Disable Magnet Lock? - ONE Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I just got my OPO today. One thing I noticed is that if I lay down my phone on my nexus 7 case, the magnets in it turn off my screen. Is there any way to disable this?

Don't lay it down on your Nexus case maybe?
Transmitted via Bacon

Yeah that's fine but what about other magnets. I have no use for the magnet lock so I would find it better to just disable it.

http://repo.xposed.info/module/com.dubi.xposed.magnetoff
This should work. I didn't know that this feature is supported on the OPO. You need root for xposed

I'm not even sure there's a magnet lock on the OPO, it's the first time I hear about that
I tried to move a magnet around my phone, but it never locked
Are you sure it's not the proximity sensor which locked the phone ?

The N7 was underneath the OPO so no it wasn't the proximity sensor.

Hmm. I guess I'll try that. I usually use ART but haven't really felt the need since this phone is so fast already. Thanks.

Try a rare-earth (Neodymium) magnet, it needs a strong magnetic field to trigger which won't always work with your average fridge magnet. The receiver is located on the right side of the screen in the bottom third.

I'm quite surprise no one ever talked about it

The feature is listed on the product page for OnePlus' own flipcover, see "Automatic unlock"

Just an update. The xposed module seems to work. Didn't turn off like it did yesterday. I do wish it was an option in the ROM. I know some nexus 7 ROMs had the option. Or at least you could set it through a script.

Turning the screen off using a magnet requires Hall sensor and apparently OPO has one

[Q] WTF? Access to the notification tray while screen locked?

Who was the wise guy who thought that the notification tray didn't need to be locked with the rest of the screen?
After the ICS update, it seems that my notification tray is sometimes open when I pull the phone out of my pants' pocket. Since this isn't just a notification tray anymore and one can actually do sensitive actions over there, not to mention accidentally closing important notifications, I would say this is a very bad idea. I couldn't find any option to turn this "feature" off.

Well you should not have upgrades to ICS then or done the proper research into what was in ICS cause that is part of the 4.0 Android OS now. Me personally I love it.
So, you are saying there is no way to turn this off? It seems very strange to not have an option for this..

If you enable a screen lock then it will disable that function. Otherwise, it's actually a nice feature to have IMO.

No, not once. It's in my pocket all day and I have a very active job...
OK, so I set up a pattern now and the issue is solved. But now I have 2 lockscreens instead of 1 :-( . Wasn't there supposed to be an option to unlock the screen straight to desktop (pattern in my case)?

Nope. You don't have two lockscreens, you have a lockscreen and a security screen. It's performing normally.
I know there is nothing actually wrong with this, but it just makes the phone harder to use. I mean slower to make a quick phone call, or quickly open an IM app and reply.
usually..
usually you can disable it, if you have the development function on your htc settings for ics, usually there is a function in the lockscreen part where it asks you to keep taskbar on top or untouchable after lockscreen is on.. try to look on accessibility and security or else download 'rom toolbox' and there should be a function where it allows u to enable or disable this function

Um... besides, you can't "do" anything with it unless you touch the screen. Are you touching the screen while the phone is in your pocket?
yrs,
dkephart
I keep my phone with the screen facing my leg and when there's moisture in my pocket, like in the summer for instance, I'm pretty sure things are happening that aren't supposed to happen
Also, the power button is somehow positioned that sitting down in the car for example accidentally pushes on it.
You could argue that only tight pants cause this issue, but c'moon

Buy an Incipio NGP case, which has a reinforced power button cover.
Never again will you have accidental power-button presses.
It's silly that you want to get rid of such a great feature. My phone always faces my leg in my pocket, and in the 10 months that I've owned my phone, I have NEVER pulled my phone out with the phone unlocked by my pocket.
Thinking more and more about it, it does seem to be a nice feature. I might give it a second chance, despite that only having it for 1 day and already found it open by mistake....

I've thought about that but the shape doesn't help at all... Also, the power button would be even more prone to accidental press.

