Google Hangouts Call Wrong Mic
I have the latest nightly of this rom, and recently tried to use data calling over google voice with google hangouts. It works fine, except it seems to be using the incorrect microphone (the top one). I'm not sure if this is an app issue, or a rom issue so I am reporting the problem both here, and to google hangouts.

I want to run the most stable version of cm. Any recommendation?

Anyone else having the stretched front facing camera issue in Snapchat again? Haven't tested the normal camera, and its too dark right now.
I remember it was worse of an issue several months ago and got fixed, but its back for me.

Honestly theres no 100% stable version of CM.
But even the nightlies do a great job of getting pretty close. I'd honestly say just do a clean install of the latest nightly and go from there. If its not stable enough, go for one of the M releases
avoid M8 (or M9?), one of those had some pretty big issues.

also having hangouts use top mic
I have the same problem as @jfarre20 and i can confirm its not an app problem. This issue has been around since i first used CM over a year now. Its also in skype and others. I hope it can be fixed soon

First things first, I want to say thanks to Invisiblek. I've been out of the root/rom loop for quite some time and have recently been getting back into it. However, I remember all of the great things that you did for the HTC Incredible. I still have that phone (I keep every phone that I've ever owned) and if I need it as a backup for any reason, it still works like a champ. I'm glad to see that you are still continuing to do great things in this community. Keep up the great work and I can't wait to see what the future holds for you and your work.
Now, for my issue. I was using Wicked Sensations and my phone was running fine. Now that Wicked Sensations isn't really being maintained anymore, I decided to move onto something else. I chose to try CyanogenMod as I remember it being the most reliable rom on the Incredible. I installed CM11 and have of course had issues with the things that everyone knows is broken, i.e. camera, etc. My biggest issue is that I have noticed that my battery life has taken a pretty big dip and my phone gets very hot at times, especially when playing games. I reinstalled Wicked Sensations and no longer had the overheating issue. I believe the battery drain may be related to the overheating. Is there anything that I can do to control this overheating issue?

I recently sold my s3 and the buyer claims to have issues with GPS. I shipped the phone running this ROM. Does this rom have any history of GPS issue?

Verizon 4.4.2 Rooted
So i realize this question has likely been answered however this thread is 400+ pages long. I am running 4.4.2 on my Verizon Samsung SG3. Locked bootloader and rooted. I am able to launch the Android Recovery KOT49H.I535VRUDNE1. I have been unsuccessful in flashing a custom recovery thus far. Will i be able to flash a custom rom using the recovery already on the phone or will i brick the device and be sent unbricking it with Odin again? I have simply had it with the performance of the stock rom and have found changing it on this phone to be challenging. In addition to all i have read on various forums about the difficulty or flat out inability to do anything with a SG3 once it has received the OTA 4.4.2 update.

Safestrap roms are not necessarily considered custom roms. They are all based off of touchwiz which to me at least isn't custom at all

You cannot run a custom recovery on the locked bootloader. I wouldn't even attempt to try it with a very good possibility of bricking the phone

While I realize safe strap is a work around I will say this. The Rom I am running now is way smoother. I am glad that I used it and my phone seems to have new life. I am limited to the one Rom available but nonetheless it is stripped of bloat, cleaner and faster. I would recommend this option to anyone wanting to speed up their $3 with a locked boatloader. Thanks again for your input.

Also I should mention I installed it on the stock Rom partition. It was an added risk versus running it on its own partition but install was successful. It is a SUPERLITEROM! V3.0 1535VRUDNE1 DEODEXED. It is simply a variant of my stock but it does truly run faster, scroll smoother etc.

So the Internet is a-buzz with Stagefright news. I presume CM11 and 12 are both vulnerable to this exploit too. (Are they?) Is there a timeline on incorporating the AOSP fixes Google pushed out to secure out devices? Thank you

It applies to all devices running 2.2 or later as far as a fix I'd keep my eyes open. There may be a carrier fix but I wouldn't take any OTA ever! With root I'm damn near certain you can block apps from having certain permissions

[Q] why root? flash?

