Android OS usage - AT&T LG G3

Just curious what everyone's Android OS usage is at in the battery monitoring information. Mine seems to be 18-20% while android system is only at 5%. That is much higher than I am used to seeing. Even on the optimus g3 port it was much MUCH lower. It was around 10%. That COULD have been bc of dormi kernel though.

Mine hangs right around 16-18% as well, the only phone I've had to be that high.

Have either of you removed carrier iq?

Mine is pretty high as well and yes I have removed carrier iq

Watched mine yesterday, 10% at the end of the day
Sent from my LG-D850 using Tapatalk 2

Yeah I've removed carrier IQ. It's one of the first things I did after rooting. I still get great battery life bc of greenify . I just thought it was odd that it's that high. I've noticed that the more you use other apps the lower that value goes. So the phone is essentially just reporting what is using power on the device period. If there are no apps in my list it's always screen 47% and OS 16-18%. If I do something like watch Netflix or YouTube or whatever it goes down.

[Q] Battery draining extremely fast. Any suggestions?

This rom used to be fine, now it is draining extrememly fast and I don't know why.
I am on Gingerbread KF2 and really haven't done anything else yet. I used to be able to make it through an average day of ~15 or so hours using the phone only for some messages, a call or two, and a few minutes of music. After this type of usage, the battery would be around 70-80% at the lowest usually. This is even with the screen at FULL brightness all day.
About a week ago, it started draining super fast. The same usage runs the phone down to about 20-30%, which is ridiculous. In battery stats, Android OS is always FAR above everything else with like 60%. A couple battery calibrations did nothing. I don't use task killers, but I do check my running apps. OS monitor didn't help me at all, and checking my currently running apps just showed mostly system apps that should not be draining hardly any battery at all.
Any suggestions? I think that about covers it all. This just has me stumped...
go through your apps and see how often they check for updates. there were a lot of updates recently and some settings may have changed. If nothing changed, can you do a quick scan with look out? Just to be safe. Also, try juice defender and set it to aggressive
Sent from my SGH-T959V using XDA Premium App
Lookout didn't pick up anything and I set JuiceDefender to aggressive. Will JuiceDefender warn me of an app using excessive battery?
Nope, that battery is still dropping like crazy. (8% in half an hour from almost no use.)
Maybe I just need to reflash and start over fresh...
It will take a day out two to settle in. is your phone sleeping properly when the screen in off? Press the volume keys once it locks and if it makes the sound then it if still on.

Sleeping just fine.
Yea, I guess if you can't figure it out, you can reflash. That is a pain though. I would say to try out jd for a while longer and see if you get results. fb us usually the culprit for my battery drains, but if you checked all of your apps and changed them to manual, then there isn't much more you can do.try putting your screen to auto brightness
Sent from my SGH-T959V using XDA Premium App
So either juice defender is helping or ADW launcher was using excesive battery. It is working better today after I switched back to launcher pro, but still going down pretty fast.
Sent from my SGH-T959V using XDA App
ADW doesn't really drain much battery for me. It actually uses less RAM compared to LauncherPro and Go Launcher (for me).
I think you should just try reflashing your ROM, maybe flashing the new GB ROMs too.
Also, are you sure you're doing the battery calibrations properly? That might also be an issue.
Maybe it's not your phone or ROM...
I've had several ROMs in the last few weeks and have noticed this behavior on many of them....after searching, I found this.
T-Mobile has apparently noticed some abnormal battery issues in areas with their "4G" HSPA+. They're asking people in their support forum for a bit of info to help them find the issue.
support[dot]t-mobile[dot]com /thread/3544
The problem was initially believed to be affecting the G2 only, but is now believed to be affecting all phones in their "4G" footprint that started when they updated their towers in late July. The update provides the government an emergency channel to use, but it appears that it may be causing network issues.
Thanks for bringing it up, this is affecting me too. i lose 20-40% battery PER HOUR of use on the phone at 25% screen brightness playing a card game online (no wifi, just on HSPA+). This is on a BRAND NEW flash of KH2 (GB 2.3.4).
The top half of the phone gets really hot and battery drains like crazy. ceasing data use cools it down and reverts to normal battery use.

Getting best battery per charge out of your skyrocket.

