"This is a lost phone" message intermittently - ONE Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My Oneplus gets "This is a lost phone" message intermittently every day with my loud ringtone. It stops when I press the okay button. This is despite me having it in silent mode.
Since this happens only during my office hours, where I have to leave my phone silent always, I am unable to investigate it rather than just press the OK button and it disappears.
I have my device manager activated in the phone. Thought it was previously my Theftie app which was activated, which I deactivated but the message keeps coming on every day.
Any way how to stop this?

just to rule out, can you remove both and see if you still get the message ? or have you already tried that ?

next time as soon as the incident happens , can you check which wakelock was running ? Use wakelock detector app from google play.
It would be interesting which application is invoking this event !!

I did download wakelock detector but it says it needs root access since KitKat upgrade. Maybe will root it when time permits.
Meanwhile had another instance of the event, when I received a text from an number not in the Contacts. If I remember correctly, it happened yesterday as well when I received a text from a number not in Contacts list.
Really annoying that it happened during a meeting.

Got it in US, but I have now moved back to UK though.
Still have the same problem, but have figured out that it happens when I receive a text from a number not on my contacts list. Have not had a chance to root it though

Make a Backup and do a factory reset.

Just throwing out ideas here, are your Locations turned on ? Maybe since it came from the US and you moved to the UK it "sees" that you are not in the US anymore and that is why it is doing this ?

I do have the Location turned on most of the time. Even when I got it in US from oneplus directly, I have used my same UK sim there as well on roaming.
I have done a backup and reset and it sill happens!

Block the text number and uncheck the settings in device manager and change your gmail password. If it still works after a factory reset and make sure you do not restore your software. It sounds like what I do to my son when he does not pick up the phone I make it ring and I do it through device manager because I have his info...

Did you initially bought it from OnePlus, or did you buy it from another user?

How many text numbers can I block? SInce I am in sales, I get many calls and texts from numbers not in my contact list.
I have unchecked the settings in the device manager and deactivated it. Changed the gmail password a week ago as well, and the problem persists

Yes, done all that is possible. Only thing remaining is rooting the phone (i dont want to unlock the bootloader for that thought)

You could try doing a Backup und then a factory reset.
Not sure if you already got a custom recovery

Quit sure you can block quite a few... If all of what we have suggested still does not work may I suggest you selling your phone and buying another one. Hey try putting sim card in another phone and see if that phone has the same result

[Q] [JB#2]Overclock and phone number recognition problems

I recently flashed JB to my atrix 2 and i have the following problems :
1. Whenever I receive a text message, the app adds a prefix to the number (+40 in my case) and it won't recognize the person's name because they appear in my contact list without the +40 in front. How can I stop it from adding that to the number?
2. I tried overclocking using this method, but it won't do anything. I have a 1.0 GHz device (sadly) and i tried both 1.1 and 1.2, but they don't do anything. Does anyone have any idea what could be the problem?
I also have a problem with the GPS, but I don't think there is a solution to this one, as i noticed that i'm not the only one.

Just did that. No difference. I'm starting to think that my only chance is to modify all the contacts to that phone number format I also tried with other messaging apps, but still no difference. This is frustrating.

Ok, I mightve found a solution to your problem..
Select Assisted Dialing in Phonebook/Settings/Assited Dialing and then Select your country code, this will automatically add the country code to all numbers (i think) and sort your problem.. Hope this works :good:

Do you have contacts database on your SIM Card?
-- If the answer is: yes - you sync these contacts with your google acount, and then erase the sim contacts, reboot, set your gogle account as defoult in People --> Menu --> Contacts to display. It's work for me.

Stolen S7 with no passcode lock - anything preventing the thief from using it ?

Hello,
A friend of mine had his Galaxy S7 stolen. The phone had no passcode or fingerprint set up, but it did have a Google account and a Samsung account set up.
While initially the phone did appear in the "find my phone" section of the Samsung account, now the Samsung account reports that no phone is registered. The phone could never be located after it was stolen, either via the Samsung service or Google service. Lock requests have been issued on both accounts, but I kind of doubt that they will have any effect ?
My question is: is there anything preventing the thief to use the phone ? Anything preventing the thief to reset it/reflash it and use it like it was a new phone ?
I did read that on iPhones, you cannot reset it/reflash it without entering the iCloud password, is some similar protection available for the S7 also ?
Thanks !
Did you try google's device manager to wipe the device

I think you can say goodbye to any stolen anything. It's rare to get anything back and even more rare to get something back in any kind of condition that you would actually still want it.
Anyway can't somebody who knows start a wiped/locked phone in recovery and reflash and fix it?
Call your phone service and block the phone IMEI, this will put it on a black list and never work as a cellphone again.

