For some reason my Tab 4 10.1 didn't have the homescreen/app drawer shortcut to download Kids Mode. Could someone share their Kids Mode apk?
Thanks!

A reset under General>backup /restore should bring it back. My tab booted a little differently from the first boot after I did a factory data reset. If you don't want to lose your setup I'm sure someone will post the apk but the fact you don't have it you should do a reset.

Check for a software update. The Kids Mode download appeared after I did an update check.
My 8.0 said it had an update shortly after I first set it up. The update preamble specifically mentioned Kids Mode being included. And now I have an icon in the app drawer for it.

I just got mine today and it didn't have the kids mode on it but as soon as I did the update that it told me I had, I had kids mode on the tablet. Now I have one question. What the heck is this supposed to do to your tablet? Is this something that you can set up for your kids and also protects your stuff from any accidental deletion? I just want to know before I decide to run this app. Don't want to mess up settings that I have set up on it right now by running this.
LTE Tab 4 models have Kids Mode removed
I spoke to Samsung Telecommunications US headquarters this week out of frustration of not having the Kids Mode App on our two new AT&T LTE Samsung Tab 4 devices and have confirmed that all LTE models have had the Kids Mode feature removed from their devices. And, the most frustrating thing is actually on Samsung's own website for the individual, specific LTE models which lists the Kids Mode feature as a key selling point. And yes, the first thing people say is: "Have you checked for the latest updates (Android & Samsung.) And, the answer is yes. I have confirmed this removal with Samsung and notified them that this is indeed a huge problem. Maybe not so much for me or for you who may thrive off all things tech, but for the grandparent or parent buying this for their child with the sole purpose of using this key selling feature to help protect their child. Their frustration and discomfort in trying to use what they've been sold and not being able to will only push them away from Samsung or other Android devices. It is a disservice to both the Samsung and Android names as well as to the customer. And it makes us maybe reflect on what we can learn from apple (which pains me to say): when they advertise a feature, it does work on their devices especially on the new ones and even more so on a product listed to have the feature. It's both disappointing and embarrassing to see as both a Samsung and Android supporter.
And one more thing that pains me as an AT&T employee, which I am but not in mobility, that must be said!.. Samsung and AT&T have thought of our kids protection and replaced the Kids Mode with another app. FAMIGO!.. which is a PAID subscription of $4.99 a month to protect your Child!! THINKING of this even more gets me so infuriated!! What an absolute disservice and embarrassment!!
So i have found a solution for the Tab 4 8" Users. on the 10.1" Device it should be not working because the Screen is bigger but i think there is an other way.
I have the Tab Active (T365) with the same specs as the Tab 4 8" and i missed the Kids Mode to.
So now we have two Solutions for Root Users and for Users without Root.
Access to the Samsung Kids Store have only Root Users or the T330NU User!!!! Users without Root can use the Kids Mode only with other Apps from the PlayStore or should be download Kids Games over the Samsung App Store (not the Kids App Store).
How-To Install Kids mode for Users without Root:
Download this KidsModeT330-T365.zip File
Extract ZIP and copy to your Tablet SD Card
now install ALL Apps at the normal Way (Filemanager and klick on each App to Install)
ignore some error Messages if they comes and realy install all Apps
now Reboot your Device
now Kids Mode must be work
How-To Install Kids mode for Users with Root:
Download and Install the SecKidsModeInstaller.apk
Make a Backup from your build.prop
Edit your build.prop (3 Points):
Code:
ro.product.model=[B]SM-T330NU[/B]
Code:
ro.product.name=[B]milletwifiue[/B]
Code:
ro.product.device=[B]milletwifiue[/B]
Save the buil.prop and set the Permissions (rw-/r--/r--), now Reboot your Device
After Reboot launch the KidsModeInstaller App and follow the Instructions
After Installed Process you can launch the Kids Mode and go into the Kids Store and download all Games you needed
If you are ready and finish you must be Reverse the Changes in the buil.prop . So delete the build.prop and copy / replace it with you Backup build.prop (set Permissions) and Reboot
On my rooted Tab Active LTE (SM-T365) this is working (Android 4.4.4).

