Folks
I really need some help here.
I backed up my data using Helium, and cannot restore it at all. At this point I am primarily interested in whatsapp because I have a whole lot of messages there. I backed up my data to the internal SD card, copied the carbon folder, wiped my phone and put the carbon folder back. I have tried reading other threads of doing the PC download and copying my data over among other things, nothing works. I really need to get the data back, just for one app. Even tried opening the .ab file based on this: http://android.stackexchange.com/qu...ta-from-a-full-backup-made-through-adb-backup still no go. Tried to restore it from here, still no go. Please help!
What I really dont understand about Helium is if it does not support deleting and recopying the folder back on the phone, why even give an internal SD card option!! Apparently the paid version works great with dropbox et al. Itis just so damn frustrating to see an app that claims it works on internal SD, but the use case doesnt seem that useful unless all you want to do is restore the data without any kind of wipe. A warning would have been nice, clearly stating it atleast once considering the developer has put it on his wiki.
Thanks, sorry about the frustrated rant.
I'm sorry, I don't have an answer to your question.
Just wanted to say, titanium backup is known as the best for a reason. After you hopefully settle your issue....try it.
Unfortunately, I don't have an answer for you either, but I had a very similar experience with that app about a year ago. It was the paid version and Dropbox/Google Drive restores were no more useful than what i had copied locally. Now I just use Titanium and command line adb.

First want to say hi. I want to backup my evo since im replacing it with a newer evo since there is a problem with mine its hardware problem. but any way is there a way i can completly take everything from my current phone to new one Apps photos settings launcher pro(paid)im getting the phone tom they called todayso plz help me out plz try and keep it simple if possible
First you should be aware that all of your paid apps are permanently tied to the Google account that you used / created when you first set up the phone. This means that as long as you use the same credentials when setting up the new EVO you will find all off your purchased apps waiting for you in the market.
Second know that most of your personal data is stored on the SD card as opposed to the phone memory itself. If you reuse the same card you will likely find your data is waiting code you without using a backup restore utility.
Despite the above I am a fervent devotee to backing up and use several apps in tandem. I you only have one I think Titanium Backup is the way to go. My Backup Pro another alternative. These will backup and restore all of your apps with data so it is like you never lost a beat. They will even restore desktop layout and call logs or text messages.
My last advice is to get the free app called dropbox. T give you 2 gigs of online storage which get linked to a special folder on your phone. Put a file in the folder and it will get uploaded into your web vault. From there you can access the files from your PC as well.

Evening all ... still learning my EVO on Sprint and loving it. I am testing some ROM's to see which I like best, and got an out of SD storage error while using the camera. Using DiskUsage tool I noticed the following 2 largest folders;
clockworkmod - 5289MB
backup - 4664MB
So now I know where my space is! I haven't wiped the phone on each rom install (using ROM manager) and did select the backup. My sync cable is at work so I am looking via astro and do see 6 or so backups under the clockwork/backup folder. As I'm typing this, I really am thinking the reply will be 'yes' I will laugh at my stupidity and move along a bit wiser, but I haven't played with restoring as I haven't had the need, but since things are running good using cygan, can I simply pick a few of the older backups and just delete?
Being used to linux, I am not sure if these are flagged somewhere (I will compare to a grub lst file) I just don't want to run into an issue where I need to restore, see 7 but only 1 or 2 backups exist, so will simply removing the folder like 2011-01-03-14.49 remove, give me some space and everything nice and happy again
Thanks
Yea, just remove all the backups you are sure you won't need. I normally only have one back up. Backs ups take up lots of space. I suggest download dropbox app. You can put some of your back ups on there in "the cloud" so it doesn't use up your precious SD card space.
Cool, thanks for the advice (and app suggestion)!
Curious question. So I just recently purchased a microsd card, and I'm about to perform a hard reset so it'll work.. My phone is student developer unlocked and all, so I'm following the legit Mango update currently.
Before the first beta update, I backed up and saved a copy of the back up on my hard drive, whereas it's 6GB. (I reinstalled my computer shortly after, if this matters)
Now, after updating to the final 7720 last night, I checked the backup folder place in Users AppData etcetc., and it's only 774MB. What just happened..?
Edit: New problem now; posted in the fourth post but in case you didn't feel like scrolling down there:
Great. Error code 80180090 after trying to restore. Did a quick Google check and other people have been having the same problem after installing a microsd; guessing that it the restores must match the same amount of space previously?
Is there a way around this?
Previous backups are overwritten. Also the way the phones are backed up now has changed. Before it would back up all your media like music but now it doesn't so the backups are much quicker and smaller.

that is correct
In addition, if you need to you can copy your backed up restore point (good move!) to where the most recent one is located (AppData etcetc, make a backup of that before as well). Zune should now see the backup you created (easily seen in the date of the restore point within Zune). If you restore it will restore your 6Gb of data.

