time is for POOL TIME. Leave the gadgets out of it.
If you absolutely HAVE to have it, don't bring in electrical cords into a pool with children?

Seriously, not trolling... Good question...
I am new to Android, and new to the Z3C. And I have a similar question to the OP, albeit for much different reasons.
The primary reason why I got the Z3C is because of its waterproof feature. I ride motorcycles. Many long distance trips. And I am not a fair weather-only rider. I use the Nokia Maps with offline map of the continental USA as my riding GPS. In the past, when it rains, I put away the Nokia 808, thus losing my GPS capability.
The appeal of the Z3C is that I will be able to keep my Z3C GPS out even when it rains. But I would like to keep it charged as well, since GPS tends to drain the battery fast. So, along the same lines as the OP, are there magnetic chargers out there that are waterproof, or at least water-resistant?
Bonus question: Is there an app in Android similar to Nokia Car Mode? It's an UI overlay that has oversized buttons and allows you to control 3 common apps for driving: Music / Maps / Cellular.
Thanks in advance!

Please post in the correct device forum, the Z3C had its own section, please search for it.
To answer your question, change the home launcher to xperia simple, it is in settings.
Magnetic chargers keep the water proof as they do not item any flaps on the phone

Thank you for your response. I am afraid you have misunderstood my post greatly.
A) My usage of Z3C is synonymous with "Z3 Compact". Just like some people call the S 1000 RR motorcycle as S1KRR. Unless there is exactly an Xperia model called Z3C (which XDA doesn't have a section for, as far as I have searched, and Sony doesn't have a model for), this should be self explanatory. But if you insist that I use the full model name, maybe I shall do so.
B) The question was, "Are there magnetic chargers out there that are waterproof, or at least water-resistant?" I am fully aware that using the magnetic charger will allow the phone itself to retain its waterproof quality. But I am asking if there are magnetic chargers out there that are waterproof or water resistant. In other words, the noun and main tangible object of the question is the charger itself, not the phone. I seriously don't think that my Magnector X2 charger itself will survive any water contact if I ride my motorcycle in the rain.
Thanks again.

My bad. I didn't realize I'm posting in the Z3 forum. I thought it was the Z3C forum.
But considering the Z3 and Z3C both have the same charging port, and uses the same charging dock station, and same charger, please allow me to rephrase my question to suit you:
Are there magnetic chargers out there that are waterproof, or at least water-resistant for the Z3?
Hope this helps?

I highly doubt that you can charge the phone in rain/water. Even with a magnetic charger, if some water gets in the charging pins, it will short-circuit. What I would do - put the USB cable in the port, and wrap it up with some tape, covering a bit from the sides of the phone.
Sent from my D6603 using Tapatalk

I would simply buy two tools - one powerbank for some huge capacity and the dimensions similar to z3/z3c, second - the waterproof case for motorcycle steering wheel (or somewhere else where you will be able to either see it and still feel comfortable).
The powerbank will extend your battery life greatly and it will be connected to yor mobile under a waterproof case.
The only problem I see there is heating.

Pic is straight. USB connection for charging is at the top of the phone..
for HTC Touch HD was really good.
Probably I`ll buy for SGS as well
Hope the charger is 1mA
even at 1mA it's not powerful enough to charge the battery when using the GPS
i'm looking for a 2mA car charger
The estimate prices you can check from DSL Developments

Now I do like Brodit, but I may have to get my hacksaw out according to these pics.
Unless Im reading it wrong, there's a big flap of plastic obscuring the camera lens.
I like to record my car journeys you see - for the times I get into an accident with a less than honest person who invents witnesses.

that's a great idea!
i've always used a separate camera for that purpose, because i bike and drive, it's extremely important when you are on a bicycle as most car vs. bicycle goes either unreported, or car always win the debate even though it's the car's driver fault.
Off topic (but discussed in topic) I've just purchased this 2A charger http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/2A-car-charge...ting_LaptopAccessories_RL&hash=item45f367d712 cheap and cheerful no holder but provide the correct power for maximum use of the device
Isn't a 2 amp charger way overkill? I have a 0.7 amp samsung charger and that charges my phone just fine while running mobile maps.
i ordered a 2 Amp charger from another source, i already have a generic phone holder that works for all phones and PDA
no, anything less than 1 Amp will not charge your phone, if you keep the screen ON, and using GPS + using Bluetooth
1 Amp will keep your battery from falling down drastically, but it is still not enough to charge the battery meanwhile all the features are ON
2 Amp is only enough to keep all those features running, and charger the battery.
that comes from experience using the HTC Athena, which is just as much of a power hog as the SGS i9000

