MX player Pro build 1.9.5 dropped MPEG2 support? - MX Player

mpeg2video has broken in last version of MX Player Pro 1.9.5. It reports "This video format (mpeg2video) is not supported".
MX Player Pro 1.9.5 ARMv7 Neon was installed from Google Play.

Hello,
My MX Player Pro was updated to 1.9.5 from Play Store.
Since the update, I cannot play any MPEG2 videos.
Before the update all .mpg, .ts and .REC video files worked fine.
Now I get "This video format (mpeg2video) is not supported."
(well, mine is in finnish but it translates to that)
Is this a bug or planned issue?
My player is ARMv7 NEON on Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 & Samsung Galaxy S7

Have you tried using the custom codec from the codecs thread?

No, not yet.
Actually, for years I have just been using MX Player without any problems and without knowing about any custom codecs.
All my files has been standard mpeg2, mpeg4 or h264 stuff so nothing custom about them at all.
All these including mpeg2 have been working fine for years now.
So maybe I will need to look in to those.

mpeg2video not supported
After upgrading MX Player to 1.9.6 at Samsung S5Neo the .ts files recorded at Synology from DVB-T cannot be played. It says "mpeg2video not supported". Same applies to the DVB-T live stream.

Use custom codec.
You also started a duplicate thread.

Hi,
I have just downloaded the codes suggested it the above link. The video works perfectly now. Thanks for the help and info

So is this really the way things work with MX Player Pro from now on?
I must use custom codec to watch mpeg2 decoded videos and for every new update of MX Player I will need to get new custom codec?
I updated the MX Player Pro yesterday to 1.9.8 (I think it was 1.9.5) and now the custom codec (1.9.0) that I have won’t work with it.

Goodbye MX Player
I won't be using this app anymore. I need mpeg2. Period.
No reason to have this app without it.
No time to root my android tablet or play little games with codecs.
It used to to a good job, now it is just a vegetable.
Goodbye

Even with the custom codec I am still having compatibility issues that I never had before this change with MPEG2 files - audio pauses and subsequent desync, anybody else showing similar?
Just playing DVB-T recordings.

Comparison of two H/W video players

Can anybody tell me which video player they prefer between Dice Player and MX Player? I've already purchased Dice Player and want to find out if there are any discerning differences between the two before I decide to pay for MX Video. If you've used both and prefer one over the other please let me know why you made the choice you did.
Thanks.

I've been using MX player with no issues with anything I throw at it, so it word for me, I haven't tried dice player though...
are you having any issues with dice that you are thinking MX player might not have?

I've had a number of files that will play video but not audio with MX Player....same files work fine and great in Diceplayer.
MX might say it has compatibility, but apparently not as good as diceplayer does.
But as usual, YMMV. Just what I've seen.

+1.. mainly MKVs.
DICE Player all the way for me.
Dice Player is the best for me.
Dice works best for me as well
That's exactly the answers I was looking for. Now I wont need to buy MX since I have Dice and it works great. I just wanted to make sure that MX didn't have something new to offer. Thanks guys.
Dice puts out quite a few updates, more than I've seen for MX. I'm satisfied with my dice purchase.

The real problem I've noticed is that MX Player seems to have smoother playback, but I don't know if that's because it doesn't playback the audio as well, or if it's because it (supposedly) uses both cores. My personal opinion is that it's mainly because it doesn't playback audio as well.
Either way, I still prefer Diceplayer over MX Player.

It's like $5 on the market but no worries, I like Dice Player anyways so I won't need to buy MX Player now. I finally tried an add-supported copy and I came to realize that it's no better than Dice player. All is well, thanks guys.
I've got a free MX player.. Not sure how. But anyways, I went into the options, checked "always use software decoding (Fast mode) and it works flawlessly. I was having alot of issues with the other players and mkv files quitting sound all the itme.
whats the difference between hardware and software decoding? Does it matteR?

