[Q] Can I Get Kids Mode on N8010? - Galaxy Note 10.1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've been looking around the forum and can't see this mentioned, as well as a google search.
I'm wondering if it's possible to get Kids Mode from the S5 and Note 3 over to the n8010?

I think it will be quite possible. I have pulled Kids mode from Tab S but have not had a chance to look at it yet.

what ROM?
JB or KK?
JB doesn't have Kids Mode, but it has partial multiple user capability.
KK has Kid Mode / Guest Mode

I have a 4, 5, and 7 year old with rooted devices. My two youngest have N8013 tabs. I rooted them and installed a stock rom since I have been unable to locate a working download for CM10.1 for this device and needed Android v.4.1.x to swap the microSD with the internal storage and turn the tablets internal recognized storage to 64gb... or even 128gb with the new SanDisk card that came out. I use a free app locker from Play Store which locks apps you select with a passcode or pattern code. It works perfectly for redirects in games and in-app purchases as well. You will need to set SuperSU up to grant root privileges to needed apps as default. I use the pay version of chainfire's SuperSU, so it's easy to do with any ROM. The app is 'Applock' and its a nice GUI and super simple to use. I've set their devices like this since my oldest was 3 and got her first tablet... never a single issue Good Luck! :fingers-crossed:

Rooted ROM yields "S Note has stopped working"

After installing the N8000XXALGA_N8000OXXALG5_PHE_RootGalaxyNote.com via Odin, the message "Unfortunately, S Note has stopped working" pops up every 5-9 seconds.
How do I resolve this situation?
Losing S-Note is not to be considered a preferable option.
The tablet is currently not really usable, as S-Note appears to be relaunching and crashing, so I can get one click, touch, or gesture between notices.
I wanted root access to avail myself of the market enabler, so I downloaded the pre-rooted ROM that's supposed to be reliable and stable, and it's supposed to keeps things stock, except for the fact that the tablet would then be rooted.
But now, I get an error message every 5 seconds telling me that S Note stopped working.
I can now get one click in, in between notices. What's worse, I can't temporarily stop S Note, to at least disable the warning, and let me try to do something.
I can't use my tablet, at all. And I haven't any other ROMs handy (except for the Jelly Bean leak).
But all I wanted was STOCK rooted... Not headache.
All I want is to use market enabler so I can download geometriq. Is that too much to ask for?!?!?
In my despair, I went into recovery mode and hit the factory reset button. I restarted my tablet as if brand new, all my files gone, my settings rearranged to default, everything... I would have backed up, but without root, I couldn't get Titanium Backup installed, previously. Now, even the demo stuff that comes with SNote is missing. Although, everything seems to be working, now.

You don't need root for that. Isn't market enabler an app for devices which don't have install unknown sources in settings? I had that app on my old phone. Note has the option built in. Note 10.1 settings, in security, has option to check unknown sources. Which allows you to install apps from other sources and not just marketplace. Works well for me as ive installed tons of apps that way and wasn't from marketplace.
If that's not what you mean then my bust

What you're referring to I think is the allowing of unknown sources. That's a little different from what I'm trying to do.
On a slightly different but still relevant note -no pun intended... Can I re-install S Note; if so, how?
Re-install your stock rom using ODIN... This will give back all stock apps...
Then go here - http://rootgalaxynote.com/galaxy-no...t-galaxy-note-10-1-easiest-methodcwmmethod-2/ and follow the instructions... This will give root access to your stock rom (n8000) and you don't have another countries CSC...

Thanks for the reply.
But, that's exactly what I had done.
However, you know that initial collection of notes that are included, in a stock ROM?
My S Note is still missing that.
When I launch my S Note, it's barren
-not a single solitary note.
That's why I wasn't sure if reinstalling the ROM installed a brand new S Note, or what.
And that's why I was asking about reinstalling S Note itself.
As soon as you start a new note (+ key) it will give you the option of what note template you want to use...
And if you have installed an OTA to the latest you will now have a landscape template...