I am opening this thread to facilitate skyrocket users to share their experiences on getting most out of one charge.
I generally prefer something that shows percentage on top since the battery display does not provide detailed info.
I have tried few free aaps and finally found the best one. It is '2x battery' app. I used to loose 4 - 7% per hour in standby mode. With this app, It gives me 1-2% most in burn in hour. While writing this, I am 36% after 17 hours of regular use.

im at 11 hours and have 89% left using Juice Defender plus..
The only problem with JuiceDefender is that if you use messaging apps like Kik or WhatsApp, it will make it so that you don't receive the messages unless you have your phone active, making your phone pretty much useless.
I dont buy anything til I see proof of screen time and battery use screens.
Just got the phone yesterday, but I must say, coming from the epic 4g touch where I was getting 25 hours with 5 hours screen on time, it doesn't look promising.
But to be fair I haven't underclocked, undervolted and all the other tricks yet. Properly working sleep mode is essential.

I will try the 2x battery,
I use JuiceDefenderPro; custom profile
After 7 hours on battery, I am at 90%.
light calls, 1-bar of signal on 4gLTE, apps grab data every 15 minutes.
Anyone see results w/ underclocking?
I am using Antutu's CPU Master (Free), but my results have been inconclusive (sometimes uses less, sometimes uses more.. can't tell). I am considering getting the paid version of the app (or SetCPU or Android Overclock) to try the screen off profiles.
I use set CPU to underclock when the screen is off and when battery is low. In my experiences the savings are noticeable but not major.
With set CPU, juice defender, and a de-bloated rom I usually go to bed with around 30% battery remaining. That's about on par with my nexus one running cm7.

I haven't really had issues with the battery on my skyrocket. Then again, I'm not I'm an LTE area but you can pretty much expect bad battery life in an LTE area. Regardless, I have noticed something odd about the battery on my skyrocket, and maybe someone can confirm my observations here...my skyrocket tends to lose battery fairly constantly at first up to about the 80% mark then slows down the rate off loss of charge and I notice another huge slow down in drainage at the 30% mark. I've seen this repeatedly no matter what I do. In other words, screen on or off, I tend to see this happen. I'm not complaining as I think a 20 hour battery is great when using it heavily. And I kind of think of the slow drainage at the 30% as a nice perk. I'm running it stock so I can't chock it up to anythnng other than the phone. Any thoughts?

Why does everyone say this about LTE? It is simply not true. All LTE does is give you higher bandwidth with less delay. Wan't good battery life, run a custom ROM. I am running the ICS v4.1 and I must say it is much better than anything else I have tried. I keep 4sq, FB, twitter and gmail all running in the background along with BeWeather updating every hour.

Everyone says that about LTE because (from what I've read) running LTE requires more power due to several reasons. I did a quick search and sprint may be a great indication of proof of the power consumption of "4g" from what I've read their phones disengage wimax when not in use in order to conserve energy. If LTE is faster and operates at higher frequencies (if I'm not mistaken) then it should require more energy. I could go outside the box and come up with some equations that relate frequency to energy (they exist) but I will admit I don't know if they can be applied to the circuitry in phones though I don't see why it wouldn't as the theory is sound. In any case, yes running a custom rom will do wonders for battery but some of us haven't taken that plunge yet. As it is, my stock skyrocket is doing great for me lasting 20 hours. Im out of the house at 6am and usually don't get home till 8 at night. It makes it through that with ease. I'm happy with that. Bring on the LTE, I'll cross that battery consumption bridge when we get there.

[Q] LG G2 Battery concerns (AT&T D800)