OMG, thank you so much. I've spent so much time looking for a tablet version of sammy kids mode and settled for an s4 or s5 variant that was crop all wrong and very awkward. I even tried flashing rom but no luck until this post. Im a rooted sm-p607 note 10.1 tmobile 4glte. The prop mod didn't work but installing the files manually did the trick, thank you.:good:
If anyone runs into this, check your Widgets before you go doing a full-on Factory Reset. I found a 1x1 Widget for Kids Mode hiding in here and saved a ton of time and patience. Hope this helps.

Confirmed 1x1 kid mode widget was there. Dragged to Home Screen then click and ask to download. This was on a T-230NU 7" which after flashing newer firmware then rerooting, kid mode did not show up.
does this give you the kids mode that is actually on the kids tab version. I bought a Samsung Tab A and it has a kids mode but now you need to pay for everything. The only way to get it free is if you bought the kids tab.

After installing the N8000XXALGA_N8000OXXALG5_PHE_RootGalaxyNote.com via Odin, the message "Unfortunately, S Note has stopped working" pops up every 5-9 seconds.
How do I resolve this situation?
Losing S-Note is not to be considered a preferable option.
The tablet is currently not really usable, as S-Note appears to be relaunching and crashing, so I can get one click, touch, or gesture between notices.
I wanted root access to avail myself of the market enabler, so I downloaded the pre-rooted ROM that's supposed to be reliable and stable, and it's supposed to keeps things stock, except for the fact that the tablet would then be rooted.
But now, I get an error message every 5 seconds telling me that S Note stopped working.
I can now get one click in, in between notices. What's worse, I can't temporarily stop S Note, to at least disable the warning, and let me try to do something.
I can't use my tablet, at all. And I haven't any other ROMs handy (except for the Jelly Bean leak).
But all I wanted was STOCK rooted... Not headache.
All I want is to use market enabler so I can download geometriq. Is that too much to ask for?!?!?
In my despair, I went into recovery mode and hit the factory reset button. I restarted my tablet as if brand new, all my files gone, my settings rearranged to default, everything... I would have backed up, but without root, I couldn't get Titanium Backup installed, previously. Now, even the demo stuff that comes with SNote is missing. Although, everything seems to be working, now.

You don't need root for that. Isn't market enabler an app for devices which don't have install unknown sources in settings? I had that app on my old phone. Note has the option built in. Note 10.1 settings, in security, has option to check unknown sources. Which allows you to install apps from other sources and not just marketplace. Works well for me as ive installed tons of apps that way and wasn't from marketplace.
If that's not what you mean then my bust

What you're referring to I think is the allowing of unknown sources. That's a little different from what I'm trying to do.
On a slightly different but still relevant note -no pun intended... Can I re-install S Note; if so, how?
Re-install your stock rom using ODIN... This will give back all stock apps...
Then go here - http://rootgalaxynote.com/galaxy-no...t-galaxy-note-10-1-easiest-methodcwmmethod-2/ and follow the instructions... This will give root access to your stock rom (n8000) and you don't have another countries CSC...

Thanks for the reply.
But, that's exactly what I had done.
However, you know that initial collection of notes that are included, in a stock ROM?
My S Note is still missing that.
When I launch my S Note, it's barren
-not a single solitary note.
That's why I wasn't sure if reinstalling the ROM installed a brand new S Note, or what.
And that's why I was asking about reinstalling S Note itself.
As soon as you start a new note (+ key) it will give you the option of what note template you want to use...
And if you have installed an OTA to the latest you will now have a landscape template...

