I'm gauging interest for the galaxy fit .What the kernel patch will do is allow one to force AC charging for any charger that is detected as USB (e.g. many car chargers) and pull the full current the charger can support. Many car chargers in particular are incorrectly detected as USB and thus the phone automatically limits the charge rate to 500mA when they can easily put out the full 1A+ the phone can take.If you are interested let me know. I will need a couple testers. The final product will be released in the form of a kernel patch which any dev can then include in his or her kernel.
Could this be harmful for the car/phone/user?
---------- Post added at 12:02 PM ---------- Previous post was at 11:59 AM ----------
also wouldn't this mean that the phone would try and get 1A from the USB as well?

Hi guys,
I received my Nexus 5 today at work, then cycled home and took the phone with me without any accessories.
Come bed time I tried to plug in all micro-usb I had from previous phones/tablets/hdd but none of them really slips into the micro-usb slot. It appears to be bloody tight and obviously I don't want to force it. I'll try tomorrow with the original cable.
Has any of you experienced a similar problem?
Regards,
Marco

Nope - my old micro-USB cables connect fairly well. Though I did notice that older chargers charge the N5 really slow (even chargers that charged my previous Galaxy S4 quickly).
The N5's OEM charger and the S4's OEM charger can charge my phone up very quickly (about 2 hours to get fully charged from 30% or less)
Similar yes... but mine is the other way around. My N5 cable is really tight, where as all my others slide right in

I notice that too with the charging. I read everywhere on how the device charges so quickly, where as mine was taking ages. When I use the supplied kit, nice and fast

take a look at the rating on the chargers you have. I have 3-4 that are 1amp, 2 that are pathetic at 0.5amp... and the Nex5 one it 1.2amp...
When running the app wireless charging is pretty much dead. It stays on specified percentage for hours, even though wireless charger shows it's working. When uninstalled, all's back to normal.
I do not have this issue. I use it with like 7 extensions. Also charge wirelessly with no issues. Try plugging your wireless charger into A/C (wall) not USB (computer, etc.). Also use the cable that came with the nexus. If you're using a longer cable that could also be why. I literally only wirelessly charge. I think I may have plugged my phone in only once for fastboot OEM unlock lol.
---------- Post added at 03:20 AM ---------- Previous post was at 03:18 AM ----------
Also how many extensions are you running? Which extensions? How often are they set to automatically update? More info would really help if you're actually looking for serious support lol.
I don't have this issue either. I run 6 extensions

Hello All,
So for my Nexus 6 I had a couple of wireless docks for my desk at work and home. I'd like to have something similar for my (yet to be ordered) Pixel XL.
The only one I have come across is:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01LXS38S...=UTF8&colid=Z8TYV982LQKD&coliid=IC3LSX391RO6B
Does anyone have any experience with this one?
Thanks,

That looks exactly like the one that Benson Leung recommends and has tested to comply and has a 56k ohm resistor for safe charging

This one has a Type C connector for power, so it should support a compliant fast charger

Nice inexpensive cradle, use your own type c cable / fast charger.

I ordered two of these on eBay a couple weeks ago - they're far-and-away the nicest looking options. I'm hoping they actually support fast-charging, though.

I have one and it doesn't support fast charging and the USB C plug is VERY tight. It's hard to get the phone on and off. It was the same with my 6P.
I know this one doesnt have built in charging, but allows you to use your own cable and supports the phone in either direction very well.. I use it on my nightstand. I know its a stand and not a dock, but worth looking into imo

That one crap. I ordered 2 and only got one. It also does not fast charge. Most of the time it shows slow charging. It's a PITA to put the phone on. I finally got the company to send me the one they shorted me then sent both back. We need a stand capable or rapid charging.
Looks like there isn't a QC-PD dock/stand?
All of the reviews for the ones listed in this thread are all pretty bad.
The first one listed is no longer on Amazon.
Still not a fan of no wireless charging...

There are a few you can use a as a cradle while the phone is plugged into a USB TYpe-C charger. Or others that are usb-c but max 2.4A, which is 12W, considered "rapid" charging, if not max.

Why not just use a magnetic desk mount. I've used it for multiple devices

I've been searching for a good desktop charging dock for my Pixel XL and have come up with all the terrible-reviewed docks listed in this thread. Is there still no good, viable option for a dock (not just a cradle, but a dock) that utilizes USB-C PD?
---------- Post added at 03:52 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:50 PM ----------
I get it that cradles would ultimately provide the same result, but if I'm plugging in my own cord then I can just lay the phone on my desk. I'm looking for something nice and elegant for displaying the phone screen while charging on my desk, that I can just place the phone down on it and it's good to go.

I understand the appeal, but I wouldn't recommend it. I made my own makeshift desk dock for my Nexus 6P, and the combination of continuous fast charging and overcharging has degraded my phone's battery substantially. I would recommend just using a cradle, and topping off your phone's battery when it dips below 40%.

I thought these phones software made it impossible to continuously fast or overcharge now? With the Pixel, that's how it was explained in one article I read, how it's able to charge so fast without excessive heat - it fast charges to a certain point, then trickle charges, then when the phone hits 100% it stops charging altogether.
I'll have to see if I can find that article somewhere... I think the topic was why you could just plug it in each night next to your nightstand and be okay with it.

Yes. I bought 2 and sent both back. They do not support rapid charging and only slow charged for me...back they went.
I gave up. I made one out of Lego

^^ HAHA. That's awesome!
Because the Pixel doesn't have wireless charging. Also Qi charging is slow as heck.
I was about to buy a OnePlus6 and then I realised they use a different charging system to qualcomm so my battery pack is unlikely to work properly.
I play a mobile game quite a lot (Pokemon Go) so being able to charge my phone on the go is essential, any suggestions? Thanks in advance. :good:
any battery pack with PD is compatible with OP6
i use Cygnett TYPE-C 20,000 MAH battery pack for my 5T and use PD and it outputs 45w
Tronsmart 20000mAh QC 3.0 Portable Charger with 6A Output,USB Type C External Battery for Samsung Galaxy S8 S8+/Nexus 6p/ Huawei Mate 9/Pixel 2/2 XL
That's one of the two I have. Works great, has to USB ports. The green port charges pretty fast. Search that and you'll find it.
Thanks guys.
Edit: The Tronsmart isn't for sale anymore sadly and the Cygnett is about 4x the price of other battery packs.

Oneplusb6 dont support PD. None of oneplus phones support it.
---------- Post added at 07:00 PM ---------- Previous post was at 06:57 PM ----------
But for OP, you can use almost any powerbank. Only the output speed is difference. There isnt any powerbank which support dash charge so you wont get "fast charge" speeds. But you can get regular 2.4A speed. So no fast charge but yes regular charge.

oh didnt know
but it can still pull 3A from it
I'm using the same that I used with my Xperia Z3 and with my Oneplus 3 too... Anker Powercore 20100mAh
I have bought this Dash Charge powerbank back when I had my oneplus 3t and it works fine one my oneplus 6 too !
Link: https://www.amazon.com/Sdoutech-10000-Portable-Charge-Oneplus/dp/B078K8TZQ1
This powerbank supports Oppo's VOOC charging which is basically the same as DashCharge and I am happy with it!
Downsides: you can't Dash charge the powerbank and you need to use the original OnePlus red charging cable to get Dash Charge working.
For users that can get that item shipped to their country like me (Germany) I contacted the seller by email and he shipped me one by Paypal Invoice; his email is [email protected] .
