Hi,
This is my first post on the XDA forum so please forgive me if I make any mistakes, or post this thread under the wrong category.
To keep it simple: I was deleting/transferring some files from my phone (Nexus 5) to pc, and I came across this folder called storage, I'm not great when it comes to phones and I deleted it thinking I'm clearing up some much needed space.
A second later, all my pictures, files, downloads, whatsapp media, everything was gone. I had some essential files on it too, like my lecture recordings, which I desperately need.
I have no idea what to do now, I've tried using data recovery programs through windows but none of them can detect my phone.
What can I do?
Any help would be very very much appreciated.
Thanks a lot in advance.
Note: My phone is not rooted.
Sorry to say, but you're pretty much sol. Idk any way to get the files back if you deleted the whole directory.

If you have a custom recovery, you may find with adb the data still exists in /data/media/0
I say *may* because I don't know for sure but I'm guessing you simply deleted a link to the actual data.

wondering why my nandroid backup file is only 857mb. the way i understood is nandroid backs up everthing. like a ghost copy of phone. i am sure there is a good reason. but dont want to start messing around with stuff till i know i have a good backup. thanks
i did some digging and it sounds like it has something to do with my micro sd card maybe. if i understood it right i have to use a card with fat 32 format
My backup is on average 1.3gb but I have around 100 some apps.

That size actually looks about right, depending on how many apps you have installed.
CWM normally backs up everything that we care about; boot, system, data, cache, and recovery. It only backs up actual data though, so the backup will not equal the actual size of the storage medium.
Instead of doing a new thread i will just ask you from here.different subject though hope you don't mind. I had a shortcut for everything.me appear on my home screen.been googling it for hours with many diff. Words and no luck on how it got on my phone. I thought i was close once with a Android forum but i could not get in to see what forum said bout it. I have gut feeling that what ever that short cut on my home screen had something to do with not letting me see form. I sent everything.me short cut to trash and don't think it was anything but a short cut cause i searched my phone pretty good and did not see it. But it bugs me that i have not found out yet what i did to make it possible for something to put it there on its own. Thanks for any info.

I don't believe any of that will be a part of a nandroid backup.
I don't know where that shortcut came from, but there is an option in the Play Store to auto add widgets (don't know the exact wording) that automatically puts app shortcuts/widgets on your home screen I believe. It is one of the first things I turn off. Other than that, maybe an app you installed put it there. Hard to say really.
As for your music/pics/videos on your SD card. That is not normally backed up by CWM. The apps you have installed normally would be backed up, unless you have moved them to the SD card, or they were installed there to begin with. Keep in mind that some app data may not be backed up, just depends on where the app puts it.
might sound noobish but...
ok i have done a few nand back ups in the past, i am trying to locate them via ES File explorer but i cant seem to find them to delete them, i believe the file name was saved as the date they were backed up but i dont remember, can anyone help me with this? thanks

I'm trying to transfer my pictures and videos from my Nexus 4. There is about 8GB. I first transferred them to my laptop and then plugged in the Nexus 5 to transfer them to the new phone.
The phones android.process.media keeps crashing 1/4 of the way through the transfer. Even when I limit it to 100 pics at a time there is still some crashing somewhere. I just can't get a big batch of pics/vids to transfer.
Any idea why?
I get that too. Someone else reported it too. Not sure how to fix it right now though.

I transferred what I needed with NFC, if they're still on your N4 you could try that.

off topic but man you really have been a diehard Google phone user since day one. Props to you.
but on topic: try what this guy did

He cleared out cache and data on Media Storage.
USB port damaged..? Can you try another PC? when it's the same the phone has a problem.. Last try could be factory reset..

In a pinch, you could try sending an entire folder via adb push. If you don't have ADB set up and working yet, there are guides available. I realize the average end-user shouldn't have to do this but it's worth a mention.
For example:
adb push ./bigassphotofolder /sdcard/bigassphotofolder
And then wait... quite a while... until it finishes.
An alternate "cloud solution" if you don't need them all stored locally is to put them in Google+ Photos.
Use Airdroid and wifi instead. Excellent app.

Haha thanks man. I've also had other phones too like the HTC Sensation (not worth mentioning, I hated that thing).

That's a disadvantage yes. Also if you are using a desktop computer with multiple USB ports, make sure you are connected directly to a rear port and not to a hub or a front port. That can make a real speed difference.
Hello
I'm having the same problem trying to transfer files from my Nexus 4 to my Nexus 5.
I'm using adb push and while some folders would transfer without problems, others would simply get stuck halfway. No error message or anything. It's just stops and I have to Ctrl+C and retry and the whole operation.
It's frustrating yesterday I've spent the whole day with this and I still could finish copying the files, so I'm still on my old phone.
Is there anything reliable like adb push but with resume support, or at least that skips existing files?
Thanks.

I always use an FTP server, but Airdroid works.
I use "ES Explorer" - Tools - Remote manager

Thanks. I ended up using SSHDroidPro. Paired with WinSCP I was able to transfer everything over, and finally I'm using my new phone. Up until now I was under the impression that a USB cable was faster than Wi-Fi, and that adb was the most robust way of moving files. I guess I was wrong on both fronts. Oh well, I learned something new
Cheers.
The easiest way to prevent the FCs is to do as follows:
1. When copying audio/video etc, select 'Camera (PTP)' as the connection from the statusbar dropdown.
2. When copying music, select 'Media device (MTP)'
No more FCs.
I just got my nexus last night and I did the same thing as op and was getting the same error. Will try some other things when I get home tonight.