Thanks again for the reply. And thanks for bringing the landscape template to my attention; my S Note includes this template...But I'm not referring to the templates... I'm referring to the initial four Books, I think it was, that are included.
I'm not really sure what all I'm missing out on,
due to the absence of these included readings, that are missing from my Note 10.1
(I think one of these notes or a couple of the notes, are manuals).
But, beyond that, I really really want the ability to have a note/memo [like S Memo's widget allows].
On my S3 I have a whole pane dedicated to an instance of the widget.
I keep a list of things I need to do, on it; and it's always staring at me, without me having to do anything at all -I don't need to launch an application, I don't need to click any shortcuts, or go to any folder -it's just there..
And when I need to edit it or add something to it, I just simply double tap the screen, without having to launch any apps or go to application folders, or anything.
S Note has the mini app -but the mini app is REALLY always there, as in you can't get away from it, unless you close it.
And more importantly, for as long as it's there, it's editable, so it's prone to accidental smears.
S Note is an alright piece but it's just shy of gimmicky.
This S Memo feature, which enables users to take the S Pen and write a note -and keep it indefinitely handy is slightly harder to find. I've found other memo apps and note taking apps that are close -but never quite right. Some don't allow you to hand write (you have to keyboard your info in); and others don't offer this ever so wonderful widget...
This has become a tangential rant, hasn't it?
Sorry...
I just want S Memo for my note 10.1
I think I also had this issue after installing the pre-rooted European ROM on a US N8103.
I managed to find a solution - too late for you now though
1) Installing Titanium Backup Root + Pro Key via the Play Market in Windows
2) In TB Freezing S-Note and then wiping the cache (Swipe Left on the Apps Backup Properties to get to the Special Properties) I also tried wiping the Apps Data but that didn't make any difference.
You could do the same thing in Application Manager but I think it would take about 20 minutes scrolling down to maybe get to S Note whilst the message popped up. Alternately you could add a short cut to the home screen and try long pressing and dropping on to App Info - which you could maybe just about do between pop-ups.
I guess you could stick a recovery on it and just wipe the cache full stop?
[EDIT]
BTW how did you get on with the OTA didn't work out so well for me

I had the same issue after flashing the root injected stock ICS through ODIN. I was going from a rooted JB Rom (that did not work, and was not JB.. AA not the best site.)
Anyways the only way I was able to fix it was to painfully go through the Settings>Applications>All>S-Note Clear Cache/Data, and Force Stop.
It's tedious as hell, but it works. Your lucky yours is popping up every 5 minutes mine was about every 30 seconds took awhile to get through those menus! Hope this solves your issue!
Hi. My daughter has an SGS Note 10.1 - completely stock firmware since we purchased it in December. We just updated it to Jelly Bean 2 days ago and everything went fine. However, there is a JB demo video that must've been installed with the update showing the added features of JB. However, we can't stop the video from starting to run every time the Note is started or put into sleep. As soon as the sleep button is pushed the video starts. There is not a pause or play button - if you touch the screen the video disappears and the lock screen appears (where one would enter their code or "connect the dots" diagram to enter the device). We can unlock the device and everything works fine. But if you press the sleep button the device goes into sleep for about 1 second and then the demo video pops up and starts to play again. The only way to stop the video from playing is to power down the device. But, once you turn it back on the video starts to play and you must touch the screen to stop it.
I've searched all over the web and can't find anything on this. My guess is this is too new and not enough people are experiencing this problem. Any thoughts? THANKYOU!
maybe not a JB update issue??
we just updated my son's SGS Note 10.1 and he does NOT have the same issue. so maybe it is a demo video my daughter downloaded from the web?? Either way, not sure how to stop this from playing. Is there a folder on the Note where I can delete a system video? Any other ideas? THANKS AGAIN.