Although S/W playback will play more media formats than H/W will, H/W uses the Tegra dual core technology to playback a higher framework video than S/W playback can. I've played both S/W and H/W formats and Honeycomb tablets can utilize and playback 720p MKV files with Full H/W acceleration while playing S/W formats cannot. Plus H/W acceleration uses less battery power for playback than S/W playback
If your looking for a guide to encode your videos in H/W format for large video sizes you can check THIS thread here.
Since you already have MX Player you should be able to utilize the same principles as you would if you used Dice Player. So you should be good to go.
If anybody feels as if I overlooked something here please feel free to jump in.
Thanks...

Update it. The Dev has updated it something like 5 or 6 times since 3.2 was released. I don't get many force closes anymore, only when I'm trying to play a high bit rate file and want to jump around alot. Has issues, but not as many as it used to, thats for sure.

Just curious, but what file type do you use and do you not use H/W encoding? Do you see no discernible difference between S/W and H/W playback?
The only work I do is convert a VOB file to an .m4v file and then transfer to my removable media. No extra work is needed. I let Dice player do all the hard work.
Thanks...

if you use Diceplayer 1.5.3 (from Market militia), It never works.
Download diceplayer from Android market.
Diceplayer is the only HW video player.
MX Player has very optimized ffmpeg codec.
But MX is not H/W video player, it is well optimized S/W video player.
MX use multi-threads , VFP3 , ARMv7 optimized codec but it is HW optimized SW codec.
Diceplayer use Tegra2's HW Video decoder engine. so Diceplayer has problems from Tegra2 HW Video decoder ( NO Weighted Predictions )
Galaxy S2 shows what is difference of HW optimized SW codec and HW video codec.
In Galaxy S2, Diceplayer can play 1080p/i with Full HW Accelerations, but no one that use SW codec(even NEON version) can handle 1080p/i.

Best player m2ts?

I have some m2ts video format and player by default does not read them.
I tried to convert them but the result is bad.
What is a good player for our TAB?
With what program and what format I could convert them to make the most with the TF700?

No need to convert. Try BS Player or MX Player.
With MXplayer the video you can see in slow motion as BS player crashes while updating the preview
i found that BS Player works best for me with better HW and SW acceleration
and bette suport for large .mkv files over local network
were as MX Player would lag and have trouble playing DTS and Dolby 5.1 sound
Which version of BSplayer uses for the TF700?

As per the Google Play info, only when it tells you to:
BS player:
This is BSPlayer lite CPU support package for <several listed on Google Play> CPU smartphones - not the main app.
You only need this if BSPlayer warns you to install it, also you must have BSPlayer lite installed first.

MX Player Custom Codec [AC3,DTS,MLP,TRUEHD, etc..]

https://github.com/USBhost/MX_FFmpeg is my modified source where i'm building from
You can download recent codecs here ( GitHub releases ) and 1.35.0-1.8.6 here ( Google Drive ).
Also the XDA download tab is no longer updated as for some reason I cant remove them.
INSTRUCTIONS
1. Check which version you need by going to Local Player Settings/Decoder/General
in the Custom Codec tab it will tell you which one is needed (x86,x86_64,neon,neon64/ARMv8).
Note: skip step 1 if your using aio (all in one) version
2. Download the one you need (No need to unzip it)
3. Go back to Local Player Settings/Decoder/General
and tap the Custom Codec tab then select the version you downloaded. DONE!
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) :
What's the difference between MX Player Codec Packs on Google Play and Custom Codec?
MX Player Codec Pack not only contains ffmpeg library, It contains many other libraries required to work properly. If you download MX Player from Google Play mostly it will contain the required libraries according to your device architecture. You have to install codec packs from Google Play only if MX Player asks to install. Custom codec is just a modified version of the ffmpeg library used in MX Player. It's modified to include support DTS/Dolby(ac3) audio tracks. So, Codec Pack is mandatory if MX Player asks to install it. Custom Codec is optional and It's required only if you want to play the videos with DTS & Dolby (AC3) audio tacks
Why Custom Codec is not updated even though MX Player is updated?
In Many occasions MX Player may updated without any changes to ffmpeg library. So, Custom Codec will also remain same. The custom codec version required will be directly forced by the player itself. So no need to worry about it. If it's not compatible MX Player will not load at all.
How do I know that my Custom Codec is outdated & needs an update?
Whenever MX Player is updated, It will check the custom codec version loaded. If it's outdated it will show a error message that shows "Custom Codec is out of date. Replace it with the new version". Otherwise there is no need to check this thread for the new Custom Codecs.

