[Q] nandroid backup file size - Samsung Galaxy S Blaze 4G

wondering why my nandroid backup file is only 857mb. the way i understood is nandroid backs up everthing. like a ghost copy of phone. i am sure there is a good reason. but dont want to start messing around with stuff till i know i have a good backup. thanks
i did some digging and it sounds like it has something to do with my micro sd card maybe. if i understood it right i have to use a card with fat 32 format

My backup is on average 1.3gb but I have around 100 some apps.

That size actually looks about right, depending on how many apps you have installed.
CWM normally backs up everything that we care about; boot, system, data, cache, and recovery. It only backs up actual data though, so the backup will not equal the actual size of the storage medium.

Instead of doing a new thread i will just ask you from here.different subject though hope you don't mind. I had a shortcut for everything.me appear on my home screen.been googling it for hours with many diff. Words and no luck on how it got on my phone. I thought i was close once with a Android forum but i could not get in to see what forum said bout it. I have gut feeling that what ever that short cut on my home screen had something to do with not letting me see form. I sent everything.me short cut to trash and don't think it was anything but a short cut cause i searched my phone pretty good and did not see it. But it bugs me that i have not found out yet what i did to make it possible for something to put it there on its own. Thanks for any info.

I don't believe any of that will be a part of a nandroid backup.

I don't know where that shortcut came from, but there is an option in the Play Store to auto add widgets (don't know the exact wording) that automatically puts app shortcuts/widgets on your home screen I believe. It is one of the first things I turn off. Other than that, maybe an app you installed put it there. Hard to say really.
As for your music/pics/videos on your SD card. That is not normally backed up by CWM. The apps you have installed normally would be backed up, unless you have moved them to the SD card, or they were installed there to begin with. Keep in mind that some app data may not be backed up, just depends on where the app puts it.

might sound noobish but...
ok i have done a few nand back ups in the past, i am trying to locate them via ES File explorer but i cant seem to find them to delete them, i believe the file name was saved as the date they were backed up but i dont remember, can anyone help me with this? thanks

[Q] Need Some Help with An EVO back up

First want to say hi. I want to backup my evo since im replacing it with a newer evo since there is a problem with mine its hardware problem. but any way is there a way i can completly take everything from my current phone to new one Apps photos settings launcher pro(paid)im getting the phone tom they called todayso plz help me out plz try and keep it simple if possible
First you should be aware that all of your paid apps are permanently tied to the Google account that you used / created when you first set up the phone. This means that as long as you use the same credentials when setting up the new EVO you will find all off your purchased apps waiting for you in the market.
Second know that most of your personal data is stored on the SD card as opposed to the phone memory itself. If you reuse the same card you will likely find your data is waiting code you without using a backup restore utility.
Despite the above I am a fervent devotee to backing up and use several apps in tandem. I you only have one I think Titanium Backup is the way to go. My Backup Pro another alternative. These will backup and restore all of your apps with data so it is like you never lost a beat. They will even restore desktop layout and call logs or text messages.
My last advice is to get the free app called dropbox. T give you 2 gigs of online storage which get linked to a special folder on your phone. Put a file in the folder and it will get uploaded into your web vault. From there you can access the files from your PC as well.

[Q] Recovering data after root?

I'm about to root my new NS and every guide I see reminds me that the internal storage ("SD card") will be wiped - I'm cool with that. But since I'm unrooted I can't use Titanium yet to back up my apps.
So my question is - once I root, what's the best way to get everything back without manually doing everything all over again?

I see a lot of people say appbrain lets them easily reinstall all their apps after a wipe. Apps, but not app data.
Not sure how that works, i haven't tried it myself. edit: little google search revealed this on how to do it:
Without root, there's no way you're going to save your data that's on the internal storage space.

Yeah I just read some more about it - apparently it's just not at all possible yet, or ever.
Oh well better get to rooting before I have TOO much to lose.

Yeah, that's why I'm an early rooter on all my phones.
App developer's should be encouraged (or allowed by Google) to put their app data into someplace that the user can back up.
I wonder if the reason app data is put in a root-only read place of the device by default is part of the sand-boxing security.
Best backup before root
The only thing I really had to hunt for was to backup Angry Birds. Thankfully there's an app called Angry Cheaters that is both free and gives you save files for Angry Birds.
I just went through this process yesterday. Google actually saves most/all of your apps and will reinstall when you reenter you gmail address. It also restored my wifi passwords (in addition to obvious things like email/contacts). Just be careful if you have to wipe multiple times while exploring root that you let this process do its thing, it forgot a few apps that way. Thankfully appbrain had moved all of my previous apps to another list.
The only other thing I couldn't back up was some auto mileage data, so I just wrote that into notepad and called it a day.
Is there anything else you are specifically trying to get? I was really only focused on Angry Birds.
Hmmm here is a question/thought
If unlocking your bootloader whipes everything clean, would it be a possibility to run data harvesting apps on the device to get w.e data you lost back?
both on the "sd" and /data/data
I use an app called "rsync backup" ... it can generate a DSS key to install on your server of choice, and tell it to back up /mnt/sdcard/ ... the only thing it won't access on the USB Storage area is a folder called ".android_secure" ... but everything else copies just fine.
I routinely sync my phone with this app to my workstation at the office, and a system at home.
haha.. this is why i unlocked the bootloader/rooted my s right away, i didnt have any data to back up. makes it painless

Delete Downloads?