I have the same issue on my Nexus 5 and glad it's not just me. I never had anything like this happen on my Note 2 so it was really weird seeing it happen.
I had to resort to using Airdroid, which is highly annoying because anything over 100 files takes forever to load into the web interface and even has Chrome thinking the tab has crashed when it hasn't. I had to load files 100 at a time onto my Nexus 5.
I hope Google can fix this. Does anyone know if a bug report was filed? Is Google aware of this issue?
Hmm I have around 2500 pictures and 1k songs to transfer...I think I might wait for a better solution

I have almost 2000 wallpapers that I use with a rotation app. Air droid worked for transferring them all as I was having the same issue.

On a related note, I have noticed with past transfers that adb pull does not preserve created/modified date flags, while adb push does. In particular it does this with photos which then confuses the gallery. So often I have had to use Windows copy to dump files without losing the date stamp, and adb push to put everything back en masse.
(Sigh, I do miss the days when this entire process consisted of moving a microSD to the new phone)
Hi guys, just to let you know that I've lost all my "Camera" files (in the Google Camera application (pictures and videos)). They simply disappeared (the ones before the April 30th, 2014).
I did not delete them manually or accidentally
I did not install strange apps
Storage indicate Image & Videos size of 16MBs (instead of 2GBs...)
For what it's worth, I scanned my Nexus 5 with TrustGo, and no bad app was reported
I checked and searched with ES Explorer for all files starting with IMG_* (only the 8 recent pictures were found, even with "deep" search)
I tried some recovery software, but I understand that they won't work because there is no SD card.
My Nexus 5 is not rooted, so I can't use DiskDigger or similar software, and rooting removes all files, right?
Am I definitely screwed or do you see something I missed? Or something I could try?
Thanks for reading!
If you plug into the computer can you find them via windows explorer? There is an internal SD card
Thanks for your suggestion. I tried that too and browsed through the folders (DCIM, media, ...) and nothing.
Nothing you can do then.

Thanks rootSU for the useful links. I read your post, then I found http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...de-internal-memory-data-recovery-yes-t1994705
One of the requirements is: "A rooted Android phone, (try to root with a non-destructive method as this appears to protect those who must root from wiping the device data a second time)".
Do you know any method to root the Nexus 5 with a non-destructive method? So I could copy the internal memory with adb, and so on.
Edit: by http://forum.xda-developers.com/google-nexus-5/help/root-nexus-5-wiping-data-t2650226 we can say that there really is nothing to do. Thanks guys for giving me the info quickly. I can now move back to my work, and try to forgive whatever caused that (probably a faulty app, or an app update). I don't want to sync with cloud, but I'll definitely try to sync with iPhoto from now on. This will serve as a lesson!
You can use foldersync to sync to a computer as long as its on.

Folks
I really need some help here.
I backed up my data using Helium, and cannot restore it at all. At this point I am primarily interested in whatsapp because I have a whole lot of messages there. I backed up my data to the internal SD card, copied the carbon folder, wiped my phone and put the carbon folder back. I have tried reading other threads of doing the PC download and copying my data over among other things, nothing works. I really need to get the data back, just for one app. Even tried opening the .ab file based on this: http://android.stackexchange.com/qu...ta-from-a-full-backup-made-through-adb-backup still no go. Tried to restore it from here, still no go. Please help!
What I really dont understand about Helium is if it does not support deleting and recopying the folder back on the phone, why even give an internal SD card option!! Apparently the paid version works great with dropbox et al. Itis just so damn frustrating to see an app that claims it works on internal SD, but the use case doesnt seem that useful unless all you want to do is restore the data without any kind of wipe. A warning would have been nice, clearly stating it atleast once considering the developer has put it on his wiki.
Thanks, sorry about the frustrated rant.
I'm sorry, I don't have an answer to your question.
Just wanted to say, titanium backup is known as the best for a reason. After you hopefully settle your issue....try it.
Unfortunately, I don't have an answer for you either, but I had a very similar experience with that app about a year ago. It was the paid version and Dropbox/Google Drive restores were no more useful than what i had copied locally. Now I just use Titanium and command line adb.

Hi, hope someone can help...Saturday morning I connected my Verizon Note 7 to my computer and went to copy over some content to my PC and I accidentally deleted the DCIM folder from my phone's internal memory when it momentarily locked up. It deleted instead of copying it. I had not copied anything over to the PC so there is no backup data there.
In the DCIM folder was about 1000 pictures and videos of my kids and family from the last 4 months, everything prior to that was backed up elsewhere already. The most important thing is pictures and videos from my daughters wedding in November! Those videos have huge sentimental value and are unfortunately irreplaceable!
Everything I've read online hasn't helped at all, the phone is not rooted or anything and I haven't rooted a phone since maybe 2010? Not sure what's even involved in that anymore. I'm pretty sure I'd need to do that to make my internal storage show up on any of the recovery apps but I'm honestly clueless with the app names and acronyms I've seen while researching this issue.
Any insight to how I can recover this data is appreciated! I typically backup my phone more often and it just slipped my mind recently. Was going to backup this morning since my Note 7 got turned off yesterday.
If anyone can help, it would be incredibly appreciated!!! I don't know where to turn to. If this is posted in the wrong section, I'm sorry for the mistake, feel free to move.
Thank you!!!
Hi !
You can try this tutorial
https://forum.xda-developers.com/ga...de-internal-memory-data-recovery-yes-t1994705
Or you can Google search for DCIM android folder recovery
Good luck !