Hello all.
I'm getting the feeling I'm not exactly getting the battery life I should be getting with this phone.
I had another LG G2 before the one I currently have now. I swapped it out during the 14-day return period. That one had screen flickering (which I now know that is due to content adaptive contrast etc.) and [aesthetic] the day after actually getting the phone, getting a scratch on it. However, with that day of having the phone, I felt as if I got better battery life compared to this one. That phone had Carrier IQ running on it when I didn't know anything about it. I only knew about Carrier IQ's problems once I had the current G2.
I'll post my battery results at the end of the current day from GSam, but attached are my current battery results at the given moment.
I have been using it actively since 6AM or so.
Screen at 30% brightness, WiFi on all the time. I have made the effort to disable all AT&T bloat and I have stopped Carrier IQ, LG Intelligent Agent or whatever its called and SmartCard.
I'm unrooted, totally stock (what comes out of the box). I have KNOCK ON disabled along with SlideAway if that helps.
No gaming has ever been had on this phone. Just Facebook, Messenger, and Chrome for browsing the web. I also listen to Google Play Music.
I talked on the phone with AT&T on Wednesday and they suggested a factory reset, and if it didn't fix it, to warranty the phone out...which would result in a refurbished phone and I'm kinda not okay with that because I paid for a new phone and I don't like having to get a refurbished one that is supposed to resolve my issue somehow. That's just me though.
Last night, I charged up to full while the phone was shut off. Factory reset my G2 and I still get this feeling I'm not really getting proper battery life.
Are these the type of results of what I should be getting? Not representative of a day actually out and about (which will be Monday as I have school then), rather at home. I will give stats of the end of the day use of Monday...at the end of Monday. Thanks in advance, and hopefully I have given enough info AND stats. I'm still sorta new to XDA.
I'm sorry, but you have 3 hours of screen on time and only used 40% of your battery. I think that is pretty darn good. I wouldn't be concerned with this. You are making me wonder about my device.. I have 62% left and only 1.5 hours screen time

No I haven't. I've only had the G2 for a couple days, coming from HTC One. Att is letting me try this phone out to see if I want to swap it after all the warranty exchanges I've had due to purple camera issues. I didn't know carrier iq was an issue, but I will look into it

Ahh okay. The G2 is a nice phone in terms of performance, functionality etc. Battery life was supposed to be a major feature of this phone because of the optimization and battery size...so that's why I'm concerned when others are seeming to get much better results.
If you don't mind me asking, why are they giving you a One for warranty exchange? I personally wanted a One before this phone, but it was cheaper, had better features, specs and battery life etc.
EDIT: just noticed you stated the purple camera issue. Sorry..I didn't know that was a problem with it though. Last I heard of such was with the iPhone 5's new sapphire lens...but that was fixed through a software update (somehow).

Yea the One is a great phone - I'm still not sure what I want to do yet! The problem is with most of the first months the phone was built. My wife has the mini and it was built in September- she doesn't have the purple issue. I could just send the One into HTC and have them fix the camera.. I am a little disappointed with the G2 shutter speed with flash on tho; but I am pretty sure this is fixable with a software update.
Is Carrier IQ really draining the battery? Is that why my idle battery life is terrible?

The G2 takes a bit of time in low light (if thats what you're getting at) etc. because its trying to suck as much light as it can. It does a great job because it takes its time...its just understandable why its doing that. That's why its quick and speedy in proper light (which isn't too demanding). I'd rather have proper exposure at the expense of time.
Yes, carrier IQ is exactly why. Do a bit of searching around on Carrier IQ on the AT&T G2...its the only carrier variant of the phone affected by it. It causes major wakelock and demands GPS even when you have done everything to disable location services. I also recommend, while you're at it if you haven't, to disable WiFi and mobile network connection under location access in settings.

I agree that I'd rather have a better picture than a faster snap When the lighting is good, the shutter speed is great - I posted a couple comparison shots on another thread about the One vs the G2.
As far as the CIQ - I disable IQ in Android system settings - as well as the wifi and mobile network location settings. Will see how this affects battery life.
I still think you are getting great battery life compared to mine - I'm down to 42% battery with 2hrs screen time.. I'm using Lux for brightness and it keeps the screen pretty dim compared to the built in auto brightness logic LG uses.

D800, stock, full brightness (not auto), Wifi when indoors, 4G LTE when outdoors with wifi on, blutooth on all the time, mix usage.
These were taken on different days. I always have wifi, 4G LTE and blutooth on.
I notice a drop when I have a lot of data transfer or a lot of screen time, but overall it never made me complain, I only complained to myself when I pushed it to limit because I got spoiled by good battery life and I stopped the habit of plugging it all the time. Now when I pick up, it has 30% and it can still last few hours easily, whereas before %30 meant "oh ohhhhh"..