I first preordered this back when it was introduced at CES this year. I loved how it propped the N4 up and I longed for one like this. I know LG has one but can only be bought in Korea for an outrageous $130 bux on fleabay.
Months later, Tylt said it was cancelling all the pre orders and people like me were a bit disappointed. Keep in mind this was a little before the orb. So then the Orb came up and most of us grabbed it up like Charlie at the Chocolate factory, but some were met with the sliding issue. That officially sucked! I personally did not experience it, but it sucks that this stuff happens.
Come 7 months or so later, Tylt came back and released a Kickstarter. Earlybirds were to get the new Tylt VU in August according to KS. So I joined in on the 49 dollar level because the 39 level was snapped up. I got an email from Tylt a few days later stating that because I was a pre-order, they will grant me the Tylt at the KS earlybird price. AWESOMESAUCE! I immediately cancelled my pledge lol. Paid for the Tylt on July 2nd and got it today, 7/9 (surprisingly fast!) at work.
I excitedly posted a few quick pics on a thread but I wanted to give a quick take on it so far, that I have had time to use it a bit.
Attached you can see that the N4 is still charging in any orientation you want, which is cool. There is a LED to let you know the status of the charger under the front lip. You cant really see it unless you literally look at it straight on, which is also good; it's not BRIGHT like other QI pads I have used and heard about. Additionally, there's NO audible beep or anything from the stand. Just your phone if you have the OGG file on your phone (when less than 95% of course).
Will it continually charge when it reaches 100%? Looks like it keeps it topped off and then stops charging but according to my widgits, the phone does report it "charging" even though the settings say otherwise. This doesn't mean it's totally off and not charging, it trickle charges back up like the orb does in my case.
Like you see in the pics, I got the boring black lol. The build quality is nice. It is quite big for a charger, but it's going to be on my night stand lol. Would I recommend it? For my price of 39bux YES. For 70 bux it'd be a hard sell for me. It's not necessarily travel worthy like the LG pad or even the Energizer one. They are flat, while this is not.
Anyways here are the pics. Any questions please feel free to ask!

Negative. I actually never got to check back on tylt.com to check for any tracking numbers. By the time I was thinking to do so, it showed up on my desk.
Go here and get your order number and billing zip code and you can get a tracking number here if it shipped. I actually ordered on 7/2 and got it yesterday 7/9. With July 4 thrown in for a holiday, I really didn't expect it so fast!

Noooo...I initially did, but at the 49 early bird. But because I was initially a pre-order on their site, they extended the 39 early bird price to me, which I accepted! And in turn, cancelled my pledge on KS lol. Then was told that the charger would ship within two weeks, which turned out to be three days. :good:
I mean, getting it way before the Kickstarters (kinda weird) and saving 10 bux in my case. Right place and right time I guess.
OK reporting back on a couple of days of usage and have to say it's great. I may have to eat my hat a little and say that it may be worth the cash after all because, the usage is great, props my phone up so I can quickly glance in the room to see if there's a notification I have missed if I am not wearing my Pebble, and quickly see who's calling. Not to mention the ability to just grab and drop my phone on it willy-lilly lol. No fuss no muss, no aligning it in anyway.
This looks great! Wish I had seen it while it was cheaper. If I hadn't just switched jobs, this would be on the way to my house.
Its expensive, though i think its the best qi charger out there. I want one! I hope they put them on amazon or offer some other ways to buy them

Er...what's Flo? Oh the new N7? I would assume so.
I'm pretty happy with mine. It does seem to charge a bit slower and it is noticeably warmer (charging while in TPU case) but likely nothing to worry about. I wouldn't leave open anything intensive while it's charging for prolonged periods though, as the charge rate would be very slow and the device would heat up.
The stand does like to slide around on my desk though. Any thoughts on better securing it?