Thanks again for the reply. And thanks for bringing the landscape template to my attention; my S Note includes this template...But I'm not referring to the templates... I'm referring to the initial four Books, I think it was, that are included.
I'm not really sure what all I'm missing out on,
due to the absence of these included readings, that are missing from my Note 10.1
(I think one of these notes or a couple of the notes, are manuals).
But, beyond that, I really really want the ability to have a note/memo [like S Memo's widget allows].
On my S3 I have a whole pane dedicated to an instance of the widget.
I keep a list of things I need to do, on it; and it's always staring at me, without me having to do anything at all -I don't need to launch an application, I don't need to click any shortcuts, or go to any folder -it's just there..
And when I need to edit it or add something to it, I just simply double tap the screen, without having to launch any apps or go to application folders, or anything.
S Note has the mini app -but the mini app is REALLY always there, as in you can't get away from it, unless you close it.
And more importantly, for as long as it's there, it's editable, so it's prone to accidental smears.
S Note is an alright piece but it's just shy of gimmicky.
This S Memo feature, which enables users to take the S Pen and write a note -and keep it indefinitely handy is slightly harder to find. I've found other memo apps and note taking apps that are close -but never quite right. Some don't allow you to hand write (you have to keyboard your info in); and others don't offer this ever so wonderful widget...
This has become a tangential rant, hasn't it?
Sorry...
I just want S Memo for my note 10.1
I think I also had this issue after installing the pre-rooted European ROM on a US N8103.
I managed to find a solution - too late for you now though
1) Installing Titanium Backup Root + Pro Key via the Play Market in Windows
2) In TB Freezing S-Note and then wiping the cache (Swipe Left on the Apps Backup Properties to get to the Special Properties) I also tried wiping the Apps Data but that didn't make any difference.
You could do the same thing in Application Manager but I think it would take about 20 minutes scrolling down to maybe get to S Note whilst the message popped up. Alternately you could add a short cut to the home screen and try long pressing and dropping on to App Info - which you could maybe just about do between pop-ups.
I guess you could stick a recovery on it and just wipe the cache full stop?
[EDIT]
BTW how did you get on with the OTA didn't work out so well for me

I had the same issue after flashing the root injected stock ICS through ODIN. I was going from a rooted JB Rom (that did not work, and was not JB.. AA not the best site.)
Anyways the only way I was able to fix it was to painfully go through the Settings>Applications>All>S-Note Clear Cache/Data, and Force Stop.
It's tedious as hell, but it works. Your lucky yours is popping up every 5 minutes mine was about every 30 seconds took awhile to get through those menus! Hope this solves your issue!

Kids Mode is missing

For some reason my Tab 4 10.1 didn't have the homescreen/app drawer shortcut to download Kids Mode. Could someone share their Kids Mode apk?
Thanks!

A reset under General>backup /restore should bring it back. My tab booted a little differently from the first boot after I did a factory data reset. If you don't want to lose your setup I'm sure someone will post the apk but the fact you don't have it you should do a reset.

Check for a software update. The Kids Mode download appeared after I did an update check.
My 8.0 said it had an update shortly after I first set it up. The update preamble specifically mentioned Kids Mode being included. And now I have an icon in the app drawer for it.