I was looking at my sd card and noticed I have alomst 16mb of what could be useless data. Is there any reason I shouldn't delete these files?
What exactly are you contemplating deleting?

Your post couldn't be much more vague. Just move the files to your PC and keep them there as a backup for a few days. Case closed.
If you want help, then be more informative lol..
What types of files exactly?
But it seems your talking about your doownlods, well then delete the files you dont need? (downloaded)
Whenever I download and install a file, I delete it after, since Ive already used/installed it. (like applications etc)
Sense (at least I think it's Sense - maybe it's just Android in general cause I think it's happened with both HTC Mail and stock Android Email) has this annoying habit of saving every email attachment (including borders and other things that might be included in HTML formatted messages) in your Downloads folder. So even if you delete everything, next time your mail syncs most of it will probably be replaced
Edit: Maybe it's just HTC Mail that does it. I currently have the AOSP Google Email apk installed on a Sense ROM, just cleared the Download folder, resynced my mail, and it doesn't appear to have put all the BS back in there.
My advise would be get a bigger card if your worried about 16mbs.

16MB is hardly any considerable space, unless it were my first computer bought back in 1997 when having 32 MB RAM was considered luxury

[Q] Helium

Folks
I really need some help here.
I backed up my data using Helium, and cannot restore it at all. At this point I am primarily interested in whatsapp because I have a whole lot of messages there. I backed up my data to the internal SD card, copied the carbon folder, wiped my phone and put the carbon folder back. I have tried reading other threads of doing the PC download and copying my data over among other things, nothing works. I really need to get the data back, just for one app. Even tried opening the .ab file based on this: http://android.stackexchange.com/qu...ta-from-a-full-backup-made-through-adb-backup still no go. Tried to restore it from here, still no go. Please help!
What I really dont understand about Helium is if it does not support deleting and recopying the folder back on the phone, why even give an internal SD card option!! Apparently the paid version works great with dropbox et al. Itis just so damn frustrating to see an app that claims it works on internal SD, but the use case doesnt seem that useful unless all you want to do is restore the data without any kind of wipe. A warning would have been nice, clearly stating it atleast once considering the developer has put it on his wiki.
Thanks, sorry about the frustrated rant.
I'm sorry, I don't have an answer to your question.
Just wanted to say, titanium backup is known as the best for a reason. After you hopefully settle your issue....try it.
Unfortunately, I don't have an answer for you either, but I had a very similar experience with that app about a year ago. It was the paid version and Dropbox/Google Drive restores were no more useful than what i had copied locally. Now I just use Titanium and command line adb.

Please Help!! I Deleted my Photos

So I selected photo to delete and it somehow selected albums. So now Almost all my important pictures and videos are gone. I downloaded several apps and got back a good bit of pictures but I did not recover any videos. I read several pages about rooting the phone to actually get all the stuff back. Is this something that needs done? Also doesn't rooting wipe your phone so would that get rid of the deleted items? I am so devastated those pictures were my life and like an idiot I didn't back them up. Any ideas on how I can recover them?
Any ideas? I read an article saying you can root the phone and still recover deleted items but want to see what you guys think.

If your files were stored internal there's a big chance that the rest might've got overwritten by other applications. On SD-Card you might be able to get more back but if you worked with it (meaning storing other files or probably even editing), it will most likely overwrite them.
Since every phone behaves different I can't say what you should use. I can only say what I read the most people suggesting.
They talk about the program recuva, which runs on your computer. After connecting your phone to your pc, they say you should run a 'deep scan'.
I never used it myself so I can't say if it works. You'd have to search how to use it.
(Program Link: Piriform - Recouva)
Rooting might also help in your favor, because those apps have more access to the storage and can perform actions normal apps can't do in there rather limited workspace.
But rooting also means writting/modifying data on your phone which could use the space where the remainings of your files are stored (deppends if they are internal or external/sd-card).
But from my expirence on pc, chances are very slim that you get all of your files back. I accidentally formatted my hard disk and after force stopping the process I only could restore about ~30% of my files (and most of them were corrupted).
You see formating or deleting doesn't actually delets stuff.
You could see all your stored files as a book and the index is that what you can see in your file manager. When you delete something it doesn't touches the file at first, it only deletes the entry in the index that a file was at that point in your storage and tells the system that place is free to use again. So apps will begin using that free space. After that it becomes almost imposible to get the file back.
