I emailed LG asking what the contacts are for on the rear of the phone (under the battery cover), turns out I was correct in assuming they were wireless charging support:

How about the other versions?
What phones that have metal back panels support native wireless charging? Can't think of one right now.

I only emailed about my variant, but I assume if they have those contact pins around the back they will support wireless charging. The only one that may be different is the AT&T which probably only does PowerMat because they invested too much into that standard to ever give it up, lol.

This one doesn't either. You will have to replace the back with something that isn't metal (as the email suggests, their Quick Circle case). However, Qualcomm has had WiPower for years that supports wireless charging through metal phones, but no one has ever used it for some reason...

Because it's it's own standard and doesn't support Qi or PMA so that would mean people would have to buy a whole new charging pad.
The majority of manufacturers that enable wireless charging are Qi standard (Samsung supports both Qi and Powermat). If Qualcomm could somehow get iPhone to incorporate WiPower then it would basically destroy Qi/PMA overnight and Android OEM's would switch at that point.
Right now it's the whole Beta/VHS battle (if you're that old to remember), Laser Disc vs DVD (more of a late 90's battle) or most recently HDDVD vs Bluray battle thing. In the end one format will win and everyone will switch to it (not always for the best though). HDDVD was a cheaper better format but Bluray at the time offered more storage capacity and was "more secure" (even though the DRM has been stripped/broken on bluray).

The T-Mobile variant does not.
There's a small gap in the area where the pins would be, but, it doesn't look like anything that could accommodate wireless charging.
Just to be clear, I'm not trying to negate any posts that point in the other direction, just posting my observations on my TMOUS LG V20.
To the contrary, I hope that somehow, wireless charging can be achieved (other than the stickers that plug into the USB port).
If an OEM LG V20 Charging Case or, battery cover becomes available, I'll order one (or both) & report my findings here.

There are 10 pins all the way around the back of the T-Mobile phone that are currently insulated from touching the metal back cover, that is what I asked about in the email to LG. They said they're used for wireless charging, maybe not all of them, but some.

Nah, that doesn't replace the back cover and it doesn't plug in at the bottom so I can't imagine it supporting Qi. They probably would've explicitly stated it did wireless charging.

My ATT version has those too, but I'm pretty sure they're some sort of snap for the back cover. Lay your cover next to your phone (phone with screen facing down, and cover with inside facing up), and you'll see some little squares on the cover that line up perfectly with those copper/gold pins on the phone.

Like mentioned above, those pins go to the NFC antenna that is mounted around the camera cutout in the back cover.

You are indeed correct regarding the lack of wireless charging support with the VOIA Case (not my video, but,it shows all the deets of the case)
That feature aside,if you're a fan of this style of case,it has a great fit,can be used with or without the metal backing,a nice feature in of itself if you want to use one of the QI Charging stickers that plug into the USB Port:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RnB2gsR9XYI
Since people don't seem to understand what pins we're discussing, I have circled the 10 of them here... They are not the two near the camera for NFC.

Agreed! I feel like wireless charging takes forever, and if your life is like mine that 1 hour is like 1 minute (sometimes) well.... you figure you dont have all day to wait for it to reach the 100. And also to be constantly removing the device and putting it back well.. it makes it last even more .
EDIT: On the other hand, it is good to have variation. Maybe someday it wakes up my interest to buy one of those wireless charging docks. After all, that's why i currently love more lg than samsung, because it has more variation (LOVE MY IR BLASTER) !!

For all who are looking for a good wireless charger, I found this on ebay. There are currently 13 active listings, and the final price including shipping comes to nearly USD 70. It is apparently from Japan, and both economic and expedited shipping options are available. [ Lowest cost incl. expedited shipping I found was 73$ ]
It has the feature of automatically sensing where your device is so that there is no "no-charging even though placed on mat" issue that some charges are having.
Here are a few youtube videos of the charger :

Nexus 4 on the charger
Demonstration of the auto-sensing feature
Apparently, the device is available for a cheaper rate from Amazon Japan, which ships only within Japan for 40$ [ compared to 50-55 USD in ebay w/o shipping].