I just got mine today and it didn't have the kids mode on it but as soon as I did the update that it told me I had, I had kids mode on the tablet. Now I have one question. What the heck is this supposed to do to your tablet? Is this something that you can set up for your kids and also protects your stuff from any accidental deletion? I just want to know before I decide to run this app. Don't want to mess up settings that I have set up on it right now by running this.
LTE Tab 4 models have Kids Mode removed
I spoke to Samsung Telecommunications US headquarters this week out of frustration of not having the Kids Mode App on our two new AT&T LTE Samsung Tab 4 devices and have confirmed that all LTE models have had the Kids Mode feature removed from their devices. And, the most frustrating thing is actually on Samsung's own website for the individual, specific LTE models which lists the Kids Mode feature as a key selling point. And yes, the first thing people say is: "Have you checked for the latest updates (Android & Samsung.) And, the answer is yes. I have confirmed this removal with Samsung and notified them that this is indeed a huge problem. Maybe not so much for me or for you who may thrive off all things tech, but for the grandparent or parent buying this for their child with the sole purpose of using this key selling feature to help protect their child. Their frustration and discomfort in trying to use what they've been sold and not being able to will only push them away from Samsung or other Android devices. It is a disservice to both the Samsung and Android names as well as to the customer. And it makes us maybe reflect on what we can learn from apple (which pains me to say): when they advertise a feature, it does work on their devices especially on the new ones and even more so on a product listed to have the feature. It's both disappointing and embarrassing to see as both a Samsung and Android supporter.
And one more thing that pains me as an AT&T employee, which I am but not in mobility, that must be said!.. Samsung and AT&T have thought of our kids protection and replaced the Kids Mode with another app. FAMIGO!.. which is a PAID subscription of $4.99 a month to protect your Child!! THINKING of this even more gets me so infuriated!! What an absolute disservice and embarrassment!!
So i have found a solution for the Tab 4 8" Users. on the 10.1" Device it should be not working because the Screen is bigger but i think there is an other way.
I have the Tab Active (T365) with the same specs as the Tab 4 8" and i missed the Kids Mode to.
So now we have two Solutions for Root Users and for Users without Root.
Access to the Samsung Kids Store have only Root Users or the T330NU User!!!! Users without Root can use the Kids Mode only with other Apps from the PlayStore or should be download Kids Games over the Samsung App Store (not the Kids App Store).
How-To Install Kids mode for Users without Root:
Download this KidsModeT330-T365.zip File
Extract ZIP and copy to your Tablet SD Card
now install ALL Apps at the normal Way (Filemanager and klick on each App to Install)
ignore some error Messages if they comes and realy install all Apps
now Reboot your Device
now Kids Mode must be work
How-To Install Kids mode for Users with Root:
Download and Install the SecKidsModeInstaller.apk
Make a Backup from your build.prop
Edit your build.prop (3 Points):
Code:
ro.product.model=[B]SM-T330NU[/B]
Code:
ro.product.name=[B]milletwifiue[/B]
Code:
ro.product.device=[B]milletwifiue[/B]
Save the buil.prop and set the Permissions (rw-/r--/r--), now Reboot your Device
After Reboot launch the KidsModeInstaller App and follow the Instructions
After Installed Process you can launch the Kids Mode and go into the Kids Store and download all Games you needed
If you are ready and finish you must be Reverse the Changes in the buil.prop . So delete the build.prop and copy / replace it with you Backup build.prop (set Permissions) and Reboot
On my rooted Tab Active LTE (SM-T365) this is working (Android 4.4.4).

OMG, thank you so much. I've spent so much time looking for a tablet version of sammy kids mode and settled for an s4 or s5 variant that was crop all wrong and very awkward. I even tried flashing rom but no luck until this post. Im a rooted sm-p607 note 10.1 tmobile 4glte. The prop mod didn't work but installing the files manually did the trick, thank you.:good:
If anyone runs into this, check your Widgets before you go doing a full-on Factory Reset. I found a 1x1 Widget for Kids Mode hiding in here and saved a ton of time and patience. Hope this helps.

Confirmed 1x1 kid mode widget was there. Dragged to Home Screen then click and ask to download. This was on a T-230NU 7" which after flashing newer firmware then rerooting, kid mode did not show up.
does this give you the kids mode that is actually on the kids tab version. I bought a Samsung Tab A and it has a kids mode but now you need to pay for everything. The only way to get it free is if you bought the kids tab.

