Hello
I recently updated MX Player Pro to 1.8.10 and was also prompted to update the custom codec to 1.8.6 . Not the best decision i ever made as now MKV is virtually unplayable and choppy .
If i open the same files in XBMC on my MINIX Neo U1 everything plays smoothly including large MKV .
I hope this can be fixed . And as its my first post , i'd like to say hello to all of you and to thank you in advance .

Hi and thanks
I managed to get it playing OK again . I had to choose software audio and hardware decoder in settings. Now it's alright.

Basically HW & HW+ will be very smooth if it's supported by your device. SW uses CPU instead of GPU. So, it will be laggy if the processor is not powerful enough.

I personally prefer HW+.
Enable HW+ from Decoder Settings. If you are on Lollipop (5.0) or newer android version, enable Alternative HW+ as well. Most of the time, HW+ works better than anyother decoder.

Thanks both for the tips .
The only problem I sometimes have on my Minix Neo U1 is that when a video plays , unless I choose sw decoder at the top of the video screen I will occasionally get the audio playing very echoed unless sw decoder is used .
The videos play smooth with HW + but audio isn't played right .
Bh ghe wqy , The Minix is a great player and can handle files 8gb plus and also 4k easily.
So not sure why the audio likes sw decoder !
Anything i can try ?
Thanks again .

If it's so, just enable SW audio in decoder settings. It will enable SW for all videos.

Thanks,
I just had a play with the settings and it is actually software audio which causes the echo ... HW decoder all round , seems to be best for me , HW + I noticed a bit of lag .

Cant change audio track in HW mode
When playing an mkv file with two audio tracks when using HW mode
the player does not actually change audio track even though the new audio track is selected
why is this?
when using HW+ mode changing audio tracks works fine
though HW+ does have its own problems
Playback can suddenly stop at certain points of a video
(I have a mkv video that stops in the exact same place when using HW+)
Seeking does not work( ie cant jump to half way though the video)
when you enable SW for audio there are jumps in the video and the audio drops in and out
after a short while the audio stops dropping in and out and the video stops droping frames but then the video and audio are
out of sync
Hopefully these problems will be fixed soon, as aside from these issues MX Player is awesome!
happy with MX Player Pro purchase
I would like to help improve MX Player,
can we send in logs to help improve MX Player?

Can collect the bug report & share here.
FYI, now if you disable the subtitle on one video it will be disabled on further playbacks. You have to manually select the subtitle again. Once you select the subtitle it will be enabled everytime till you disable it again.

I cannot remember what video it was, but it was an mkv, when playing a video the subtitles would show even though they were disabled, then if i enabled subtitles i would have two identical sets of subtitles, though one set was a few pixels apart from the other.

Subtitle rendering & Media Playback both are individual functions. It less likely to conflict.
Just downloaded the original video & tested myself. After test & trails I have found that "Improve SSA rendering" option in Settings > Subtitle > Text is somehow affects when using new HW+ decoder for video decoding. Report passed to the developer. Just disable it as a temporary solution till the developer fixes the issue.
Edit: Update from developer
@caspianprince
It's internally fixed & next update will fix the issue with SSA subtitle rendering issue when used with new HW+.

New HW+ is available only to the devices with android 5.0+. Old HW+ method may not be compatible with old devices especially when the android media framework is modified by the OEM or by Rom developer in case of custom rom.

It's not a bug. Android 5.0+ provides a official API to use system decoders in native programming language. When a particular encoding profile is not supported you may still have issues in new HW+ as well.

It looks like a system decoder issue. If it's supported it suppose to be playable in HW decoder. When you have tried HW decoder, it hows thrown a unknown error. Does any other player works? I think that particular video will have issues with every player?

HW+ decoder basically uses the decoders available in your system. So, it may happen with all applications if there is an issue with decoder configuration in your ROM itself. As it happens with both players, probably it could be a firmware bug.
If HW decoder works, just enable SW audio. You can now raise the volume up to 200%.

Hi.
Recently bought H96 Max TV-Box and installed MX Player Pro on it.
But player can't play HEVC H265 videos in HW mode.
When trying to switch to HW mode it says it is not supported.
HW+ option is greyed out(not available) at all.
Currently using SW method but video playback is very bad with this method and it is impossible to watch with this method.
TV-Box based on RK3399 processor that claims full H265 hardware decoding support and I know it does because built in players can handle this file without problem with smooth playback.
How can I get smooth hardware decoding in player at this device?
hi, I'm going to receive this TV Box as well,
have you solved this problem? I'm a bit afraid of that...

Hi,
Actually, the issue is that system decoders in your device do not report that they can support HEVC 10bit profiles. So, MX Player does not try the hardware accelerated playbacks as several devices are known to crash when force decoding 10bit HEVC & H.264.
Based on some feedbacks from the users like you, we have decided to make this logic as optional. From 1.9.19, even if the device doesn't explicitly report it's capabilities, MX Player will list the HEVC 10bit & H264 10bit on HW+ Video Codecs list on Settings > Decoder. It can be enabled with a warning. Once you enable the HEVC 10bit or H.264 10bit, it will be tried in both HW & HW+.
We have already started rolling out the new version in stages. If you haven't received yet, you can manually grab the apk from our wesite & try yourself. Kindly leave a feedback after testing the same in your device.

hi,
I have an Minix U9-H box (android 6.0) and when I play full HD streaming files from my ip tv provider using HW+ decoder, the video quality is poor. It's working fine with HW or SW decoder (The codec used by mx player is ARM V7 NEON).
I checked also in perfect player and when using HW+, it seems the player downgrade the video resolution to SD format.
Any clue ?

It should be a bug in the system decoder. In HW+, MX Player passes the frames to the system decoders to directly decode. Probably, the resolution of the decoded frame might be low. We have encountered a similar issue in the past especially when the stream is interlaced. If it's the root cause, then it has to be fixed on the firmware. You will notice similar issues with all major video player apps which makes use of similar technology.

HW and HW+ uses GPU for H.264 decoding. They performance much better from SW which uses CPU for decoding. HW can perform better than HW+ in most of the Cases, but there is a chance it does not work smoothly on many devices.

It may happen when the Hardware Accelerated Decoders implemented on the device itself is buggy. Can you please contact us with screenshots of the playback on HW/HW+ and SW along with a bug reported collected from MX right after playing the file? It will help us to confirm the same.
There is no error, just low quality. HW and HW+ is same. SW is good.
The problem only occurs when viewing iptv (multicast - udp), watching the file on the hard disk is ok

It is one of the known issues on Xiaomi's TV boxes with Oreo and Nougat firmware. Based on our past investigation, it has been found that the hardware accelerated decoder's output resolution of the video frames is much lower than the actual frame size. As both HW and HW+ relies on the decoders shipped with the device, you can notice the issues on both. Request you to contact the device manufacturer so that they can fix the same on their firmware.
If it is possible, kindly share a link with us on PM or at [email protected] so that we can also escalate the same from our end.
I also tried on my phone (Mi Mix 2s - Android 9, MIUI 10) and it gave same results.

I don't have a non-xiaomi device. These are sample files. I saved them with VLC
http://www.mediafire.com/file/71cnwgwzsgw674b/test.ts/file
https://www.mediafire.com/file/wjhcmec367uhwxr/test1.ts/file
Let me guess a bit: The format of the service provider is 1080i, this issue relates to the deinterlacing algorithm. With HW decoder, resolution halved.
maybe recode your video?