But it does take a bit of real estate on ones desk or nightstand, but looks cool! The little orb that follows the phone to charge is nice! Those dag gone Japanese know how to market a product! LOL

Yeah, unfortunately doesn't charge two devices simultaneously. I like the looks, but it does occupy a lot of volume. Not sure whether I should wait for the official one, which would be quite smaller and shouldn't face the issues other chargers are having.

Extremely likely knowing Google. But still I don't want to be stuck in a situation where they announce it immediately after receiving my brand new charger, at say 80$. ( google charger's price). It's what happened to me with the bumper, bought so many cases for it, that I decided to cancel the last one (which I had ordered an hour back before the bumpers came back online)

It can't do two at simultaneously, but if you put two devices on it will charge one, then the coil will move and charge the other.

I have this charger too. I love that I can just set the phone anywhere and it charges. It even works through my TPU case.
The only downside is that when the battery is fully charged, it stops charging. That means at night it charges right away, and then when I go to get it in the morning it's down to ~85%. It wouldn't be such a big deal if the Google Now location stuff didn't suck so much juice during the night.

Just to clarify , that means it will charge in effect both devices placed on the charger? How frequently does the coil move? In effect, the charging speed is reduced to half, right? [though the amount of charge transferred in total probably remains the same].
Also, does the N4 become hot while charging?
Since i cant buy the cool Panasonic Smartphones from Japan to use here on T-mobile, I'll buy this!

I first preordered this back when it was introduced at CES this year. I loved how it propped the N4 up and I longed for one like this. I know LG has one but can only be bought in Korea for an outrageous $130 bux on fleabay.
Months later, Tylt said it was cancelling all the pre orders and people like me were a bit disappointed. Keep in mind this was a little before the orb. So then the Orb came up and most of us grabbed it up like Charlie at the Chocolate factory, but some were met with the sliding issue. That officially sucked! I personally did not experience it, but it sucks that this stuff happens.
Come 7 months or so later, Tylt came back and released a Kickstarter. Earlybirds were to get the new Tylt VU in August according to KS. So I joined in on the 49 dollar level because the 39 level was snapped up. I got an email from Tylt a few days later stating that because I was a pre-order, they will grant me the Tylt at the KS earlybird price. AWESOMESAUCE! I immediately cancelled my pledge lol. Paid for the Tylt on July 2nd and got it today, 7/9 (surprisingly fast!) at work.
I excitedly posted a few quick pics on a thread but I wanted to give a quick take on it so far, that I have had time to use it a bit.
Attached you can see that the N4 is still charging in any orientation you want, which is cool. There is a LED to let you know the status of the charger under the front lip. You cant really see it unless you literally look at it straight on, which is also good; it's not BRIGHT like other QI pads I have used and heard about. Additionally, there's NO audible beep or anything from the stand. Just your phone if you have the OGG file on your phone (when less than 95% of course).
Will it continually charge when it reaches 100%? Looks like it keeps it topped off and then stops charging but according to my widgits, the phone does report it "charging" even though the settings say otherwise. This doesn't mean it's totally off and not charging, it trickle charges back up like the orb does in my case.
Like you see in the pics, I got the boring black lol. The build quality is nice. It is quite big for a charger, but it's going to be on my night stand lol. Would I recommend it? For my price of 39bux YES. For 70 bux it'd be a hard sell for me. It's not necessarily travel worthy like the LG pad or even the Energizer one. They are flat, while this is not.
Anyways here are the pics. Any questions please feel free to ask!

Negative. I actually never got to check back on tylt.com to check for any tracking numbers. By the time I was thinking to do so, it showed up on my desk.
Go here and get your order number and billing zip code and you can get a tracking number here if it shipped. I actually ordered on 7/2 and got it yesterday 7/9. With July 4 thrown in for a holiday, I really didn't expect it so fast!

Noooo...I initially did, but at the 49 early bird. But because I was initially a pre-order on their site, they extended the 39 early bird price to me, which I accepted! And in turn, cancelled my pledge on KS lol. Then was told that the charger would ship within two weeks, which turned out to be three days. :good:
I mean, getting it way before the Kickstarters (kinda weird) and saving 10 bux in my case. Right place and right time I guess.
OK reporting back on a couple of days of usage and have to say it's great. I may have to eat my hat a little and say that it may be worth the cash after all because, the usage is great, props my phone up so I can quickly glance in the room to see if there's a notification I have missed if I am not wearing my Pebble, and quickly see who's calling. Not to mention the ability to just grab and drop my phone on it willy-lilly lol. No fuss no muss, no aligning it in anyway.
This looks great! Wish I had seen it while it was cheaper. If I hadn't just switched jobs, this would be on the way to my house.
Its expensive, though i think its the best qi charger out there. I want one! I hope they put them on amazon or offer some other ways to buy them