[Q] (N8010) need advice for custom rom selection. Family use

Hi, to all. Greetings from Argentina.
I want to change the Rom of my tablet and get out from Samsung's Jelly Bean, and I am thinking about going the custom rom way.
I own a N8010 from early 2013, and lately I don’t use it a lot, but suddenly the rest of my family (wife and children) want to start using it, and honestly I do too.
The main use would be:
Surfing the web (Firefox)
Play games
Read e-books
Listening music (local and streaming)
Watching Movies/Youtube videos (not a lot)
Take pictures and record videos (ocasionally).
All the online activities are done via WIFI (because it is an N8010, only wifi model).
I don't mind losing the following functionalities
S-Pen, and all the apps related to it
S-Apps
Samsung multiwindow
I almost don’t use Bluetooth at all, neither advanced networking, just wifi access.
I need (if exists) a rom that provides this key functions:
Multiuser
Posibility to move apps to sd card (without root or link2sd, etc.)
A friend of mine have an LG G Pad 7 with LG stock Kitkat and it does have those 2 options.
So, I want to ask you, which would be the best rom that can fulfill these requirments:
Stock Samsung Kitkat - I guess not
A custom Rom based on Kitkat?
A custom Rom based on Lollipop?
CyanogenMod 11? (I know it's Kitkat too)
CyanogenMod 12 ?(I know it's Lollipop too)
Thanks in advance, and excuse my poor english.

To answer your questions:
There are no BEST ROM here.
Every ROM/Custom ROM has its own advantages.
Just try one & if it's good for you then stick with it.
If not, then try another.
"Every" Android version has multiuser ability as Android=Linux fork (At least Jelly bean is proven has multiuser, but without UI).
The only problem is the UI(User Interface) as not all Android version/ROM provide it.
I've tried multiuser in my GT-N8000 but then decided to remove it back to single user.
It consume my internal memory space too much.
Moving "apps" into microSD is a built in feature in Android, but not all app support this.
I also seen some ROM disabled it, so....again....try it yourself.
This built in "move to SD" feature has it own disadvantages though as some files are needed to be installed into internal memory it can cause the app size after moving it to SD will become slightly or significantly bigger around 10% - 40%.
And widget apps will be broken if you move it to SD.
By using ROOT,you can move it to SD without additional 10% - 40% size.
The method is called Mount Binding Folder.
Conclusion:
Read carefully before flashing any ROM
Avoid turning your device into an expensive paperweight
Try it & if it suits you, use it as your daily driver
If not, try another
If you have any questions, ASK
....Again....avoid turning your device into an expensive paperweight

Switching freely between ROMs on GN Pro 12.2

I have searched for this and I realize there are ROM managers but I'm definitely new to them. I'm expecting this to KIND of be a repeat question or something not specific to the Pro 12.2 but here goes.
I want to install CM 12 to use with my music apps for the low latency Samsung Pro Audio stuff (hoping CM includes that, I know it's a lollipop thing and it's on my Note4 which has stock L)
I want to run either hyperdrive or stock-rooted ROM for content consumption and everything else (since there's no 4-app multi window for CM 12) I'm often watching netflix while reading emails and copying/pasting between Chrome and Browser, so I really do use the 4 window thing all the time) Plus s-pen, s-note, etc.
But audio latency has been unusable for real-time MIDI keyboards and guitar amp modelling software with any ROMs I've tried so far (hoping CM will work, my Note 4's stock Lollipop works pretty good with audio stuff)
So I wanna know what is the easiest way to switch between ROMs. Ideally I don't want to manually create a full backup in Titanium right before flashing, I'm actually hoping there is something akin to "users" on Windows, where I can boot into one Rom and everything I have done, any files, any settings, all come back from the last time I shut it down, so I never have to actually back it up. So more like a dual boot. I want files and settings to be saved like they normally would. I'm guessing this would require a lot of room and I'd need to enable boot-from-sd-card if such a thing exists. I have a 128gb micro SD so I should have enough room.
I have the 64gb wifi version Note Pro (or I would have flashed the official lollipop already)
Not going to happen on the Note 12.2. What you need is TWRP with the MultiRom patch and a multirom patched kernel. It was tried for the 12.2 and abandoned. The problem is that is device has a very small user base so it does not get much development.
the problem that cost to much......
Inviato dal mio LG-D802 utilizzando Tapatalk
The poor man's version of this, via TWRP, is to do restore/backups of one or more roms. It really does not take long to restore or to back up an entire setup, and doing it to an external microsd is the way to make it extra safe (in case you wipe your user data in error while installing a rom the first time). I don't even have my just-purchased Note Pro in hand yet, but have extensively rommed away on both my trusty Galaxy Note II phone and Asus TF700 tablet. In the phone's case, it is a tmobile phone stuck in jelly bean (ack!). So I have the jelly bean rom in case I want to play with the s-pen and a nice Oct-O lollipop rom I can switch to. Five minutes or so and I'm good. No idea what such an approach would work like on the Note Pro, but suspect it would be faster than the phone. If you knew all this, I apologize.
Blessings.