i am new to the one s but not to flashing. i am coming from a galaxy s sprint epic. while i was on that, cm10.1 & 10.2 were great advancements to the stock gb which always seems to take forever for updates. but with this huge leap in smartphone power, do i really need to root & flash? even with all the bloatware that i don't use, the phone is very fast. and i can get two days easily from my battery (which i charge every night so that's not an issue). i used to flash just to have the latest but i think i just want functionality. also, i don't put that much on my phone so 16g should be plenty, even with all the bloatware. not that i wouldn't flash to get better use out of my device but i just don't think i need to. please convince my otherwise.
Root just to try new roms or mods that improve your experience. Otherwise no need

The stock experience is great IMO. Only point in rooting is to remove bloatware

Once youve been rooted, you cant be without root, regardless of ROM.
There are plenty of benefits in rooting even on stock roms.
Infact, a non-rooted device is like a windows PC with only access to your desktop...

explain why?
why?
i guess i wasn't clear. i know the benefits of root. i've been flashing roms on my last 3 devices. the answers i was trying get were more along the lines of what are the main changes people are making to their stock phones. does all the bloatware inhibit speed or limit space? are there roms or tweeks that people can't live without? or do people unlock, root and flash just because they like to mess with their phones/have the latest even if it doesn't work correctly?

No, it is in General--It's all good--
When I get my Note 2/3 I will probably only root for Nandroids and Titanium BackUp. I think that phone and maybe SGSIV may stand on their own without a need to flash roms. Might be wrong though-- There are still more sweets after Jelly Beans--
Your last question answered your own question. Today's smartphones don't really require root, UNLESS you like tweaking your phone.....which most of us love to do, otherwise we wouldn't be here. You can easily get rid of bloatware with a new launcher. IE: Nova or Apex are my favorites. Just disable and hide them, you'll never see them again. Back in the day people rooted mainly to get the latest OS quicker....these days the newer smartphones already come with the latest OS, so it's all a matter of whether you like tweaking your phone or not. There are still great benefits to rooting, but these days it's more personal preference over flashing the latest OS.
Just my 2 cents.

I can explain it in one word: Control.
I want to be in charge of the device, not letting the device be in charge of me. If you want that you might as well go with apple, who makes good devices with a terrible OS, imo.
Well I will root my htc one s because the latest update to 4.1 is crap. My battery drains so fast. So if I don't find a solution for this I might downgrade back to ics 4.04 or maybe a better custom rom...otherwise I would've kept the rom not rooted. Especialy because now we can disable an app that it is not usefull.

Can't comment on stock but Blackout rom has been good for me.
I root because you can never seem to turn the screen brightness down far enough without root access, that and I don't like being locked out of a file system by manufacturers who don't trust my common sense.
I flash only when a device is older and/or no longer getting updated and something like CM gives me a major improvement.
Even if you want to run a stock ROM, unlocking/rooting (and flashing a custom recovery) enables you to make and restore nandroid backups and use tools like Titanium. It's also makes it easier to repair if you ever run into trouble like boot loops.

like this rom
i like this rom only had a few problems but after a reboot seams to be working good again
I have the weirdest thing happening. I'm on stable 7 and have been for quite a while. It's worked perfectly until a couple days ago and now I can't send text messages out. I think I can receive OK. Just can't send out. I've even tried doing a clean install of this and other ROMs with same result. It gets more odd... After toying with it I can send only one text out. Just one to any person. But I can't send another unless I reboot or I think wait a few hours. Upon reboot I again can send only one text message out. And so on. I have no clue what could be happening. Any ideas?

I was able to locate the firmware and had a tough time finding the stock kernel as many links for many things are no longer good... I downloaded what I thought was the "stock kernel v2" however when I try to flash after flashing the firmware in twrp I get a failed message "unable to open zip file".. Any thoughts, thank you in adv. Have twrp 2.8.0.1 btw and flashed MF1 firmware....

Just an FYI, I tried the latest nightly and got zero GPS fix, even with a clean flash. I went back to the latest stable build (also a clean flash) and everything's cool with that, except for my inability to view pics within Gmail. :/
Portable Wi-Fi Hotspot
Hi, I just loaded up Slimkat 4.4.4 with the stock kernel on my Verizon Galaxy S3. I used to use the Wifi Tether TrevE Mod with my previous version and that worked, however, this does not appear to work in this rom. I noticed there was a built in Portable Wi-Fi hotspot, which does work perfectly. I would like to use this but am just concerned that somehow VZ would know I am tethering and I would incur additional charges. Do I have anything to worry about or am I just being paranoid?
Thank you for a GREAT product, it's a spectacular rom.