Mine charges pretty fast. It charges slower when the device is below 30% and charges and gets the phone pretty warm. Sometimes I need to reboot to let it go again. I never have to do that with my orb charger though.
As for securing it. You can try adding some rubber feet on the contact points. You can probably get them at a craft store or even home depot. Some self adhesive stubs. Or you can put a rubber mousepad and set it on top of that lol.

http://www.tylt.com/faq/#vu
Q: How long does it take to charge my phone with the VU?
A: The VU is designed to provide as much power as your standard USB charger (1 Amp) and will charge as fast as your USB charger as long as your phone is designed to accept that much power.
Can you give us a photo of the power adapter (the end that plugs in to the VU itself)?
I'm curious if it's a generic one you could get your own adapter for.
I've just ordered one to be shipped to Aus, and would ideally like to avoid the need for an international adapter =)

[REVIEW] MPJ 8200 mAh Extended Battery

I was contacted by MPJ Battery to see if I was interested in doing a real-world , unbiased review of their 8200 mAh battery for the Galaxy S5. I figured why not? Couldn't hurt, plus I love trying new things!
Here's what came in the package:

The back cover is actually a VERY dark brown, but looks black in all but the brightest lighting. It looked suprisingly good instead of the blue back cover that came with my phone , and contrasted nicely with the blue front bezel. FAIR WARNING - The battery cover isn't waterproof , doesn't have NFC functionality (I could be wrong - I personally DO NOT use NFC), and pretty much doubles the thickness of your phone, while at the same time has a nice rubbery feel and feels good in your hand. I carry my phone in my pocket every day and this didn't make it too big to carry in pocket.
The battery is marked 8200 mAh just as it should.
Why would you want a battery like this? Well, me myself, I recently attended the FETC (Future Educational Technology Conference) in Orlando. My cell signal was miserable, and I was away from a charger for 8-10 hours at a time. This battery would have come in handy for such an occasion!
Another example - one of my work locations is like working inside of a lead box when you go inside - unless you stand with the phone in your left hand, facing 12 degrees from west, while applying your weight only to your middle toe and pinky toe on your right foot, while holding your head at a 32 degree list to port, you're not going to get a signal! With my regular OEM battery I'm lucky to have enough to last 6 hours inside this building. Again - having this battery would be awesome at that work site!
I gave the battery a full charge the first night then unplugged it and let the games begin. Yes, I know you're supposed to cycle the battery a few times to get the optimal results, but honestly, who does that??? Sure, you might wait to do benchmarking after those first few full cycles, but this is REAL WORLD testing, not a controlled environment. Most people will buy it and start using it on day one - hence me doing the same thing !
I used the phone exactly as I usually would - Gmail, work emails, work phone calls, Spotify music via Bluetooth while in car, WiFi while at home and in the office (where available), and of course, calls to/from my wife
Down to the nitty gritty....
So here's the stats:
First run -
Second run -
Thoughts:
No complaints so far, unless you're going to charge this battery from a non-USB3 port on your PC - then be prepared to wait a long while! Charges easily overnight though using your OEM charger.
Do I believe this is a full 8200 mAh ? Not sure - the only sure-fire way to know for sure without some testing equipment being used in a controlled environment that I just don't have, but it's AWESOME to get more than 2 full days off the charger without having to worry about carrying a charger or plugging in at night.! My usual day starts with unplugging at 5:30AM, and ends with my crashing at around 9:30PM Even with good signal and using my phone the same way with the OEM battery , I usually end the day with about 20 to 30% left.
TO BE FAIR TO MPJ Battery - I don't think I've yet to see the full potential of the battery ! I believe the life will only get better after a few more cycles - only time will tell with that though. I'll post an update after I use it a bit more.
Should you buy it? I personally would. I'm not going to use it every day, but I do have definite times and places that I'll sacrifice a little bulk for having the juice that I need! I live in Florida - hurricane alley ! During hurricane season it's always a good thing to have one or two of these charged up and ready to go should your area get hit!
All in all, I'm say it's worth the money they are asking for it. Here's a link to their website should you be interested in buying!

@JWhipple nice review.
i would like to make a few questions.
first of all the specific batery is it also for s5 g900h?
does the cover has protection from water and dust as official samsung's cover has?
and final, for daily use is it good?
i was thinking to replace offcial battery for ever and place the specific u have reviewed.
ty in advance
It should work for any GS5. Mine is an S5 G900A... The i9600 mentioned on the battery is the international version of the S5. All S5's should use the same sized battery.
The battery cover I don't believe would have as much protection as the original Samsung battery, HOWEVER, it does fit PERFECTLY. I can't say though that it would provide a water-tight seal.
Yes, VERY good for daily use!