Er...what's Flo? Oh the new N7? I would assume so.
I'm pretty happy with mine. It does seem to charge a bit slower and it is noticeably warmer (charging while in TPU case) but likely nothing to worry about. I wouldn't leave open anything intensive while it's charging for prolonged periods though, as the charge rate would be very slow and the device would heat up.
The stand does like to slide around on my desk though. Any thoughts on better securing it?

Mine charges pretty fast. It charges slower when the device is below 30% and charges and gets the phone pretty warm. Sometimes I need to reboot to let it go again. I never have to do that with my orb charger though.
As for securing it. You can try adding some rubber feet on the contact points. You can probably get them at a craft store or even home depot. Some self adhesive stubs. Or you can put a rubber mousepad and set it on top of that lol.

I think I got the answer for you!!!
http://www.tylt.com/faq/#vu
Q: How long does it take to charge my phone with the VU?
A: The VU is designed to provide as much power as your standard USB charger (1 Amp) and will charge as fast as your USB charger as long as your phone is designed to accept that much power.
Can you give us a photo of the power adapter (the end that plugs in to the VU itself)?
I'm curious if it's a generic one you could get your own adapter for.
I've just ordered one to be shipped to Aus, and would ideally like to avoid the need for an international adapter =)

Our AT&T LG G3 D850 model is the one marked "Not compatible"
Here is the official G3 slim hard case:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/LG-Official...Cell_Phone_PDA_Cases&var=&hash=item1c433e4848
LG Slim Hard Case:
LG Slim Guard Case:
I have not heard from anywhere that LG will be making their amazing beautiful case for our AT&T model. The mission is to find a backing and/or charging coil pad that is compatible to our matching charging shape (NFC + wireless charging = total of 4 connections with bigger gap in middle)
A quick search for PMA, Powermat charging stations on Amazon shows a decent one from Duracell:
http://www.amazon.com/Duracell-Powe...F8&qid=1406162696&sr=8-1&keywords=pma+charger
So no problem finding one of those.
Now that we know exactly which time of connection we need let's update here and see what we find for our G3s :good:
From what I have read, LG, at AT&T' s request, hardware disabled Qi charging on the AT&T variant. The PMA standard charges at a higher voltage than Qi. G3 battery covers that support Qi charging don't work with the AT&T variant. What is lacking for PMA charging is a choice of battery covers or just a reciever that one could put under the stock battery cover. The only way to do this is to get the pma circle case, take the the reciever out and put it onto the original battery cover.
Seems in the US, we have the inductive standard and a magnetic resonance standard. The resonance model seems superior at the moment. Both groups have joined to try to influence a world wide standard. Texas Instruments has a hardware chipset that can function with both Qi or PMA standard. Now to get someone to build a damn phone worth buying with this tech would bring it all full circle.
I think some of the reasons that PMA recievers aren't available like Qi recievers, is licensing.

From what I have read, LG, at AT&T' s request, hardware disabled Qi charging on the AT&T variant. The PMA standard charges at a higher voltage than Qi. G3 battery covers that support Qi charging don't work with the AT&T variant.

Seems to me if you used the qi charging sticker and adapted the contracts to match (creating the needed gap in the middle) it should work fine

This is the ghetto yet only possible option we have.... the stupid spaced gap in the middle of the 4 contacts. wondering if the S5 stickers will work for at least the wireless charging, since the 2 contacts are for nfc and the other 2 are for wireless charging!

Take a look over at the original G3/Assecories threads. Is all been tried and failed for the reasons I've mentioned above. Kind of stinks, but there are work arounds. Am I happy with it, no. I shouldn't have to jump through hoops for wireless charging. Yes we are first adopters & like cell service in the US, it's multiple competing standards backed by differing corporate entities.
Care to enlighten me a to why it wouldn't work? Yo your "above" doesn't cover what I'm suggesting

Just spent an hour reading on the general Accessories page. I guess the coils that have the correct contacts don't work with Powermats. They tried it.