Hey now that sounds annoying. I've never heard of a video launching after hitting the power button. But we should be able to find it and delete it. Its been a while since I've used stock but I'm pretty sure our device came with a file explorer stock. If you go to the app drawer you should see it there. There are plenty of options in the play store which don't require root if not, just search file explorer and that should take care of that. Now launch a file manager and look for sdcard, select that and look for a folder called Samsung. In there will be another folder called video. I'm guessing the jB demo video is located here but it may not be. If you see it then a long press will give you the option to delete. If it doesn't show up there you could use the search button in the file browser if you know the file name. Also what video player is being launched? You could find the video in that app and that should give you a way to delete as well. Actually that sounds a lot simpler. Lol good luck and if you don't find it post back here. No reason to be terrorized by some rogue video when your ready to put the tab down.
If you've ever flashed the PAP firmware it does the same sort of thing. I believe that it's the special SCS for some sort of store demo.
So it's definitely not a bug, but a mode that can be enabled. I seem to recall that it was not easy to get rid of either
I'll try to remember how I finally got rid of it - it was some sort of settings file that I had to modify I think.
Its Demo mode .
Likewise i don't have it and don't remember except possible when running settings turn off .
Best is freeze with Titanium Backup or remove the app .
jje
If it really is demo or retail mode, I found that it was impossible to change a few settings.
You can't enable the lock screen at all.
You should find that it's impossible to change the screen timeout values. It will change, but when you exit settings and re-enter it will have ignored the change.
It happened on my Daughter's N8010 - I was experimenting with some stock ROMS cos I'd had an issue.
I flashed it to German JB 4.11 and then realised I couldn't find the UAE Stock ROM - whoops.
So I flashed a few other ICS multi CSC ROMS and tried to get my way back to stock. One of these was the PAP rom. I've since flashed it back to JB
So tell me, how did you do the upgrade to JB?

we simply received the OTA notification that JB was available and selected update. Went quickly and when it was done the home lock screen was on. We entered as we usually do through the lock screen and everything was fine and all of the new features were there. As soon as we hit the power button to put it into sleep the video came on and the rest is history. Thanks for everyone's help on this...it is frustrating for my daughter and now for me!!

Thanks for the ideas. I've done as you've suggested and I can't find a video file that matches. I don't know the name of the video and there isn't any indication as to what type of video player is playing this. this video only runs full screen and I can't resize it or pause it. As soon as I touch the screen the video disappears. I don't even know what type of video file android plays so I can't do a wildcard search, either (windows reference - if android has such a thing). I'm the opposite of an expert regarding android or the note so I can't say I'm doing the right thing here.

If you can remember that would be great!
The store demo app appears in the Samsung App store (not the Google Play one) and should probably be removable as an app unless of course it does "special" things.
Found it, it's called "Retailmode for Galaxy Note 10.1" - see if you can find and remove it?
I tried a few things to get rid of it, and I definately remember looking through my installed apps & uninstalling something
Sorry, I can't remember what it was though.

thanks for your reply. There isn't an app listed like that in the Samsung App store nor the Google play store. I don't see any apps in either that have anything to do with the Note or a demo.
I did notice something else. Now when I power on the device from complete shutdown (or restart) the lock screen appears as normal and the video does NOT play. On the lock screen there isn't any time showing. When I unlock the Note the time appears in the lower right corner and everything works fine (maybe this is normal)
BUT...when I go to put the Note into sleep mode, the video appears as described above. The time shows (even though the device hasn't been unlocked) and a NEW icon that looks like a gray eye with 3 eyebrows appears in the lower right notification bar (or maybe it is supposed to look like a timer). This eye now stays on until I turn off (or restart) the Note and unlock it.
EDIT: I just researched what this gray eye is for and found out it is for "smart stay", which keeps the device on as long as you are looking at it. I turned it off in settings:display and unfortunately the video still comes on when I try to put it into sleep (or if the device enters sleep by itself). The weird thing is the smart stay icon only shows in the notification bar once the video starts to play even though it is turned on in the settings.
If you have any additional thoughts please let me know.
It should be found in SYSTEM/ APPS or SYSTEM/Data /Data/apps

Are you sure you aren't just seeing the screen saver program? Think I had a similar problem after JB upgrade. In your applications menu, you should have a "screensaver" program that you can open and disable the function. That is what I did. Unless we're talking apples and oranges here??