You would just need to be careful not to get it went like we did
before there were waterproof phones.
Your cover will not fit unless it's made for an extended battery.
i ordered one of these batteries. i ordered it in June 2014, and i still have not recieved it. i emailed them and no response. i think its just someone trying to scam us out of our money.

LG V20 Wireless Charging Support Confirmed!

I emailed LG asking what the contacts are for on the rear of the phone (under the battery cover), turns out I was correct in assuming they were wireless charging support:

How about the other versions?
What phones that have metal back panels support native wireless charging? Can't think of one right now.

I only emailed about my variant, but I assume if they have those contact pins around the back they will support wireless charging. The only one that may be different is the AT&T which probably only does PowerMat because they invested too much into that standard to ever give it up, lol.

This one doesn't either. You will have to replace the back with something that isn't metal (as the email suggests, their Quick Circle case). However, Qualcomm has had WiPower for years that supports wireless charging through metal phones, but no one has ever used it for some reason...

Because it's it's own standard and doesn't support Qi or PMA so that would mean people would have to buy a whole new charging pad.
The majority of manufacturers that enable wireless charging are Qi standard (Samsung supports both Qi and Powermat). If Qualcomm could somehow get iPhone to incorporate WiPower then it would basically destroy Qi/PMA overnight and Android OEM's would switch at that point.
Right now it's the whole Beta/VHS battle (if you're that old to remember), Laser Disc vs DVD (more of a late 90's battle) or most recently HDDVD vs Bluray battle thing. In the end one format will win and everyone will switch to it (not always for the best though). HDDVD was a cheaper better format but Bluray at the time offered more storage capacity and was "more secure" (even though the DRM has been stripped/broken on bluray).

Can individuals who own a LG V20 post their carrier and if they have the pins near the battery.
Im hoping the Verizon variant has the pins for wireless charging.

The T-Mobile variant does not.
There's a small gap in the area where the pins would be, but, it doesn't look like anything that could accommodate wireless charging.
Just to be clear, I'm not trying to negate any posts that point in the other direction, just posting my observations on my TMOUS LG V20.
To the contrary, I hope that somehow, wireless charging can be achieved (other than the stickers that plug into the USB port).
If an OEM LG V20 Charging Case or, battery cover becomes available, I'll order one (or both) & report my findings here.

There are 10 pins all the way around the back of the T-Mobile phone that are currently insulated from touching the metal back cover, that is what I asked about in the email to LG. They said they're used for wireless charging, maybe not all of them, but some.

I see those as well, glad to hear they are intended for wireless charging.
I do have an OEM Licensed (VOIA) Quick View Case on the way, from S. Korea , should be arriving any day now, left Seoul on 10/19/19.
With any luck, this is the one that has wireless charging on-board.....

Nah, that doesn't replace the back cover and it doesn't plug in at the bottom so I can't imagine it supporting Qi. They probably would've explicitly stated it did wireless charging.

Here is a picture of my T-Mobile V-20 with the back off. The 2 pins in the upper right are for NFC.

My ATT version has those too, but I'm pretty sure they're some sort of snap for the back cover. Lay your cover next to your phone (phone with screen facing down, and cover with inside facing up), and you'll see some little squares on the cover that line up perfectly with those copper/gold pins on the phone.

Like mentioned above, those pins go to the NFC antenna that is mounted around the camera cutout in the back cover.

You are indeed correct regarding the lack of wireless charging support with the VOIA Case (not my video, but,it shows all the deets of the case)
That feature aside,if you're a fan of this style of case,it has a great fit,can be used with or without the metal backing,a nice feature in of itself if you want to use one of the QI Charging stickers that plug into the USB Port:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RnB2gsR9XYI
Since people don't seem to understand what pins we're discussing, I have circled the 10 of them here... They are not the two near the camera for NFC.

Agreed! I feel like wireless charging takes forever, and if your life is like mine that 1 hour is like 1 minute (sometimes) well.... you figure you dont have all day to wait for it to reach the 100. And also to be constantly removing the device and putting it back well.. it makes it last even more .
EDIT: On the other hand, it is good to have variation. Maybe someday it wakes up my interest to buy one of those wireless charging docks. After all, that's why i currently love more lg than samsung, because it has more variation (LOVE MY IR BLASTER) !!

