H/W decoder for MX player - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi
I used h/w in MX for playing some mkvs without lag in some ROMs such as crdroid and candy ...
But now I'm using stock and I really need those codecs
Any idea what i should do?
PS I did try updated GPU drivers ... Same as before
Tnx a lot

There is (or was at least) codecs in the Playstore for MX by the dev. I used to use them at least on previous devices.

There are neon codecs available through the app menu to allow h/w decoding of DTS over the network, if thats what you mean?

Never had an issue with the correct settings. I'm on L now though so can't really compare now.

I finally figured it out
Its based on kernel. I flashed uber and hw was working without any laggs

ICS roms choppy video fix

I couldn't find a video player that would work with cyanogen mod 9 ics rom because lack of hardware acceleration i found that MX video player (free) does work perfectly on my p1000 galaxy tab when set to software decoding though just thought i would let everyone know because i was trying multiple things to get it to work. I have only tried this with .3gp video though. My ics rom does everything I need it to now, hope this helps .

If you look in the description of the video you posted its using mx video player thats why its working because currently there is no hardware acceleration.
I still get like a tear looking thing on the upper right part of the screen. How to fix that?

When I posted this It was working with software decoder only, you are using a slimdizzy rom a nightly build I was using "CM9 (WIP)" at the time. Now hardware acceleration works fine anyways on Milestone 4 rom.
Update MoboPlayer works better than Mx Video Player
I have found out MoboPlayer is a better solution for a video player. Mx Video Player seems to have some glitches with video playback. I am using build #28 AOKP ICS rom with MoboPlayer and am very pleased with MoboPlayer it works perfect with no choppy playback at all.

[Q][Answered] Asus MemoPad HD 7 - H/W+ Decoder Problem

H/W+ Decoder doesn't work properly ..... It can play every video and works great with the codecs for DTS, but if you just fastforward...just one time, it will stop and you have to restart the video.
H/W Decoder is working properly when you do a fastforward but it is lagging while you are going fastforward and sometimes there are problems with the codecs. So please try to fix that :good:
It a great tablet but it is horrible to use with MXPlayer
Thx Akubus

Try to use default codec.
Is it happening without custom codec?
If it happening with the default codecs, then the problem is not with the player.
HW+ is not compatible with all devices. If you have any problem with HW+, then try SW mode.
It is happening with both codecs. Custom and DTS Codec. S/W is not working quite as well as H/W+. It would be very nice to have a working H/W+ Decoder

The problem is that meadiatek does not provide any source code. Without the framework source it is not possible to fully implement HW+. I do have same problem. But, there is no work around.

MX Player Pro Plays Choppy MKV after Latest Updates

Hello
I recently updated MX Player Pro to 1.8.10 and was also prompted to update the custom codec to 1.8.6 . Not the best decision i ever made as now MKV is virtually unplayable and choppy .
If i open the same files in XBMC on my MINIX Neo U1 everything plays smoothly including large MKV .
I hope this can be fixed . And as its my first post , i'd like to say hello to all of you and to thank you in advance .

Basically HW & HW+ will be very smooth if it's supported by your device. SW uses CPU instead of GPU. So, it will be laggy if the processor is not powerful enough.

I personally prefer HW+.
Enable HW+ from Decoder Settings. If you are on Lollipop (5.0) or newer android version, enable Alternative HW+ as well. Most of the time, HW+ works better than anyother decoder.

Thanks both for the tips .
The only problem I sometimes have on my Minix Neo U1 is that when a video plays , unless I choose sw decoder at the top of the video screen I will occasionally get the audio playing very echoed unless sw decoder is used .
The videos play smooth with HW + but audio isn't played right .
Bh ghe wqy , The Minix is a great player and can handle files 8gb plus and also 4k easily.
So not sure why the audio likes sw decoder !
Anything i can try ?
Thanks again .

If it's so, just enable SW audio in decoder settings. It will enable SW for all videos.

I just had a play with the settings and it is actually software audio which causes the echo ... HW decoder all round , seems to be best for me , HW + I noticed a bit of lag .

MX player Pro build 1.9.5 dropped MPEG2 support?

mpeg2video has broken in last version of MX Player Pro 1.9.5. It reports "This video format (mpeg2video) is not supported".
MX Player Pro 1.9.5 ARMv7 Neon was installed from Google Play.
Hello,
My MX Player Pro was updated to 1.9.5 from Play Store.
Since the update, I cannot play any MPEG2 videos.
Before the update all .mpg, .ts and .REC video files worked fine.
Now I get "This video format (mpeg2video) is not supported."
(well, mine is in finnish but it translates to that)
Is this a bug or planned issue?
My player is ARMv7 NEON on Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 & Samsung Galaxy S7

No, not yet.
Actually, for years I have just been using MX Player without any problems and without knowing about any custom codecs.
All my files has been standard mpeg2, mpeg4 or h264 stuff so nothing custom about them at all.
All these including mpeg2 have been working fine for years now.
So maybe I will need to look in to those.
mpeg2video not supported
After upgrading MX Player to 1.9.6 at Samsung S5Neo the .ts files recorded at Synology from DVB-T cannot be played. It says "mpeg2video not supported". Same applies to the DVB-T live stream.
Use custom codec.
You also started a duplicate thread.

So is this really the way things work with MX Player Pro from now on?
I must use custom codec to watch mpeg2 decoded videos and for every new update of MX Player I will need to get new custom codec?
I updated the MX Player Pro yesterday to 1.9.8 (I think it was 1.9.5) and now the custom codec (1.9.0) that I have won’t work with it.

Goodbye MX Player
I won't be using this app anymore. I need mpeg2. Period.
No reason to have this app without it.
No time to root my android tablet or play little games with codecs.
It used to to a good job, now it is just a vegetable.

It's every streamed video on the Nvidia Shield TV. I've got SMB shares mounted on the Shield and these "local" videos all works fine.
Where things are broken is with network streamed (I generally use Terrarium TV). HW+ and Software decoders both now refuse to work, only HW works after the last MX app updates and even HW crashes midstream at times complaining of not supporting the video codec (even though it's already been playing just fine).
Here's a bug report directly after starting play of a streamed file as HW, and just after I've tried to use HW+ and Software (to try and ensure it contains something useful).