correct. This isn't screen saver but good idea.
jje QUOTE:" It should be found in SYSTEM/ APPS or SYSTEM/Data /Data/apps"
I downloaded "FILE MANAGER HD" and looked all over the unit, especially where you pointed above. I sorted by date and by size (figuring a movie would be rather large). The problem is I don't know what I'm looking for. I didn't see anything with the words "Demo" or "Retail" or "Jelly Bean" in them and I don't know what the file extension would be.
I searched SYSTEM folder using keywords
"demo" (only found a font file),
"retail", "Jelly", "movie", "intro", "*.mp4"
"feature" (found a bunch of .xml , .jar and .odex files),
"clip" (found .apk and .odex files)
"mp4" (found only 2 .so files but I know daughter has made more of these which are in the GALLERY/Camera folder)
"tablet" (found 43 .odex and .apk files. couldn't run apk files from the folder as security precaution)
Is there any type of history log I can start to tell me what is running?
This is getting really frustrating but I THANK YOU for all of your suggestions!!!!
video of demo movie
I uploaded a video showing what is happening - it didn't let me upload a .3gp file from my SGS1 phone so I put it into a .zip file. View attachment 1667754 Just to clarify, this video shows the video I'm trying to get rid of - it is a demo JB showing the new features - I don't know...maybe seeing what it is doing will help in some way.
I can also take screen shots/videos of the folders/files search.

Are you sure you aren't just seeing the screen saver program? Think I had a similar problem after JB upgrade. In your applications menu, you should have a "screensaver" program that you can open and disable the function. That is what I did. Unless we're talking apples and oranges here??

All right...I feel like an idiot (I am an idiot) and I am posting this to prevent anyone else from doing what I did and wasting hours of time. Even though my daughter said my she didn't download any screen savers (another reason for me to be crowned an idiot for thinking my pre-teen always knows what she is doing) AND my initial search for screen savers came up empty, I finally found one when I was looking for the task killer (which disappeared from the center app bar since JB was installed?). The screen saver was THE VIDEO!!! Zagleft1 wins. Why anyone would want a screen saver to come on when they press the power button is beyond me but even if that is a bug I wish I had found this dam program a lot sooner.
I really can't believe it turned out to be this simple and I really apologize to all those if you feel I wasted your time. You have all been great - I learned a lot about the Note 10.1 and jelly bean. I even found out my son is using my daughter's note to look up "boobs" and "truth or dare sex games". Now onto parental controls. I'm sure the PC process will dwarf the amount of hours I "wasted" on trying to solve this video problem.
Thanks again everyone!!!!!
I've been looking around the forum and can't see this mentioned, as well as a google search.
I'm wondering if it's possible to get Kids Mode from the S5 and Note 3 over to the n8010?

I think it will be quite possible. I have pulled Kids mode from Tab S but have not had a chance to look at it yet.
what ROM?
JB or KK?
JB doesn't have Kids Mode, but it has partial multiple user capability.
KK has Kid Mode / Guest Mode

I have a 4, 5, and 7 year old with rooted devices. My two youngest have N8013 tabs. I rooted them and installed a stock rom since I have been unable to locate a working download for CM10.1 for this device and needed Android v.4.1.x to swap the microSD with the internal storage and turn the tablets internal recognized storage to 64gb... or even 128gb with the new SanDisk card that came out. I use a free app locker from Play Store which locks apps you select with a passcode or pattern code. It works perfectly for redirects in games and in-app purchases as well. You will need to set SuperSU up to grant root privileges to needed apps as default. I use the pay version of chainfire's SuperSU, so it's easy to do with any ROM. The app is 'Applock' and its a nice GUI and super simple to use. I've set their devices like this since my oldest was 3 and got her first tablet... never a single issue Good Luck! :fingers-crossed:
Hey guys, Im fairly new to this Note 20 Ultra and Android in general so I decided to ask this here but wasn't sure if I should make a separate topic for each anyways here we go I hope you can help me out:
1. How can I make it so when I receive text messages, notifications, etc... the phone screen turn on like iPhones?
2. I'm using Google Maps for navigation but it seems to be running at a very low FPS and it's not smooth at all, is there a way to make it run smoother/higher frame rate?
3. Whats the best way to fully format and reinstall the firmware on my Note 20 Ultra ( I have the unlocked US version purchased directly from Samsung )/ for reference I know I can do a reset from the settings but I wanna know if there is a way to hook it up to PC and have the phone completely wiped and install a fresh OS like I used be able to do on iPhone.