Those people seem to want to use international pma stickers... Which baffles me why and also why it wouldn't work.
What I want to do is use the qi sticker, modified to add the gap, on an att phone

Do a search on PMA VS qi and your questions will be answered. I'm not trying to be an a$$, but this topic was covered pretty well. The original G3 forum was first, this forum was started well after the original. It is missing some good info regarding this particular matter.

If you have some key piece of information I'd love to hear it, but it seems to me a qi coil + a qi charger = power. All we need to do is get the contacts in the right place and the power will go to the battery.

I would love to, but aliexpress has issues with washington:
3. Fail to place order due to Washington address
Please note that due to legal restrictions, AliExpress is unable to provide Escrow service to residents located in Washington. Therefore, you are unable to choose Washington as your shipping address and the order can’t be placed successfully. However, please be assured that the Escrow service will resume later this year.

Take a minute to read through this whole thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g3/accessories/d850-qi-charging-mod-t2809994
The thread should have been migrated to the AT&T section to clear up any misinformation but it's still in the general section.
Everything has already been tried, only possible solution is probably something like what some folks have done to the Nokia 1520 > hardware transplant.
So there's a wireless communication protocol in both standards. I would guess it's being disabled on a software level since all the hardware other than the coil seems to be the same on the phone.
Perhaps if we ever get the bootloader unlocked this could change...
That's a good thread, thank you.

I'm still confident that Qi is disabled via software and can be somehow be enabled. I get that the lumia was hardware but that has been proven, too many post saying its hardware with the G3 D850 without any proof.

I found and bought a qi battery cover and have a qi charger...where the contacts align...no dough... I also have a qi sticker that plugs into microusb...that works because it's converting qi induction to standard micro usb.
For the 850, you will have to have use a pma coil to run wireless charging thru those contacts.

I know it's not a big deal but this is one of the reasons I haven't jumped on the G3 yet. I really like it except for this and some of the rumored performance/battery issues. I don't even care if I have to use PMA and replace all my charging pads but that circle case can't be my only choice!?!?

I made the jump from my N5, S5 and M8. I truly enjoy wireless charging, but this phone was too nice. I'm glad I made the switch. It does stink that the only choice is the Folio case. However, if you do need the wireless charging, you'll want to continue holding off as you have.

NFC sticker.. sorry to burst your bubble
Damn that's a huge nfc sticker
Plus it's only got two prongs those are for the NFC the other ones are for charging. The way I have been told if there are all 4 prongs then you got NFC and wireless charging.
You can do wireless charging you just have to use the LG Quickview case and the Duracell powermat. It'll only cost about $109 from an Att store. Im pondering it simply because the usb cable is a ***** to plug in.

Just tilt the cable ever do slightly and it goes right in. Also you can just order the right wireless back from online and install it In your phone...multiple threads on that.

It wouldn't wirelessly charge our AT&T phones bc our version uses PMA charging. everyone else has Qi charging. Those backplates are not compatible with the PMA charger bases
So it's not just a matter of how the chip in the back cover provides power to the pins? There's different internals or software regarding charging on the att g3? How are people buying qi chips and installing them? Or am I wrong on that?
Shoot. So the NFC chip isn't in the battery? Meaning if I use a case that replaces the back cover I lose NFC? That's less than ideal.

I picked up a circle case from aliexpress that *says* it does NFC and qi charging with the d850. Unfortunately I can't post the link because of forum restrictions but search aliexpress for lg g3 quick circle case.

Are there any links to the specific hardware changes internally and/or software differences between the D850 and other variants in regard to providing the PMA capability? I'm looking for the specific changes made. So far I can't find that listed anywhere but keep seeing people referencing the PMA situation with the D850. I'm trying to see how deep it's tied to PMA. Is it voltage on those pins? Is it linked to a specific driver builtin or bundled with the kernel?
Looking for ways to ditch PMA.