Okay, yeah. Nice stats. I'll see how things go so far with the past suggestion of Maps etc. but yeah I totally agree with 30% thing...its weird thinking that too. But I have adjusted...kinda.
Just a quick note on standby battery life - I used the phone until it completely shut off last night around 7pm or so.. at 10pm it was fully charged, so I pulled it off the charger. It is now 8AM, and the phone is still at 100%!! I did not get any texts/emails overnight, I left WiFi/4G on.. GPS stayed on along with Wifi/mobile network locations on.
When the phone shut off and I charged it, upon reboot, I did go into location settings and disable IQAgent.
I also removed some apps (Lux/GSAM), and reverted Maps to previous version. Not really sure if Lux or GSAM are a culprit or not.. I used GSAM on my One only because HTC removed the battery stats - LG has this in the battery info. Although GSAM is nice, it isn't really necessary unless drain is outrageous.
Let's see what today brings for battery life!

I know for many, the standby of the phone is said to be a killer. I might just remove GSam too. I tried out Lux BTW and I was really shocked just how dim the display got where it was even hard to see in a dark room
So far I haven't noticed any change in battery life while consistently using the phone. However I will say when I rebooted real quick last night, I forgot to take care of Carrier IQ and noticed that the battery was dropping incredibly fast. I then remembered I forgot to disable it, and then all was well. Just shows how much of a difference it makes!

Holy Battery...

I have never had a battery be this good. Rooted with Greenify. Running Skyfall.
Kinda ridiculous. 16 hours and 60% full over here on just regular power save mode....SkyFall also
Yeah this phone gets way better battery life than my s4 did with same size battery. Love it. Does greenify really work that well? I have never used it as I have great battery life without it.

Lots of reviewers are talking about how the M8's battery lasted longer than the S5 too. Samsung needs to stop slacking on the software and give us a lightweight touchwiz. I absolutely love Sense 6 and I'm usually an AOSP guy. I'll probably try out GPE Roms once they're stable but honestly the new sense is everything I want out of android software. Minimal, clean, customizable, smooth and fast.

Don't get me wrong, I'm getting great battery life as well (though coming from a VZW GNex, anything would be an improvement). However...posting screenshots of how long your device has been off the charger with no other information (screen on time, app battery use) doesn't tell us anything.
Hell, I could leave my phone at home on wifi with the screen off and not touch it for the next 3 days, take a screenshot of any remaining battery life, and post it being like "OMG I got 3 days of battery life, this is amazing!" And it would be just about as informative and truthful as your screenshots (not including yours Evocm7, obviously).

I hear what you're saying. Personally, I'm not trying to participate in any scientific study on the matter. All I know, and all I care, is that I've had the phone off charge for 29 hours now... using it the way I normally use it during an average day ( pretty light)... and I'm still at 40% battery.
Coming from a malfunctioning POS Droid Charge this phone is a godsend. I used to have to carry an extra battery just to get through an 8 hour shift at work starting on a full charge.

lol I came from a GNex, so we're probably in the same boat. Even on wifi with extremely minimal use (10-15m screen time all day, which with how slow and laggy it was I didn't really care)), I would be down into the 60%'s by bedtime. If I went to the gym with full battery, after listening to Pandora while doing weights, and watching Netflix during cardio, it would be into 20-30% by the time I left, total of maybe 1 1/2 - 2 hours.
I flashed Skyfall the other day after charging my phone to full, and by the time I was done flashing, re-installing everything from TiBu, updating a few out-of date apps, and setting everything up, it was down to maybe 95%. And that was with the screen on for probably 20 minutes straight.

I think they are talking about this. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=51745866

I think taking into consideration the snapdragon 801 chip how it saves battery, sense 6 being light weight, if one needs to you have the choices of battery save mode and if that's not enough extreme battery save mode! This phone came built up from the floor up. Now if we just had the 1.56 software version with all the above included stock and operating correctly, I'm sure we would see even more battery savings!
Im looking for good app for monitoring battery use. Is betterbatterystats the de facto standard?

There are very few "de facto standards" for anything in the Android ecosystem...which is why we like it. I use a combination of GSAM Battery Monitor with the root companion, and Wakelock Detector.
Dont get me wrong, I get decent battery life, but nothing like you guys. For those of you with amazing OST are you guys using Google Now? I just installed wake lock detector to see what is causing my batt to drain more than others.