What do you meant?
Can you explain the problem you are facing....
Does not play dts audio or any video?
Have you changed the rendering to HW+ or SW not HW...?
In the latest build of MX Player there is no option in preference to enable SW audio with hw playback.
You have to enable SW audio via audio track button if you are using HW rendering instead of HW+ or SW.
I have personally tested neon build and it is working perfectly.
Even my old build also working with the current version.

When I go to the Decoder section, click on the directory with the files, then MX Player restarts... I'm getting a popup. This is with MX Player 1.7.12 on a Nexus 4 (4.2.2 stock rooted):
Popup says...
MX Player:
Unsupported device or component file corrupted. Please uninstall the application completely then reinstall it if the problem persists.
OK
When I hit the OK button, MX Player closes and when I reopen MX Player, the codec files aren't selected anymore in the Decoder section. I've uninstalled and reinstalled MX Player a few times, also tried just Force Stop ing it, and clearing its cache, but the same thing happens. This was all working perfectly on 1.7.11, so I suspect it's something with the new version of MX Player, but I don't know how to tell what it is.

In short DTS people is not ready to negotiate with SW players. So, to avoid copyright issues it's dropped from the official version.

h.264 10-bit video Support

hello,
I might buy the Galaxy S8 Plus ( Snapdragon Model ) soon but need to make sure it can play an h.264 10-bit video using hardware decoding.
name of the video: [1080p][16_REF_L5.1][FLAC_5.1]Suzumiya Haruhi no Shou****su BD OP.mkv
this is a link for the sample video:
https://www.koi-sama.net/files/hi10/
I really appreciate the help, thank you.
I tried them on my Verizon 8+ and get "unsupported video codec" using the default video player.
I have not tried d/l VLC or an alternative to see if that works, it may.
could you please check using mx player h/w+ or h/w
MX Player hw+ doesn't seem to have a problem with any of the sample video decoding, got a complaint about unsupported audio (AC3) on one of the files though.
thank you for your help, I just purchased the phone ( G955U ) and it isn't working on hw+, is there a Rom or kernel you are using?
I'm using bone-stock as provided by Verizon, with all current system updates.
Videos d/l to local SD card and played off that from within MX Player. I noticed some traffic where spawning video playback via file explorer may not work in some cases so I opened the file directly in MX.
The MX Player I used was the free edition, freshly installed.
I have since bought MX Player Pro, and of course it works on my device.
System performance settings are at the default, no tweaking so far (phone is 4 days old).
Good luck, sorry I don't have more help to offer, still new with the device.
thanks for all your help, I really appreciate it.
If you haven't installed their codec pack, get it. I think it will fix your problems: MX Player Codec (ARMv7 NEON)
hello, tried it and didnt work, it does run 4k hevc 10-bit using hw but cant run h.264 10-bit unless I use sw (works well but fast battery drain).
thank you
Runs smooth and without problems or lags with the mx Player pro with the sw decoder. The hw decoder doesn't Work.
i use hw+
along with a custom codec for ac3
Yep custom MX codec canm be found here on XDA forum - use search.
It's up to 1.9.0... Anything older will get an "update codec" message....
I tried but no luck, it works on sw only, what is your phone's model?
mine is G955U Sprint Unlocked. all other codecs work ( even hevc 10-bit 4k ) but h.264 10-bit is only working on sw.
How do you setup the custom codec for AC3 (I recognize I'm being lazy by just asking...but I have a headache...)?
For C0derbear
Put on root directory of phoner or sd card and start MX player. Go to settings, and select "custom codec at bottom of list in decoder settings. Select codec with browser it opens.
That's if it doesn't detect the custom codec and ask to use it.
It will restart to apply codec...