He's going to need some paperwork to prove he owned it. And also if he blocks it and does get it back it won't be useful.
About the only thing you can do is lock your own phone so if somebody does steal it at least they don't get all your personal data with it.
The chance for him to get his phone back is minimal since he didn't use any basic security from the beginning.

I restored my phone using Mobile Upgrade Q, but now I'm locked out

After doing a full reset on my phone using Mobile Upgrade Q (which successfully removed CM and TWRP from my phone) I get an error message when trying to set up Android saying "sign in with a google account that was previously synced on this device." I've only ever used one google account with this device, so I'm not sure what the problem is.

Its factory reset protection, you have to log in with the google account associated with the phone prior to reset.... To avoid this in future or if you sell phone just remove your Google account in settings... accounts before factory reset... It's the equivalent of iCloud locking on Apple, designed to cut down on theft.... If you cant remember the password you can go to the Google account recovery page for assistance
https://accounts.google.com/signin/recovery
I don't understand. I WAS logged into the account prior to the reset, on CM. It's the only account I've ever used on this phone, and I haven't changed the password.
How do I unlock it? Is it even possible, or does it think I stole the phone?
Is it possible to reinstall TWRP and CM now? Just to have a useable phone?

Here is a writeup on how and why frp works like it does....
http://www.pcnexus.net/2015/12/what...gle-72-hour-lockout-android-lollipop.html?m=1
There are some hacks around it, but I have never tried them, best method to avoid frp headaches is to simply remove your Google acct prior to any reset
Is there anything special I have to do to login in 24 hours? Is it 24 hours from the first time I reset or the last time I reset (I wiped it a few times trying to get in)?

Thank you for the link. Just to be clear, in case future people ever find this thread: during the 24 hour lock out, you cannot unlock the phone, EVEN WITH THE CORRECT ACCOUNT NAME AND PASSWORD. Oddly enough, the device can still receive phone calls, and displays the caller's contact name. So it's definitely logged into my account, it's just locked out of doing anything except receiving calls. Also, I can hear that the phone is receiving text messages, though I have no way to read or reply to them.
Once I unlock it, I will update this thread with how and what it looks like, again, just in case someone finds this thread in the future, because this information is hard to find.

This happened to me yesterday so I hope it works for me as well.
You know what, I just happened to be looking for the official Alcatel factory flash tool and came across this post because after a few factory resets I was able to get the phone to boot up......BUT, as described above, the phone will only accept the PREVIOUS password which I forgot.... I simply requested a new password be created and it doesn't unlock the phone.
So now I too must wait 24, wow.
This is BS.. I mean, yeah I factory reset the phone because after my son accepted a system update, his phone kept bootlooping and his battery doesn't want to accept a charge now (so it seems per the display).....but what if I want to sell my phone? We have to remove the gmail account prior??????? Wow way to go Alcatel. And if this is actually an Android feature, it sucks.
Now, can anyone direct me to the actual official Alcatel upgrade tool????? I want to just flash this stock unrooted phone to out of box condition so we can trade his phone in. The Alcatel website no longer offers it from what I can see. Thanks!

It's an android security feature introduced in 5.1 LP, it only triggers the wait if you reset any way other than from settings. It's similiar to an iCloud lock, so yes if you sell phone remove google account, or if your buying a used phone make sure the google account is removed prior to reset, or boot up phone and make sure you can get passed the lockout before buying it!!

Annoying "no location" popup on boot

Hello everyone.
I decided to post this question here instead of my specific device's forum because I believe it is an issue of android itself, not my phone.
Since a couple of days ago, there is an annoying popup that appears on every boot, right after I unlock for the first time. The message reads:
No location access
Device location for all apps is
turned off, and you might not be
able to locate your device if it's
lost.
Yes, I'm aware of that, since I keep my location off for privacy and battery concerns, and that popup annoys me because it's an extra step for me to take. I suspect it's generated by Google Play Services, but I can't be sure.
Has anyone else seen it? Any ideas to disable it?

Thank you very much for your confirmation.
Do you remember by any chance which services did you disable to get rid of the popup? I'm betting doing that will screw up google maps and possibly some other gapps, but I'm willing to do it because that popup is sooo annoying.
Thanks.