So out of curiosity. First things first
Do u have a case on it and tried with it off?
Do you have a case with a plastic screen protec and or a temp glass. Try removing those some thicker temp glass interferes with operation.
Third. Have u dropped your device?
4th. Are you rooted and made any mods to the system. If no to the cases and glasses and yes to rooting. Try reflashing stock firmware. And then try.
If not rooted and or dropped. Sounds like internal malfuntion. Nothing here will fix that.
U might try looking for a touch sensativity or accsesibility setting or something allong those lines.
What firmware custom roms anything like that?

Well i do have a case, i removed it to check but it still didn't work. I reverted back to stock unrooted. I did drop it and cracked the glass. I had the glass replaced but i didnt noticed the fault until recently. My theory is that as it fell, the connectors on the digitizer came loose.

That is a possibility. I did some work on mine and didnt get the usb home and touch buttons plugged in all the way. The light doesnt work on my recents key and randomly went nuts til i checked it and it was barely plugged in. Just enough to work.

Then ill have the phone checked out. I really dont believe the digitizer is damaged. The fact that only 2 fingers register may really be because of the connector. Thanks for the help

Mate 9 Calibration

Has an had any issues with screen calibration? Sometimes when I click on the screen it presses to the left of it. When I'm in the recents screen for my apps, it sometimes swipes away instead of selecting it, and I'm unable to consistently unlock the phone while it is charging. (Works like once in every 5 times) however, I'm on sure if that one is related.
Anyone have any ideas?
Which firmware are you on? I remember older firmwares were having a bit of a touch sensitivity isues.

I'm on MHA-L29C567B183. US version of the phone. Stock
Did you install a screen protector? Could be the reason for sensitivity issues. If not, I don't know. Maybe a factory reset Will help?

I removed the screen protector when I purchased it. I could do a factoru reset and see how it goes. Hopefully it's software related and not hardware related.
I do hope so as well then. I do have to say that the factory installed screen protector doesn't do this screen justice.

I thought it was for protecting it in the box?
Mine had a lot of air bubbles in it so removed it right away.
My charger still has the plastic on it though xD

Lol, no, this phone comes with a screen protector pre installed .
The touch sensitity is definitely off a little. I have to swipe the notification bar sometimes twice for it to come down. I also get some missed taps but it's infrequent enough that it isn't a problem for me. I heard they started fixing touch latency and optimization in 5.1. Don't know if we will ever see it.
If you are not using the stock charger weird things can happen.
Alrighty update: Factory settings still yields the same results. It's not frequent enough to make me go crazy, but it's still roughly the same. I guess my real pet peeve is when I need to go to the app manager to return to an open app and it just closes out. I've lost a lot of information that way like recipes when cooking and etc.
What I really don't understand is the fingerprint sensor not working while it's charging. It doesn't matter what charger I use. It just doesn't respond most of the time (Sometimes it unlocks like it's suppose to)
Im using Quick Charger from SS and I have this problem too. It's nice to know this is a common issue, not only me. I dont have any issues with fingerprint when charging, just notice when the battery between 5-60% it's insensitive for me (maybe quick charge is working strongly in this range), "insensitive" here means when you press and hold any things on the screen, it'll "tap" it and open it instead, all pressing or sliding or zooming actions are normal, just dragging has issue. When the battery is 70% and above, it becomes normal and no more insensitive touch. Just that so I think I can bear this thing.

Audible sound from camera module when locking and unlocking the device, anyone else?

The camera doesnt move but I can feel mechanical movement when I open and lock the phone. Anyone else experiencing this?
No sound or movement here when unlocking.
Do you have face unlock enabled somewhere? It might be preparing the camera to move for face unlock or something like that.

No I don't have it enabled and never have, there isnt any abnormal apps with access to the camera either..
Maybe the mechanism locks down a little tighter when the screen is locked seeing that it will not be used while the screen is off? Then, when you unlock the phone and the screen is turned on the mechanism gets ready for any movement that is needed by the end user?
I cannot wait until far more people have this in hand so that all these various questions can be addressed.