Few questions regarding Note 20 Ultra ( please help )

Hey guys, Im fairly new to this Note 20 Ultra and Android in general so I decided to ask this here but wasn't sure if I should make a separate topic for each anyways here we go I hope you can help me out:
1. How can I make it so when I receive text messages, notifications, etc... the phone screen turn on like iPhones?
2. I'm using Google Maps for navigation but it seems to be running at a very low FPS and it's not smooth at all, is there a way to make it run smoother/higher frame rate?
3. Whats the best way to fully format and reinstall the firmware on my Note 20 Ultra ( I have the unlocked US version purchased directly from Samsung )/ for reference I know I can do a reset from the settings but I wanna know if there is a way to hook it up to PC and have the phone completely wiped and install a fresh OS like I used be able to do on iPhone.

Thanks for taking the time to reply at least but:
1. Already have edge lightning which is not what i was asking: ( Turn the screen on when receiving txt messages )
2. done that as well, doesn't fix the low sub 30 fps issue. looking for any hidden settings/mods to get higher fps in Maps
3. honestly that was not helpful, I'm simply asking what's the best way to go about it, not bothering is simply wasn't what I was looking for.
4. again thanks for taking the time none the less.
1. For this I use a third party app as the Note 20 does not have anymore the notification LED. This app is called aodNotify (from Play Store) and it has option to wake up the screen when a notification arives.
The phone itself does not have such an option, it has something else called "lift to wake" that will wake the screen if you pick it up from where it was standing....but that's regardless if you get a notification or not
2. Dunno what to say here, Maps works fine for me. Maybe reinstall the app, wipe its cache, things like this. But I presume you already tried these
3. Download your official firmware either from Sammobile site or using a tool like Frija, Samfirm (is deprecated) and such, then write the firmware on your phone using Odin. This will ensure you won't trigger Knox and that you'll have official firmware written as new

Welcome to the forums, welcome to Android, and welcome to the Note family!!
To start off with, there's going to be hiccups switching platforms. Apple and Android do the same things, but for different people. Apple just works, but it's the same experience across every device. Android requires some tinkering and customization, but the beauty is you CAN do that.
And some people just can't make the switch, and that's cool. I left Android for Apple years ago, but after months of trying to make it like my Android, I realized that was stupid and switched back to Android and never looked back. Then there's some people who switch platforms and love it. Then there's others who carry and Apple in one pocket, and an Android in the other, because they appreciate the differences.
1. I second AOD notify. I love that app and have used it on my Note 10, my Note 20, and plan to see if it works on the Z Fold 2 when it arrives next week. It can mimic the LED notification light, wake your screen, etc. Also, remember you have an Always On Display that will show all notifications without turning on the screen. I know that's not what you asked, but OPTIONS.
2. Do you have the adaptive refresh rate on? My Google Maps has never been choppy. My work phone used to be an Apple, but I don't remember it having smoother navigation than my Android. I wish I could see your two phones side by side to see what you mean.
3. We don't have iTunes, so you have to do a little more research and work, but we do have an equivalent for reinstalling the factory firmware. For Pixels it's a few command line commands. For Samsung, it's using a Windows application called ODIN.
I say this not to be lazy, but because it will genuinely help you way more...but use the search bar and do some research here. Also check out the the other Galaxy forums (S series, Note 10, even Note 9 and 8). You'll find many tutorials on how to flash the firmware with ODIN. More in depth than I could ever type here. I think I even wrote a guide back in the Note 8 days and posted it here.
But honestly, 99.9% of the time, flashing the firmware isn't necessary and is a waste of time. But, if you want to do it, you can!
The learning this new platform will be fun if you really dive in and start reading and learning. We were all new to Android one time as well. Some of us old farts, like me, came Blackberry and have been doing this for a while. Some people tend to forget they were new once too.
Search, read, then ask questions, and you'll be fine. Welcome!!