1: look into option within settings for edge lighting.
2: download maps locally to speed things up.
3: don't bother.
4: research the xda forums.

Thanks for taking the time to reply at least but:
1. Already have edge lightning which is not what i was asking: ( Turn the screen on when receiving txt messages )
2. done that as well, doesn't fix the low sub 30 fps issue. looking for any hidden settings/mods to get higher fps in Maps
3. honestly that was not helpful, I'm simply asking what's the best way to go about it, not bothering is simply wasn't what I was looking for.
4. again thanks for taking the time none the less.
1. For this I use a third party app as the Note 20 does not have anymore the notification LED. This app is called aodNotify (from Play Store) and it has option to wake up the screen when a notification arives.
The phone itself does not have such an option, it has something else called "lift to wake" that will wake the screen if you pick it up from where it was standing....but that's regardless if you get a notification or not
2. Dunno what to say here, Maps works fine for me. Maybe reinstall the app, wipe its cache, things like this. But I presume you already tried these
3. Download your official firmware either from Sammobile site or using a tool like Frija, Samfirm (is deprecated) and such, then write the firmware on your phone using Odin. This will ensure you won't trigger Knox and that you'll have official firmware written as new
Sent from nowhere over the air...

Welcome to the forums, welcome to Android, and welcome to the Note family!!
To start off with, there's going to be hiccups switching platforms. Apple and Android do the same things, but for different people. Apple just works, but it's the same experience across every device. Android requires some tinkering and customization, but the beauty is you CAN do that.
And some people just can't make the switch, and that's cool. I left Android for Apple years ago, but after months of trying to make it like my Android, I realized that was stupid and switched back to Android and never looked back. Then there's some people who switch platforms and love it. Then there's others who carry and Apple in one pocket, and an Android in the other, because they appreciate the differences.
1. I second AOD notify. I love that app and have used it on my Note 10, my Note 20, and plan to see if it works on the Z Fold 2 when it arrives next week. It can mimic the LED notification light, wake your screen, etc. Also, remember you have an Always On Display that will show all notifications without turning on the screen. I know that's not what you asked, but OPTIONS.
2. Do you have the adaptive refresh rate on? My Google Maps has never been choppy. My work phone used to be an Apple, but I don't remember it having smoother navigation than my Android. I wish I could see your two phones side by side to see what you mean.
3. We don't have iTunes, so you have to do a little more research and work, but we do have an equivalent for reinstalling the factory firmware. For Pixels it's a few command line commands. For Samsung, it's using a Windows application called ODIN.
I say this not to be lazy, but because it will genuinely help you way more...but use the search bar and do some research here. Also check out the the other Galaxy forums (S series, Note 10, even Note 9 and 8). You'll find many tutorials on how to flash the firmware with ODIN. More in depth than I could ever type here. I think I even wrote a guide back in the Note 8 days and posted it here.
But honestly, 99.9% of the time, flashing the firmware isn't necessary and is a waste of time. But, if you want to do it, you can!
The learning this new platform will be fun if you really dive in and start reading and learning. We were all new to Android one time as well. Some of us old farts, like me, came Blackberry and have been doing this for a while. Some people tend to forget they were new once too.
Search, read, then ask questions, and you'll be fine. Welcome!!
Experienced heartbreak in purchasing slider & flip phones off of eBay, which worked for seller only days before, but then learning that Verizon will not activate any new lines for 3G, slider, flip, CDMA devices. This has always been a great way to give kids a first phone, a phone that will only do call & text. So, turned to old family inventory or new companies that specialize in a modern phone with internet or social media interaction. Enter Gabb Wireless or Pinwheel. Landed on Gabb Wireless, but my bride wants me to try to mod an old Verizon bone stock Galaxy S5. Of course...& I'm sure many of you have been there...some guy we know was able to do it with his kid's phone...so now I should be able to do it. Never mind this guy is a software dev and most likely using an iOS phone. So, gauntlet thrown down, challenge issued. I've been doing a lot of digging & don't know if this can be done with this build. Here's what we have:
G900V, bone stock Verizon
Build number = MMB29M.G900VVRU2DQL1
Security patch level = 8/1/17
Let me know if any other specs would be helpful.
Thank you kindly.