Just found out.
There's a chip and management software. The software is likely a kernel driver and service loaded at startup. There isn't much difference between the two and it's easy for chip makers to make them dual mode and dual QI/PMA chips are already on the market.
It wouldn't be worth the headache to mod this unless you really like to tinker, can cannibalize a chip from another G3 and load a ROM for that other variant. Not worth it. You're better off buying or trading for a variant.
I'm seeing some on Amazon with super suspect reviews. Like, one of them has 99% 5-star reviews. Come on, dude...
Can y'all share some LEGIT portable wireless chargers? Preferably some with REAL fast charging.
I have ordered this one.,
QI wireless charger, 20000mAh, price around 35 US$.
Can tell you more in a couple of days, should I get in the next days (has unfortunately around 4 weeks delivery time).

got it now. Works more as OK for this price. Can charge also if the device is in the cover. The HW looks professional. QI charging with stand works only if you put the phone horizontal on the stand , but this is ok. Think was a good deal. Shippment needs 3 weeks.
After some weeks using I can say it was a very good deal. Works perfect with my Note 9 on travel. I can really highly recommend this QI charger. Use it on my business trips including powerpoint presentations in combination with an little HDMI adapter and on the evening to view Netflix videos in the hotel.
I don't want miss it anymore...
I've got to get that!
I think using the descriptor “best” is relative. What may work for one may not work for another.
Take this product:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B077QRXLF6/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1
10000mah battery pack, usb 3 ports, qi standard. Display shows exact charge numerically. Even shows the voltage coming in and voltage going out of the ports and what the qi is sending out.
There is a led ring that shows light white when charging and dark blue when charged.
I like these so much I bought 3 for the 3 notes i have.
EDIT: does charge them with the samsung military grade case for the note 9 series as seen in the photos (may be hard to see the actual case but both units have the case on )
They look pretty cool. The light looks a little too bright though? Also, the top surface looks quite slippery?

Does look cool, I like the bright light, but I'd definitely want it to be optional, you wouldn't want that next to your bed when trying to sleep haha.
And yeah that super smooth surface does look like the phone would easily slide off, although it would be negated by a case that had some grip.
Not sure what happened, might just be a temporary thing, but it's currently unavailable?

That’s why i said not one product can be “best”.
I’m sure this is not designed to sit next to your bed at night. Its mostly aimed at people on the go /traveling.
The light ring is not bright. In a darkened room it will be noticeable, sure.
The top surface has plastic (shipping plastic). You can remove this plastic overlay as you see fit
Ive had these for about 3 weeks. I have used them 2-3 times per week (just to test on the charge times) and am very happy with the product price point and features.
You can also charge the product up whilst charging a qi enabled device (pass thru charging)
Does anyone make a car phone cradle holder with inbuilt wireless charger?
Sent from my SM-N960U1 using Tapatalk
Lots of people do wireless charging cradles for cars - I have an iOttie, two QiFulls and (my favourite - so good that I bought 3 of them), Samsung's own one.

Of course you are right, but for me personally is size and power (20000mah) decisive. And some small things like the vertical stand, the non slippery surface and the size (like the phone itself) seem to be thought-out....

^^^ thats why there are more options out there because not everyone has the same feature requests. I don’t particualry like portable upright chargers and the fact I have 3 of these means the 10 000mAh X3 (30000mAh? ) wlli be plenty. And if they are not, i have two portable power banks.
The product i listed here is just another option in the mix... not trying to steal thunder away from any one product..

The last thing I needed was yet another power bank (I have a couple of really hefty one - 26,800 mAh from Zendure and 30,000 mAh from iMuto - as well as a whole raft of smaller ones given away free at various trade shows), but none of them do wireless so I had to get one of these as well.
Ordered it on amazon.de and it arrived here in the UK in a couple of days. Initial impressions are favourable. It charges my Note 9 even in its Spigen Tough Armor case, and I like the ability to have the phone at an angle. It also seems to do passthrough (i.e. wireless charge the Note 9 while also being charged itself).
There's a USB-C socket for input (haven't tested whether it can also be used as an output) as well as MicroUSB in and 2 x USB A outputs.
yes, is no bad

Well, getting bogged down with semantics is a waste of time. I think most of us generally agree that when we say "best" we're implying that the product performs as expected and that it suits most of our needs/wants.
That charging pad you shared looks promising but it sucks that it's no longer available on Amazon. I hope more OEMs jump into this portable wireless charging game. We need more options, that's for sure.

I feel you on this. I'm down to two right now. One big one with enough amps to charge my laptop quick enough and a smaller Anker one for everything else. I want to replace the Anker one with a wireless one. Less cables to carry around.