Best Wireless Portable Charger?

I'm seeing some on Amazon with super suspect reviews. Like, one of them has 99% 5-star reviews. Come on, dude...
Can y'all share some LEGIT portable wireless chargers? Preferably some with REAL fast charging.
I have ordered this one.,
QI wireless charger, 20000mAh, price around 35 US$.
Can tell you more in a couple of days, should I get in the next days (has unfortunately around 4 weeks delivery time).

got it now. Works more as OK for this price. Can charge also if the device is in the cover. The HW looks professional. QI charging with stand works only if you put the phone horizontal on the stand , but this is ok. Think was a good deal. Shippment needs 3 weeks.
After some weeks using I can say it was a very good deal. Works perfect with my Note 9 on travel. I can really highly recommend this QI charger. Use it on my business trips including powerpoint presentations in combination with an little HDMI adapter and on the evening to view Netflix videos in the hotel.
I don't want miss it anymore...
I've got to get that!
I think using the descriptor “best” is relative. What may work for one may not work for another.
Take this product:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B077QRXLF6/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1
10000mah battery pack, usb 3 ports, qi standard. Display shows exact charge numerically. Even shows the voltage coming in and voltage going out of the ports and what the qi is sending out.
There is a led ring that shows light white when charging and dark blue when charged.
I like these so much I bought 3 for the 3 notes i have.
EDIT: does charge them with the samsung military grade case for the note 9 series as seen in the photos (may be hard to see the actual case but both units have the case on )
They look pretty cool. The light looks a little too bright though? Also, the top surface looks quite slippery?

Does look cool, I like the bright light, but I'd definitely want it to be optional, you wouldn't want that next to your bed when trying to sleep haha.
And yeah that super smooth surface does look like the phone would easily slide off, although it would be negated by a case that had some grip.
Not sure what happened, might just be a temporary thing, but it's currently unavailable?

That’s why i said not one product can be “best”.
I’m sure this is not designed to sit next to your bed at night. Its mostly aimed at people on the go /traveling.
The light ring is not bright. In a darkened room it will be noticeable, sure.
The top surface has plastic (shipping plastic). You can remove this plastic overlay as you see fit
Ive had these for about 3 weeks. I have used them 2-3 times per week (just to test on the charge times) and am very happy with the product price point and features.
You can also charge the product up whilst charging a qi enabled device (pass thru charging)
Does anyone make a car phone cradle holder with inbuilt wireless charger?
Sent from my SM-N960U1 using Tapatalk
Lots of people do wireless charging cradles for cars - I have an iOttie, two QiFulls and (my favourite - so good that I bought 3 of them), Samsung's own one.

Of course you are right, but for me personally is size and power (20000mah) decisive. And some small things like the vertical stand, the non slippery surface and the size (like the phone itself) seem to be thought-out....

^^^ thats why there are more options out there because not everyone has the same feature requests. I don’t particualry like portable upright chargers and the fact I have 3 of these means the 10 000mAh X3 (30000mAh? ) wlli be plenty. And if they are not, i have two portable power banks.
The product i listed here is just another option in the mix... not trying to steal thunder away from any one product..

The last thing I needed was yet another power bank (I have a couple of really hefty one - 26,800 mAh from Zendure and 30,000 mAh from iMuto - as well as a whole raft of smaller ones given away free at various trade shows), but none of them do wireless so I had to get one of these as well.
Ordered it on amazon.de and it arrived here in the UK in a couple of days. Initial impressions are favourable. It charges my Note 9 even in its Spigen Tough Armor case, and I like the ability to have the phone at an angle. It also seems to do passthrough (i.e. wireless charge the Note 9 while also being charged itself).
There's a USB-C socket for input (haven't tested whether it can also be used as an output) as well as MicroUSB in and 2 x USB A outputs.
yes, is no bad

Well, getting bogged down with semantics is a waste of time. I think most of us generally agree that when we say "best" we're implying that the product performs as expected and that it suits most of our needs/wants.
That charging pad you shared looks promising but it sucks that it's no longer available on Amazon. I hope more OEMs jump into this portable wireless charging game. We need more options, that's for sure.

I feel you on this. I'm down to two right now. One big one with enough amps to charge my laptop quick enough and a smaller Anker one for everything else. I want to replace the Anker one with a wireless one. Less cables to carry around.