Not sure why you don't just go buy a burner flip phone from Walmart? I thought those could still be activated.
If not, you'd have to disable the portion of the kernel that handles data. Let's be honest, this is a ~10 year old device so you won't find much assistance unfortunately.
Oh yeah, forgot, this is Android 6.0.1.
As for the query, you're right...I could do the burner/fip/slider thing, perhaps...but, truly, it appears all carriers across the board are throwing off 3G devices as fast as they can. I did see some of the rough service basic phones have 4G capability, but can't justify price on those things. Tough balance to strike as we're doing some traveling where VZW is the only network that's really reliable...& trying to get a child the best camera possible on the devices we have, so they can take pics of stuff they may never see again. Old basic phones are pretty challenging to text on, too. Anyway, we have an old iPod Touch someone threw away, plus the S5. S5 has the better cameras. But it's one of the last builds they sold for Verizon...and I don't ever remember there being a way to unlock the bootloader on that build...the G900V. But, regardless, I still can't find a way to shut down mobile & Wi-Fi on it. I think they have a Verizon family app that will let you shut down the web, but it is extra per month, of course. Appreciate the feedback, for sure. This is just the DIY kinda life, I reckon: constantly trying to refurb, reuse the old stuff, fix stuff yourself, do without...all to live w/in your means & save dinero.

I mean there is a way to unlock the bootloader if you look on XDA. https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...ootloader-using-dev-bootloader-kk-mm.3337909/ The Verizon S5 was the worst model out of all of the US carrier variants.

I know this thread is almost a year old, and I'm sorry I'm late to the party, but I had the same idea!
My kids had been using Gabb Wireless for a while, and we were mostly happy with the service, but I wanted the option to install other useful apps on their phones without giving them access to the web. So, I bought a couple of old Galaxy S5 SM-G900V (Verizon version) phones, and I think I've succeeded in modifying them in a way that will prevent the kids from surfing the internet or installing their own apps. I thought I'd post my method here, in case anyone is still interested. Here's what I did:
Install Safestrap Recovery. (Follow this guide, up to and including the step where you install Safestrap. Skip the remaining steps in the guide.)
Boot into Safestrap Recovery and flash jrkruse's “slightly de-bloated” stock Marshmallow rom from here.
Use either ADB or Safestrap to remove any system apps that would allow kids to browse the web or download their own apps. (To delete unwanted system apps using Safestrap recovery, click Mount and make sure the system partition is mounted. Also make sure the “Mount system partition read-only” box is unchecked. Then go back and click Advanced > File Manager, and edit or remove system files as desired.) The web browser is already removed from jrkruse's rom, but I also removed the following apps:
from /system/app:
Gmail2
SamsungSetupWizard
SecEmail_K
InteractiveTutorial [This is the Samsung Help app.]
SamsungAppsWidget_Phone_Carrier_VZW
from /system/priv-app:
Velvet [this is the Google search app]
SamsungUpdates [this includes the Samsung Apps store and “Galaxy essentials,” which would allow kids to download and install their own apps]
GoogleOneTimeInitializer
SetupWizard
from /data/app:
com.android.vending-1 [this is the Google Play Store]
Edit the settings APK file to disable the option to remove the option to install apps from “uknown sources” (Settings > Security > Uknown Sources) so that users can’t enable that option. This will prevent kids from installing apps by sideloading (e.g. copying apps from a friend's phone via SD card.) Apps can still be installed via recovery or ADB, but most kids won't know how to do that.
To edit the settings APK properly, you could follow this guide, but I used a much hackier method and basically just sabotaged the security_settings_misc.xml file inside SecSettings.apk, so that the settings app crashes if the user tries to open and modify those settings.
I've attached my modified settings file. You can put it on the phone's SD card, then use Safestrap to copy it to system/priv-app/SecSettings. Save the original settings file first (or just rename it and change the filename extension) so that you can restore it later if needed.