Disabling them will cripple the device's location services. Though you'll probably still be able to get your location info by using the GPS only.
Here are the services I disabled
com.google.android.gms/com.google.android.gms.locationsharing.service.LocationSharingSettingInjectorService
com.google.android.gms/com.google.android.gms.nearby.connection.service.NearbyConnectionsAsyncService
com.google.android.gms/com.google.android.gms.clearcut.service.ClearcutLoggerService
com.google.android.gms/com.google.android.gms.clearcut.service.PlayLogBrokerService
com.google.android.gms/com.google.android.gms.common.stats.GmsCoreStatsService
com.google.android.gms/com.google.android.location.fused.FusedLocationService
com.google.android.gms/com.google.android.location.internal.PendingIntentCallbackService
com.google.android.gms/com.google.android.location.geocode.GeocodeService
com.google.android.gms/com.google.android.location.network.NetworkLocationService
com.google.android.gms/com.google.android.location.internal.GoogleLocationManagerService
com.google.android.gms/com.google.android.location.geofencer.service.GeofenceProviderService
com.google.android.gms/com.google.android.location.internal.server.GoogleLocationService
com.google.android.gms/com.google.android.location.reporting.service.LocationHistoryInjectorService
com.google.android.gms/com.google.android.location.reporting.service.DispatchingService
com.google.android.gms/com.google.android.gms.mdm.services.NetworkQualityAndroidService
Finding them all might be a bit tedious so here's a backup you can restore using DisableService from the Playstore
Woah, that's mighty cool of you. Thanks! I appreciate it.

Using backup. I double-checked and they are disabled
On my Note 4 I noticed an auto update a few days ago which I couldn't stop.
Today, my Skype auto logged out and when I tried to log in I couldn't. I entered my password 4 times and I couldn't log in. I tried login into my PC and it was fine so it wasn't a problem with my password.
So I restarted my note 4 and got this "No location access" pop-up. However I was able to login to Skype.
Are these two things connected? It seems weird. And the pop-up is blatantly scaremongering saying if location is disabled the phone cannot be tracked if it's lost.. yeah Google, on yer bike.

Okay. Try restoring this backup instead. I'm 100% sure it'll work because thats my current config and I'm pop up free. It seems to have broken the smart lock feature though. But if you don't mind/use that then you should be fine.

I really don't know. Maybe it was just a minor glitch/bug in the app. It does seem weird though. But if you're interested in getting rid of the pop up then check the post above.
I just disabled preference service. And the popup is gone.

Okay. Try restoring this backup instead. I'm 100% sure it'll work because thats my current config and I'm pop up free. It seems to have broken the smart lock feature though. But if you don't mind/use that then you should be fine.
Your backup also not working, annoying popup still come back on boot
I really don't know. Maybe it was just a minor glitch/bug in the app. It does seem weird though. But if you're interested in getting rid of the pop up then check the post above.

Running the following on boot works for me too. Any idea what else it disables?
Code:
pm disable com.google.android.gms/com.google.android.location.util.PreferenceService;

SM-R765A - Problem after Tizen 3 update

Hi,
After the upgrade, I'm simply unable to Install any app/watchface directly from the watch.
When I press the install button, a message comes up saying "Verify your identity to activate your Samsung account. This is required to continue using this service and other features."
Point is that I see no way on how to activate it. To me is all activated... so no Idea on what they want me to do.
Please help.
Tks
This is good news that the lte versions are starting to get the update. You should be able to log into your samsung account from the phone and log out and then in again...you can also use the samsung members app or the "Contact Us" in the Gear App and send the question into Samsung and you may get a reply...

Another bug. I have credit card (black)when i win Samsung Rewards . When add this card , app Samsung Pay is closed.

Tried the log in/out. Nothing.
Changed the phone and reset gear. Nothing.
No one else with this problem?
Really no one with ATT version had the same problem?

Same problem here. No solution yet. I've already done factory resets, but no changes.

Hi Andre... I sorted it out today.. it was a lucky move.
As you have notice, from time to time you receive a message at your watch saying that policy blablabla was updated andyou must go into a certain link and when you access it, there's no accept option.
Here's what you have to do:
1) Access the following link: findmymobile.samsung.com using same account you have logged at your gear app.
2) There will pop the option for you to accept the new terms blablabla. When you press AGREE you will be logged off.
3) Logging to the same link.
4) Reboot your watch and VOILA.
No more annoying messages and you can install stuffs directly from your watch.
Let me know if this works for you too.
All this talk about installing stuff on the watch. I use mine in a minimalist way - phone, text, email, tracking a walk or run, and weather. That's it. If I need more I go to my phone. But to each their own.

Sure... but having annoying messages in the watch from time to time is a pain in the a$$.
Also, its like the watch wasn't acting normal... for me all good now.

Oh I completely agree with you on that! The comment was extraneous. I had some UI notifications when I first got the update but after afew resets they went away. These watches seem to operate more on emotion than logic sometimes.

after 1 year this worked. Thank you so much. (I used Microsoft Edge without adblock to get to the terms page)