Should i get a v10

There have been very few brick reports or other serious issues, i got my v10 h901 a few months back and it is a super impressive phone. With more devs it would be near perfect. For the current asking price i can't see why not upgrade, this is far superior to note4 imo

My wife and I each snagged unlocked V10s during a recent sale to replace our G3s that we loved. So far, so good. It's not leaps and bounds better than the G3 for our use, but the camera - particularly the front-facing and manual controls - are great. The second screen takes a little getting used to, but it's handy.
My biggest gripe is that Verizon gimped the phone by removing the Smart Settings feature, and location-based profile changing apps aren't able to find me, so apps like Llama don't work.

I just picked up the V10 on September 27 from tmobile and have to say i'm impressed so far. But the battery is not even close to what my previous G4 was. Since I have 14 days before I can return it, im still worried about the battery not passing 6pm. The G4 got the boot loop and then was repaired by LG but it came back with LTE issues. So T-mobile gave me the option to jump and I did.
I shut the second screen off completely to see if battery improves. Today I did see the battery last past 6pm before I had to charge it. SO LETS SEE what happens tomorrow.

I also got Tmobile H901 and battery is better. There might be some issue with your battery, how much SOT you are getting? I get 4.5 to 5 hours with moderate use on LTE + Wifi connectivity all day.

The battery is the most disappointing aspect of this phone (I think). My friend had a g4 and he would be down to around 70 by the end of the work day while I got down to 40. Pretty substantial difference.
Fortunately you can get larger batteries for it, 6500 capacity (PowerBear) or even 9000 capacity (ZeroLemon) on amazon. I prefer the powerbear because I can leave the metal sides visible and the weight is much less than with the ZeroLemon.
The second screen takes up very little battery the biggest offender is the main screen, keep the brightness low when you can don't jack the brightness all the way up.
Upgrade to marshmallow if you haven't already and use the program ForceDoze which aggressively puts your phone in Doze mode to save battery. Unfortunately you'll need to have adb sideloader experience or your phone rooted to use it.
There are a lot of things I like about this phone though:
- second screen is excellent for controlling music with the main screen on
- I can put shortcuts on the second screen for my fav apps for quick access.
- I can setup quick calls on the screen which allows me to quickly contact whomever I wish
- camera is fantastic
- the phone doesn't seem to get bogged down when I have a lot of apps installed, my note 3 did this.
- 64gb capacity
- the design is solid, some don't like how heavy it is but I think it makes the device feel solid. I especially like the metal rails on the sides it makes the phone stand out from other phones.
- audio quality is great with high end headphones
The only downs from my perspective is
- second screen could be brighter (fixed on the v20)
- battery life
- I miss the stylus from the note series

Sounds like you have better battery life in your V10. That made me thing I will reset my phone and not use the LG G4 backup to restore. Hope this make is better than what im getting today, see screen shot below:
Today I'm getting 8 hours with estimated 1.26 left at 16%.
my on screen time is only 2h 31m on time. I consider this very bad.

Yes the screen is brighter than needed I thing. On my past LG G4 the automatic screen was too low So I used a app called Lux Lite Dash to fix this. Now I use is to make the auto brightness less brighter. After resetting the V10 I will install Lux Lite again. I'll consider ForceDoze if I keep my phone and root it.
Yes I am in MM, thanks for your input.

Yes its almost half of what I am getting. Your network signals are very low, that may also be cause of more battery drain. I disabled almost all Tmobile and other useless google apps (Play games, Movies etc) and getting 4+ Hr SOT.

So after resetting my phone yesterday and installing apps manually. I'm glad to say the battery life is way more acceptable today I got 10 hours of usage with 15% battery left. My screen on is only 2h 30m usage and this is a great improvement. My mistake was as soon as I activated the phone the first time I restored everything from a LG G$ back up from my previous phone. That must have done who knows what to the my V10.
Thanks for confirming that my battery life was not normal for this phone and that your phone gave you much better battery. I am more inclined to keeping this phone now. I'm still amazed how good the camera is with manual mode. Its a sick phone.

it's almost a side-grade. Very minor upgrade at best. I would get the LG v20.
No, unless you are with t mobile and it's under warranty.
Reason being is the boot loop issue. It's better to pay 5 dollars to warranty it out then be out of luck and a phone without it.
And it will boot loop. Eventually.
The phone is solid, don't get me wrong but that issue is a major concern.

Literally just happened to me today. Bought it in November when it first came out. I thought I was a lucky one.
Just avoid this phone if you can.
