HW+ Issues on MX Player 1.9.7 - MX Player

anyone else get choppy hw+ playback on their oneplus 5? issue disappears completely when using sw or regular hw decoder

I'm finding the MX Player betas are really flakey right now.. The lastest one fixed seeking with the remote control (finally - was broken since the last stable) but somehow broke HW+ decoding on the Nvidia Shield TV, which has always worked flawlessly before.

It will be better if you can provide a sample video or link to a sample video that has issues.

It's every streamed video on the Nvidia Shield TV. I've got SMB shares mounted on the Shield and these "local" videos all works fine.
Where things are broken is with network streamed (I generally use Terrarium TV). HW+ and Software decoders both now refuse to work, only HW works after the last MX app updates and even HW crashes midstream at times complaining of not supporting the video codec (even though it's already been playing just fine).
Here's a bug report directly after starting play of a streamed file as HW, and just after I've tried to use HW+ and Software (to try and ensure it contains something useful).

Can collect the bug report & share here.
FYI, now if you disable the subtitle on one video it will be disabled on further playbacks. You have to manually select the subtitle again. Once you select the subtitle it will be enabled everytime till you disable it again.

I cannot remember what video it was, but it was an mkv, when playing a video the subtitles would show even though they were disabled, then if i enabled subtitles i would have two identical sets of subtitles, though one set was a few pixels apart from the other.

Subtitle rendering & Media Playback both are individual functions. It less likely to conflict.
Just downloaded the original video & tested myself. After test & trails I have found that "Improve SSA rendering" option in Settings > Subtitle > Text is somehow affects when using new HW+ decoder for video decoding. Report passed to the developer. Just disable it as a temporary solution till the developer fixes the issue.
Edit: Update from developer
@caspianprince
It's internally fixed & next update will fix the issue with SSA subtitle rendering issue when used with new HW+.

It's not a bug. Android 5.0+ provides a official API to use system decoders in native programming language. When a particular encoding profile is not supported you may still have issues in new HW+ as well.

Phone crashes when seeking HEVC

Phone: Google Pixel XL
Android 7.1.1
Stock ROM
MX Player v1.8.10
MX Player Custom Codec installed, HW+ encoding enabled
Ok so here's the thing, when i play a HEVC video (any resolution,8 bit or 10 bit doesnt matter either) it plays fine as long as i dont try to forward/seek. As soon as i do that, my phone crashes and reboots. This happens on HW+, but not on SW. Also, i thought the Pixel had hardware decoding for HEVC but im not able to play the video in HW decoder in MX Player.
Since the phone crashes, i dont think i can gather any logs either. Any help ?

Regarding HW+ crash, it needs logs to be collected from ADB as a system reboot will erase everything. I will ask the developer to check it out as I don't have a pixel device to test it out.
Regarding HW issue, are you playing a HEVC on MKV container..? If it's so, It's an issue which is to be solved by google. HW decoder is wrapper of Android Mediappayer API. On Nexus/Pixel devices Google doesn't implemented HEVC on mkv container. If you just remux it to mp4 (I mean without re-encoding), the video can be played in HW. So, MX Player has nothing to do with HW decoder.

Based on another report on another thread, It's basically a firmware issue & user has mentioned that leaked Nougat build has fixed the issue. Just be patient till the next system update.

HW does not read embedded subtitles.

Hello guys,
Current files used: HEVC around 2000/2500kbps + aac 128/64kbps
I'm having some issues with the HW+ mode, constant micro stutters.
With HW only, video plays perfectly fine, but it does not read the subtitles embedded with the file (MKV).
I've tried with a Galaxy S7 Edge, XPeria z5 and a Android TV box based on Amlogic S905W.
On all of them the symptoms are the same (Micro stutters using HW+ and no subtitles using HW).
PS: If I start the movie using HW+ and then change it to HW, the subtitle is present.
Thanks.

HI,
are you playing from a network location?
HW decoder basically usee mediaplayer API provided by the Android. If it doesn't detect the subtitles it may happen. When you use HW+ or SW decoder, FFmpeg is used. So, it can detect almost all formats. That's why you are getting subtitles when switching to HW from HW+.
Regarding HW+ micro stuttering,
Does it happen when you copy the file to the device storage?
Can you collect a bug report immediately after noticing the issue & share with us? We will check it out.

Just a quick update:
I tested on the S7 Edge after a reboot and it's working fine.
Also tested on another S905W based box (TX3 mini), and the HW+ micro stutters continue :/
The box tested before is a X96 mini (both of them are based on Amlogic's S905W processor/board).

Hi,
We couldn't find anything abnormal on logs.
does HW decoder work fine on both of these TV boxes? The stuttering may happen when there is a rendering delay on the device side or when there is a delay in the decoding of the frame.

No hardware decoding on H96 Max

Hi.
Recently bought H96 Max TV-Box and installed MX Player Pro on it.
But player can't play HEVC H265 videos in HW mode.
When trying to switch to HW mode it says it is not supported.
HW+ option is greyed out(not available) at all.
Currently using SW method but video playback is very bad with this method and it is impossible to watch with this method.
TV-Box based on RK3399 processor that claims full H265 hardware decoding support and I know it does because built in players can handle this file without problem with smooth playback.
How can I get smooth hardware decoding in player at this device?
hi, I'm going to receive this TV Box as well,
have you solved this problem? I'm a bit afraid of that...

Hi,
Actually, the issue is that system decoders in your device do not report that they can support HEVC 10bit profiles. So, MX Player does not try the hardware accelerated playbacks as several devices are known to crash when force decoding 10bit HEVC & H.264.
Based on some feedbacks from the users like you, we have decided to make this logic as optional. From 1.9.19, even if the device doesn't explicitly report it's capabilities, MX Player will list the HEVC 10bit & H264 10bit on HW+ Video Codecs list on Settings > Decoder. It can be enabled with a warning. Once you enable the HEVC 10bit or H.264 10bit, it will be tried in both HW & HW+.
We have already started rolling out the new version in stages. If you haven't received yet, you can manually grab the apk from our wesite & try yourself. Kindly leave a feedback after testing the same in your device.

Hi,
Actually, the issue is that system decoders in your device do not report that they can support HEVC 10bit profiles.