I actually tested this and think it might be correct. I forcefully flipped the camera up a bit when the phone was off, if you try to put it back into place the camera module will be in a pretty "loose" position. When locking/unlocking the phone it goes back to the firm "locked" position.

Yes, I think so too
When locking screen I can hear the motor giving one faint "click" as if it is "locking" in place. Seeing as it is a free-angle motor I guess they need to "lock it" somehow , as Ive actually tried holding it by the camera module and "flipping the phone" around - which actually works.. although not sure if that's recommended to do
Hi, i experience the same thing: there is a faint noise when locking and unlocking the phone screen. I guess this is normal, i have to put my ear near it to hear it.
When i received and unboxed it, the camera was loose. It was flipping freely. It was only when i did the setup it locked into place.
yes, i have a quietly sound, too. seems to be normal.

I think It's a new function from the last update to ensure the camera is closed(locked) when you shut your phone after using the camera

Camera not rotating view and motor stuck half way

Hi there!
Since ASUS isn't responding to my question, I might as well try here.
My brand new ZS630KL which I've had for almost a week now acted strange at some time during the first 24 hours of use.
When I try the ASUS camera app, loading the camera takes way longer than it did the first few hours, and when changing from back mode to front mode, I see myself up side down. Also there's a message on the bottom of the screen telling me the camera can't turn (flip) the image.
The camera module doesn't return to normal position if I try to drop the phone controlled (like you see every other tester on YouTube does it), but it did so the first few hours.
If I try to go back from front view to back view again in the app the camera stops mid-way, just below 90 degrees, and if I exit the camera app from there, the module tries to move back to normal position, but tries to go further than it should and you can hear the screams from the gears as they skip and skip and skip...
I do think this has to do with the gyroscope in either the phone or the one in the camera module itself, and have asked ASUS if there is some way to check if the gyroscopes are working or atleast try to re-push the firmware onto the camera module.
Using other camera apps like Snapchat or Facebooks camera functions work like it should, even though they all show the same system message telling the image can't be turned, their software flips it either way, and also their preview from the camera opens instantly like it should.
Anyone that has any idea what this could be are more than welcome to reply. Using it as my phone at work, so resetting the phone is an option if that could recalibrate the sensors, but I see that as a last resort kind of thing since the phone is brand spanking new.
Thank you.
Ouch.... does not sound good at all! I would return it as fast as I could and either risk getting a NEW replacement, or get my money back.
seems faulty piece, return it
Thank you both for your reply. I've contacted the webstore where I bought it and explained it to them.
Thing is that they've out of stock and doesn't get new shipment until 17th of July, so I have to wait a while either way. Sending it in for repair is out of the picture since it started acting like this shortly after first usage.
Ideally I would like a new unit, transfer everything from this phone to the new and then return the first phone. Transferring data from one phone to anther and then back to a new ZF6 again seems like such a hassle.
I understand your hesitation, but in case you are in Europe, I truly suggest that you send in the phone now before the shop gives you some trouble. You will have 14 days to return it without giving reasons.

Sure, I do get that. I'll see what the store says. They have to replace it anyhow, so question is how if they are out of stock.. ?
I'm experiencing the exact same behaviour with the flip camera as described in OP.

I got it replaced. When ever this happens on the replacement it always works to just tap the flip button twice like Asus intended. Normally it's just the software that gets confused, especially when you switch from the stock camera and 3rd party apps it seems. But I can live with that.
The problem like I had on my first device was that the normal "fix" never worked.
Then I'm afraid I should need a replacement too, because tapping the flip button does not work for me at all.
Get your money back and stay away from this piece of ****!
I have never seen a phone with so many problems before people can even really get it in their hands.
It's up to you.
Issue caused by cover case
Turns out my third party cover case is blocking the proximity sensor, causing the retraction of the camera to malfunction.
https://zentalk.asus.com/en/discuss...-message-is-shown-camera-cannot-flip-pls-help
Several cases concerning this have been resolved due to the root cause being that a cover used was covering the proximity sensor located in the front. Even a slight cover of that sensor may cause this - as it is intentional design that when the proximity is being covered the camera should stop its rotation.