Restore points can only be used with the exact same hardware as they were created from. A microSD card or a different phone (even if it's the same model) won't work. Nobody has found a way around this yet.
Now that people have had the device for a few days, I was hoping their to headstart could help potential switchers and as the SR doesn't have it's own forum yet so I'm asking here.
Newbie alert!!!!
I am wondering how easy it will be to move from the Gs2 to the skyrocket? Basically any recommended ways of moving my apps, texts, pictures, etc to the SdCARD and back from the SdCard to the new phone? Contacts are synced with Google Contacts so no problems there, my main concern is with paid apps, I'd rather not pay for them again.
Can I back up apps via TiBU and restore them on the Skyrocket? Or can I just reinstall them on the new phone?
End of Newbie question!!!!
Paid apps are in your google account as well, you will be able to reinstall all your paid apps through the market (without repaying) by just signing in to your same google account.
The only thing you need to backup is your pictures/music.
Here's what I did to migrate to my Skyrocket from my Captivate:
*Duh Alert* Have your original phone rooted and Titanium Pro installed.
Original Phone
1. Backup APK & Data with Titanium.
2. Locate where backup directory is on your phone. Mine was \sdcard\TitaniumBackup
3. Mount original phone and copy backup directory to your computer.
New Hotness
1. Root that bad boy. Search the site, its here.
2. Install Titanium Pro from market.
3. Back up 1 app, pick something silly. That will create the backup directory.
4. Mount the new hotness and copy your saved directory from your computer to the Skyrocket.
5. Restore apps. I did one at a time cuz I didn't want everything installed on the new phone.
95% of the apps and data restored properly.
Simplistic, yes....but it works. Go forth and multiply.
If you want the smoothest experience on your Skyrocket, do NOT use a backup tool to bring over apps, just reinstall them from the Market.
Copying apps and app date with a tool like Titanium does and WILL cause some issues.

To partially agree with you I tried using MyBackUp Pro and almost everything failed. That's what I deserve for buying that one first back in the day. BUT....Titanium worked great. All of my paid apps were as good as gold.
Plus, if you want your saved data, wouldn't you have to use a backup tool?

If your just trying to backup like game saves then sometimes. A lot of times that data can be backed up by just mounting your sdcard to your computer and copying the files. Some games do save the data in funny locations so you do need (easier) to use something like Titanium, but you are always better off starting from as scratch as possible to avoid issues later.
Moving an app to save you from entering your login info for example, is just a bad idea. Most apps have no real data to backup, simple 2 second settings etc....

i have found that most issues with TiBu are do to you trying to restore System Information......i used tibu to restore my apps on the Skyrockert. i just picked APPS only with out system data.
worked fine i have not seen a hickup on any device or install after a flash of new Rom.

+1
TiBu works great, usually, for restoring NON-System apps and their data.
Avoid restoring system apps/data.
Also, if you do happen to run into a problem with a particular restored app, all you need to do is uninstall/reinstall it and then use TiBu to restore the "data only" for that app.
This has always worked for me.
y?
Its basically the same phone, screen tiny bit bigger and it edges r round, and the. 3 faster CPU is not noticeable, and if u don't live in the handful of citys that have lte network what's the point by the time LTE gets fully activated skyrocket will be old phone something way better out, now if u didn't have the gs2 already if say hell ya but since u do wasted money IMO
I made backups of my nexus 4 apps using helium, ready to restore them to my new nexus 5.
Also used helium to make backups of the missus' apps on her galaxy s3, ready to restore them to my old nexus 4 (which she is having).
On both devices I cannot restore the backups, it says there are no backups on internal storage.
Of course now I have wiped the nexus 4 so I can't try again. What's going on?
I have seen posts from other people on this issue but I have been unable to find an actual answer. The various workarounds mentioned do not work.
I thought I might get by without rooting my new N5 this time but I did want to transfer all of my apps and data from my galaxy nexus. I gave helium a try and had exactly the same results as you had. Fortunately I hadn't wiped my galaxy nexus so I broke down and rooted the N5 and used titanium to do the transfer.
I was really surprised at how almost non-existent was the helium support community. It was a real wake-up call. I decided there was no way I could rely on this product. Support is too thin, even if it was working, to rely on it. Too bad because there is no other option for non-root full backup.

Yeah, unfortunately I am not prepared to root at all so I have lucked out on that. A bit peeved that I have lost a lot of game data/progress now but it's not the end of the world, worse thing happen.
Though I will certainly not trust helium ever again...
I had similar problem when switching roms on my old phone. Something got into me and I thought I'd try Helium. Have you tried this:
1. Install the app from Play. When you backup you can usually restore when you want to immediately on the same phone.
2. Overwrite the backup of the freshly installed app with your original backup. Don't delete anything, just overwrite only backup file (the largest, I don't remember extension)
3. Restore.
You can also do backups without rooting using adb backup.
I saw that workaround somewhere around the net but when I tried it only came up with three apps to restore (out of around 30-ish) and none of those actually restored anything.
Also tried the web interface thing, which didn't work either.
