Samsung Galaxy S8+ lag when playing mkv videos with H/W+ - MX Player

Hello, I'm using the latest MX Player 1.9.0 from playstore. I'm having lag issue when playing mkv videos with H/W+ with my S8+. If I use S/W then it's fine. Please help me. Thank you!

Is it happens with every file?
Can you share a sample / link to the sample with us?
Can you collect a bug report immediately after reproducing the issue in H/W+ decoder?
Does it happen with H/W decoder?

I'm using 1.8.21 now but this bug is still there. It's not very lag but is a slight lag. Only S/W works fine.
Is it happens with every file?
Seem so, I'm watching Daredevil and it is lag with every eps.

Hi,
We have improved H/W+ on 1.9.1 which you can get it from alpha channel.
If you don't to be an alpha tester, Just grab the test build from our website (https://sites.google.com/site/mxvpen/translation/test-build) & install it manually. Your feedbacks will be highly appreciable.

VC-1 files crash while seeking

I was just curious if anyone was running into this issue. For some reason, seeking any VC-1 .mkv files will crash MX Player.
My device is a Tab S. It seems to happen regardless of what decoder or codec I'm using.

There are lot of audio frame decoding error followed by libc fatal error.
Can you remux your video without audio track (you use mkvtoolnix) & check again?

It looks like a ffmpeg audio codec bug. We are currently working on internal structure renewal for MX Player 1.8.
I will send you a new test build with updated ffmpeg codecs after finishing current task. It would be possible on next week.
Thanks.

Great, thanks for taking a look at that. I look forward to the new build.
I downloaded VLC and it's able to seek without crashing, but I much prefer the minimal UI of MX Player.

[Bug Report][Resolved] HW+ stopped working in 1.7.33

HW and software does work in the last MX Player 1.7.33 but not HW+. It was working in the version before.
I lose the audio boost because this, unless I use software decoding. Using Galaxy note 10.1 2014 with Android 4.4.2 installed by Samsung. Reinstalling the codecs doesn't solve it.
Any way to solve it? If not, is there any way to get the version 1.7.32?. I payed the pro version in Google play but even the free version here is only available the version that crashes 1.7.33:
https://sites.google.com/site/mxvpen/download
I would be happy using the version with ads even I payed the pro as long it doesn't crash.
It seems to be that builds before this 33 were removed because of a license issue with ac3 which have to be removed from now on from mxplayer itself and will be just used with the custom codec.
I can send you a link to download version 32, while this version is being fixed.

Thanks. I used your file and it works again. I have not problem with my Galaxy S5, only with the Galaxy 10.1 note 2014 edition.
I hope this problem can be solved in the future or I will be stuck in that version. I can not find any other player in android remotely as good as this one.

@karlpj Would you send system log after crash using 1.7.33?
Actually not so many codes are changed for HW+ on 1.7.33. It is hard to find the reason because it is not happening on most devices.
Thanks
Included the log as an attachment. I hope this is what you was asking.
The program initially doesn't completely crash, it says: "unfortunately, MX Player Pro has stopped" and returns to the main menu of MX after a while displaying a black screen. If you try again then the program disappear of the screen and returns to the desktop.

It looks an audio problem. I have enable H/W+ video in preferences but forced SW audio and it works, obviously using software audio. If I enable H/W+ audio again it crashes.
Actually there is a mistake in beta download links.
Free version downloads the pro & pro version downloads the free... ? ? ?
Btw, if you are still in beta
Disable "H/W+ decoder"
Enable "H/W+ audio on S/W decoder"
Play the video in S/W and check whether it crashes or not.

What happenes when you directly start playing in H/W?
Does it still crashes?
H/W doesn't crash. Never has crashed in these tests. The problem is with H/W+.
The limitation that I had is that H/W doesn't allow audio boost. Obviously now I can use the workaround of using H/W for video and software for audio, but it is a workaround.
Sorry, it is my fault because I said "But it does as soon I return to H/W video and audio."
I mean "But it crashes as soon I return to H/W+ video and audio."

I have just tested myself. HW+ audio will be used with S/W only when it fails to decode. Since you were testing videos with aac/mp3 audio, it won't use H/W+ audio decoder.
That's why it hasn't crashed for you even after enabling H/W+ audio on S/W decoder.
It will crash only if you play any video with ac3 or dts audio track.
Since H/W+ audio causing issues to some specific devices, I can't reproduce it in my device.
In earlier versions H/W+ was using S/W audio. Till the issue is fixed, you can use H/W+ decoder with S/W audio. So, there won't be any difference in H/W+ decoder.
As you know the developer is already aware of this issue, hope he will fix the issue soon.
Thanks!

It seems that the hindi audio track is partially corrupted. But, the old ffmpeg used on 1.7.40 handles corrupted streams well. I have already intimated the issue to the developer. Since I was busy with my work, I couldn't read/write any replies.

Can collect the bug report & share here.
FYI, now if you disable the subtitle on one video it will be disabled on further playbacks. You have to manually select the subtitle again. Once you select the subtitle it will be enabled everytime till you disable it again.

I cannot remember what video it was, but it was an mkv, when playing a video the subtitles would show even though they were disabled, then if i enabled subtitles i would have two identical sets of subtitles, though one set was a few pixels apart from the other.

Subtitle rendering & Media Playback both are individual functions. It less likely to conflict.
Just downloaded the original video & tested myself. After test & trails I have found that "Improve SSA rendering" option in Settings > Subtitle > Text is somehow affects when using new HW+ decoder for video decoding. Report passed to the developer. Just disable it as a temporary solution till the developer fixes the issue.
Edit: Update from developer
@caspianprince
It's internally fixed & next update will fix the issue with SSA subtitle rendering issue when used with new HW+.

It's not a bug. Android 5.0+ provides a official API to use system decoders in native programming language. When a particular encoding profile is not supported you may still have issues in new HW+ as well.

HW+ Issues on MX Player 1.9.7

I'm finding the MX Player betas are really flakey right now.. The lastest one fixed seeking with the remote control (finally - was broken since the last stable) but somehow broke HW+ decoding on the Nvidia Shield TV, which has always worked flawlessly before.

It's every streamed video on the Nvidia Shield TV. I've got SMB shares mounted on the Shield and these "local" videos all works fine.
Where things are broken is with network streamed (I generally use Terrarium TV). HW+ and Software decoders both now refuse to work, only HW works after the last MX app updates and even HW crashes midstream at times complaining of not supporting the video codec (even though it's already been playing just fine).
Here's a bug report directly after starting play of a streamed file as HW, and just after I've tried to use HW+ and Software (to try and ensure it contains something useful).