Not sure if this works in MIUI as I haven't ran this in a couple weeks. It was a nice rom though, I always did like MIUI especially the specialty MIUI built in apps..
Anyway, Device Control I'm 90 percent certain lets you adjust haptic feedback. I usually set mine to around 10 percent. The test button never works for me but when you hit okay, you can feel the difference.. There's a ton of other cool settings in there too. And it's free.
Also, if you use the KToonz Kernel, the KTweaker app also has the option somewhere in there to adjust the haptic feedback.
Hope this helps I know I may be late to the table, but maybe someone can make use of this information.

I cleared delvik, cache, factory reset thrice, flashed MIUI, then flashed gapps, then I flashed the cdma fix (I assumed that I needed it). I am unable to start a Xiomi cloud account and when I tried to flash the KT aosp 4.4.4 kernel, I got a "file corrupted" message. Is there an updated KT747 somewhere, or am I trying to install the wrong kernel or what? I would appreciate any help on the matter....BTW.....I really like the look of MIUI. I may keep it!
What Baseband to use?
I have a verizon SCH-I535 currently using VRUCML1 Baseband, running Android 4.4.4 and the phone is unlocked. Is there a newer baseband for this phone or should I continue using the currrent baseband? I haven't really found any topics that answer my question.
Thank You

Baseband/radio/modem are all the same thing pretty much. You can update the modem to NE1 without any issues. I also have a unlocked S3

Stable S6 ROM

I am new to rooting and flashing custom ROMS. I have an AT&T Galaxy S6 and I want to know what's the cleanest and most stable way I can root this device and install a custom ROM? I have been having issues since I received an over the air update from AT&T, and even when I reboot my phone to factory settings that update still gets pushed through. So my choice now is get a new phone or try a custom ROM and see if that helps.

In the S6 General section. I believe this is probably your best bet in terms of ROM's, slap Hacker Kernel on the side and enjoy many battery benefits too!
where is hacker kernel

Due respect, aren't we here to help?
Instead of saying it that way, why don't you guide him through, everyone needed help at the beginning, and you are not an exception.
I have been using the ROM someone linked above (xtrestolite 3.3.1) since I got the phone used several months ago. It's been nearly flawless, almost no lag at all, battery life much better than stock. I tried a couple other roms and had issues almost immediately so I went back to this. I'm sticking with it until after custom roms based on the nougat update come out, so several more months likely.
You can use alexis rom it's very good.with pretty handy feature s like clock position in status bar, network speed indicator, touchwiz launcher gestures etc..

Indeed, you're right in every word you said but to be honest, I was going to message him to help him but something disturbed me and I forgot about the whole case. Apparently, everyday users post something like that, asking for the "best ROM and kernel", I just got tired seeing those posts, in fact, it's the first time I reply to this kind of post. With all my respect, thanks for clarifying your point and opinion.

Roms.. seems like s7 has been lost in history

I get that we had to fight for root tooth and nail for awhile .
But can anyone explain why we have had 1 rom based off stock since root.
Surely some old devs...must own this phone what's the culprit behind the lack of care to make the phone awesome with mods and roms. Is it the lack of dev users or is it software issues can we not build them with the customer engineer bootloader they we root with is it a kernel issue or twrp issue ?
Makes no sense closing in on a year later

Simple answer is, our bootloader is locked. Not really that much you can do with it. If you look, there are quite a few ROMS for s7's that have an unlocked bootloader (Exynos).
Exactly, look at it this way... would you develop for a phone that is extremely limited and doesn't even have a custom recovery? or would you develop on a phone that a custom recovery, unlocked bootloader, no limitations and a ton of activity in the forums?

I'm trapped with this phone too and nextime I'm going to get the exynos version, never again will I waste my time with this Qualcomm ****... It's slower than the exynos on top of it.
how discouraging. im a bit behind the times. just came off of a SM-G900P ..with RRremix using Nouget.....thought this was a good step up for me just to find out that i cant root this damn thing??! major let down for sure. cant even get Substratum to work as good as it did on my s5.

This is basically the one way and the version you'll see posted here. It does make the phone a little unstable, takes a hit with battery, and changes kernel tables....takes some extra codes/apps to make it some what usable.
